Leaving your dog overnight and away from Mom & Dad is a stressful thing. For both parties. You want a place with a careful staff, one you and your dog trusts and feel comfortable with. While I do trust the staff at Mutt-Hutt, I am a little disappointed with one thing in particular.... My Bailey (75lb German Short Haired Pointer) has stayed at the Mutt Hutt on several occasions. Both for day care and several overnight stays of both short and extended lengths. The advantage of this place is the cage free environment they offer. Bailey no longer sleeps in a crate at home so we thought it would be more comfortable for him to stay at a place that would allow him to socialize freely with the other dogs and at the end of the night, sleep on the hodge podge furniture throughout this house. The last time we picked him up, the staff said Bailey isn't allowed to stay overnight anymore. Ruh Roh! Apparently he "barks" too much. Huh? I could understand if he was aggressive, but he's not. At all. High energy, yes, but he's also the kindest, most gentle soul you'd ever meet. But he barks a tad too much according to the staff. That's like saying your child can't stay at day care anymore because your kid cries or talks too much. Nothing wrong with the kid. He plays well with others and is generally fun to be around, but he makes noise. What? Thanks anyways Mutt Hutt. We'll find somewhere else to take our pooch. read more

(GROOMING EXPERIENCES ONLY) Dudes--the Mutt Hutt continues to surpass my expectations. They are so accommodating with my little fur jerk! Over the year or so I've been going here, Archie and I have had both great experiences and not so great ones. Past groomers here have told me he needed puppy xanax, so we talked to the vet about it. But really all we needed were a few adjustments: 1) Early morning, first appointment. This is KEY for an anxious-about-the-groomers pup. I just take him at 8:30AM now and he's done in an hour. No other dogs are there yet, so it's the perfect, calm atmosphere for him. 2) BARB! She's awesome. An ornery dog-whisperer rather. Who knows. She's just a tremendous asset to the Mutt Hutt. She never tells me that Archie was bad and never has any issues with him. In fact, when I dropped him this past Monday, she was looking up his files on the computer and he jumped right on her lap and gave her a kiss. Now I know for certain that Barb is his go-to lady. Again, he was finished in an hour and wasn't crated, which is a major bonus for all. He hates being crated. And she always finishes his spa day with a cute, yet manly, scarf. Ha! For Christmas we boarded 2 of our 4 dogs. There was a miscommunication between my wife and I on what time the dogs needed to be dropped off.  For some reason she thought it was noon.  I'm assuming she got that confused with the time that dogs need to be picked up by.  I figured she knew something I didn't and maybe this was just because of the holidays.  We figured it out Saturday morning and of course it was already after 10.  We hurried to get there to drop them off and it was obviously almost noon by then. The owner, Becca, was at the desk and we incredibly short with us.  My wife apologized right away and her reply was a curt "fine".  Everything else my wife said was met with an equally off-putting "yeah" or "fine".  It was pretty clear that she was upset. While I understand her frustration I don't think it's very professional to treat a client like that.  I understand that introducing new dogs to the pack non-stop would be problematic.  That said, we've been coming to Mutt Hutt for about 9 years, spending thousands each year boarding our 4 dogs, and have never been late dropping the dogs off.  Had this been a recurring issue I'd understand some frustration.  But even then I think that kind of attitude is crossing the line.  Again, we've never once been late dropping the dogs off.  We have always valued and followed Mutt Hutt's rules. In the end is just really disappointing.  That said, it's her business and she is free to do as she pleases.  Sadly, we can't continue to support a business that doesn't respect us.  Due to Becca's unprofessional behavior, I can no longer recommend anyone boarding their dogs at Mutt Hutt. Staff is not friendly. Our experience at the Mutt Hutt was very disappointing. They do not accommodate to the customer's needs. We put our dog in daycare here. Right off the bat, we felt like we were bothering the staff by even dropping our dog off once a week. It was as though we were a burden to them all of the time. Once we decided to stop sending him there they sent us a 5 paragraph thesis about how disrespectful they think we are without even knowing us....horrible customer service, extremely rude and unprofessional. This place is doggie heaven. I bring my dogs hare for daycare and extended stays. Daycare usually happens when they got way too much energy and a trip to the dog park or a long walk just wont do. After a trip to the Hutt, they sleep for a couple days. I'm positive they always have fun. The dogs get excited when I ask them if they want to go to the Mutt Hutt and they get super wound up the minute we pull in. They can't get in the door fast enough. I'm also 100% confident that my dogs get the best care possible. One of my dogs was abused by her previous owners. When she falls back on her old coping techniques from the past, we know something's wrong and I've had problems with other places handling her bad times in the past. After one of our cats passed and I also started working from home, the change in environment put some stress on her and she struggled in day care--she fell back on her old coping techniques. The "pack leaders" saw this right away, called me, and we worked out a plan to rehab my dog's social skills. A couple weeks later, and thanks to the Hutt's awesome staff, she was back to her happy self. Overnight stays also seem to be stress free for my dogs. It's a cage-free environment, which is very important as my previously abused dog cannot do cages (she was kept in a cage for the bulk of the time, daily). This is a long overdue review for Mutt Hutt. We came to Mutt Hutt with our rescue dog Pip with some anxiety and concern for her socializing with other pups. John and Becca took time to slowly integrate Pip with the group and for the first few weeks, stayed in communication with me about how Pip was doing and what she needed at home to continue to be successful at puppy care. It really meant a lot. What makes this place truly above and beyond is their willingness to stay in touch even after we moved out of Cleveland! The staff here truly care about the pups in their care and they understand dogs and what they need to be happy little beings. The staff at the Mutt Hutt are wonderful and I respect how much they care about rescue animals. Becca has allowed me to bring a young pup I am fostering, Tulip, that desperately needs socialization and a place to burn off some energy. My senior dogs were so grateful when she came back calm and exhausted last night. It is a wonderful place for your dog to learn appropriate ways to interact with others in a safe environment. I love the concept of dog parks, but unfortunately I have had too many experiences where people bring aggressive dogs there and I cannot feel confident about my dogs safety. With The Mutt Hutt, you know your dog is going to be safe because aggressive behavior simply will not be tolerated. The staff there is too competent, knowledgeable and compassionate to allow that. I've always believed other dogs are often the best trainers out there. When taking Tulip to The Mutt Hutt, I can feel good knowing she is having a great time playing, she is building her confidence, becoming socialized and learning from others. read more

