Our reservation was for right when they opened so we were the first few to get seated. The owner was so sweet and made sure to get us inside and out of the cold while we waited. There's a bar at the front of the restaurant and the seating is all in the back. I loved how simple and modern and warm it felt while we were dining there. To share, we ordered the Japanese Breakfast Set ($29) and Miso Ricotta Mushroom Toast ($19). All the components of the breakfast set were curated so well and with intention. The food here was pretty good! My friends and I came on the weekend for brunch. The apple tart tatin pancakes were very fluffy and filling. The lingo beef pie, although kinda expensive at $43, was well seasoned and juicy, would recommend! In terms of sides, the Hokkaido milk bread was fluffy and light, and that parm butter made it exceptionally tasty. Service was quick. The restaurant inside is also very well decorated. Here only to review ambiance, cocktail and happy hour.... I had been recommended to stop in by a bartender that usually works the Thursday night (he had been at another local bar on the day his restaurant was closed). Although that bartender wasn't there... the one who remained carefully crafter my cocktail with attention to detail and precision. I ordered a shiny remedy 12$ (happy hour) and was blown away by how delicious this cocktail was... fresh ginger was almost the art if the show but was delicate enough to not overpower this cocktail. We came back to Lingo to try their dinner menu because we enjoyed the brunch so much. Turns out they have a set menu option ($38) on Thursdays, so we ordered the Grilled Wild Ramp and Corn Donabe Rice and the Fish of the Day (which was Miso Cod). The set also came with a Gem and Chrysanthemum Salad, and Japanese pickled Vegetables. Outside the set menu, we ordered the Tako Wasa Octopus Carpaccio ($19) and Wild Caught Black Sea Bass ($37). The a la carte items we ordered were the stars of the meal. Wow. The octopus carpaccio had a great combination of tart, sweet, and freshness. and the black bass was fried perfectly, I made sure the clean the bones of that fish from head to toe! The curry in the pie would have benefited from some rice on the side since it was a bit heavy to eat solo without any carbs to soak it up. The menu has a good range of both sweet and savory options, so no matter what you're in the mood for, you'll probably find something that hits the spot. Being able to take a bite of their really delicious duck sando, and finishing with their pancake really made it a satisfying experience. Cute Japanese spot in Greenpoint with a great back patio! We recently stopped in for weekend brunch on the patio. It was hard to decide what to order, as there were a lot of dishes and sides that sounded good. We settled on the Japanese breakfast set, miso cod sando, and one apple tart tatin pancake. It ended up being a lot of food! The breakfast set was our favorite dish. It included grilled kalbi short rib, rice, tsukemono, miso soup, onsen egg, and braised kale. The short rib was cooked perfectly and not tough. The other items were great as well. The miso cod sando came with fries. The sandwich was tasty and a unique take on a sandwich. I believe there were some tables outside, but I did enjoy the inside seating. We ordered everything to share but our highlights were the lingo beef pie and the apple tart tatine pancakes! The yuzu pancakes were what I was looking forward to the most and it was delicious! Soft, thin pancake in a bright, citrusy and sweet yuzu sauce. Definitely get this if you're here. The pot pie was also quite delicious, with everything married well together and the meat being very tender. The crispy rice was good, but there's a lot of good crispy rice out there so you might be bale to skip that. Came here for brunch on a Sunday and it was easy for us to make our reservation for a party of 8. We were seated shortly after we arrived. The restaurant was welcoming with one table in the front next to the bar and the rest of the main dining area at the back. Since there were many things we wanted to try, we ordered almost everything on the menu and shared amongst us and the following are what we tried: HOKKAIDO MILK BREAD: it came with 3 small buns. Portion size was a lot smaller than expected and not as soft and fluffy as I would've liked. The butter didn't taste anything special so this can be skipped next time. STEAK TARTARE CRISPY RICE: came with 3 small bite size on top of crispy rice, which was crispy and provided a good balance of texture. The tartare itself was flavorful with