This Spanish Mediterranean restaurant in Greenpoint has been featured on the Michelin Guide five times. I went to Madre for their brunch and it was 10 out of 10. The cocktails were amazing and perfectly balanced with stunning presentation. Standouts were the Carajillo, the Garden Party, and Eat my Stardust. The croquetas stuffed with black truffle were rich and bursting with flavor. The hamachi crudo was sweet and smoky with blood orange and Calabrian chilies. The wagyu burger was tender and smoky topped with a sunny-side up egg and chipotle aioli. The massive brown butter French toast topped with toffee, roasted bananas, and strawberries à la mode was perfection. The service was impeccable. I've had Madre bookmarked for a hot minute & I finally happened to be in Greenpoint which meant it was destiny haha. First & foremost, the interior of the restaurant itself is really nice. Second, all of the employees here were absolutely lovely including the waitress Francesca & the bartender HK. It was actually his second day there & you honestly couldn't tell at all- he was quite knowledgeable & helpful. Third, the food, drinks, & dessert were all fantastic- so five stars all around! I ordered the Formula One drink to start. It was strong & sweet without being overbearing. For dinner, I ordered the miso brussels & croquetas. Both were fantastic, especially the black truffle manchego croquetas. Believe in the hype- they're absolutely fantastic! Now, there is always room for dessert, & of course I got the soufflé. I don't know if the flavors for the soufflé rotate but I got a 70% dark chocolate soufflé with a fantastic ganache to match it. On top of that, I believe Francesca had also poured a caramel sauce (not 100% sure) & a scoop of vanilla ice cream to top it off. It was absolutely fantastic & a real treat. One of those spots I would describe as "international" They combine a lot of flavors together that sound very interesting but also taste quite familiar. It's tapas style so expect smaller portions. We had a bit of everything, and I'd say the starters were the most fun, cornbread madeleines, hamachi, & scallop aguachile were my favs Short rib had this school lunch flavor (can't say I was a fan) and the sides tasted very basic. Soufflé was a standout and I just wish they had a fruity seasonal one. Overall solid but not super memorable ‍ Would probably prefer this place for brunch tbh. A time was HAD! My husband and I joined my cousin and her partner for brunch at Madre and we could not have been happier with the restaurant choice. Everything from the service, ambiance and food were spectacular. We came here for a celebration and were delightfully impressed. First, the El Sancho and Birds of Feather cocktails were so tasty that we got a second round of the same. My only complaint is that the ice to drink ratio was disproportionate, there was a lot of ice filling the glass. When a friend told me about this spot I had no idea what she was talking about because I feel like it's kind of hidden but lol and behold this place is a hidden gem! The vibes are gorgeous and perfect for a date night or girls night. The wait staff was knowledgeable and quick, and the food was great! They gave us little shots of potato and leek soup that I wish I could have a bowl of, and the fish and octopus were standouts! I had a pleasantly good time at Madre - the experience felt elevated and all the food we received were very good. I would highly recommend both the hamachi and the Wagyu burger - they both just melted in my mouth! Overall fantastic spot. The decor is stylish, spacious and the servers are friendly. A majority of the food was delicious! I think there were just some small improvements that could've been made. The biscuit under the eggs Benny were so difficult to cut through with a knife and fork that we were both sawing at it to get a bite! This was also a little bit too salty for our taste. The oysters were good quality but the mignonette they placed melted into the liquids and you couldn't really taste it. The fluke ceviche was delicious, love a good Leche de tigre. The cornbread madelines were good too but a little heavy so the whipped butter really balanced it out. The French toast is HUGE so keep that in mind. We struggled to finish it but it was good. This was one of the best meals I had in 2023, luckily I was able to squeeze it into the last weekend. Madre was delicious and so fun - we did bar seating which honestly made the experience even better - from our mezcal shots with a fluke ceviche chaser to learning the secret to getting the free crème brûlée. John Carlos took care of us at the bar, and even suggested the next spot for us to visit after our meal which was also a great time. Here's what we ordered - Grandaddy Purp, the Last Starfighter, a margarita, and el Sancho (personally, I wouldn't prioritize drinks here, go to bar americano after instead) - Black Truffle Croquetas - Fluke Ceviche - Honey Nut Squash - Cornbread Madeleines - Strawberry Soufflé (order this when you arrive!!) The fluke ceviche was seriously one of the best things I've eaten this year. I don't even like fish and I loved this. It was nutty, creamy, spicy, sooooo good. The honey nut squash was also better than I would've thought. So simple and so delicious. I didn't care for the soufflé... but we got the free crème brûlée with it which made it worth it. I was really excited to try this place given the strong reviews and I was definitely swayed by all the TikTok's I saw. The menu is pretty compact for brunch but it's still done pretty well. We were sad that the soufflé is only available for dinner but it definitely gave me a reason to come back! For appetizers we shared the cornbread madeleines and the croquettes. Loved how creamy the croquettes were and the butter