The people were funny and kind, the from-scratch drinks were absolutely delicious, and the food was solid.
Weird story though: We'd been having some rough travel days, and so we were delighted to find this charming and lively little spot down the hill from where we were staying. No sooner had we ordered food and had our first sips of our drinks when a swarm of moth-esque flies swarmed in. I mean it was a freak situation, like a plague. Given our luck, I'm pretty sure we summoned them somehow. It went from a few bugs to as many as 1,000 in minutes. Judging by the surprised reaction of the employees, it was definitely not par for the course.
After 20 minutes of swatting and brushing, it mercifully began to rain, which halted the swarm, but the owner and his crew had managed to continue to be gracious hosts in the midst of trying to deal with the chaos of making sure the food was safe and the guests were doing alright.
In the end, we got our food and a round of drinks to go, and there was nary a sign that such a wild thing had just happened. The fish tacos and the chicken nachos were both really good. We even got a ride in a kitted-out club car from one of the crew back up to where we were staying. read more