We're so happy we found this place for our dog Gracie. She absolutely loves going there when my wife's and my work schedules conflict. They screen all the dogs to make sure they can interact together safely. There are no cages, no leashes, no collars! We love the boarding too. When vacation time comes, you can enjoy vacation knowing your best friend is playing all day, and not sitting is some cage. Our Stanley has been going to MH now for about 6 months and LOVES it. He mostly goes for daycare but has stayed for a weekend once. He gets excited when he sees us pull up to door and doesn't even look back when we hand him over to the very nice dog-loving people who work there. They do have limits to the number of dogs that they take for daycare on a given day, so if there is a day that you really really need the dog to go, reserve your spot ahead of time. But that said, we've never had them turn us away when we call them at 7:30 am and drop him off an hour later. I love the idea of no cages and to think of all the dogs just running around free and crashing together at night. The only thing that could make this place better is if it had cameras and web streaming so you could see your mutt in action like other shelters have. I know how expensive that must be and I get that they are a small business who couldn't afford it, but dang I would love to see what he gets into all day - he's totally worn out for at least 24 hours afterwards! A great place with dog lovers who love to take care of your beloved mutt. Never had an issue here. Once Stanley got a small cut when he was playing with the other dogs, they promptly took him to the vet and got him stapled up and spent the rest of the afternoon pampering him in the front office until his mommy could get him. We are very pleased with the Mutt Hutt. Fair prices for daycare and boarding for your pooch. And if I am ever super-rich, I'm donating those cameras and web-streaming equipment! read more