for the madeleines was great. Beautiful presentation of each dish all around. Another place I came to because of TikTok. I saw it everywhere and it did not live up to the hype. Cool vibe inside but nothing special. We started with the chips and dip they gave us which I loved. Could've licked the plate clean it was so yummy. Then we got the fluke ceviche which was good and had a great combo of texture and flavors. I did enjoy the marinade a lot and some people went in with a spoon to eat it. The cornbread madeleines were fun but just cornbread‍. The truffle croquettes were nice and creamy. This place is fairly new and I was so excited to go. We managed to get a reservation for 530 right at opening and we're promptly seated. The entrance to the restaurant is where you see the name sign and the inside where the hostess is looks kind of like a hotel lobby. We got the truffle bites, octopus, madeleines, and soufflé and the server also brought out crème brûlée for us on the house! Instead of bread, they gave chips with a creamy dip that paired very nicely - I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely get the madeleines and soufflé! Next time I'm here. At the behest of my sister who had a fantastic dinner here, we made a dinner reservation for two at around 5:30 pm on a Saturday. The 5:30 pm time was the only time available. Little did we know, we stumbled upon their happy hour, which included drinks and 2 dollar oysters. Like a lot of restaurants in Greenpoint, the ceilings were tall and the space was elegantly decorated with ample space between the parties. We started off with complimentary potato chips with a ranch dressing that was delicious. We loved the oysters. What was really notable about our meal here was the abundance of unique flavors in every meal. Great drinks and one of the best bartenders around! I did sit at the bar both times I ate here. Had the female bartender Kellyé. She was very attentive and made those drinks with love. She knows her stuff 100% with mixology and overall with the restaurants menu and food. The restaurant had really good service and such a nice atmosphere. Also very clean in there. Bathrooms Too! First time, I ate here was for brunch and the French toast was amazing! Its thick, not dry at all, and wow that sauce was a perfect amount of sweet. The sauce was my favorite. The Espresso martini was really good. Not normally a drink I prefer but wanted to try it. My drink, Titos Bay breeze is was made just right! So many places I order this and they get it wrong or the ratios are off but not the Madre bartender. She was on point with every drink and filling my water. I came for dinner as well and my steak was cooked perfectly and sliced. I usually do not like my steak slice because places tend to slice it really thin but they sliced them thicker which I loved. The steak was delicious. A great cut. Flavorful and juicy! The chips and beet dip was surprisingly good! I also had these Jalepeno madelines and they hit the spot! I never had those before but loved them. Dessert: i had the famous Madre Soufflé, Guava. It had a banana creme and gelato. So good and I'm not even a big fan of guava. I ate all of it! The flavors and texture altogether went so well together and with every bite I wanted more. I really want to go back to see what the next soufflé flavor will be. Honestly, I've been on such a 5 stars streak lately for eats in the Greenpoint neighborhood. I highly recommend the area in general for great eats and a peaceful ambiance away from the gawking, slow-walking tourists and bustling working professionals in Manhattan in their all black attire/Patagonia vests with RBFs. But I digress. Madré was excellent on all fronts. It's essentially a higher scale chic and hipster ambiance when you come in, but with quality food at a slightly higher price tag. Every single dish here was full of potent flavors that meshed very well together. The complimentary chips with a creamy tart dip, ceviche, grilled octopus, cornbread madelines, and the eggplant agnolottis are a must try. Perfectly seasoned, not too salty, and not too heavy where you leave feeling disgusted with yourself. The soufflé was also an excellent way to end the meal. It was very light and flavorful as well. Not too sweet but a nice mix of flavors. The soufflé tends to sell out quickly and the flavor depends on the day. We had the guava soufflé and it was absolutely delicious. My husband and I decided to stop by Madre for brunch, we did not have reservations, but we were able to get seats at the bar. Which was great! Our server/bartender was new, so he was still learning the ropes. I ended up getting the burger and my husband got the French toast and the corn Madeline's as a starter. The French toast was massive and the syrup was delicious. The burger was a little too raw for me, so I had to ask if they could cook it a bit more, and they did! The Madeline's were on point and the butter just made it better. We ended up getting a new server at one point, and she was wonderful! She was so attentive and kind. I've had my eye on Madre for a long time and finally made it out for a date night. The vibe is cozy, intimate, and warm. I recommend making a reservation beforehand. We arrived during happy hour so ordered beer and rose on tap, and 6 oysters ($2 each). I'm usually not a huge fan of oysters but these were well flavored. For dinner we ordered: - fluke ceviche (4/5 - very unique with all the seeds, wonderful flavors. My only critique was that I wish the yuca chips tasted more fresh/crunchy) - lobster Agnolotti (4.5/5) - delicious and very nicely Al Dente) - honey nut squash with farro (5/5) - a bit of a sweeter plate but the flavors were delicious. I felt my fork continue to gravitate back to this one. - Madeline's (5/5) - that whipped