I tried the falafel, quiche, and pancakes. The falafel was nice, though much softer on the inside than typical - instead of fluffy, it was more like the filling for a ravioli. Not bad, but unexpected. The quiche was also solid, with a flaky crust and hearty filling. The simple greens on the side made for a nice accompaniment. The famous pancakes were disappointing. They were greasy and tasted almost deep fried. It definitely felt more like eating funnel cake than a regular pancake. Great if that's your speed, but not what I was looking for. I went to this restaurant during a NYC heatwave (July 3, 2026). I looked at the menu before going and was not impressed but never judge a book by the cover. I went with my girlfriend from who came in from Florida for the holiday weekend and her daughter suggested this restaurant for us to meet up. Boy, what a pleasant surprise from the food to the service. All was wonderful, they just get one less star because they never asked how I liked my meat cooked. We shared the meal and started with the chips and Aioli - AMAZING. It is thick cut French fries, nicely salted and hot. The aioli dip was different for me as I am a ketchup girl but it was delicious and I did not need to ask for ketchup. Then we ordered the pork shoulder and 1/2 chicken. I prefer well done pork or any type of meat, the pork was perfectly cooked for my friend (medium, slightly pink) but I tried it any way, very flavorful and it was delicious (but still want it more done, Lol). The chicken was flattened and grilled (looked pan fried to me but was told it was all grilled just no grill marks). This too was amazing; not a fan of the julienned green stuff on top, but the skin was cripsy and meat cooked through and so tender and tasty. Even though we were sharing we had left over chicken. I would definitely order both again. Now for the service. When I say EVERYONE was so nice, they were. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Ross was our servicer, so sweet and helpful, thank you Ross (as this was my first time at the restaurant, he was helpful advising what to select for each course). This being the first time here I wanted to try the dessert and it being super hot I tried the cherry sorbet and vanilla (both made in-house). I am not one for cherries but can do the flavor just not the fruit whole. Both were AMAZING. The location is a little small but such a wonderful neighborhood spot. After months of reading and seeing videos about their pancakes, I finally was able to get in and try them, and let me say they totally lived up to the hype. These were easily the best pancakes I've ever had. I love how they're simple, no-frills, and just flat out delicious. The crispy edges are to die for, especially when paired with the soft, fluffy interior. They are a little expensive, however, I think they're definitely worth trying at least once. We also got the liver pate, which was really good, although it didn't blow me away compared to other pates I've had. I and my friends finally planned it out properly that we would go and try the pancakes. And try we did. These pancakes were properly crisp on the edges, soft and loaded with butter. Made sure to get their famous pancakes when going for brunch recently. Although I do agree that they tasted amazing, I thought they were extremely heavy and after eating about half of a pancake it was hard for me to finish. However this is just my personal preference and can see how it's a crowd favorite! We were deeply disappointed in the dinner appetizers and desserts...the two stars are for the dinner entrees - steak and fennel sausage. We paid $180 for a really small portion of country pate, tuna tartare, a chocolate cake drenched in olive oil (overpowered the chocolate and made our tastebuds feel very confused), and an over sugared lemon meringue tart that did not have much citrus to it at all... Yes, Sunday noon is peak activity but seriously, you can hear this restaurant from a block away. The pancakes ($18) are indeed delicious. The char on the edges provides a satisfying crispiness in each bite, and the center is fluffy. I do wish this came with fruit, for a burst of tartness and color. The quiche ($22) is also pretty good; it's a tall slice and it's soft when you cut into it. The salad is a bit scant, wish there was more. Price feels a bit steep for this. Chez Ma Tante blew me away with their brunch it was absolutely spectacular and I would highly recommend to anyone who loves French cuisine and of course a nice stack of crispy, buttery pancakes. My friend and I came here around noon for brunch and we started with the quiche. I normally am not a fan of peas but the ones in this quiche were so fresh and had a nice bite to them. The quiche was so soft and the side salad paired with it had an addictive vinaigrette. Our next meal was the Kedgeree, which when we received it, we were pleasantly surprised to see that there was poached cod in the dish which we didn't realize when we looked at the menu! The kedgeree however was done so fantastically well that I might just be coming back for this specific dish. The fish was incredibly soft and the rice was so flavorful! I typically don't like celery either but here it worked! All the flavors and ingredients somehow paired well and it was a fantastic dish. We of course couldn't leave without a stack of cakes and these were incredibly crispy with a hint of citrus in each bite. One of my favorite stack of pancakes in the city, hands down. read more