a hint of kick from the aji verde sauce. We all enjoyed this dish. This is not a dish meant to be shared with so many people but only 3 people in our party wanted to try it so it worked out for us. JAPANESE BREAKFAST SET: you can choose between artic char or grilled kalbi and we opted for the artic char. This again is not a dish to be shared but I ordered it for my kids who loves fish and it was the perfect portion size to be shared between 2 young kids. It came with tomato miso soup, rice, onsen egg in which my kids mixed it with the rice and devoured it, and tsukemono vegetables which are very sour but it was just the way I like it. The miso soup was unique in which it's cooked with tomatoes so it's feels refreshing and not your typical salty miso soup. I was able to have a bite of the artic char and although it was moist and tender, it was a little too salty to be liking. SOBAKO BUCKWHEAT CREPE: came with chasiu pork, which was flavorful, tender and juicy, Gruyère cheese and a sunny side up egg. Never thought to put Japanese chasiu in a crepe but it works! The cheese wasn't too overpowering and the crepe itself was crispy on the edge and chewy in the middle. It was scrumptious. APPLE TART TATIN PANCAKES: this dish provides a little bit of everything. From the tartness from the Granny Smith apples, saltiness from the miso, to sweetness from the caremeal, it was a great harmony of flavors and I did not find it overly sweet. The pancakes itself were nice and fluffy. This was one of my favorite dish. WHIPPED AVOCADO TOAST: unfortunately, this was my least favorite dish. The whippped avocado just fell flat in terms of flavors and texture. It was so mild that I did not even taste any avocados. You need to add $4 for ramen marinated jammy eggs which we did and I think that helped with the flavors but it wasn't anything special and I would not order this dish again. LITTLE GEM CHRYSANTHEMUM CAESAR SALAD: fresh, crisp and flavorful. This was a solid salad but not super unique. A good choice in hot summer days. MISO BLACK COD SANDO: one of my favorite dish. The black cod was cooked to perfection - moist and flaky. The shredded cabbage gave it the texture that's needed and it was sandwiched between 2 soft and fluffy shokupan. This is a must eat. DUCK CONFIT KATSU SANDO: if you didn't tell me it's duck, I wouldn't have known. It is flavorful with a great balance of textures but I don't think it's worth $30. OOLONG TEA AND WHITE PEACH SOFT SERVE: I was really looking forward to this but unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations and my brunch ended on a bad note because of this. The soft serve was not smooth at all. I do taste the oolong tea but it was overpowered by the sugar. It was really sweet and I was not able to finish it. Overall, this is more of a 3.5 star review. Some of the dishes were great while the others were not. Service was great as they were patient with us and was attentive throughout our meal. The reservation was also easy to book a few days ahead, which I always appreciate in the New York food scene. We sat down at 2, an hour before closing, and they had run out of the Arctic char breakfast set but not anything else. The lingo beef pie is their star menu item so we had to order that, along with a couple other smaller items to complete to meal. 4 items but we ended up finishing everything between two people :D We started with the steak tartare crispy rice, which was delicious and savory and a great light bite. The rice was crispy on the outside but nice and chewy, almost like sticky rice, on the inside. The shoestring fries were good, nothing special and not the thinnest fries I've seen but good with the curry. The lingo beef pie was amazing, I can see why it's the star of the show. The curry is thin, almost soupy, but rich with flavor and filled with a good amount of meat. My only qualm was how difficult the pie crust was to get off the serving dish, I literally had to pry it off and made a mess but I can't leave behind my favorite part of pie! The apple tart tatin pancakes were just as delicious. I'm usually not a sweet breakfast person but it smelled so good and they serve single stacks which is perfect for people like me. I came here for brunch one weekend and had a phenomenal meal. Located in Greenpoint, this restaurant is right near the water, and is vibrant and lively. Staff was lovely, but we did have an issue with the hostess. Our reservation was at 12pm, but after my friend was seated (she came a bit late), the hostess said that our table was needed back at 1pm. Although I understand that my friend was