I'm going to preface this review by saying this is my all time favorite Mexican restaurant, so there will probably be some bias in this review but for good reason. The first time I came to Los Agaves I stumbled upon randomly when we were in the area. Going into it I didn't expect too much just some tasty enchiladas similar to something I've had before but I was so wrong. When I was blessed with that first bite of enchiladas I was taken back. I had never had never had enchiladas like that before and this theme prevails throughout their entire menu. Everything is here is SO GOOD. Whenever I come here the service is always top notch and the aesthetic of this location is the best one in my opinion compared to other locations. Plus they have a salsa bar who doesn't love one of those, by the way make sure you load up on the avocado salsa that one is great. We got the agaves enchiladas and this is my favorite item on the menu. They are enchiladas drenched in this creamy chipotle sauce with a side of rice and salad. The chipotle sauce on these really make it and you won't regret getting these. If you are more of a burrito person look no further than the agaves burrito this is also one of the best burritos I've had. You know anything that has the restaurants name in the item is a sure fire hit so you can't go wrong with any of these. After having your chips and amazing entrée I would also suggest the churros here once again one of the best I've ever had down to the crunchiness of the outside and dough on the inside. Going through this review you must be thinking this guy sounds sensational he said best I ever had in every other sentence it can't really be that good. We used this Mexican restaurant as a meeting spot to pick up our new foster puppy from my bestie is SoCal. We met up with her mom, my two godbabies (her two pup kiddos), and our foster, Eloise. We chose this spot partially because it stated dog friendly location aside from the fact that the 4K+ reviews were 5 stars. Yelp raved about their Los Agaves enchiladas and burrito. This time, I chose to go with their burrito. My partner got the Mojave's burrito. Both arrived wet with green and pink sauce smothered over it on their warm outdoor patio. We wish we got to try their horchata as they were out by 630pm on a Sunday which was unfortunate. Restaurant manager: please make enough for your patrons to wet their whistle. My friend and her mom ordered the chicken fajitas. We all loved our meals. The flavor was there and the service was excellent. We checked in with the manager to see if they can boil some chicken for our puppos. Unfortunately, they don't have a doggo friendly menu including plain boiled chicken. The manager said that all their meat is pre-marinated which isn't safe for our puppos so we declined. Other than that, service was excellent and food even better! A friend has been telling us about this place and we finally decided to try it. And we are so happy we did. It's not on state street but it's worth the short drive away from it. Their food was very savory. Not your regular Mexican food, more like a fusion. Each plate was filling, we enjoyed it and our time there. I had ordered Costillitas but they had run out and allowed me to order anything off the menu, regardless of price. I appreciated that very much. One of the best Mexican sit-down restaurants you'll find in SoCal. It's a bit of a bummer they don't have a location in L.A. (besides Westlake Village), but I get it--the L.A. Mexican food scene is incredibly diverse, competitive, and constantly evolving. I'll admit this review is a little biased because I always order the Burrito Mojado with chicken. I did branch out once to try the asada nachos, which were good, but nothing to write home about. What I've tried: Burrito Mojado (Chicken) - This is the dish to get. A large burrito smothered in rich red sauce and topped with cotija cheese. It comes with sour cream, guacamole, rice, and a small salad with tomatoes on the side. The chicken inside is grilled with a nice charred flavor, the refried beans are creamy and mild, and the cheese brings the whole thing together. I think of this as an XL enchilada, but it's really a wet burrito--and it's easily one of the best I've had anywhere. Asada Nachos - Standard setup with beans, cheese, house-fried tortilla chips, sour cream, and pico de gallo. The asada was nicely marinated, likely flap steak, with a bit of char. Good overall, but I'd stick with the burrito next time. Salsa bar - One of the best I've experienced. Their spicy avocado salsa alone is worth mentioning, but they also offer multiple salsas, pickled onions, jalapeños, cilantro, and fresh pico. Super generous. They even give you a bag of chips for free. If they opened a location closer to L.A., I'd be a regular. Until then, this spot stays one of my favorite destinations whenever I'm in the area. read more

I ordered the taquitos dorados. They were full of flavorful meat and tons of toppings, however, they went into the box hot and the box filled with condensation and they turned to mush. It would have been great had they had the tacos separate for to go orders then you add them upon arrival. They were still good but I had to use a spoon to eat them. Also, the menu shows it would just be the tacos but this came with beans and rice. The rice was on point, the beans were just eh. But, I wasn't expecting either so there's that. We found parking a few blocks away and seating was open so we enjoyed the fresh weather outside on the patio. Perfectly shaded or unshaded based on preference, with a nice light breeze. After you order, they bring items out as they are ready so they are hot as you get them...but not all together. Altight let's get to the food! The guava margarita was very delicious with subtle hints of guava making the generous portion of tequila! It was even more delicious with a takin rim! Then we tried the chicken poblano.... Absolutely amazing! So much flavor in the chicken and melted cheese with the poblano cooked perfectly! I don't like eggs so this was perfect for me! We also had to try the ceviche tostada. All of the beat was cut exactly the same showing culinary talent! So flavorful with lemon and maybe lime frolicking in your mouth! I loved the guacamole base on the tostada underneath the fish, however i could do without the lettuce. I did not like that. The choice of salsas was thoroughly covering everyone's palate from spicy to mild, green, red, and quemada, some garlicky and some lemony! Finally the hubby got a Birria burrito. It was full of shredded beef and flavorful, very tasty! The consume was a perfect touch, however it was unfortunately flavorless. Maybe due to the immense flavors of everything else! They do have taco Tuesday, which isn't obvious until you walk up to the counter. They have a salsa bar where you can sample different options. They also have a cute patio area in the back with outdoor seatings, and a small parking lot in the back. We tried the Agaves Burritos and Chile Verde Burrito. The portion was generous. My husband loved his entree- pork shank recommended by the server. HUGE and delicious with homemade tortillas - YUM. Everything was fresh and delicious for him. Fantastic Margarita - my favorite item here along with the salsas from the salsa bar. So my only wish is that there were more vegetarian options.