I have 100% confidence that when I leave my border collie mutt and German Shepherd at The Mutt Hutt that they are in excellent hands! My dogs always seem to enjoy themselves and always come home exhausted, which is an extra perk! My border collie has epilepsy and The Mutt Hutt has always done an excellent job giving him his meds and caring for him. The German Shepherd is still young and is a bit of a handful. He also suffers a bit of separation anxiety. However, they always manage to do an excellent job with him as well. I also get both dogs groomed there from time to time and they always do an amazing job! My dogs are literally like my children. Apparently, Mr. K passed with flying colors because we were invited back. wahoo. :O) from the time i walked in and observed the funky lime green chairs and lamp, i knew this was a cool place for K to hang with his furry friends, while his mom, (that's me!) would be slaving away at this crazy place called work. the paperwork that comes home with your fluff nugget clearly answers all of your questions and kolby was completely EXHAUSTED when i picked him up. I think the exact words were, "he has a lot of energy"..... i also had the pleasure of meeting their groomer, after telling them at check in i was highly dissatisfied with his boot camp hair cut, he had received at a well known chain store! kolby will definitely be headed back for some dawg gone fun day care and some spa services to pamper his furry little face! thanks, mutt hutt! p.s. he was sooo tired that he actually laid around the rest of the night. way to go!!! that in itself is a much needed treat for me! read more

I've brought my dog to the Mutt Hutt Grooming salon a few times and each time has been pretty good. My dog is anxious and gets separation anxiety and they handled him well without a complaint. They treat him well and he has had good experiences here. Working with Barb was fabulous, she was so kind and gentle with my dog and gave him great cuts. I was very sad to see her leave. The newer girl, also named Barb, does a good job but she's not as personable as the older Barb. I've also noticed that she's more likely to charge extra when my dog's coat has tangles/matting. I really like the work they do, but I don't like how they sometimes nickle and dime you. read more

We bring our puppy Parsnip here about once a week, and she loves this place! She always rushes through the doors in the morning, and we have to carry her out at the end of the day- she is totally worn out! So, it's with completely confidence that I give The Mutt Hutt the coveted 5-star rating not only for their cage-free, pack-leader controlled environment, but also because of the excellent pack standards they maintain with dogs of all shapes, sizes, personalities, breeds and ages. Their awesome leaders and very polite pack have been keeping my short dog happily and safely busy for a year now. Twice a week, she gets to expend all of her energy there and comes home well-exercised, well-socialized and sleepy. Our dog was dropped off for his first day of daycare and we were told we could not see the dogs' play area. Weird but... okay. When we returned, our dog seemed very eager to leave which is unlike him when he has the opportunity to play with other dogs. The staff told us he played very hard all day long - which was a bit disconcerting because we did tell them he might need a break instead of exhausting himself. When we got home, we realized his paw pads were absolutely mangled and split open - likely from playing in the gravel all day. He refused to walk on his paws because he was in pain so I had to carry this poor 80 pound dog outside to go to the bathroom. We ended up taking him to the emergency vet at midnight to get pain and anti-inflammatory medication. When I advised the staff of the problem and told them we probably can't bring him back due to the issues with his paws, we were scolded and were told there was a long wait list of dogs who would love to have our spot. They also told us they would need more information on what happened because they weren't sure how his paws could have possibly been injured but, alas, they never called. read more