butter is magical!! - patatas bravas (3.5/5) - solid but I've had better. It's good filler. - pot de crème (4.5/5) - if you like chocolate and sea salt, get this. - guava soufflé (4/5) - a beautiful, unique dessert. Super fluffy. I really enjoyed the banana crème as well. Came here with a friend and had a lovely time! We got the scallop aguachile, hamachi, mezzelune, and short rib. All were wonderfully delicious, really enjoyed the aguachile the post. Of the dishes we ordered, our favorites were the eggplant agnolotti (phenomenal flavor, absolutely delicious) and the fluke ceviche (such an amazing mixture of flavors and textures, the sauce was really the star, could down that stuff like a soup it was so good). Cornbread madelines also incredible, that butter was so so creamy and smooth. Octopus was good but it didn't stand out to me as much compared to the other dishes. Wasn't the biggest fan of the black truffle croquetas, they were alright but not particularly noteworthy and I thought they could've done with more truffle flavor. Enjoyed the complimentary chips. Happy hour oysters were good but a bit too acidic. The seasonal soufflé of course is a must-order (so light and airy, great flavor). As for drinks, the Granddaddy Purp was delicious, one of the better tasting cocktails I've had in a while (that being said, it's like 90% foam, not the cocktail you necessarily want to order if you're trying to get tipsy). We did not come for a full dinner but we had a lovely time snacking outside on a summer evening over drinks. I had the el sancho cocktail, which was a refreshing summer cocktail with just a mild hint of smokiness from the mezcal. The papas bravas were one of the more unique takes on the dish that I've tried, with a yogurt aioli that had far move layered flavors than the typical chipotle mayo at most tapas shops. The best bite? I make frequent fun of Brooklyn restaurants for universally having labne on the menu, but in spite of that it was probably the complimentary labne and chips that came at the start of the meal. read more

Madre in Greenpoint is a stylish, eclectic restaurant featuring Spanish and Mediterranean influences. They came out first with complementary chips and yogurt sauce followed by our chosen small plates (cornbread madeleines, papas bravas, chicken liver mousse, oysters and black truffle croquettes). We shared the mains amongst our party and had the sweet potato agnolotti with lobster, tilefish with black lentils, kurobuta pork, and chicken with salsa verde served with a side of tamale. All of the mains were excellent but we had a soft spot for the tender pork and agnolotti. For dessert we settled on a decadent combination of cherry clafoutis, complementary chai crème brûlée, and what put madre on the map, the seasonal souflee (banana with horchata anglaise and topped with crème fraîche gelato). We went during the end of summer, so there was also indoor/outdoor flow (it did get cold due to wind). Definitely a great date spot. The cornbread was just cornbread. - fluke ceviche (5/5): bursting with flavor, yet light! We ended up drinking the soup because it was so good. black truffle croquettes (4/5): not outstanding, also a little small. But a good appetizer. grilled octopus (4.5/5): they give a hefty amount of octopus. While the Tigre de Leche was delicious, the roasted peanuts felt out of place and needed to be picked out. - Truffle Croquettes: These were delicious and a safe choice on the menu. - Octopus: This dish was a disappointment. Mixing octopus with chorizo and an overwhelming amount of garlic resulted in a combination that was far from tasty. - Dessert: The desserts were delightful, easily the highlight of the dinner My main concern with the food was the unbalanced nature of the ingredients and weird combinations, which left me feeling very thirsty afterward--this is always an important indicator of a poor, unbalanced recipe.  Overall Experience Overall, my experience was mixed. We truly never got the chance to take a photo because everything looked so delicious we dove in right away. We shared the scallops to start, and then I had the short rib while my husband had the octopus. He mentioned the red sauce was exquisite. My short rib was cooked to perfection. We both drank El Sanchos and loved the nose of cinnamon on the ice with a sweeter spicy taste on the palette. Ambiance was calm and elegant. We ordered the Mezzelune & croquetas last because we came hungry and portions are on the smaller end. We also shared the Basque cheesecake with blueberry preserves made from manchego cheese. Came here with friends for happy hour and mainly to try the souffle. $2 happy hour oysters were fresh and went well with the strawberry mignonette. The happy hour rose was very nice as well. The souffle (banana with guava sauce) tasted good albeit too sugary (I normally don't love guava so was surpised it went well with the banana), but the texture was a off--it seemed like it was a little undercooked and not as eggy as I like my souffles. The actual food was good but serving sizes for everything were too small to have a very satisfying meal. The kurobuta pork is probably the best bang for your buck in terms of taste and serving size, but everything else was laughable. One small tentacle for the octopus, which was an entree. The agnoletti left my friend hungry for more. The fluke ceviche (appetizer) was so so tiny and came with a sprinkle pinch of chips. The cornbread madeleines were literally just four small pieces of cornbread. Honestly, I thought most things tasted great, but were not worth how much they are charging for these portion sizes. I left decently satisfied with small bites of everything family style, but if you have anyone in your party with an appetite you may want to order more. read more
