Las Carretas was packed because of graduation, so we decided to head over here and BEST CHOICE EVER! Not only was it better, but there was no wait. We sat outside, there is plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Easy parking right out front. They brought out complementary salsa prior to our food. The food was fresh, reasonably priced, and came out on time. Great place, wish I knew about it sooner. Surprised it wasn't packed like Las Carretas always is.... It should be! Amazing food and menu! Very good selection of food and a big variety. Everyone in our group enjoyed what they ordered and their portions were nicely sized. The food comes out with a pretty presentation and the service was great. My only complaints would be that it's a little pricey for Mexican food and the flashing lights in the restaurant are a little hard on the eyes. read more

Second time back at Jalisco Town. The food is a modern spin on Mexican classics with presentation that feels intentional. You can tell they care about the experience without losing the flavors that matter. The chips are crispy and actually taste like something, and the best part is they come with the meal. We skipped a main and turned the appetizers into a little tapas moment, because why not? Full appetizer mode: The mini moneybag chimichangas were packed with chicken, served temperature-hot, fresh from the fryer, and sitting in a bed of queso. They were fun, bold, and made me smile. The chicken empanada trio had a smoky mayoketchup-style sauce and a green chili salsa with a little punch. The chicken flautas were another solid pick and stayed crunchy from start to finish. For drinks, we had the Paloma and the Cantarito. Both were good, but the bar still feels inconsistent. Last visit hit harder, so I know the potential is there. Dessert was golden, sugar-coated churros, ice cream sundae with dulce de leche and chocolate dips, served on a playful carnival-style plate. A great ending. This is our first time and it won't be our last.Beautiful restaurant and great service from start to finish. We ordered the Molcajete and it was packed with flavor and all kinds of varieties of food. It was filled with grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, carnitas, chicharron, chorizo, cactus, topped with spring onions and jalapeño poppers. Served with rice, beans, sour cream salad, and tortillas. Everything tasted delicious and flavorful. It was well worth the price and great place to bring your family for any special occasion. Have been waiting months for this place. To open , was so excited when I saw that it was open. We got there when they opened. Actually, we got in about 20 minutes early. It is a soft opening, so some menu items were not available, but that's okay.Friendly staff sat us down.Our waitress Kelly was excellent and helped us with the menu. All the food came out hot, very tasty. And the margaritas, we're probably some of the best we've had in town. They have some really cool music playing in the background. Anxious to try to new kid on the block, we stopped in on a Thursday night and to our surprise the place was pretty busy with one very large party and a number of regular tables. The hostess was very nice and we were seated right away. Chips and salsa were complimentary and yummy. Cheese Dip was not as thick (almost watery) compared to other places and at $7.50 for a small, a bit pricey. Hubby and I decided to share the Piña Rellena which had great presentation and flavor! It was served with three small flour tortillas which were unfortunately dried out along the edge. When we requested a second set they were also very crunchy on the exposed edge. Maybe these are kept in a warmer and this process needs rethinking, idk. I would love to come back to try other dishes, but will have to try sitting outside next time. I am not sure if I can choose to dine inside again. Between the multiple, large neon lights and the overly strong cleaning chemicals, I had a headache by the time I left. Even when it looks full you will find parking one or two businesses away. 2-Ambiance and decor: A recently remodeled restaurant now has a modern simple fresh look with neon signs. 3-The server was very attentive, always serving with a smile. But the business has to train servers to ask the customer when clicking on the handheld scanner, let the customer choose the tip not the server. She pressed on the charge button when I was reading the options for tipping. And now the verdict: We ordered the Fried Mojarra. Fried Fish. The rice and refried beans had a gentle, delicate, and pleasingly nuanced sweet flavor.....delicious. The leafy vegetables were absolutely fresh. The fish... ah yes the fish is where they need improvement. The portion contained less than expected, almost nothing to eat from. Not like in the picture. It lacked flavor, mild, which lead to an unexciting and dull experience. I was going to order another meal but went for the desert. The fried ice cream was worth it. I will give them another chance with another different plate......and maybe I'll get the chance of choosing the amount when tipping. read more

Found this after the football game as it was open till 11PM. Happy accident as everyone in our party had a fantastic meal. We had carnivores, vegetarians and vegans. Staff was very accommodating. Rice has chicken stock so keep that in mind if vegetarian or vegan. I'm too old to use this phrase, but this place was mid. Nothing we had here was terrible, but nothing was that good either. The server was nice, but felt a little slow. We also had to ask for utensils and napkins when our food came. We tried three different plates of food. It was all fine, but nothing special. The shrimp was under seasoned and mediocre. We also had three different drinks. The margarita I had tasted good, but felt like I was drinking juice with tequila poured into it. This place is trying to be trendy with the fake plant wall and neon sign quotes, but feels like it missed this trend by 3 years. I didn't hate it, but I miss Blue Agave (the previous Mexican restaurant that was in this location last year). We likely won't be going back for another visit when there are better Mexican food options in town. read more