late, it was weird that they would only allow an hour of dining/seating. So, throughout our meal we were a bit worried, uncomfortable, and felt rushed. Tucked along Greenpoint Avenue, just a short stroll from Transmitter Park, the location alone sets the tone--but what happens inside is even better. The vibe strikes that rare balance: intimate and cozy, yet undeniably lively. Even at a 5:45 reservation--with our 4.5-month-old in tow--it felt like a true night out. The room had energy, warmth, and that effortless buzz that makes you want to linger. The food absolutely blew us away. We ordered a wide range--oysters, Hokkaido milk bread, the newly added five-spice lamb ribs, red snapper sashimi, Japanese sweet potato, wagyu NY strip, and sticky toffee pudding--and not a single dish missed. Every plate was thoughtful, balanced, and memorable in its own way. The drinks held their own just as much as the food. We tried a mix of cocktails and sake--three sours (two mezcal, one gin), a whiskey cocktail, and a serving of sake--and each one was just as well executed as the last. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the service. Across the board--from the hostess to the FOH team to management--we felt genuinely cared for. Attentive without being overbearing, warm without feeling scripted--it elevated the entire experience. And for everything we ordered, the value was honestly shocking in the best way. To have that caliber of food and service, order generously, especially for a Michelin Guide spot--feels almost unheard of. It's no surprise they're on the Michelin Guide, and we're already wondering how they don't have a star yet. This will absolutely be in our regular rotation. I was at this unique Japanese New American restaurant with a small group having hosted that day for once. As per recent reviews, I went here a while ago and I'm using prices from back then but I don't think there's been that many changes outside of most of the dishes costing an extra dollar compared to before. The staff was friendly and I liked the inside of the place. It wasn't too loud in there even when a lot of people arrived and the food overall was excellent with some particularly good dishes. To drink I had the namesake Lingo, their Apple Sazerac with Akashi Japanese whiskey, LeMorron calvados, sakura bitters, and absinthe for $18. It was drier than the usual sazerac and had a pleasant light apple flavor. We soon got two of our smaller plates. The Hokkaido Milk Bread for $7 listed as freshly baked daily with hickory smoked sake butter was delicious. It had a soft pull-apart texture and the butter indeed had a slight smoky flavor. We ordered an extra bread eventually as we liked it so much. Pretty tasty was the Crispy Cauliflower for $17 with lime curry crema, soy glaze, and beni shoga pickled ginger. The cauliflower had a nice light fry with some citrusy zest to it. While I am not the biggest fan of gari/pickled ginger, it worked here. This was fine but less notable. Soon arriving enough was one our main dishes. My favorite of the bunch was probably the Crescent Duck A L'Yuzu for $41 listed as our take a on a classic duck a l'orange, duck leg katsu croquette, roasted duck breast, caramelized endive, umeboshi date puree, and pickled rhubarb. The duck while not the biggest piece was perfectly cooked and had a little bit of a citrus flavor. The endive in the middle had a wonderful texture and the croquette was delicious on the side with a soft fry and was very juicy. They get honestly sell the croquettes alone as either a fancy bar snack or appetizer or something to go and I think that would be a big hit. For the same price at $41 was the Lingo Beef Pie listed as a Hokkaido style braised beef curry with bone marrow and burnt rosemary. We partially decided to go here for this dish and it was good though not as good as I expected. The presentation is striking but it was odd that there wasn't any bone marrow within said bone as I think the marrow had gone into the curry. The crust of the pie was outstanding but I found the actual curry compared to most Japanese curries I've had to be way too thin and a bit less flavorful. I'm not sure if it's because I'm used to Go Go and other spots but the curry here was almost watery. If the curry was stronger and thicker, I think that this would have been excellent as the beef was very tender. The rosemary which is burnt at the table was a fun touch as well. Surprisingly good was the Smoked Pork Belly Kakuni for $28 listed as a soy 5hr slow braised duroc pork, fuji apple, edamame, and pickled mustard seeds. The pork belly was