As a child, up in Northern Ontario, we went to a place in Azilda, where the vanilla soft-serve was GODLY. About 3 years ago, we decided to stop in at Lorna Dunes (near the round about), to give their soft-serve a try. We had no idea what we were about to find. Their soft-serve is THAT SAME delicious, full-cream and same tasting ice cream that we used to eat as kids. I could'd believe it. I called my Sister in St Catharines right away to let her know that the next time she came for a visit, we had to stop. Needless to say, we did. She too was brought back to our childhood, and ever since, it has been our 'Go To' spot for vanilla soft serve, whenever the craving hits, which we are embarrassed to say, is likely more than most. Lorna Dune - Lorna Dunes - the best Vanilla Soft Serve EVER - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Wasaga Beach, Ontario

Owners and staff are so rude! Hated the service last year but my parents wanted to go so we gave it another chance this year. We will never go back and I will never recommend to anyone. This evening not only were the staff rude and unfriendly to my parents and children but they also yelled at me for throwing our ice cream garbage in the indoor garbage cans (there were no garbage cans outside). The woman yelled "no diapers in here!"... First all of all, neither of my children are in diapers anymore and I had just walked in the heat (at 7 months pregnant) from the back of the establishment trying to find a garbage can. My arms were full of ice cream soaked napkins and soggy ice cream cones. On top of it all the washrooms are always locked or inaccessible which makes the whole place impossible to go with young children. Never again!!! Very disappointing! Brought a group of 10 and the girl at the cash was very unwelcoming. My daughter asked for a sample just to be sure she got what she wanted- this was after we placed part of the order. The girl said we don't offer samples because people come in and take samples and don't buy. Save that for the people who don't order. There is a really good ice cream shop up the road with great service closer to the beach. Her attitude was a turn off so we went elsewhere. Should also mention that there wasn't one person in the shop. I guess making zero dollars outweighs good service these days. read more

Have visited this location since I was a little girl but over time, it has certainly changed. The taste of the product hasn't change but the quantity has changed (I swear, a small cone gets smaller every year). The staff have not been friendly any time that I have frequented over the past three years. Additionally, in this day in age, I find it inconvenient that it's a "cash only" business. read more

It's interesting that a previous reviewer offered only one star for this place as it makes no sense. The business, established in the 1950's has indeed been sold to new owners but anyone who remembers the old Paisley Lorna Doon will know that the new owners have done much to improve the place. The previous owners weren't keen on cleanliness. It was a filthy little place! The grimy counters, greasy tables, dusty fixtures, fingerprint smudged windows and dead flies were a complete turn-off. Despite having a cottage just blocks away, I went there only once, saw the filthy surroundings, turned around and never returned. I've worked in restaurants before and I know that if the public area is dirty, the private areas are much worse. That anyone would give that place a good rating is perplexing to me. Paisley Lorna Doon's has re-opened at River Road E. The following review is dedicated to the new Lorna Doons at 3373 Mosley Street in Wasaga Beach's west end. When I found out Lorna Dunes was under new management I returned to find that the new owners have lovingly restored the building, cleaned it up and improved the quality of their food offerings. They now sell Kawartha Dairy hard ice cream along with their soft serve vanilla/chocolate ice cream. If you like frozen yogurt, you can choose from a variety of fruit flavours and have it blended for you. My mother usually chooses a banana/strawberry combination. The machine is cleaned with each use so you aren't going to receive the remnants of someone else's yogurt cone. It's good to see the attention to cleanliness especially since ice cream machines can develop bacteria rather quickly. There is a selection of grilled foods including hamburgers, hot dogs, chili dogs, chicken sandwiches, fries, poutine and more. I've tried all these things and they were all good; generously portioned, included your choice of fresh toppings and cooked on a clean grill. I especially enjoy the gigantic serving of poutine. It is enough for two! Gone is the dirty, claustrophobic video game room. The wall was knocked down to let more sunlight in. The new decor is a nod to the 1950's; red, white and black with linoleum floor and large windows. It's wonderfully clean which is no easy feat considering how busy they get on hot days. The line-up sometimes extends out the front door. Outside, there are a few picnic tables if you like sitting outside. We usually just grab our ice cream or food and walk back to our cottage. A few notables; they sell funnel cakes (beaver tails) which I have not yet tried. They also sell an extra large banana split which is best for two people. I can't eat that much so I haven't ordered these. You can also buy homemade ice cream cakes for special occasions. These cakes are also very large. It would be nice if they created a smaller version suitable for two people. The sundaes come in only one size but they are very good. Real soft serve ice cream with your favourite topping and a generous dollop of whipped cream. You can ask for nuts but I prefer my sundae au-natural. The toppings include: strawberry, cherry, caramel, butterscotch, caramel, and chocolate. There are 2 chocolate sauces. My favourite is the hot fudge sauce but there is also a thinner, unheated chocolate topping. The strawberry topping is excellent too. The soft ice cream appears to be the most popular. It's creamy and yummy! The soft serve comes in chocolate, vanilla or a combination of both (twist). You can add a flavoured dip to your cone. I have tried the chocolate, caramel and cherry flavours. They are all good. I can only eat a small. Bring your appetite if you plan to have a medium or large cone. I almost gave Lorna Dunes 5 stars but I stopped short of that because there is one thing that would make this ice cream store even better: the addition of more sundae flavours. They don't have my favourite piña colada flavour but I'll forgive them because there is so much good about this place that I can overlook this omission. More important for me is that whatever you order, it will be of good quality, generously portioned, reasonably priced and served with the utmost attention to cleanliness. The new owners recognize my family when we go in now and are always friendly and welcoming. In summary, if you are an ice cream fanatic who would reject ice milk or edible oil products in favour of real ice cream, if you are uncompromising about cleanliness, and if you want to visit a piece of Wasaga Beach's history, you'll enjoy Lorna Dunes. Covid disaster! Stay away! Owner walks around no mask, did not put on mask or sanitize before taking our milkshake to the back room where he was out of sight to be made... weird... I inquired about the male owner not wearing a mask or sanitizing himself before entering the kitchen and handling food. I was fed a line of rambling by his I assume wife who was running the cash. When I mentioned the rules set in place by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health unit and that he should comply with these rules as rules are rules, she abruptly told me to go outside, now I had to wait outside because I brought up your failures to protect the health of the public. Funny, when it's busy the store is crammed. When I bring up health regulations I'm banished outside. Avoid getting sick, stay away, these people do not care about your health only money. Plus it's cash only! No non-contact payment, entirely anti covid friendly. Get with the times, get electronic payment method. Cash only businesses come across as revenue tax dodgers. Charge you tax on cash only and you do not get a receipt... shady read more

