This is one of the BEST restaurants in Eddyville. Some of the dishes are more authentic than others, but so far everything I have tried is tasty. One of the big things for me, is how is the salsa and do they have carnitas. The salsa is tasty and flavorful and does not taste overly processed or from a can. And yes, they do have carnitas. Carnitas is a pork dish where the pork is slow cooked and cut in to chunks then fried for a crispy finish. It is usually served with a sauce and tortillas. The pork was not only tender, but it did have the flavor profile that I expect when I order carnitas. The other great thing about Los Agava is the margaritas. There is usually a margarita of the month. This month was banana so I stuck with my usual blue margarita. WOW. These are some strong drinks. If you like spice this is the place for you! I love chilles rellenos and always get them. I also love green sauce which is not usually spicy. So I got chilles Pablanos with green sauce, and believe you me it is very very spicy. I thought it was the pepper but it was the sauce. I should have stuck with the rancheros sauce. But the flavors were spot on! My husband who grows his own peppers and makes pepper jelly was really impressed with the spice. The wait staff is very attentive but didn't think the sauce was spicy. They do make their own sauces with tomatillos so they are probably used to it! This has become our new favorite place, usually not loud and crowded but I bet it can be on weekends. I went there with some of my co-workers one day after a training. The dish I ordered of carnitas tasted pretty good but the salsa was pretty bland that was served with chips. The price was well priced for the amount of food that we received. I did however hear from some of my other co-workers after we had already visited the restaurant, that they had experienced some issues there with rodents being visible. read more

Visited for the first time on 12/28/18 and it was an enjoyable meal. Extensive selection available on the menu - food and drink. Quite a few appetizers, as well. This place can be described simply as delicious! We were in town for the Eclipse and visiting family in Kuttawa, who showed us this place. The service here was fantastic and our food came out incredibly fast! I'm from California and frequent Mexico, so I'm used to amazing traditional Mexican food! I also lived in Texas for two years, so I've had my share of Tex Mex. I don't know how Mexican restaurants in Kentucky and Tennessee label themselves, but the cheese dip is out of this world! Better than traditional Tex Mex queso, this cheese dip is made from white cheese and drenched over everything! I personally got the chimichanga with beef and it was delicious and of course covered in cheese dip! Many of my cousins who live throughout the state get what many restaurants call the special! Here I believe it is the Chuy Special and it is a bed of rice with chicken (or what ever meat you want) all covered in cheese dip! When this place first opened it was amazing. We have eaten here so many times over the years. The last couple of months we have been a few times and its just gone downhill. :/ Today the service was slow, the order was wrong, and to top it off the inside of my burrito that was supposed to be an enchilada was cold. (Was just gonna shut up and eat it anyway because it took so long to get our food for them to be not that busy) Too many employees/ or owners eating , playing on their phones. My parents recently moved to the area & I recently came to visit with them. We decided to try out the local Mexican restaurant. We used to frequent the Mexican place back in Owensboro where they used to live and we loved it. We were crossing our fingers as we walked into Los Agave. From the look of the outside and inside, I would guess this is a pretty new restaurant. We stopped in on a Sunday around 6pm and the place wasn't that busy. We left and 7ish and it still wasn't that busy. I don't know if thats because its a new place or because it's a small town and school has gone back in. The hostess greeted us and sat us at a booth. She was also our server throughout the meal. The chips and salsa were brought out immediately after we sat down. The chips tasted hot and fresh and there were two different bowls of salsa, but I think it was just one kind of salsa. I asked the server if they were the same or different types of salsa and she smiled and said yes. She then came back with two more bowls of salsa. But I tasted all four bowls and I think there were the same. The salsa tasted fresh and had a good chunk to it. I hate when salsa is so runny and tastes like ketchup. These were some good chips and salsa. They've got one of those glow dry erase boards up near the cashier with the daily special on it. The special for that day was the quesadillas supremas for $8.50, regular price $9.75. I am a sucker for some quesadillas so I decided to look no further and get that one. It comes with four quesadillas which include ground beef, shrimp, chopped beef, and chicken. It took no time for our table of four to receive our food. In the middle of the plate was some lettuce, sour cream, pico, and guacamole. My ranking of favorite quesadillas is as follows: 1. Shrimp. Who doesn't love shrimp. It was cooked well and seasoned well. 2. Chicken. I liked the chicken better than the two beef options. The chicken could use a little more seasoning. 3. Chopped beef. The steak in the chopped beef was good, but the onions & peppers in it were a little on the squishy & cold side. I guess since this was a special they might have made a large batch of the onions & peppers for the day. 4. Ground beef. The beef had an okay flavor but is VERY ground. More like minced beef. The texture isn't my favorite. Overall I really did enjoy my meal here & look forward to coming back and trying other entrees they have. read more