bigger than expected though I do usually see kakuni on izakaya menus or other spots as a small plate so I guess the bigger portion makes sense. The pork was tender and fatty but the combination of the apple and mustard seeds helped to reduce the overall richness. This was excellent and I would highly recommend it to share at least. We also got an order of the Crispy Potato Mille-Feuille for $18 with dashi cream, tobiko caviar, and chives which was no ordinary potato side dish and was an unexpected highlight. I absolutely loved the texture of the potato and the bit of cream and caviar on the side help to cut the richness. The portion size was good also and I would in short heavily recommend this as well. Outside of perhaps the beef pie which was a little bit disappointing mostly because of our high expectations and the cauliflower which was just alright, everything else was very tasty. If I was in the area, I would go back and try a lot more of their dishes. We liked 5 of the 7 dishes a ton and that's a rarity. Mid 4. read more

Another new and chic, Japanese fusion in town. I really wanted to like this spot, but it's just alright. The good: The restaurant is located in a prime location in Greenpoint that's right by the water with a beautiful view of the city. When you enter, the interior is intimate and modern, great for a date or just a friend's gathering. The service was good - our server checked in on us a couple of times and refilled our waters without having to ask. The not-so-good: Unfortunately, the food fell short for us. Smoked Tamago Sando - these mini sandos looks so cute and were great for sharing, but the toast was on the drier side. The tamago itself was good with a light smoky flavor. Yuzu Ricotta Pancakes - soft, but not the fluffiest. Yuzu ricotta flavor was nice, but very light. Wild Mushroom Toast - very flavorful compared to the other dishes and was a tad too salty for our liking Oolong tea ice cream - honestly, this was the best item we had, but it was still lacking the strong oolong flavor we were hoping for. I would be open to trying their dinner menu next, but only if someone else suggests it and not on my own. I think Lingo is good and alright, but nothing outstanding. So why the 2? Lingo reminds me of other similar Japanese fusion spots in Brooklyn and this would stack lower imo read more

Maybe the best dining experience i've ever had?? Lingo is doing it right on all bases. WOW! Absolutely blown away. Just wow. A gorgeous space, small yet sophisticated and maximized to its potential. Their kitchen is maybe the size of a new york bedroom, and they are pushing out some of the tastiest dishes in the city. Decided to really order the whole menu HAH! Highlights across the board were the uni crispy rice, mushroom umami rice dish, persimmon burratta salad, Udon Crab Scallop special, and their hokkaido milk bread! Really everything lol. Our server Ashley was an absolute gem! So knowledgable about the menu, personable, and really just great energy. Shoutout to the whole front of house. I was going into dinner a little hesitant, and left absolutely impressed and ready to come back. Keep fucking killing it. read more

May be I was expecting too much from this place?! I wanted to give them only 3.5 star. The service was great, we ordered few dishes from "recommended popular dish " but unfortunately we were not so impressed. The only dish that we liked the most was potato Mille-feuille. It was a perfect combination of dashi cream with chives and tobiko as a garnish. Duck was good but nothing special, beef tartare lacked flavor, curry beef pie was so runny that needed a bowl of rice but then when we ate it together, flavor demolished. A must try in Greenpoint! I had the pleasure of dining here for a friends birthday on a weekend. This little unassuming spot is way larger than meets the eye. We were greeted inside by a kind hostess and a complimentary champagne toast while we waited by the high tops for our table. Once seated, the chef came out and introduced himself to us, wishing the birthday girl a great experience, which I thought was sweet. The staff was very attentive to us and the table's various dietary/allergy needs and the food just KEPT ON COMING! Where do I begin? I had 2 drinks and both were fantastic. Shoutout to the Mezcal option on their menu. Perfection with passionfruit. The Hokkaido Milk Bread with hickory smoked sake butter is a crowd pleaser. Fresh and delicious. We had some Bluefin tuna crudo I believe. I'm not sure if this is currently on the menu but this was great as well, not too fishy but definitely gives