This location of Los Chingones surprisingly exceeded my expectations today. During the USA vs Australia World Cup game on a Friday (1pm), the place was surprisingly empty. I hence was able to place my to-go order quickly and got my food quickly as well. I got me the Baja Fish taco and Fried Avocado taco along with a side seasonal vegetables to fill my stomach for later. As I said already, service was quick and easy with no delay (as the restaurant wasn't busy at all). Staff were friendly with a very welcoming attitude. I quickly transacted my purchase using one of the credit card (hand held) machines. Later when I was finally ready to eat, I anxiously opened the container. The two tacos and the side seasonal veggies looked small at a glance. And yet I simply didn't want to judge them by their appearance. I hence started devouring the food before I headed myself to the next obligation. And oh wow, they were quite tasty! Both tacos had a nice amount of kick to them and yet they weren't too hot for my liking. Well seasoned with all sorts of good flavors and spices were everywhere each time I took a bite of them. The seasonal veggies also had plenty of "characters in them where nothing tasted bland. Whether my not having high expectations towards the food was the reason, when I had finished eating, I was filled with quite the satisfaction. P.S. I live very close to the DTC location of this restaurant. And to compare the two locations for their ambiance sake, I vote for the Larimer location. The Larimer location is much more upscale than the DTC location in my opinion and it's a great layout. read more

Full transparency, this review is being written by an eater that lives in Los Angeles. All that really means is to say I'm jaded in my review of tacos. This was the first stop on a food tour that my friends and I booked as a way to eat and see art. Los Chingones did not disappoint in atmosphere or ambiance. It was lively even at an odd time of the day in between lunch and dinner hours. They served Adobo Chicken Tacos for our tasting here. The others on our tour got the drink package and said the margaritas were FABULOUS. The adobo chicken had plenty of flavor, and the takis added great limon and a little fire. The magic was in the slaw. We ALL appreciated the slaw. When in RiNo, definitely stop in for a decent taco and a GREAT time. read more

Just had my first visit to Los Chingones and had a great time! The atmosphere is relaxed yet upbeat with a little bit of cheek. The staff is really friendly but not overbearing. The menu has a great selection of flavorful options and the food is great! We ordered the elote queso and I definitely recommend this. It was delicious and just the perfect size for my friend and I. We both ordered tacos and enjoyed our meals. I had the bang bang shrimp taco and a birria taco and both were excellent. The portions were perfect for us both. I also appreciate their selection of tequila, cocktails and mocktails. Especially enjoy that they can pretty much make any of their regular cocktails sans alcohol for those who want a fun beverage without the booze. Although the street parking in this area is a little hit or miss since it gets so busy, the neighborhood is very walkable so I don't mind if I need to have a bit of a stroll in order to get here. We will definitely be back for more and remember to take photos of the food! The hostess needs to be repositioned to a backstage role. Not everyone should be the first human being a customer encounters. This was a useful demonstration of why. My wife was already seated upstairs. I walked in and headed up to join her. Apparently, this was my great transgression. The hostess quickly introduced herself through sarcasm, belligerence, and an impressive lack of interest in basic hospitality. Perhaps she was having a bad day. We all have them. The difference is most of us aren't stationed at the front door when we do. Here's the fascinating part. My wife said her waitress was outstanding. The service upstairs was outstanding. Her drink was outstanding. She was having a great experience. And one person standing ten feet from the front door managed to erase all of it. That is quite an achievement. I have no issue with a policy asking guests to wait for the hostess. A simple, "Sir, would you mind waiting one moment and I'll help you?" would have solved the entire problem in about seven seconds. Instead, I got sarcasm and disrespect from someone who appeared thoroughly burned out on the concept of customers. Businesses spend enormous amounts of money on atmosphere, cocktails, food, training, branding, and customer acquisition. Then they sometimes put the wrong person at the front door. Your hostess isn't managing a doorway. She's managing the customer's first impression. Based on my wife's experience upstairs, there are clearly some excellent people working here. Unfortunately, we never got the opportunity to enjoy them together. Great drink. Great waitress. Great service upstairs. Then came the hostess. Sometimes the most expensive person in a business isn't the highest paid. It's the one standing at the front door costing you customers. Backstage might be a better fit. read more

Went to dinner with some friends and recommended this spot since I had a good experience before. We were going to order 3 house margaritas ($11 each) but the waiter suggested we get a pitcher ($44) as it would be cheaper and give us 5 margaritas. The pitcher came and we only got enough for 3 margaritas. We inquired about this and the manager told us they measure how much is in the pitcher and we just didn't use enough ice to make 5 margs. Mind you, my glass was filled to the top with ice. The manager said he would allow us to pay for just 3 margaritas due to the "misunderstanding". Queso and salsa were both ok but strange - not traditional flavors with sweetness where it did not belong. Tacos were nice - the fried fish was great, duck confit was good and different is good so it all does not just run together. Service was also lacking - but that is always variable with the individual serving - it wasnt really packed but it was like pulling teeth to get refills and such. Overall, I'll give it another chance to try different things but in a world where we all judge a place by their chips and salsa, this one fell short. This place is in a super vibrant area. Rhino has so many fun, new food options and bars, but this is still one of my favorites.. While there isn't a dedicated parking lot, during the afternoons for lunch plenty of street parking is open and even my most anxious parking friends can easily find a space. The atmosphere is fun, they were playing a playlist of some of my favorite DJs when we walked in. I know during the course of our visit I heard some Sophie Tucker and Disco lines, possibly Dillon Francis too. The staff was super helpful - we had two different servers helping us out. Both were warm and friendly and accommodating. We split five of the tacos because I couldn't decide and wanted to taste them all. I absolutely love the duck and pastor tacos, but to be fair I could've eaten a plate of anyone of the choices. The chef really knows what he's doing with those flavors. My favorite item on the menu is the queso Blanco with the Elote topping. Glad that this doesn't come in any larger of a size as I would probably have to buy new pants. Every time I see a menu, I immediately order it. Luckily, I had some help finishing it off today. I was also working on my laptop, they do have strong Wi-Fi here. However, I've never stopped by a table where there is an outlet - so make sure you come fully charged. read more

