This is a must when you visit NYC or you're in the Bushwick area! It's combined with a bar so you have to order at the bar and find your own seat which might be difficult during peak hours. They also forgot my order, but kind of stacked my plate up when I got it so it's okay! The bar itself is super nice for a date or catch up. However, late into the night they have dj sets and they BLAST the music up. The steak frites with miso chimi is top tier! The fries are perfectly cooked and crispy. I love that they're very thin. On the day that we arrived, there was an issue with the kitchen and we can only try the steak frites. Please get the sauces especially the black garlic and miso chimi sauces. The AC wasn't working and it was hot but the staff were excellent. We received a round of drinks on the house and they brought over iced water. They were making the best out of a bad situation. Sometimes the spoken word is futile when it comes to describing a specific human emotion. For example, there are certain restaurants I love, but I can't put my finger on exactly why. Sure the food is good, but I've also had great meals in restaurants and never yearned to go back. The only expression I've found to describe places that I have a special connection with is "there is so much soul in here." Walking into Lori Jayne yesterday, I immediately knew this place was bustling with "soul." A huge skylight illuminates the purple zebra printed carpets, vintage barstools, disco ball, colorful vintage Tiffany lamps, and a DJ playing music at the perfect sound level. We sat down in one of the booths, and the owner Sam came to greet us and ran us through the menu. His passion for his cuisine and menu items were infectious. He was detailing how they got a certain cut of meat in today and were testing a Philly Cheesesteak. His eyes lit up when describing this new steak empanada they developed. He ran us through the 8 different housemade sauces that came with the chicken nuggets, while meticulously giving us the story behind how each one came to exist. His passion was tangible. His attention to detail, caring about these little intricacies that no one else would notice, made me envious. I knew we were in for a treat. Lori Jayne operates out of a bar called Danger Danger, so it's wild to me that this is technically bar food. Our feast consisted of the cheesesteak, the empanada, chicken nuggets, both of their iconic steak frites, 2 burgers, buffalo wings, and some fries. While most come here for the steak frites and buffalo wings (which were both sensational), my favorite thing actually ended up being that empanada. It was perfectly crispy and a bit flakey on the exterior, with the interior being stuffed with piping hot short rib molé. It was head and shoulders the best empanada I've ever had. Their burger, at $11, also blew me away. One of the best bang for your buck burgers in New York City. I saw Lori Jayne on all over my Instagram feed and had to try their famous steak frites and black garlic wings. The sauce on both the steak and the wings were fantastic especially those black garlic wings! The food came out fast, and for $27 in NYC it felt like a really solid deal. I am amending my review of what I thought was Lori Jayne at Alphaville with this information only review and to maintain my own integrity and transparency. If you read my previous review, it is apparent I was not altogether sure I was reviewing Lori Jayne. When the chef and his or her kitchen operation are behind the scene at a noisy bar, one can have the erroneous impression as to who is preparing the food when the chef changes bar residence. As of September 2025, Frybaby took over the kitchen at Alphaville. Frybaby chefs, Clark Bliss and Ben Tomaiuolo, are maintaining a solid operation; though, a subsequent review of Lori Jayne at its new home at Danger Danger (also in Bushwick) recently showed Lori Jayne under Sam Braverman is paying attention to details that give it the edge over Frybaby. The venue was a bit of a vibe, very hip and Brooklyn. It also didn't have quite enough tables and it took a bit long to even order. Went only for the steak and fries, which was exceptional. The AP sauce was incredible and had a unique toasty pepper flavor since it's more than just black pepper. The steak was very tender, but needed to be a bigger portion. Dropped by for a quite bite and a drink before a show last night, and it was a pretty decent option - but nothing super mind blowing. If I'm in the area and it's convenient I'd consider dropping by again, but wouldn't recommend going out of your way for it The steak frites was cooked medium rare and had a "szechuan" au poivre sauce, but you can't really taste any of the mala (sauce was still really good though)! The burger was also quite yummy, with a sizable patty. Adding bacon