Sending your dog to The Mutt Hutt is like sending a kindergarten-aged child to a selective and elite private institution. First your dog is assessed on her behavior. If your dog is one of those who is accepted based on merit, then you have the creme-de-la-creme of dogs everywhere, and you deserve a proud bumper sticker for your car. On the other hand, if your dog is accepted because you know someone who works there, or if your dog was adopted through second hand mutts (an affiliated service), then your dog is a mixed bag - could be perfect, but also could be very similar to the average dog. Anyway, we fall into the former category. Yay. So at this point the Mutt Hutt has just confirmed for you what you already know: that your dog is perfect. Well, maybe not perfect, maybe just slightly flawed but who isn't flawed? Unfortunately, flaws are a big deal. If your dog is discovered to have undesirable personality traits such as barking or whining, or ignoring other dogs and not wanting to play, then she quickly loses favor with the staff. You get calls from the establishment for behavioral issues, warning you of imminent danger of your dog no longer being allowed in the program. You wonder if you should be enrolling your dog in a new establishment, especially in advance of your christmas vacation, but your dog is not officially expelled per-se, so you pray that everything turns out for the better. You think there's no way they could expel her - at least she's not aggressive. You try to help by telling them your dog really likes to play fetch, but they tell you that no balls are allowed inside the premise. That's when you realize you sent your tennis star to a school with only a wrestling program - dogs just jumping on each other for fun. Every time you drop off your puppy, if she tries to run away, the staff gives an exasperated look because she's the problem child. You try to ignore their judgmental looks and pretend nothing is wrong, hoping everything will get better soon because re-enrolling her elsewhere when she hasn't been kicked out is a hassle. One day, your dog has a very bad day... she jumps up on the door. That is the day when the staff says enough is enough. They call you midday and tell you that your dog needs to be pulled from daycare immediately. In a tone not dissimilar to one you would receive when a sweater-wearing private school tells you your child has been kicked out, The Mutt Hutt tells you that she's no longer welcomed back. She's having problems. She's anxious, they say. She's unhappy here, they say. She stands by the door. She always wants to leave. As a puppy parent, you are shocked. My angel is perfect. You must be mistaken. She's a gentle soul, the most amazing thing. The pleas fall on deaf ears. She's kicked out of the program. Outside the Mutt Hutt, you give a good stare at your problem child because this is her fault - why couldn't she just behave like all the other dogs inside the program. She spends the rest of the day in her crate because she knows something happened and it's not good. Eventually you come to terms with the fact that maybe your dog just needs something different; that maybe you should consider dogwalkers instead. You are still upset that the Mutt Hutt gave you only three weeks to find another boarding location for your dog before Christmas (that's like saying "Good luck finding spots elsewhere... HA!.") But ultimately you are relieved that you don't have to deal with their judgment anymore. Walking in there whenever I went was certainly not a happy event for me, and it was clearly not a happy place for my dog. My dog may not be perfect, but she's perfect enough for me. So, therein lies the problem of reviewing something like The Mutt Hutt. I am sure if your dog was accepted and is a teacher's pet, then you enjoy the place. If your dog was not accepted or kicked out, you probably have a differing opinion. How else can I judge them besides saying, in my most indifferent tone to their policies and with relief that I no longer need to jump through their hoops and obstacles: "A-OK." EDIT: Maybe you're also concerned about how the animals are treated and how the facilities are. I don't know, although I hear good things. They don't allow anyone to view the premises, although they have an instagram where they post pictures sometimes. read more

I can only vouch for the grooming department, err my dog can only vouch for it! Real talk though, what makes the place great is the great people with experience. My mini-schnauzer is not stressed at all when coming here for a treat yo self grooming session. I don't take him here as much anymore (I got a pair of clippers myself), but I recently took my dog here to get his nails trimmed. They are very accommodating in getting smaller services in there between grooming sessions. $10 for just the nails - I'm not sure if that is dependent on the dog breed/size. read more

We love this place. I took my first dog Gus there for years before he passed, and when we got a new pup, Hank, they were our obvious choice. Our new dog was a young rescue who required some training. We used their in house trainer, Anthony, and have been thrilled with the results. The integration of trainers also supervising the day care was so helpful in insuring Hank had successful socializing. I've used them for daycare, training, and over nights and have only had great experiences. I also love that they run a rescue through their organization as well. read more

