My mother and I were visiting from out of town for a short girls getaway. She has visited Platteville in the past but has never had the chance to stop in and enjoy the food/drinks at Los Amigos. Definitely had high hopes! We arrived about 4 or so on a Saturday, the place was completely empty, and were greeted promptly with chips and salsa. I tried to order some top shelf tequila with some club soda and lime but I was told no club soda available. Ok that's fine. Small inconvenience. Tried to order my mom a long island but was told that wasn't available? Hmmmm, ok, I definitely see a fully stocked bar. We reluctantly agreed to order some margaritas, but asked for them on the rocks with salt. Was told no salt due to Covid????? Why couldn't they just sprinkle salt on a plate and rim our glasses? The final straw with this spot was when they told us they didn't have any chicken wings because of Covid shortages. And their appetizer menu was severely lacking. Ordered quacamole, received a pretty small bowl that was definitely mixed with a filler, had no flavor, and had to ask for extra chips to go with it. We drank our sub par margaritas, my mom ended up with an awful stomach ache from the amount of sweet and sour, and then we later went to the pizza place down the street and ate some delicious chicken wings there. No bueno Los Amigos, no bueno. read more

Stopped for supper after touring UW Platteville. Ordered 3 entrees. Barely had time to dig into our chips and salsa and our food was at our table. Chile Chicken Relleno, Burrito Chicken Fantastico and Pollo Loco were all delicious. Staff were courteous and attentive. Will definitely be back since we will have a college student moving in. read more

Out of the many Mexican restaurants in Platteville, this one is my favorite. The prices are fair for the amount of food you receive and the waiters are always kind. The food always comes out super fast and is always delicious! I highly recommend this place! read more

One visit to here was one to many. I'll never be back. Never checked on, never got asked for refills, the food came out one piece at a time over 20 minutes for our table, it was "okay" food, and if we wouldn't have asked three times for our checks we would've sat there all night! read more

Horrible experience. On a tight travel schedule. Excessive wait for everything from menus to chip refills. Hardly any ice in our drinks. Servers would disappear for long periods of time. Flies.Bland salsa. Requested spicier. Burned both our tongues, and we are from South Texas. Beans tasted weird. My green enchiladas (sin cream) were good. My son's fajita Mexicana were inedible. I usually love coming to this spot for my Mexican food cravings but recently the past few months, customer service and food quality went down. It started off with just bad customer service at first where the waitresses would "forget" our orders so my husband and I would wait about 20-30 minutes for our food on days that aren't even busy at all. This continues for a few more times but we didnt mind because the food was good and fresh. However, the last visit and today's visit, my husband and I waited about an hour for six tacos on Taco day. We decided to just do take out instead; so as we were paying for our food, the waitresses had been giving more attention to the bigger groups and skipping over us. We were so mad that we didn't even care to tip their "services." When we got home, the food looked and tasted like it had been sitting around for awhile. It was not fresh at all and it was not even warm. The place was understaffed on their most popular day and it felt like they didn't prep ANYTHING the night before to prepare for this. I noticed the smaller groups waited as long as we did. Crappy place and (now) crappy food. Avoid and go to the other four Mexican restaurants in town instead. read more

My husband and I love Mexican Food so we stopped in while passing through Platteville. The staff was friendly and attentive and the guacamole they brought us with the tortilla chips was really good. My husband ordered the fish tacos and I ordered the Camarones de Ajo. Both were amazingly good and the portions were more than we could eat. Overall we enjoyed our experience and would stop again. read more

4 tables two which came in after us and all three were served food long before us. I and my niece ordered fajita salads, and my 14 month old a quesadilla. The waiter never did come back after someone dropped our food. Then we sat waiting for the bill until I was able to track someone down. Poor service food was okay. I used to come to Los Amigos when I was in college and when I would come to visit family. It's taken a big turn downhill since then, at least based on the experience today. We were told that they ran out of salsa after getting our first little bowl (split between 8 people). It's Saturday at lunch time you'd think they would have everything on hand for the weekend. And what mexican restaurant runs out of salsa. The salsa they did give us tasted as if it was from a jar off the shelf at a dollar store. They meal took a long time to get to the table and they brought it out in shifts so the first person to get food was finished before the last started eating. Food was okay but not what I remember. We were going to order fried ice cream for dessert, but guess what...they were out of that too. After this experience it'll be hard to go back there the next time I'm in town. read more

