First time to this restaurant (visiting form out of town). We were seated promptly and the hostess was friendly. We ordered the beef taco plate and a chicken chalupa. Service was great and the server was awesome. The taco shells were stale so I asked to buy a flour tortilla to move the meat from the stale taco shells. The tortilla look great when arrived only to notice they only cooked one side. They didn't flip it. The chicken chalupa was good just the shell was soggy from the hot beans as well. The worst experience we have had on our visits, I understand that the waiters are tired but we drove from Dallas and decided to have dinner at this place before arriving home and we even invited our parents, to begin with they did not bring my mother-in-law's drink, My father-in-law ordered fajitas and they gave him another dish with shrimp wrapped in meat, the waiter never came back to ask how the food was, I ordered guacamole from someone else, I said can I have a scoop of guacamole he said a SIDE of guacamole and he laugh about it, I was like I just need some guacamole for my tacos, they didn't give us a refill , they threw us the plates like they were super hot, was just steak tacos no reason to be rude with our plates, I wanted dessert but I decided it wasn't the best time. The food was ok. My wife's order was wrong! We had to waiting 30 more mins for her food! So then my food got cold at the table waiting on there mistake! Do yourself a favor and avoid coming here. The service and attentiveness are non-existent and food is less than subpar. My family and I came here after walking around Katy Mills mall and were hungry for something other than what the food court had to offer. Upon entering, it seemed popular as it was pretty crowded, so we had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. We should've known something was wrong whenever the hostess proceeded to seat us and couldn't find us a table that she "originally thought was available". After being seated, it was as if we were pulling teeth to receive the items expected at a Mexican restaurant (or any restaurant in general) from our waiter, Luis; chips, salsa, napkins, silverware, etc! Upon request, each item arrived separately, which was mind boggling to us. On multiple occasions, three to be exact, I had to ask for hot sauce for my food. We ordered fajitas for us to split and my kiddo ordered chicken tenders. The fajitas lacked flavor and yet again, we had to request the tortillas being brought to our table. My kiddo couldn't even eat her chicken tenders as they had no flavor whatsoever. There was some floral decor that was next to our table that was FULL of dust. We didn't notice it until the dust began falling on our table (and our food) when the air conditioning kicked on. We tried pulling the floral arrangement down, but it was either glued or nailed down to the ledge. It must say something about their service when the guests behind us were also complaining about our waiter, Luis, as they were being served by him as well. The manager (I'm assuming she was since she didn't have a name tag) went to both of our tables asking how everything was; both parties said, "Horrible." We ended up not having to pay for the fajitas, but honestly, not a thing that we selected was worth a pennie. I went to the restroom and I'm glad I checked for toilet paper before I sat down as there wasn't any. I proceeded to another stall and found a small amount of toilet paper available. Upon washing my hands, no soap was available either. It made me think of all the employees going in and out of the restroom not being able to properly wash their hands and they were serving food......nice, huh? read more

