I seen a lot of positive reviews and decided to try this Mexican restaurant located in the little, out of the way town of Williston, Florida. It is a small place filled with perhaps too many tables, but service was friendly and I was in and out in a relatively speedy amount of time. Let me state if you are concerned with the staff wearing masks, perhaps here is not the place for you. Neither my server nor the cooks were making masks. They are charging more for their menu items, my lunch fajitas order was two dollars ($2.00) more and my server did tell me. They are citing increased prices due to COVID-19, but as far as I know prices have settled and it is time for them to decide if they want to simply up their prices or bring them to what is printed on the menu. Plus, every item has had the priced raised, where most places just raised the price of beef items. The salsa and chips were good. The salsa was chunky and flavorful and the chips had a great crunch to them. Their chicken fajitas were not too good. They were on the edge of burned (but still acceptable) and lacking the spices that make it a wonder. Plus it was a bit dry. The rice and refried beans were good, though. So I cannot see myself returning. The food was barely mediocre and while the service was good, I was taken aback a bit by the upcharge. read more

Not very often you get both really good salsa and good chips, they have both. We all had three different meats they were all absolutely yummy. Service was great, place was clean, we had a great meal after visiting the local springs. read more

Los Avina is located in the small town of Williston, FL and is the only Tex-Mex/Mexican restaurant in town. It is our go to when I am in town visiting my parents who reside in the RV resort in town. The place is clean, simple, and full of the "Mexican" decorations you. have come to expect. The staff is friendly and attentive. The menu consists of your usual Tex-Mex/Mexican selections. This time, I decided on the "Special Burrito" I was feeling steak and the special burrito is stuffed with steak, onions, green peppers, and topped with nachos cheese, lettuce, tomato, and guacamole. If the words nacho cheese brings up images of that nasty, artificial nacho cheese in a can, you are forgiven. This is queso fresco, the white Mexican cheese that melts great and is delicious. I also had a side of rice and beans. My burrito was hot and tasty. The steak wasn't dried out like it had been sitting in a hotel pan all day. The cheese and guacamole was a nice accompaniment to top the burrito off. The meal came with a chips and salsa. The chips were crisp and salsa, while not my favorite style of salsa, was good and had a slight kick. I highly recommend Los Avina! Take the poor reviews with a grain of salt. Restaurants aren't always on top of their game and especially in today's climate, I think we can give some grace on some shortcomings. Remember, Williston is a small, Florida town that is off the beaten path. You have to be coming here or passing through on one of the U.S. highways that pass through town. Thought we'd try this spot as we seen it a few times in passing and also looked at reviews which suggested it was favorable. My opinion is a big NO....floors appeared dirty, restroom in my opinion smelled worse than some Porto-lets. Server was prompt with menus drinks and chips (which in my opinion tasted like they were cooked in old oil) and didn't return after serving our meals. Rice / beans seemed dry(old?)) and over salted and had a peculiar taste. Chicken enchilada filling seemed good, chili relleno was mushy and cheese filling wasn't melted and tasted awful. Venturing out in search of a local business to support (face it, we were hungry), we found this small restaurant in Williston. "Hole-in-the-Wall" is an apt description for this place; I think there were 7 tables that could handle about 25-30 people max. We filled the last table, but had to wait for it to be cleaned. There was only one person waiting on tables, so it was a little slow getting drinks and our order put in. The food was very good; I personally liked the chicken chimichanga better than the beef one, but the food was solid, the salsa just hot enough and the fried ice cream was yummy! 1/2/17 Back for a second visit: service was a little quicker and the food was excellent. This was a good find in the town and very reasonably priced. The chips were fresh and warm and the salsa was delicious. The portions were generous and the two of us split a plate of enchiladas. It was pretty salty but delicious. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and the atmosphere was really nice and cozy! read more