I went in there the other day with my mom for an ice cream date. Things that disappointed me... #1 - A guy from the city was lost and had gone into the restaurant to ask for directions as anyone would, the owner was VERY rude and did not help him at all. He was driven out of the store (just as we were) by her rudeness and unfriendly replies. #2 - WAY over priced. It will come out to $9 for a large twist cone and a regular sized twist cone. I have not tried anything else besides their soft serve ice cream..... And I plan to KEEP it that way. If you are wanting EXCELLENT quality ice cream and a VERY friendly atmosphere I suggest going to Grandmas Beach Treats off of Old Mosley..... That is the place to be! Monday May 11 2014 Hi for Mother's Day today I took my fiancé and 2 kids to get a cone and try out Lorna Doons. I'm new to Wasaga though I grew up in Collingwood I worked at Golden Fish and Chips for a year and they serve hard Ice cream same way Lorna Doons does. Now I'm just going to take a second here and re name this overrated dump to Lorna Dooms! Anyways we waited in Line which the service was fast but they were just ignorant and brain dead! The speed was about the only good attribute I could see in the entire store. Tables and countertops were FILTHY I was so happy I we wanted was Ice cream. I saw Black Raspberry Thunder and was instantly excited and couldn't wait to have a cone. Like id said I went with both of my kids and just told they rude snob behind the counter what we all wanted and attended to the kids. We all were given our cones and I noticed mine looked redder than normal. I proceeded to eat it and even though it tasted different than I remembered. I was just waiting to get a piece of white chocolate but instead my second bite I got a cherry(which I'm mildly allergic to{my tongue goes numb and/or breaks out in hives} though not deadly allergic it still wasn't what I asked for and was very unpleasant) I went in and at the same time my son needed more napkins so I thought I'd ask for that as well. I went back in and told the lady what happened and she said "NO! I heard you say Cherry". So I threw it out right in front of her plus it was a waffle cone which was an extra dollar. I mean Wow why would I even choose it if A I'm allergic. Cause I avoid it at all cost I'm not too familiarly with the exact taste. I forget the exact name of it but it was cherry and other flavoured ice cream with real cherry pieces in it. Either way after I had asked for more napkins she then gave me MORE attitude and only gave me one god damn napkin!!!! I went out have the napkin to my son then he wanted a bowl for it which again she have me the kinda attitude an 8 year old would give their mother and rolled her eyes. All I wanted was my damn ice cream so I told my fiancé I'd be right back I wasn't not getting it or at least asking about it again since it was my first AND LAST time there. I went back in and told them everything and they kept saying NO NO NO!!! "You it it all anyways"! And I started to tell at her "I'm here on Mother's Day to get ice cream with my family and all I want is a scoop of the ice cream I asked for!!! I even said keep the cone just give me a bowl with one scoop and I'll be out of your hair!!! Still no no no. My kids and finance were outside and couldn't hear anything do I told them to go fuck themselves and that I would have never treated my customers like that when I was doing a similar jog a few years back. On my way out I apologized to the guest and told the once more that they were a piece of shit(both the old ladies). Avoid at all cost trust me plus it's filthy and unorganized. They serve Kawartha Dairy ice cream here! If you aren't familiar with that brand already... Go do it! Kawartha Dairy makes ice cream from scratch in all sort of flavours. While you won't be able to choose from 30 variations you do have a dozen of the fav's to tempt you. It's a Classic little ice cream and burger spot. While we didn't have the burger we saw them finish patting the home made party and cutting up the fries. The burgers looked fabulous. read more

Just like buying a "designer" purse at a flea market, the misspelled name of this place says it all. It claims to be established 1955, but it actually has nothing at all to do with the original and much-loved business except for renting their old location. After lamenting the loss of my favorite childhood ice cream store to my new boyfriend at the time, and after much craving of my favorite chocolate sundae, he finally dragged me to this place a couple of summers ago. Big mistake. The chocolate on the sundae tasted like cheap watered down chocolate you would buy in a squirt bottle at a grocery store and the ice cream was not the high quality of the original restaurant. I took a couple of bites and threw mine out. What a waste of time, money and most of all, my taste buds. I have talked to many people who have been duped by the similar name of this restaurant and have regretted going there, so let this be my public service announcement for locals and tourists alike ... this is not the original ice cream store established 1955, avoid it like the plague. The original restaurant is back now but in a new location on River Road West ... go get the real thing, not this cheap imitation. read more

Love this cute little ice cream parlour. My family and I have stopped here the last two times we've visited Wasaga. Love that they serve Kawartha ice cream and the cookie cones are very original and delicious. I had the salted caramel truffle ice cream in the chocolate chip cookie cone. read more