The prices here are already high, and the default tip being set at 25% feels excessive- especially given the level of service. It also creates an uncomfortable situation when staff watch you select the tip option. Our server initially misunderstood my order and said she would remove the incorrect item from the bill, but that never happened. After we received our food, about 25 minutes passed without anyone checking on us. During that time, I watched our waitress attend to multiple other tables, including seating new guests and taking their orders, while we were left waiting. I eventually had to get up myself to ask for to-go boxes. Even after that, when she finally came by and asked how everything was, I requested the check--but another 10 minutes went by with nothing. I ended up going to the front to ask for the bill, only to find the item she said she would remove was still included. When I brought this up, I was questioned about it before it was finally taken off after some back and forth. Then, during payment, the staff member stood there watching as I selected a tip on a system preset to 25%, which felt extremely uncomfortable given the poor service. I had shrimp tacos and didn't realise they were breaded deep fried shrimp but they were tasty. The chips and salsa were okay but not great. The guacamole was fresh, but not particularly exciting. This place is a vibe! Definitely a HUGE jump from blue agave! It is so lively in here and from the people, service and food you can definitely tell they are here to stay and that the people LOVE what they do! It is exactly what they say in the name-MODERN! From the lights to the modernness of the tables, chairs and walls, the instagrammable signs, I'm so happy my husband suggested we go here for dinner. Although, he's been here 4 other times-I see why he enjoys it. We ordered table side guacamole which was delicious! The guy who made the guacamole was very nice, even allowed my husband to try it first to make sure it was to his liking before serving it to us. Chips and salsa was complimentary which is a plus and they give you a lot. The server was very sweet and attentive. She along with the owner/manager kept coming by making sure we were doing okay, food was good and if we needed anything. For our entrees, I got the vegetarian fajitas and my husband got the seafood fajitas and both came out PIPPING HOT, sizzling and everything. It was all so fresh and delicious! I even tried one of my husbands shrimp and wow they were big in size and yummy! My husband had 3 corona Rita's which he definitely enjoyed and I had 0 lol just a Coke Zero because I'm not a fan of margs. Overall this place is so good! We asked for water 6 times before we received water. They are exceptionally under-staffed. The worst part is the food though. I've never had less flavor in a dish in my life, let alone in Mexican food. I ordered the Al Pastor tacos and tasted nothing. It was insane. I thought I was in the Midwest for a moment. We used to come to Blue Agave, so decided to give this new place in the same location a try. Ambiance: We went to dinner on a Friday night. We sat indoors, and the music was too loud for any conversation. We were seated as far from the DJ, and it was still blaring loud. The women's bathroom had no soap and no paper towels. Gross. Otherwise, seemed clean inside. Very generic decor - nothing special. Food: The prices are higher than other Mexican restaurants in town. $20+ for burrito. My kids liked their burritos and they were huge. My enchiladas were bland and underwhelming. My husband had nachos and his were bland. Service: Our server was friendly, but terrible. We ordered large queso ($14) and ran out of chips so asked our server for more chips twice with no results. I finally asked another server who did bring chips. We ran out of water and I asked our server who said "of course". No water. Another server saw that we had no water and came by to help. Asked server for "to go" boxes and small container for sauce for burrito - he forgot the container so had to ask again. Then, had to ask for bill, which should have come with take-home boxes. So frustrating. Finally - they charge a 3% charge for credit or debit card. No note of this until you receive the bill. I usually tip high, minimum of 20% and typically more. I left 10% because the service and experience were so horrible. Would never return. read more

The food here is really bland. The salsa served with the chips had very little flavor or spice. The Burriot "El Mexicano" was okay, as was the Burrito Al Pastor. The Al Pastor was overstuffed with rice - it was more of a rice burrito than Al Pastor. The service was just okay. The interior was clean and there was lots of seating. Last Friday, June 13, my wife and I, and three friends had dinner here. My wife and I shared an order of beef steak fajitas for two, $30.98. It was outstanding. It was served with flare, bubbling, in a cloud of smoke, and crackling hot, on a comal, with a great au jus. The meat was seasoned and cooked to perfection, with green peppers, onions, and tomatoes. The fajita portion was very adequate. We ordered guacamole and sour cream with it, which also should have been included, and it also came with pico de gallo, 6 flour tortillas, rice, and beans. We also ordered fried ice cream for dessert. The dessert was also outstanding. The ice cream was fried to perfection, in a crisp, light batter, and incased in a large piped portion of whipped cream, with a cherry on top. The whole thing was creatively served, in a small, sweet pie crust. I can't drink alcohol for medical reasons, so we had water to drink. The service in this restaurant was also outstanding. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and fast. The food presentations, and restaurant decor were noteworthy for their creativity and beauty. But, in order to be outstanding, a restaurant has to do both the large and the small things very well. They did the fajitas and dessert very well, and the waiter was great; but they failed on the small things. The guacamole was well done, but we only received two small, 1 inch melon ball scoops of it. The beans were good, but cool. The pico de gallo was not noteworthy for it's freshness, and we only received about two level tablespoons of it. The rice was a failure. Mexican rice comes out of the bag, or box, in the kitchen, as a tasteless white pallet, waiting for the chef to decorate it into a beautiful and flavorful dish. This rice was swimming in tasteless achiote oil, and no other seasoning. The best you could say for it was that it was red, and molded into a shape. Mexican rice can be so much more. The tortillas were also a failure. They were 5 1/2 inches in diameter, and 1/8 inch thick, instead of the normal 8 inches in diameter, and 1/4 inch thick. We each received three cold tortillas, glued together in flimsy aluminum foil, indicating that they had been in the foil for quite a while, in a steam chamber, rather than freshly made. We ordered three more, for which we were charged extra; in order to have enough to finish the meal. I know that much of this review seems to be negative, but this restaurant has great potential. It has only been open for about three weeks, and has some important things to shake out. I am confident that this chef and kitchen staff knows better, they just need the management direction and support to do it. With some more work, it could end up being one of the best 2-3 restaurants in Gainesville. My wife and I, and our friends, will be trying it again in a few weeks, and we'll let you know how they have improved. P.S. 6/21/25. This review somehow got the idea that I live in California.