This place was awesome. Any place serving genuine corn tortillas and homemade-tasting Horchata gets five stars in my book. The menu is expansive, but not in a crippling way. I recommend the fajita or the chiles rellenos. It's also neat that they ask "Mexican or American" style on the tacos. One for the folks who want good food and an option for the haters too . They also did COVID right. Tons of hand sanitizer and lots getting sterilized before our eyes. Good distancing and mask wearing protocol. Wash it down with a boozy margarita for that extra health benefit. read more

Really good authentic Mexican food.. Portion size was more than plenty and dining options were plentiful. Margaritas good size good price. Love Los Amigos! Carlos and Co. rock! Hole in the wall Mexican like you'd find in bigger cities. Good food, fairly cheap, burritos as big as your head (if you have a pretty big head!) but quite small inside and until recently the walls were adorned with a gawdy, handpainted cactus motif that only added to the place. Univision on the TV (can you say, "Mexican wrestling"?)! Open LATE to accommodate the bar crowds! Hispanic grocery attached! We had the most amazing server one day and normally it's counter service. He didn't look a day over 12 (although I'm sure he was just a late bloomer) and he was THE BEST server I've had in years! read more

The food was poor quality, small portions, not as advertised on the menu (a burrito has more than a tablespoon of meat and a tortilla), margarita was 80% ice ( not worth the $4 for 12oz cup), there was a single guy singing karaoke during our entire dinner loud enough that we couldn't even talk to each other (we were there at 8:00pm on a Friday) , looked like there was one waiter doing everything while the rest of the staff sat on their butts by the bar listening to the terrible singing. Food is great--service hideous. Have been here many times over the years, but not since expanded. Blonde Bimbo of the Month waited on us. Maybe if it hadn't been a weekday at noon, but a last call at night visit by testosterone-filled college boys, it wouldn't have been a big deal. Apparently, boss was cooking (?)--which bimbo attributed to all her own errors--late drinks--late meals--wrong meals -wrong condiments--(we were only patrons in dining room at 11:15AM) Food is delicious--pico de gallo is great--celestial perfection. Waitress like guy on Saturday Night Live __"yeah, that's the ticket"--anything that went wrong was blamed on boss, planetary positions, wrong people, wrong time--anything but her own dumb ass incompetence and clear lack of experience in customer service. The Bimbo routine may work at Hooters--we just wanted lunch. My partner's huevos rancheros were superb, if lacking tortilla support as a base--weird. Have never received an 'empty" taco before. Or empty enchilada. Just a tablespoon of lettuce and beans inside. "So how's everything tasting?" --throwaway line. When we said it was not what we had ordered, she just looked blankly at us and said "well the boss is cooking today" And that is what you ordered. No apology, just a blank look , and quickly sashayed away as if dismissing our petty concerns. Anyone can make a mistake--but her constant deflection of responsibliity on the owners, etc. was the source of irritation--never owned anything. I cannot imagine the owners would appreciate her making those comments about them. LOSE THIS IDIOT SERVER--PLEASE--or we will not come back. Owners are lovely, kind people. Prices and ambiance are great--but invisible taco and enchilada entrees at least merit the Weight Watchers discount. read more