Yesterday, I received one of the nicest compliments from a fellow Yelper in quite a long time, so you are the inspiration for this review, ma cherie. This is a restaurant that reminded me back when I visited Quebec and Montreal, almost the exact same vibes, the same layout, a similar menu. The cuisine is almost French Canadian, with some American twists to it, but perhaps the reason the food is so delicious is everything is locally purchased. Everything here is top notch, from the presentation to the service. It is expensive, and the restaurant is located in a part of Brooklyn that is not part of my DNA, but the food is too good here. I will break down each part because of the difficulty to get in here, though not necessarily true. If you have a large party, you might have some issues. But a 2 or 3, if you are willing to be flexible, they can get you in. Now, for the food. Sorry, one last thing. The servers were terrific and friendly. They also know what they are talking about; do not turn down any suggestion they offer you. Now, for the food, for real. --- Pancakes: The star of this restaurant is the pancakes at this restaurant. For $18, these have to be some of the best pancakes in New York City outside of Clinton Street Baking Company. I know I just said Golden Diner puts out the best ones, but I have to backtrack a little bit. These probably overtake them because of the light consistency, the slight lemon zest, and the crispiness of them. This is the cost of doing business in these times; $18 is high for two pancakes that are rather small, but the depth of flavor these two pancakes have is MASSIVE. Bacon: You could easily get this at a steakhouse. So much flavor, and you get three nice strips. It is delicious, so it is quite a shame when the last strip is eaten. More than likely, you will want to order a few of these if you have a large party. These are the real deal. Sausage: Made in house, this sausage is absolutely fantastic as well. Three links to a plate, the sausage carries excellent depth of flavor; a little bit of heat, and a good snap to make for an easy breakfast meat to snag alongside the sweet pancakes. Smoked Salmon: This is where the Quebecois cuisine is apparent. It served with toasted sesame chip like bread, cream cheese, and sesame seeds. Not too overpowering, but the lox they use is Gravlax. Gravlax is more saltier than Nova lox, but the cream cheese helps even it out a little. My stomach loves most kinds of smoked salmon; this is no exception. Garlic Aoli and Chips: Another component of Quebecois cuisine, the chips taste beautiful and the garlic aioli is magnificent. The whole thing is delicious and a great component to share with lots of people. I ordered some knowing I was not going to finish them, but I am happy to have tried a few because I really wanted to see how these would turn out. I really felt like I was in Montreal while I was eating these. Could you imagine if this were in a poutine? Wow. The drink I ordered (a simple mimosa) was nothing to obsess over, and I got some side eggs for my dish which I will not dwell on either because eggs are eggs; they work well to accentuate a bit of acidity to the meal without taking away too much flavor from the dishes. --- Now the question is, do I return? My heart wants to, because the food is delicious. My gut says no. It is too expensive, and it is not the easiest restaurant for me to get to during the weekends, which is when this restaurant is busiest. At least I know though that there is somebody out there that sees these reviews and that makes me want to continue doing this. Chez Ma Tante has been on my bookmark list forever. I bumped into a friend who invited me to join them and their friends for Sunday Brunch. We did not have reservations and the wait time was two hours. It was a nice day so we walked around while we waited. Once inside it was a very small restaurant with the wait staff going from table to table. The pancakes were good. The outer crust on their pancakes takes it to another level. Little did I know my friend comes here often so we went again the following Sunday with reservations and were seated immediately. Came here with my husband for brunch and felt that we were served our food quickly and rushed out. I booked our reservation for the parklette, and was seated outside under the awning. The awning chairs were really uncomfortable, so in a sense, maybe it wasn't so bad that we were rushed out. I can't attest to the ambiance inside because we were there just long enough to tell them that we were there. We got the red stripe gouda, pancakes, and falafel. The gouda was literally just bread and cheese, which felt strange, but I didn't understand why there wasn't any butter or anything else. My husband enjoyed his falafel, and my pancakes were good, but I wouldn't consider them the best ever. I found that my edges were overcooked and dry while the center was moist. I like some crispy edges, but these were dried out. Overall, it was fine. The service was just ok, and the food was also just kind of fine. I don't know if it was special enough to return. read more

Definitely better than my favorite pancake spot (fortunately but unfortunately). I'm extremely disappointed to be writing this. From the moment we entered Chez Ma Tante, the tone was off. We were told there would be a one-hour wait, despite clearly open seats at tables and at the bar. We were not asked for our name or number for the waitlist we had to initiate that ourselves. About 30 minutes later, we were offered seats at the bar. The bartender's demeanor toward us was cold and dismissive. When we asked about certain drinks, we were told "no" without explanation or alternative suggestions. When we asked what was available, he rolled his eyes. One of my friends ordered a burger that took over 30 minutes and arrived improperly cooked. When we asked to have it removed from the bill, the server (wearing a striped shirt with a braid down her back) rolled her eyes and took the plate to the kitchen. She appeared to complain about us to another staff member while gesturing in our direction. The replacement fries were cold and the aioli tasted off also inedible. Throughout this time, my martini glass sat empty. I was never offered another drink. Meanwhile, the patrons seated next to us were checked on repeatedly, and the tone toward them was noticeably lighter and more attentive. When we asked for the bill so we could leave, the dismissive behavior continued. As we exited, staff were whispering and staring at us. The difference in how we were treated compared to others around us was striking and uncomfortable. We came in excited to try this restaurant and left feeling unwelcome. It's me, not you. I wanted to love Chez Ma Tante. I NEED to find the best pancake spot. But it's just not my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong, the location gives a nice little Canadian vibe, the bar was posh and inviting, and the servers were attentive, patient and friendly. However..... The Pancakes: People rave about it. But it just does not do it for me. I thought the lemon twist on the pancake was too overpowering. I am a big eater. And this is only the second time I couldn't finish a dish. I know Yelpers toss around names like Clinton Street Bakery and Golden Diner (both which I hated the pancakes).