Well let's get this started today I have stumbled upon the Los Avina Mexican Restaurant hidden amongst the oaks in Williston FL while here on other business. I arrived a little early after being referred here by the folks I was doing business with so I had about a twenty minute wait until they opened. Upon entering I was greeted and seated by Diane whose parents apparently are the owners. She took my drink ordered and returned with the chips and salsa I requested some guacamole as well. B fire o go any further I need to make it clear that this is Tex Mex at best. The salsa was great very thick lots of body with a very robust flavor and just the right amount of heat. The guacamole was okay but appeared to have been made much earlier today and seriously needs some salt. The chips were just that chips. I ordered the Quesadilla Loco which promised chunks of beef with chicken and shrimp along with onions and green peppers in a white cream sauce. Spanish rice was also served as a side. There a few grains of rice that were undercooked and it was a little bland but a splash of salsa cured it quickly. The cream sauce is definitely the star here while it pulls everything together it is very obvious that it can very easily stand on its own. I myself would preferred to have a few more onions in the main dish but it would be more than adequate for most people who don't eat this type of food regularly. While I was disappointed that there wasn't any Lengua or Horchata on the menu they more than made up for it in hospitality. Being able to speak with the cook when I first arrived was an added bonus and I was assured that the Quesadilla Loco is one of his favorite dishes to prepare which prompted me to order that dish. This is a smallish place within a building that also offer a Hair Salon so it is a bit confusing as one approaches from the outside. All in all in was a pretty good dining experience my server Diane was most tolerable to my quirks and took it all in the best possible way. What a great little place! Went for lunch on a Saturday and was happy to see that they had lunch specials. I got the mixed fajitas, with a salad plate and I couldn't have been happier. I tried this restaurant a few months ago. I didn't care for my meal at all. I went back recently to give them a second chance, thinking maybe it was just that particular dish that I didn't like. To begin with, the service was horrible. It took forever just to get a menu, and even longer to get a drink. When my food finally came out, it was just like my first experience. The food was horrible. The refried beans and rice tasted like they had been nuked one too many times. I think I would have gotten better Mexican food if I had gone to Taco Bell. My partner really digs this place and so we've eaten here a few times. It's passable as far as edibity goes, but don't expect that this is authentic Mexican food. I would say it's Tex mex type style and that's ok too but could benefit from a few improvements If I was an owner or the cook here I would: SEASON the meat with spices other than salt and pepper. Maybe comino? Chile? Oregano? Try Anything. Second I don't prefer processed cheese on anything except maybe a dip you eat at a Super Bowl party. Smothering anything in cheese, won't make the flavor particularly better. Third and maybe this should be my #1 complaint, how about making a fresh flour tortilla, because these taste like store bought tortillas and it would be amazing to find homemade tortillas in this area of Florida. Also, the hard shell tortillas for tacos could be easily improved; it's so easy to fry corn tortillas. I will certainly complement on the salsa and guacamole. Those were delicious. We were seated and waited on pretty quickly. Chips came out quick as well, but tasted like they are cooked in old grease. (just like the first time we tried this place). Our server started out pretty good, then really went down hill. Once we were finished eating, we waited patiently for about 10 minutes to ask for our check and a box (as she walked by 3-4 times). Finally, my granddaughter went to ask for a box. Our server was looking at her phone and ignored her. Finally got a box. Went to the counter to pay without ever receiving a check. Our server and another girl behind the counter were looking at a book/maybe a menu and talking. Never acknowledged me standing there, even though she looked up. Finally, just told me what I owed. Never handed me the check. I NEVER leave without tipping because I know how hard servers have to work, but this girl was ridiculous. For the first time ever, I left without tipping. Sadly, I had a new waitress today and discovered I was overcharged for a late lunch at the Los Avina's Williston location. The menus haven't listed the correct price of a dish since the beginning of Covid 19. I've overlooked the lack of correct menu pricing, the aging painted Christmas window decorations from holidays long past and the often lack of soap in the restroom in an effort to support a local business. it was terrible. the service was terrible it took over an hour for our food to come out and when it did they forgot to make almost half of our order. a kid's cheeseburger took AN HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES TO COME OUT. the beans had no salt or flavor and looked like it was dog food. do not waste your money here not worth it at all. nothing came out good all the food was terrible. never going again such a terrible experience. food was nasty. read more

Don't let this tucked away little spot fool you. This restaurant is a gem. I ordered the Speedy B. For $5.50 they serve a hard shell taco, an enchilada, and refried beans. It's a healthy portion and the flavors are bursting. The enchilada sauce is the bomb. We will definitely stop here again as we pass through in the future. read more

The BEST salsa! . Fajitas were delicious and everything is very reasonably priced! The service is definitely slow (they bring your food out as it's ready so our fajita meat sat on our table for about 10 minutes before the toppings and shells came out) but by the time we ate it, it was good enough that we didn't care. Traveling through Williston on our way home to Ft. Lauderdale from Destin. There were not many options open for such a late lunch. We had our choice of Japanese or Mexican. I have no doubt we made the right choice. My boyfriend had the shrimp quesidillas and I had an ala carte burrito. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was well prepared and served quickly. The waitress was very polite and attentative. It was a nice quick lunch without having to eat fast food. The menu had a nice variety with plenty of options. The prices were more than fair. We had 2 sodas, some cheese dip, a burrito, and shrimp quesidillas for under $20. We will be stopping here again on our next trip. read more

I hate to ding a local establishment, but this place was terrible! The chips and salsa were okay, everything else was poor. I had a burrito which was advertised on the menu as being made with "tender steak". It was nothing of the sort. I took several bites chewed the meat and ended up pulling it out of my mouth and putting on my plate because it was gristle. It was gross. I gave up eating it after a few bites. My husband had the taco salad with burger, which he said was also poor quality meat.