The only downside was that the music was absolutely deafening -- one of our party was hearing impaired but we were told that the music volume was unable to be changed (despite only 1-2 other small parties in the restaurant). Meal was a bit pricy but it was a large amount of food. I felt safe eating there and had no concerns arise later. We came to Denver for a wrestling tournament and we were craving Mexican food. I checked on Yelp and saw all these reviews so I couldn't wait to try it. Originally, they said it would be a 45 minute wait. They were able to seat us within 15-20 minutes. Plus number 1! Steve was our server and he took our order right away. We had multiple taco orders shrimp, barria, carne asada. Then an order of enchiladas. Everything came out so hot and fresh. Steve brought us extra limes also. The tacos are amazing!!!! Of course the kids wanted the churros with Mexican chocolate. I've never had a better churro in my life! Even Disneyland can't beat the taste of these churros. I came here with a girl friend on a Friday night around 7:30pm. We were able to get a seat right away on the roof top. *Stairs only It took a while for a waiter to come up to us but that was okay because we were catching up. Started with some drinks and they were delicious, bare in mind the spicy marg.. is spicy. lol My quesadilla was delicious. It had a little kick and was very filling. The tacos were also yummy with the shrimp taco being the favorite. I did take off one star because of the stairs only, and bathroom. Only one stall was available and there was a big line. This is a great date night spot or group hang out. The did have table that were big enough for six people. Overall 4/5 stars! read more

My friends and I were excited that happy hour started at 3p so we grabbed a table in the main floor dining room. We ordered a round of drinks and appetizers and settled in. After our drinks and apps arrived we were informed that the main floor dining room was closing and they would have to close out out ticket. Ummmmm... What? We just started happy hour! We paid our tab and had to carry all of our drinks and plates and food - ourselves - up the flight of stairs to the rooftop and find a place to sit. Mind you - it's 98 degrees outside in July. All the staff seemed confused as to who was going to be taking care of us while we were sweating in our seats because despite the makeshift shade structure it was blazing hot with a hot breeze. I'm incredibly confused as to why a restaurant with air conditioning would choose to close the main floor seating area and make customers haul all the food and drinks they ordered up to the roof. I'm not against a good rooftop drink but that certainly wasn't the vibe we were going for that day. The main floor was closed for the rest of the time we were there. And the place was busy and certainly could have accommodated having both the dining room and roof open at the same time. So.... The main floor dining area is only open for what - breakfast? Do they make a habit of letting people order a bunch of stuff and then inform them that the dining room is closing? Just a warning that if you want to enjoy air conditioning and happy hour at the same time - go somewhere else. read more

Birria tacos were the best in my opinion. Highly recommend the guac as well. We went here before a baseball game since it's not to far from the stadium. Great pit stop before heading over! Cruising thru the city of Denver we decided to take a break and try a local spot for some appetizers. Los Chingones was highly recommended on Yelp so we stopped by. Los Chingones also has a rooftop bar and restaurant for those looking for a drink while enjoying the scenery of downtown Denver. Unfortunately the unexpected rain prevented us from sitting upstairs but inside had great decor and packed with patrons who arrived from watching the Rockies play. Los Chingones has a simple menu of traditional Mexican dishes as well as drink menu. We didn't have time for drinks in the visit but did order the fried Brussel Sprouts and queso dip. Both appetizers were delicious and reasonably priced. Overall great experience and recommend anyone in the area stop by and enjoy a great time. read more

I love this place. I work downtown and come here at least once a week on my lunch break. The happy hour tacos are massive and flavorful. It feels like they actually thought about the ingredients, they are loaded and sloppy but well constructed and don't fall apart. Service is quick and efficient so I never have to worry about being late getting back to work. I tell people all the time how underrated this place is, I've yet to have better tacos in downtown Denver. The rooftop is a prime spot in summer but the bar in winter is cozy and they always have ninja warrior on! read more

Food is average for Mexican. The 3 taco platter is a good value meal but the beans came in a small plastic dish, of which I was not a fan. Duck confit was not as sweet as I've had and lacked complexity. Would have preferred a good lengua taco but that was not a menu option. Relatively busy on a weekday night with a lot of tables, and nice enough to sit outside on their patio. A vendor took me here for lunch today and I really enjoyed it! There was lots of seating and a cute atmosphere. The prices on the menu seemed very cheap compared to other places in the area! I ordered the Tijuana salad with added adobo chicken and it was delicious! Nice and light but filling at the same time! I do wish it had another topping or two such as corn or beans just for a little more body, but it was still good! This wasn't the case. Food was seriously delicious. Only con was that service was a little on the slow side. We were around the side, and u think the server might have forgotten about us.