The absolutely worst service in a restaurant I have ever had in my entire life. Beware! We went there to watch the basketball game and to eat. They seated a bunch of people before us. And when we finally said something, they lead us to the booth, and as we were being lead to the booth, I asked if they can put the basketball game on (they were playing softball and baseball games by the bar section, where we were being lead) the hostess replies, that 'there's games everywhere' very rudely. We were not handed a menu, and we were just waiting there like idiots for a long time. When we asked to speak to the manager, because no one was serving us, and we were being ignored. Wasn't really impressed. My boyfriend and I wanted to try this place since we're new to the area. We sat down pretty quick, server was nice did seem to be in a rush though. We ordered the chili con queso with ground beef and a shrimp ceviche (the ceviche was pretty good) when the chili con queso arrived it had no beef (things happen, we told our waiter and he brought it back with the ground beef). I had the chalupas which were okay, my boyfriend built his own enchiladas he asked for one shrimp with chili con queso and another chicken with gravy. They were both chicken. They did end up remaking the shrimp one they didn't bring out, but by this point we were a bit turned off and just took the food to go. I've only had the takeout option for a work function but was very impressed. The meat was well seasoned and cooked. The salsas were flavorful and perfect spicyness. First of all, being able to accommodate a table of 8 on Mother's Day afternoon with only a 15 minute wait gets you 3 stars, maybe 4 from the start! I have to say that the service and food gives this place a solid 4 in my book. After leaving church, my family decided to dine out. Of course, you know this will involve a wait. At first, we had decided to go to Red Lobster around the corner, but they claimed that the wait for 8 would be an hour. Maybe I was with adults, a little mall browsing would make this okay, but with four kids in our party, that was not desirable, so my brother and his wife made a quick hop to Loc Cucos to see what the wait would be there. They had went to the Old Katy location and liked the food and selection there and felt it would accommodate everyone's taste buds. Soon as we hopped back in the car, drove over there, and got the kids out the car, our table was ready. Spectacular!!! I was hungry! Soon as you walk in, the smell of fajitas only makes you hungrier, so baskets of warm tortillas chips are a necessity as you comb through the vast menu. I think we had the waiter bring us 9 baskets of tortilla chips and several cups of salsa and guac without complaint. Mind you, this was Mother's Day, so they had plenty of other tables to wait on. However, our waiter and bus boy still tried to get us the right drink orders and get our refills to us in a timely fashion despite the crowd. #Bravo Before we decided on our entrees, I actually took into account some of my fellow yelper's reviews. I really wanted some sort of seafood but figured that some sort of authentic Mexican dish would be more palatable. Therefore, I was torn between the Plato Bom Bom which is served with bacon wrapped shrimp, a taco, and enchilada or the Del Rio which is seafood enchilada. Upon the suggestion of our waiter, I went with the Plato Bom Bom and asked to have the tomatillo enchilada changed (which was done without charge). The fam ordered some a mixed fajita plate, some seafood chimichangas, a couple of kids burgers with fries and kids chicken tender basket. For the price, the kids definitely got their money's worth. The burgers were huge with a nice size patty with tomato, lettuce and pickle. Only thing: they only provided ketchup. We had to request mustard and mayonnaise. When it finally came, it was in a bowl, which is actually wasteful. It would be better to have containers for the customer to squeeze as much as they want. Chicken tenders seemed tender enough for a 4 year old to devour on her own, so I guess that's enough to know. Chimichangas looked interesting, but plate looked pretty dull until my sister in law asked for chile con queso. Once she poured it over the chimi, the plate had more color and really made the chimi stand out. Supposedly it was okay, but not as good as the one at the Katy location. Even though my Bom Bom shrimp was divine, they're wasn't enough of it. Three aren't enough. The beef taco--tasty and the enchilada--very cheesy, but if you're meat eater, the fajitas are probably a better option. My mom let me taste a piece of her beef from her plate and it was VERY delicious--tender, seasoned to perfection, and lean. I would go back to get the fajitas on the next visit. Although the service was adequate and the food satisfying, the bathroom did need a little more attendance (i.e. toilet tissue on the floor, no paper towels) and the waiter had a lot of stains on his shirt. When I saw his shirt, I was expecting an unappetizing meal--honestly. Appearances are important. Luckily the food did not match his uniformed appearance. Will return and try out just the fajitas and definitely the chips with the queso! BTW: The lime pepperminst are delish. Don't forget to get a handful after dining! read more

The food and service was excellent. Their tortillas are hot and fresh and the grilled meats were seasoned very well. The kids had beef tacos and enchiladas and were surprised that they were made with larger pieces of marinated meat instead of ground beef. To start off, we have been to different Los Cucos restaurants around the area and this is far the worse experience. Our server Hector G, was horrible. He took our order wrong, and brought the wrong food out. I told him which one I ordered and he proceeded to argue with me in front of my family that I was the one that ordered wrong. He pulls out his notebook and continues to argue stating "that's what I ordered". I continued to correct him, that I ordered a specific dish. He was in a rush. He proceeded to take the dish back and got about 5 ft and continued to argue stating that I ordered it and that he was right because he " wrote it down". He stated that the kitchen was going to get onto him because he was taking a wrong order back. Which makes me believe that this isn't the first time he did this. Then the audacity to charge $15 dollar tip for just my bill. ( there were 4 other separate bills at this table). With the amount of disrespect, and incivility from Hector G, he should be retrained. People make mistakes, and I understand that, but to argue, and disrespect customers like this is uncalled for. read more

We've been coming to this Katy Mills Los Cucos for years and this place never disappoints. We went for Father's Day and the food was awesome, I think the best we've ever had. Hot and fresh chips and the green sauce is the best in town. The family appetizer platter and fajitas were delicious. They've also recently upgraded their menu and dinnerware. And the service is always great. So many of the staff have worked their for years which is an indication to me that they're doing this right. This is one of my family's favorite places for Tex-Mex. Service is quick, prices are average, food is great! We just went today and I had the chicken enchilada & chicken/beef fajita special, daughter had the chimichanga, wife had the salad with chicken. All dishes were cooked just right and we walked out with three boxes of leftovers. We also had some chips & queso as an appetizer, and the cheese does not taste like the "food service cheese" I have seen noted on other Cucos reviews. One of the favorites of Los Cucos is the stuffed/fried avocado. I have had this before and highly recommend it. I also recommend the Enchiladas Del Rio if you like seafood. The serving sizes are usually huge, no matter what you order. The restaurant near Katy Mills can seat a large number of customers, but one of the things I like is that there are so many servers working at this location, you really do not have to wait very long to place your order or wait for the food to arrive. They also have a bar and a private room for parties. I do recall the location having a good Sunday breakfast, and will have to try that again sometime. read more