sushi vibes. The Castelfranco Chicory Citrus Salad was fresh and unique with great textures to keep the salad exciting. The other salad we tried, the Fuyu Permission Burrata dish, was equally as unique and tasty, served with yuzu kosho vinaigrette, pistachios, borage flower, fennel pollen A favorite of mine was the Potato Mille-Feuille with Caviar, Dashi Cream and Chives as it was so flaky and they do not skimp on the caviar. So so rich and filling. Another favorite of mine was the Japanese shisito peppers with Spanish sheep's milk cheese. I've never seen shisito served like this and it's inspiring me to try to recreate this at home as the cheese balances out the char from the peppers. Onto some mains. If you're a fish fan, you'll love the Branzino and Little Neck Clams. If you aren't, you'll probably won't. I enjoyed it but watch out for stay bones! The crescent duck a l'yuzu included classic duck a l'orange, duck leg katsu croquette, roasted duck breast, caramelized endive, umeboshi date puree, pickled kumquat and was interesting and I really enjoyed how tender each piece was. I think most people would enjoy this. Another favorite of mine was the roasted bone marrow steak tartare. This includes black sesame goma dare, cheddar cheese and nori hand wraps. You can add uni as well. The Lingo Beef Pie is a must have! It reminded me of Shepard's pie, with a really flaky and perfectly baked top. We had the beef curry and the yasai curry and both were flavorful, filling and rich. I really enjoyed the mushroom rice dish add on as well and think most people would also. Umami, hot and nutritious! Finally, all the deserts were great but the sticky toffee pudding takes the cake (no pun intended)! The hazelnuts are reminiscent of Nutella and this dish really is the perfect ending. I'd go back. No questions asked. Everything was amazing. Thank you Lingo! read more

Cute brunch spot! We tried the breakfast platter, the pot pie, the crispy rice, the duck sando and the pancakes. Everything was solid, the crispy rice perhaps the weakest. The pancakes, the duck sando and pot pie were my favorite! Also tried the Kohi espresso cocktail and it was well balanced. read more

Really cute space closer to the water in Greenpoint. Went for brunch, made a reservation about a week and a half in advance. Ordered: - SPICY TUNA & TOBIKO CAVIAR CRISPY RICE: Really yummy. For 3 pieces at $16 it did feel a bit steep, but I did enjoy the crispy texture with tuna. - APPLE TART TATIN PANCAKES: This was the star of the show for me. I wish we ordered a full order instead of a single stack. My only regret was they brought this out in the middle instead of at the end as a dessert. I did notice the waiter asking other people if they wanted pancakes out last. - LINGO BEEF PIE: The namesake! I was honestly a little underwhelmed. The crust on the top was very buttery and flaky which was nice. The curry, a bit on the more liquidy side (which was fine), I just found fine in flavor. It was hearty, but it wasn't particularly anything I enjoyed more than something I could get with a box golden curry imo. Glad I tried, but I don't think I'd order it again and wouldn't recommend it tbh. Overall, a very cute brunch spot. The decor is nice, staff were friendly and fast at cleaning/refilling water, and food was solid. I'd for sure come back for the pancakes. Would love to try their sandos. read more

Made a reservation and came for brunch at 12:30pm on a Sunday. The space was beautifully decorated and it felt cozy and chic. Among the three of us, we ordered the milk bread with sake butter, the spicy chicken sandwich, and the Japanese breakfast set. Overall, the food was pretty solid. The milk bread was soft and fluffy, but I feel like that's pretty standard for milk bread. I thought the butter that it came with it was interesting-it was smoky and retained a little bit of the sake flavor. The flaky sea salt that was on top of the butter was a nice touch. The milk bread was pretty tiny though. I really enjoyed the cedar wrapped shio koji artic char that came with the breakfast set. It was cooked perfectly-the fish was juicy and moist but not undercooked. I also enjoyed the spicy chicken sando-the chicken was juicy and there was a good amount of sauce so that the sando wasn't dry. It wasn't really spicy though. I did really like the fries that came with the sando-they were perfectly crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Service was great-our server came by multiple times to refill our water and ask how everything was. Excited to come back and try some of their other dishes! read more