The server was polite and the salsa is great but service is terribly slow. They weren't busy at all and it took thirty minutes to get our drink order. After 50 minutes we still don't have food. It is almost 2 in the afternoon with only a few customers. There are people in the same area that are having the same experience. We've only had take out and so far we've had the tacos with rice and beans the enchiladas with rice and beans and tonight we're getting fajitas with rice and beans. If you like really hot sauce you'll have to ask for it otherwise they just give you their plane salsa which is very mild. This was a 3-star meal with 5-star potential. Here's the deal: Two of us went for dinner, ordered fajitas and enchiladas supremas. The fajitas were served warm -- usually fajitas come out sizzling in the pan. The enchiladas were BARELY warm in the middle, literally cold on the ends. The enchiladas (4) came with a small slice of tomato (why bother if you're going to give me half a slice?), some shredded iceberg, a handful of white grated cheese, a bit of sauce to one side, and easily 3/4 cup of sour cream atop it all. The flavor was decent, although I didn't eat the fourth enchilada (cheese, the others being pork, chicken, and bean), because the cheese was cold and rubbery. The fajita was average in flavor-again nothing special, but not awful. It came with plenty of filling. The chips and salsa typical of Mexican restaurants were actually disappointing in that the chips lacked the delicate crispness that makes those fresh salty warm chips so wonderful. The salsa was a bit too thin and watery. Finally, it's a noisy place-the sounds just bounce off the walls making conversation difficult. And you pay at the front...nowadays servers usually handle that. It's classier. read more

When I walked in and was seated I noticed that every single table had Catsup on it. That should have been my clue to get up and walk out the door. Never been in a Mex restaurant that had catsup on every table. I'm still not sure if that was a reflection on the management or the local clientele. Then they brought out the salsa, which tasted like it was from a can apparently and had no hint of onion, lime, or cilantro. It did however taste like they included at least a tablespoon of salt. I had the shrimp 'camarones el diablo' in the 'special sauce. Guess what that turned out to be: ketchup. Arrgh! I was with friends and family so to spare the table embarrassment I did not send it back. Our server was nice and worked hard. I asked her if that was in fact ketchup. She came back and confirmed that yup, it was indeed shrimp in ketchup. Look unless you are starving and the mcdonalds or taco bell across the street are closed, don't bother with this place. It is cheap food. The place was full of fat people happily stuffing themselves with greasy looking beef and over cooked chips. And it arrived quickly. Oh and some of the reviews in here are fake. Take a look at the syntax and use of all caps in the 4/28/17 and 4/19/17. And that 4/28/17 Addicting chips? Heck no not those overcooked brown things. She's from Vancouver I been there Mexican food out west is overall way good so I don't believe that review either. Also the 10/25/16 food authentic mexican? No way, Jose that is just a freaking lie and most likely a paid or stooged review. Turns out it is not possible to leave zero stars so they get one just for being there. Recommendation: Avoid. Ordered Fajita taco salad and side of guac. Good guacamole has chunks of avacado, tomato, onion but this had none of that. It tasted like a mediocre guacamole. The FT salad looked great but the first 3 bits of steak were full of gristle. That is when I started writing this review. The staff was friendly. The place looks clean. Los Agaves has a menu with 3 or 4 pages of selections. I ordered Molcajete with shrimp sauteed with onion, tomatoes and your choice of jalapeno, poblano or bell peppers, topped with ranchero or tomatillo sauce, garnished with cambray onion, cactus leaf and white cheese. Served with rice, beans and tortillas. It would easily serve 2 or 3 people. I counted about 2 dozen shrimp (and I'm not talking popcorn size)! The broth is very flavorful. I tried the cactus leaf--that must be an acquired taste. The cheese is served as a rectangular log (you get two) and it slowly melts as you are eating. Service was friendly and the food came fast. The brand new Princeton location is a very pretty. The food is probably the most bland mexican food that I've ever eaten. A sit down mexican joint that doesn't make their own chips or salsa. Bland over-cooked chicken in my dates California burrito. My shrimp chimichanga was probably the smallest one I've ever seen. It tasted decent, but again....it was all very bland. We stopped for dinner here last night after looking through Yelp reviews. One dinner was a taco and chile relleno plate with rice and beans. The other dinner was a burrito, a tostada and a taco. After the glowing reviews and high ratings, we both expected better food than what you might get at Taco Bell. The meat was the same in each item, so it must have come out of a communal vat. The chile relleno had no outside breading and was just a soft poblano pepper with the communal meat and a little cheese sauce. The burrito was similarly bland and generic with only the boring meat and a tortilla. The beans tasted like they came straight out of a can. The one thing that made the dinners edible and provided the only flavor and was by adding a hot sauce we requested on the side. We will look elsewhere next time. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Don't be fooled by these 4-5 star reviews, this is the worst place to eat in Kentucky. It is nowhere close to good Mexican food. Every beef and pork dish is full of gristle and huge wads of fat. The guacamole tasted like jalapeño lime juice, no avocado taste at all. How can you screw up guacamole? I don't know but they sure did! If you substitute ANYTHING on your plate be prepared to pay dearly for it. We paid 6 dollars for 2 tablespoons of cheese dip, would have been cheaper to buy a bowl of dip and add it ourselves. We ordered 3 meals under 8.99 and a kids meal, no alcohol just tea and Our receipt was 65.00. Never again will throw my money away here. The manager here is a waste of oxygen, he has no clue why all the extra charges are on your ticket and starts talking in spanish until you just give up.