Always very good. Love their chipoltle chicken lunch and dinner! Give it them a try. The atmosphere at Los Amigos is a bit lacking, but adequate. Seating is limited. We love the attached hispanic grocery for hard to find items, especially in SW Wisconsin. Their refried beans tend to be on the soupy side, but tasty non-the-less. Let me start by saying I used to LOVE Los Amigos. It was my favorite place to go and take guests out to eat. However the last few times I've gone things have been very different than they have been. The food is still great and the menu is fantastic but the staff has gone way downhill. There's one in particular that is incredibly lazy and doesn't seem to care, and this is based on multiple visits not just a one off thing. On My most recent visit I waited for half an hour for my food before I went up and asked what was the deal, during which time the aforementioned waiter NEVER checked on us or refilled my glass or chips. It was moderately busy but from what I could tell this waiter only had 2 or three tables including us. Thankfully the owner Carolina was there and got me my food quickly, but the poor service from the waiter continued. The visit before that was a to go order just for a burrito. I asked for a grande chicken burrito with no beans. what I got was a grande chicken burrito with only chicken and rice. No lettuce, tomato, sour cream, or cheese. The receipt had my order correct so this was a kitchen mess up and would have been fine on its own, but my friends burrito didn't even have the right meat in it and was also missing beans, despite him asking for everything in it. Last story (sorry but I find it necessary to share multiple experiences in hope of something changing) is from about a month ago when I took my visiting friend to Los and again had the aforementioned waiter. First of all she ordered a Margarita and did not get carded, she is 19 and looks younger. She was very clearly joking and this waiter didn't care. I ordered a margarita as well and asked for it blended and received it on the rocks. When we got our food there was again an issue, my plate had beans on it and was messy as if the plate was tilted so the beans ran over the rest of my food. I asked for no beans, and the waiter made a fuss when I asked him to get me something else, he even tried to make me pay for the food that was incorrect and ruined. Never apologized. There is some amazing staff members at Los Amigos, if your waitress is Ashley or Lauren you are going to have a great time. They are both fantastic and I feel bad that they may end up sharing tips with a bad co-worker. Carlos and Carolina are both great people and will do anything to make your experience a good one, I'd even consider them acquaintances which is why I am using a fake name here. I don't think I can recommend Los to my friends or anyone anymore. Which makes me sad because I used to adamantly argue that Los Amigos is the best place for Mexican food in town. It definitely is no longer the best I'm sorry to say. As a once regular customer the only time I'm going back is at bar time when the line at Jimmy Johns is too long. read more

Less impressive on the inside than on the outside, but don't be chased away by the atmosphere. If you know your way around a Mexican menu you can find something quite authentic here. (I would avoid the deep fried cheesy things they have on the menu to please the local gringos, who as far as I can tell don't show up anyway.) We had the "combination fajitas" (mixed grill parillada) with corn tortillas. Would have appreciated a few more shrimp, but with little bit of that bottled brown habanero sauce sprinkled on your self-assembled tacos and you have something delightful. The food has always been gratifying and, Carlos, the owner is a nice guy. However, the service is about as good as asking your diabetic cat to make you dinner. Anytime after the hour of ten o'clock PM is about the same time as the women than work the counter hit menopause. All they want to do is sit around and bitch looking for some sort of a power trip. They wouldn't turn down Miley Cyrus' music which was blaring, and refused to trust two adults with hot sauce (might I remind you, we were sober and the only two people there besides the employees friends.) As my friend and I were discussing the lack of professionalism in the restaurant, the woman who was on duty and simultaneously eating her burrito at a table, threw a to-go bag at us and said ever so 15 year oldishly, "If you hate it so much here, you can just leave." The wife and I drove through Platteville on the way to Greenbay and took a gamble on this place. Being from Texas, my choice to end up in a mexican restaurant in Wisconsin was heavily scrutinized by my hispanic wife. HOLY COW am I happy she rolled with the decision. The food was great, the service was prompt, and the waitstaff was very friendly. It ranks right up there with my favorite Mexican spots in Texas. (Not Tex-mex btw. There's a difference) read more

Our company loves to order from this restaurant on Taco Thursday's, and because we are working we get the order delivered. We order a large quantity of tacos almost on a weekly basis. We have one of Spanish speaking coworkers call to place the order to avoid any miscommunication. We understand if the staff forgot to send us small things like salsa or lime for our tacos. However, the staff recently shorted our order and got some orders wrong. When we called back to have them bring the items missing and complain about the wrong orders being delivered, the person that answered the phone immediately became aggressive to the point of asking we go to the restaurant to deal with her personally. How can someone in a customer service environment be so aggressive? Word of mouth is what can make or break a reputation and we have informed all of our company staff of how horrible there service has been. read more