LOVE the Mutt Hutt!! We take our pooch there every Tuesday for play and socialization. She runs in the door when she is dropped off and doesn't look back! AND she comes home pooped and content. We had to go away for a few days and had our girl spent a weekend here. It is so comforting to know that your furbaby is being well taken care of. The staff is very friendly and we have even worked with 2 trainers through the Mutt Hutt and they have helped us TREMENDOUSLY. Our furbabe was not leash trained and was quite a handful when we rescued her. She was different from all our other dogs. Through training - she now knows pretty much all her basic commands and is really coming along. The Mutt Hutt was recommended by a friend of mine, so I tried them out. My dog's evaluation was clear: so I could board him for 8 nights. There were stipulations by the Hutt, of which I abided. Mid-day call to me said everything was fine and the stay was good. Four hours later at pick up I was told he could not stay there or return because he was "too low energy" (he was 11 yo). Since when are dogs supposed to play ALL day, let alone older ones? Then I was told "oh we don't board dogs for that long?" EXCUSE ME? Then don't have me come in (and pay) for an evaluation when you knew from the initial call that's the plan. When I asked if the dog ate I got, "I guess, I don't see his food". Did he go the bathroom? "I suppose". CLEARLY I was paying for an evaluation where the staff weren't on the same page and where the dog wasn't being closely evaluated or documented where they could tell me BASIC information. My friend told the owner of my displeasure and he was assured I would be contacted. Months later I'm still waiting. I've told everyone I know to AVOID the Mutt Hutt. read more

We love the Mutt Hutt! We've been taking our year-old Aussie Shep, Fozzy, to the Mutt Hutt for about a year now and he absolutely loves it. We specifically take him once a week during the day while we work. The staff is so nice and clearly cares about the pups they care for. They all know who he is and took the time to learn his temperament and personality when he started as one of the pack, so they understand who he is, which I appreciate. They post photos on instagram throughout the day of all the puppies playing, which is cute and nice. I think that's a nice balance between being big brother and not transmitting at all. Fozzy is always tuckered out and happy when he gets home after his trip to the Hutt, I can tell he's getting all the attention and play he needs, which is what was most important to us when selecting a place to leave our baby while we're at work. They are very flexible when I can't bring him in, a simple call or email the morning of or night before and they always have been friendly and accommodating. I also like that I can prepay a certain number of visits and get free baths if I do, just a nice perk! read more

Six years ago we adopted Beckers, our boxer mix lapdog from Secondhand Mutts. We were interviewed along with our other dog, Darcy. Since all the dogs run around together, we knew he had been acclimated to other dogs. They also took him to a house with cats to make sure he would be okay with them. Grooming services only: we had an amazing experience with our English bulldog here!! We did a full service wash which includes shampoo, conditioner, ear cleaning, and nail trimming. We upgraded to the de-shedding formula and I am so glad we did. It completely reduced his shedding and his dry skin was much better. I'm not sure if it's supposed to help with that but it did for him. He smelled great after and it's been a few days now and he still smells clean! The groomer was also outstanding. She was so friendly and great with the dogs. It took a little over an hour and she called when he was done. Make sure you're able to get your dog when they're done because they do start to charge extra if it takes you longer than 30 minutes ($2 for every 5 minutes past 30). Last but certainly not least, really affordable pricing. His whole service was only $35 and that included the $6 upgrade for the de-shedding treatment (don't forget to add a tip for the wonderful staff, though!). read more