and cheese were extra ($3 and $1 extra) but definitely added to my enjoyment so I'd recommend at least getting the cheese. Finally got to see what all the hype was about at Lori Jayne! It's nestled inside the eclectic Alphaville, Lori Jayne serves up a selection of bites. We got the steak frites ($20) and the tenders with Lori Jayne sauce. The steak frites were pretty good for the price, particularly the au poivre sauce on top. Meat was cooked perfectly as well. Tenders came out piping hot and were decent, though I wish they were a little crisper. The LJ sauce wasn't my favorite.. it was like a thousand island kind of sauce. Atmosphere was fun - lots of booths and fun lighting inside. It wasn't too crowded when we went a which was definitely a plus in terms of finding seating. This spot is the "dive-est" of dive bars that I have been to in a long while but I was here for one thing only...the A1 FOOD! Food: we ordered the bacon cheese burger and it was delicious. The pickles snuggled away at the bottom really took it over the top. The steak frites were really good as well, the sauce was a little bit more than I'd personally preferred but still good nonetheless and the Szechuan type steak skewers which were mildly spicy and a bit fatty. We also ordered cocktails which were tasty! "Service" was a vibe and so were the patrons. A really cool couple saw us looking for a table and she called us over at the end of her meal so we can grab their spot. They also gave us some food recs! Four score and 6 months later, Lori Jayne is BACK inside my digestive system. I really love the cheeseburger. As a native homegrown So Cal kid, In n Out has its grasp on me, I don't care what anyone has to say about it. All that to say, as I bit into the burger and I tasted the caramelized onions, sauce and burger with cheese I was taken back to my yearly visits to LA at my local In N out. I don't mean to compare these two restaurants that hold special places in my heart and stomach; this is all just to say that this burger is special to me because it reminds me of home in my home now as an East Coast adult. Also, beef tallow fries are great! Started cooking with beef tallow after Sam's YouTube video and you can really taste the difference once you start cooking with it. I appreciate the ambiance here at Danger Danger along with the seating and music choice. I feel calmer and less stressed without the pressure of trying to scavenge for a booth to sit and eat at. I ordered the Steak Frites Mala Au Poivre & 1 Cucumber Mint Gimlet. It took about 20 minutes or so with maybe 3-4 people there. So it felt a little long for me for medium rare. The steak was smothered in sauce, so it was a bit hard for me to taste the steak. I did like it with the fries but not sure if the dish is right for me. Also I wasn't expecting to pay almost $50 for a meal and a drink in Bushwick. I do feel like I've aged out of a place like this so not sure if this is the place for me. I did see when I left, they were offering earplugs in the front. So everyone is aware it's loud. But a little confused why they don't just lower the volume. Best "bar food" in town bar none. Nowhere else can you get a burger this good for $10-11. Can't go wrong with the nugs or any of the sauces. Specials can be pricey but that's because there's a finite amount of it. Half a pastrami sandwich felt expensive until the smoked, peppery meat melted on my tongue. The only thing I think they could improve is the fries, which are inconsistent. I wouldn't even mention it except they do steak frites most weekends. They're also vegetarian friendly (not that I care ya know?) Don't blame the food guys for the bar staff, but I've also always found the bartenders to be friendly and pretty good. But bear in mind this is a restaurant inside a bar that hosts concerts and events. It's gonna get crowded. read more

I saw this place on social media and there was a burger that looked really good so I decided after work to come try this place out. It is located inside Alphaville bar so Google Alphaville and you will find this place; its not too far from the M train Central Ave stop. The burger itself was good and I liked the bread which I think was a Martin's Potato roll. Pickles, good nothing special. The sauce was pretty good and unique; it tasted heavily of mustard seasoned with I think either masala or curry seasoning. The majority of the sauce was at the bottom of the bun so i ate half of the burger then actually taste the sauce. The caramelized onions was the worst part of the burger. It was way too salty and killed any flavor of the onions plus I order it with cheese and it was salt overkill. I think if they fixed that and the sauce ratio, it could be one of the best burgers in NYC. I will try again in the future to see any improvement read more
