I cannot tell you how annoyed I was calling a couple of salons before this one and getting told that they couldn't put my own feathers in (they only use their own). What am I supposed to do if I've bought tons of feathers at places like tradeshows then?! It's not like I'm asking them to do it for free... A stylist at Lorraine's was able to accomodate me the day after I called to schedule an appointment, and did a great job spreading 10 different feather bundles throughout my hair. I've been going to Mel a few years now. At first I didn't know which stylist to choose but I was lucky to get her! She's always so genuine and kind- very down to earth. I didn't know what to do with my hair last time and she suggested a blunt bob and it's really flattering. She has a real eye for what will look good and what is stylish and can advise you. My bob has grown out naturally and still looks great a few months later. Amazing! And she never fails on the highlights and color. When Mel did my hair rose gold I got tons of compliments. If you are a blonde, you need to go see Bee Bond at Lorraine Colour Bar! For years.... yes, YEARS, I was routinely getting my hair bleached and the end result was complete toast. I repeatedly asked my hairdresser why it wouldn't grow and was told to invest in some Biotin. Bee took my hair and turned it into long and gorgeous spun gold. She educated me about deep conditioning, product, and treating my hair like a precious and fragile baby. The result? Two inches of hair growth in a year! A length I haven't seen since 1994... it full, its bright, it's conditioned.... it is by far my greatest feature now and I love it. Rosanna is absolutely amazing! Every time I see her I leave looking amazing, and she gives you a cut/color that you can rock for weeks after you leave the salon. I've always struggled with my hair turning this really coppery/brassy color, even days after I get it colored, but she knew how to fix it and now my hair holds the color for weeks, allowing me to go longer in between coloring to save $ and the quality of my hair. I'm also growing my hair out, and she's given me multiple different cute styles to make the growing-out process fun and with a lot of different versatile styles. There is no one else in LA I would let touch my hair - she's an aboslute gem. The entire staff at Lorraine's is really friendly and helpful, whether it comes to figuring out the perfect style for a special occassion or picking out products. I'm an idiot. I had a great natural hair color and got a box at CVS and turned it dark brown. I went to try to get it fixed and the colorist turned it ashy so it almost looked gray. Then I tried yesterday to have it fixed again, and the woman turned it dark auburn. I had lost all hope after calling several salons on a Sunday until finally calling Lorraine's. MEL literally saved me - and my hair. I expected my hair to turn orange, fall out and be charged hundreds of dollars in the process. Mel is the sweetest woman - and incredibly calm and soothing (which is great when you're in the panicked state I was). I told her I wanted the dark out and as close to my natural blond as possible. She gave me a "soap wash" which took no time at all...we checked the new color, added a few brightening highlights and it almost looks better than my original color when I started. The whole thing was pretty quick and cost $120. I will never get color anywhere else. Mel is the BEST! read more

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place, since I've been going to Mel at Lorraine for hair cuts and color for over a year now. Lorraine has a great atmosphere--lots of natural light, high ceilings, exposed brick, and large mirrors to open the space up--and everyone's friendly and welcoming. They even offer to brew tea for you! And the chairs are super comfortable (very important when you're sitting there for a few hours). Mel does a fantastic job cutting my curly hair. I've been through a bunch of styles with her and she has a great eye for it all: long layers, short bobs, bangs. She listens to what you want and is willing to offer her expert opinion. If you're thinking of going red with your color, this is definitely the lady to go to! I'm sure she's great with other colors, too, but she's really given me a wonderful reddish glow that I get lots of compliments on. I love that she always offers to dry my hair straight--kind of an added bonus at the end of salon visits for us girls with curly locks. I think the price is really fair for the quality, treatment, and little perks you get from this local salon. I wouldn't say it's cheap, but if your hair's important to you, it's definitely worth it!