The Mutt Hutt has been such a life saver! My young dog has a lot of energy and cannot yet be trusted alone in the house while I'm at work. I feel at ease on daycare days when she is able to run freely and play with dog friends! The staff seems very knowledgable and caring, and my girl sleeps for quite a while after we get home and wind down. I was nervous about overnight stays, but everything has gone fine both times. I should have known we were in for a disappointing experience with it took weeks to speak to a Mutt Hutt staff member. We stopped by on a dog walk: the place was closed for the week. On another occasion we were told it was "a bad time". I called in the morning and was told that no one could speak to me before 11am because they were too busy with the dogs. I called at 5pm and was told no one could speak to me after 4pm for the same reason. At this point I'm thinking, do you want my business or not? We finally found a time that was convenient for them to speak with me, I got the scoop and we took in our pup. We were disturbed to learn that we couldn't see the facilities where our dog would potentially spend lots of time. Seriously? You want me to feel good about leaving my dog with you and I can't even see where you keep her? The instagram and website shows restricted views, and are by their nature mediated by the business, who shows you only what they want you to see. We were also told that although they put water out periodically, they couldn't guarantee our dog would get any, since more dominant dogs might prevent it. This really worried us when thinking about boarding multiple days. Still, the Mutt Hutt was convenient and we were desperate to find a place to board our pup last-minute. First day: a mid-day call said our dog was doing wonderful, playing well, etc., but at the end of the day we were told they might not board her as scheduled b/c she was leash reactive. They required a second consultation. After the first day she was anxious, whined the whole car ride home (which had never happened), and spent the next 48 hours nervously biting her paws (also had never happened) and sleeping. Reluctantly we took her back two days later. At the end of the second visit we were told that she was too "resource protective" and "leash reactive" to be boarded. Though she hadn't gotten in a fight, bitten anyone, etc. I was told (in front of a growing crowd of people waiting to pick up their dogs) that my dog was a "potential" danger to the staff and other dogs. I was in shock. My pup is a dog-park regular, loves other dogs, loves children, people, etc. I asked a few follow-up questions, but when I asked if they might want to help the other customers (to save me the humiliation of being publically dressed down), the staff member said no, he wanted to "finish" with me. They brought out my little dog (who the waiting folks must have expected would be a ferocious beast), the desk dog promptly barked and growled in her face, which my dog ignored, and we went on our way. We have since found a wonderful dog boarder who loves our pup, who passed her interview with flying colors, where we were allowed to see the facilities and assured she would always have water, so I'm feeling like we dodged a bullet. I've since heard from others who said their dogs were turned away for bizarre reasons, and others who had dogs who passed the entrance exam but chose to board elsewhere b/c of the secrecy of the joint and its inadequate staff. I cannot understand how someone can consider themselves a dog training/dog sitting professional or "pack leader", but not handle what literally every one of my friends and family members consider a mild-mannered, socialized pup. Maybe consider being better at your job, Mutt Hutters. Or don't. Either way, we won't be back, and will spend the rest of our years in Cleveland recommending to all dog owners we meet that they don't take their dog to the Mutt Hutt. read more

Hmmmmm. Not sure about this place. I took my dog in for the evaluation and they said it would be 3 hours. I dropped him off at 8am and I came to pick him up at 12pm. They told me to come back later when the afternoon shift arrives. (after 2pm) Also, I forgot to mention, when I dropped him off, his paws were dirty because he had an accident in the car. I thought they would atleast clean off his dirty paws? He was still as dirty as when I left him. Usually when I leave him off at any doggie day care, he will not want to go back into the car. And he immediately jumped right in. He did not seem happy to see me. He acted very distant to me. It is as if his personality has changed and as if he is mad at me. I also asked to get a tour of the place where he would stay over night and they would not show me. This was the FIRST place that would not allow me to see where he plays or where he would stay. I am sticking with PetsMart in North Olmsted and Paws by the Lake in Avon Lake. Any place that does not show me where the dogs play or sleep is shady in my opinion. read more

Respect the dog, not the owner. I adopted a large dog s couple months ago. He was skinny when I got him and we've been working on gaining weight. My dog loves his one day a week at mutt hutt but can't go back because the owner rather than having a conversation with me about his weight went behind my back and called my vet clinic but spoke to a doctor who never has seen my dog and proceeded to lecture me about my dogs weight. Respect the dog, but you don't have a the decency to talk to the owner about what they're working through with their adopted dog? I've never even met the owner before. She also accused me of over walking my dog. I've spent a lot of time and energy training and working on my dogs behavior issues since adopting him, he's well adjusted and so much happier but apparently the mutt hutt isn't concerned about learning what's going on, only assuming and accusing.
