I was visiting the Quad cities and my friends love this restaurant, so we went for lunch. The staff is helpful and informative. The menu has quite a few tasty choices but I didn't see enchiladas Rojas (with beef), so I settled on the flautas platter. My friends got an assortment of tacos and a burrito. We all enjoyed it everything is pretty tasty, but its made with dark meat (tough teat if you're a white meat only chap). Now, the star of the show was actually the horchata, it was absolutely delicious! I ended up taking one to go and adding a few shots of espresso and made a horchata latte rivaling the one I drank in Cali. Only issue was the credit card machine was down, so we had to dip into our cash stash. Hopefully it will be fixed by the time my friends go back. read more

This place is the best authentic Mexican food in the Quad Cities. It's a hidden gem. The seating is limited. The service is always excellent. Mexican music is always playing overhead, and the walls are decorated with large, framed cultural images, including photos of actual ancestral family members of the owners. Ever since I watched Chef stories on Netflix, I've been trying out barbacoa at every Mexican restaurant but nothing lived up to my bloated imagination, but this place omg!! There's burritos, and other stuff too people but barbocoa is the deal, let me tell you. It's this awesome lamb/beef dish that's cooked for eight hours with all its fatty goodness and rich taste. Also, the corn tortillas tasted exquisite and I've never tasted more delish tortillas before, try it you will know what I mean. Chips were so fresh and the sauces were perfect! I also tried their Puerco en salsa Roja which is pork tips curry with rice,beans and tortillas. So yum!! Right amount of spice. Horchata was a wholesome good drink, loved it. Me and my sister went there a few weekends back, they had just came back from vacation. The food was good me and my sister enjoyed it, how ever the owner came out and was talking up a storm with customers making sure they were happy and was even helping a few older ladies pick out they really wanted on the menu. The customers he was greeting were all American and at first I was like he will get around to me and my sister but that time never came, we were really disappointed because we are Mexican and he couldn't even greet us. I'm new to the area but my sister isn't and she really liked that place before that day, there is plenty of other places that will appreciate my business, so needless to say I will not be going back. Los Charros caught my eye because it has so many positive reviews on Yelp but it didn't blow me away. The service was good and the interior looks great. The food, unfortunately, was pretty disappointing. I was SO CLOSE to ordering the chorizo and potato enchiladas, and I definitely should have. I couldn't resist the pull of these spicy tacos they had on the menu. Forgive me for forgetting what they're called, but they were described as having spicy shells, being filled with spicy cheese, then topped with fresh cheese. They were also one of the most expensive items on the menu. I was served what looked like those mini tacos you get in the freezer section of the grocery store. There was very little cheese inside and they were NOT spicy at all, just really oily. We got some other food, too. The beans that came with my mini tacos were bland, but the guacamole was good. My boyfriend said his tamales were just okay. We enjoyed sampling the three salsa options that came at the beginning of the meal. The highlight of our meal was the white queso with chorizo that we ordered as an appetizer. It was very good. I left Los Charros feeling pretty sad that we skipped a meal at our favorite Mexican restaurant to go there instead. I might go back sometime to try something a little more basic, but it's unlikely. read more

Top notch food, service, and food. Yes. I said food twice, it's that good. The Bistecca Mexicana (please let that be right) was seasoned steak sautéed with jaleps, toms, and onion. Sides (rice and beans) were better, fresher than most. Piled it all on corn tortillas and... omg. So. Good. Wife had cheese filled fried dough (name escapes me) topped with shredded cheese and onions, same sides plus guac. Savory and decadent. Queso w Chorizo was a great starter. Their soups... do yourself a favor, get some soup. Rich, flavorful. Words don't do them justice., just go and eat them. The service was some of the best we've ever had. Young lady knew the menu, offered suggestions and even brought out a couple of experimental salsas for us to test. One cleared my sinuses the other was a savory bright avocado take on salsa. FANTASTIC food! FANTASTIC service. I found out about this little gem, just off of Avenue of the Cities, from a Mexican friend, who told me it was the best in the Quad Cities. I bookmarked it on Yelp, just so I wouldn't forget. Finally found myself across the street from this place at a swim meet--which lucky for us finished up right at lunch time. Our family enjoyed every meal that was ordered--even our picky daughter cleaned her plate. We will definitely be back. Horrible experience. My wife ordered the Chili rellenos. I thought It strange that it came out very fast. My wife cut into it and just poured with grease. The waitress did admit that the Chili Rellenos were microwaved from being cooked previously. What made this even worse is that the business would not take the charge off our bill. Stating that they do not throw away food. My wife still ordered Guacamole (which was good) but made quite a scene about we dont know how to cook Chile Rellenos and that he would call the police if we did not pay. I typically do not post reviews unless someone was over the top remember-able. This has got to be one of the worst experiences at a restaurant i have ever had. What Los Charros lacks in atmosphere, it makes up in authenticity and flavor. Their in house salsas are amazing, as well as their hot sauces. Their menu is very large, lots of options. 6-7 pages if I remember right. So there is a good chance you'll find what you're looking for. Serving sizes are pretty big. Prices reflect it though. I had a steak and chorizo burrito which was very delicious. The wife got chorizo and potato enchiladas which she also enjoyed very much. The décor is a little odd and the dining room itself Is oddly laid out, but it used to be a whitey's ice cream so I get it. Their horchata looked amazing.. was kicking myself the whole time for not ordering it. Love the authenticity here! Pressently no liquor or alcohol served, but with Agua frescas and various soft drinks like Jarritos...Not missing anything. I had the Pescado Rebosada, a tilapia filet, and it was tasty. The filet could have been crispier, and I requested the Adobo sauce on the side, and no lettuce garnish, but even as such, this is a filling meal with value for $13.79, before tax. After noting I was a first time guest, the server/cashier offered me a cup of Fideos also. I enjoyed it. The salsas are authentically delicious, and the avocado is spicier than even the Adobo sauce on the fish. I actually would prefer the Adobo as a salsa also. Pecan Tres Leches was my dessert selection and it is the very best tres leches I have ever had. Moist, full of pecans, my favorite, and full of the three milk's velvet sauce.
