Pretty disappointed with our experience tonight. The restaurant was not busy by any means and it was 10 minutes before anyone even came to our table and addressed us. A tall gentleman with a shaved head finally came over and specifically asked for our drink order before promptly leaving again. After handing us our waters, he went back to speaking with a lady at the counter for almost 15 more minutes as we waited for him to return to take our food orders. He even made eye contact with us several times as we watched him. I finally had to wave at him until even the woman noticed. For context, I'm a very fair-skinned Cuban with blue eyes. Very often people assume that I'm Caucasian and only speak English. The woman then said to our waiter in Spanish, "See? They did want to order," to which our waiter responded (in Spanish) "They just said they wanted water." I was shocked at the blatant lie, but was even more shocked when the woman had to come over instead since our waiter would not. "Sorry," she said in English, "there was a little misunderstanding." Our waiter did not come back to our table for the rest of the night. What saved the night was the speed of the kitchen staff and the good-tasting food, and even then, i could only give 2 stars. read more

As someone who has actually lived in Mexico for 3 years and another 12 years in San Antonio TX I feel like I have a pretty good handle on what real Mexican food tastes like I must say that this place has authentic Michoacán style food and is excellent quality with reasonable prices. A great new find for me.. Enjoyed my meal. My friend's first visit as well and he ordered the same and also loved it. Good experience and the service was fast and friendly. Will return on my way to Gainesville next time. Well worth the stop. This was lunch. Will try dinner in the near future. read more

We ate here last night and everyone was pleased with their food. One friend ordered the "quesadilla loca" and loved it. It looked fantastic! I had flautas which were good, though pretty standard. Liked the chips and salsa and the little bit of guac that came with my food was good - not the gross stuff from a container. Husband had the carnitas and they were pretty good, but maybe not as good as we had in Gainesville at another restaurant. If you are interested in Mexican food this place is worth checking out. They had some nice-sounding specials posted on the wall. Next time will probably give those a try. read more

This was my second visit. We started off with stale chips and was disappointed in the quality of the fajitas as well as lack of service. The steak was grisltly in the fajitas. Even though the place was not crowed we waited five minutes for a refill on the salsa. The men's bathroom was flooded and the manager apparently was aware of it but they were not staying on too of the problem. The other meals were decent but the overall experience was disappointing. read more

Great food and service!!! The young lady who was our server was by her self and we did not wait for anything. She acknowledges us right away and was very friendly!!! Always wanted to eat here but every time I passed it it was too early or too late. Today was just right!! I would highly recommend this place!!! read more

Lots of good food and authentic Mexican beverages at a very fair price. Wait staff is both courteous and efficient, if a bit shy. I wished they'd have more specialty plates, but the ones they have are great. I'd save the tacos and enchiladas for the standard strip-mall joints, because the important thing to keep in mind when going to Los Avina is that it is a Mexican Restaurant with a real (not American) Mexican family doing a really great job. read more

My favorite Mexican restaurant in North Central Florida-- it's the most authentic & the prices are excellent. It's definitely not pretentious, so feel free to arrive in shorts & flip flops. (It's definitely worth the drive from Gainesville!) I've eaten here since it first opened in the mid 2000's (2005?). It has not changed much, not even w/ regard to prices, but no longer is live music offered a few nights each week. The wait staff was once entirely Hispanic, & many were family members; that has changed as well. (The young kids helping their parents were adorable.) The food is still very good, the quantity larger than what's served @ most Mexican restaurants, & the service is still great. The restaurant had zero health violations upon its last inspection. For $9.25, I got the burrito/taco plate w/ rice & refried beans. Each combo meal comes w/ chips & salsa. (See pic.) Mexican & American beer, as well as wings, are on the menu. I love that whenever I stop in I see a handful of Hispanic patrons. Bathrooms are clean & neat w/ handicapped rails (see pic.), there's a large front porch for groups (screened-in & hence not air conditioned), & the half paved/half gravel parking lot is huge & easily accessible. Whenever you're hungry for Mexican & feel like a short drive, head to this restaurant. It hands down beats all the chains in Gainesville. read more

The food here is pretty good and the people are nice, but if I was even remotely close to La Fiesta or Las Margaritas I would go to one of those places. It's good for Archer though. read more

Las Avina has the best Mexican food in this area of N. Florida. They are consistent in the flavor and presentation of their dishes. It is one of my family's favorite restaurants to dine at and we hope it doesn't change. I can't say we have ever ordered anything that hasn't been delicious! The enchilada sauce is so good I could eat it by the bowl full! We live in High Springs, but are happy to make the drive to dine at this good restaurant! read more

Terrible service. We phone in orders an were told 10 minutes. I waited 40 before I went in to pick up the order because I knew they were often slow. When I got there I noticed a man and woman walked in at the same time and ordered a bunch of food to go. After 20 minutes he got his order and I was still waiting. An hour later I finally got my order. I told the woman I was upset at how I was treated and had been a customer there since the day they opened, and did she know why I was upset. " Kinda," she said. I proceeded to tell her why, and told her, " You never even had the courtesy to apologize!" " Well, we were busy, but I apologize." I told her that was no apology and that a guy got his order 40 minutes before me, and had ordered 40 minutes after me. She had no reply and no idea how to run a business. She knew I was upset but did nothing to placate me. I wont go there anymore, nor will any of my family members or business staff- but she's not the owner, and does not care. She'll still get her paycheck. read more

Fajitas were very good. Hot, lots of food. Definitely filling. Only 3 tortillas so I ate some of the food with a fork.