This place is the standard by which other places can be measured in terms of many things like food quality, service, atmosphere, prices. You tend to know a place you've gone to your entire life, and that says a lot about the business when it's been around that long and stayed that consistent. I know a lot of people may disagree based on all the negative reviews around the city, but if you look at their history, their success, those things can speak for themselves if you've never been and are considering any Los cucos. I'm sure diff locations vary in management and maybe taste, but you can certainly rely on the ole test of local crowds who absolutely pour in here all the freakin time. Anyone who's seen my reviews know I'm a complete tortilla snob, and this my friends is the mold from which I was cast, these are the right kind of tortillas (flour). Heavy, slightly crispier, maybe even what one could call greasy(not really) but made with lard, the outside has that grainy, rub off texture. Very very specific but these are REAL tortillas and you won't find these commonly; they are the taco aficionado from San Antonio premium choice, grade A, 6 of 5 stars! That's the number one reason to come here, but surely not the only one. Better than most, in fact maybe the best quality beef fajitas, just pull apart tender and packed with flavor. You get a lot of choices with the fajitas for two but one of my favorites is the Saltillo topping of mild poblano peppers, Monterrey jack cheese, bacon(really it's more like bacon jerky, are you kiddin me wow, wait til u see the hunks/slabs of it!), sweet onions, out on a hot skillet, talk about heaven. And let me tell you it is always so so fresh, that's obvious. And a whole extra plate per person of fresh chopped lettuce, guacamole, pico and beans, usually sour cream too depending on where you go, you might have to ask for it. Love the all-in atmosphere, it looks like mexico and sounds like it with mariachi playing around, and always excellent service, they are friendly, punctual and well dressed(i like a bit of old school dress up). Oh and if you want a menu with prices go to their website and view the printable version of their menu for your location, not the html or flash version. But price wise they give you some of the tastiest chips and guac(green-sauce) free and the quality for the price is excellent for all the food we've tried. They clearly have a bright future here and are here to stay, luckily! read more

This is the WORST service I have ever had. I hate to write a bad review but this is an honest review and I don't want anyone else to go through this. We had two adults and one toddler in our table and of course a lunch out with the family was ruined by the bad service. We were sat by the bar area and our server took our drink and food order in a rush so I said "let me look at the drink menu". He didn't come back to check on us so I didn't get a chance to order anything other than water to drink. A kids meal doesn't usually take longer than 10-15 minutes to bring to the table. Fast forward 30 minutes and neither the kids meal or entrees have been delivered. Our waiter did not check on us either. During this time, two other tables were sat and had their food delivered by the same waiter. It was a Saturday after lunch rush so there weren't too many other tables or cars in the parking lot. 45 minutes go by and we are waiting like the nice people we are because I've worked the restaurant industry and I know things happen. Finally, the waiter stops by and says the kitchen is backed up and the food should be out. (Ummm, other people have gotten their food but we haven't. The kitchen is not behind) It took ONE HOUR to get our food on this beautiful Saturday. That is one hour that the manager let pass by and didn't care to stop by our table. He just looked from a distance. That is one hour that my child watched as others ate and her food wasn't brought to the table. That is one hour that I felt uncomfortable because I wondered if it was on purpose that we didn't have our food. Lunch for my family was ruined by the bad service but could have easily been reset if someone had just brought my 3 year old her quesadillas or said "I'm sorry". During this time we ran out chips and salsa and no one asked to refill when they passed by. We will never come back. We packed up or food in a to-go box and took it home. I hate leaving a bad review on Los Cucos as we normally love their food and service. This location normally has a great ambiance all around. However, this time was different and we went here to celebrate my sons birthday as this is where he chose to eat for his birthday dinner. Everything started out wonderful until my mother had to send back her meal because it had ingredients in it that were asked to be left off due to deathly allergies. My mother was very polite when asking to send it back due to allergies that could kill her. This didn't help at all and When this happened our waiter Diego went from being friendly to being short and not understanding us at all. The waiter never took my mothers meal back to exchange it after we told him it could kill her. We Asked for a manager and one never ever came by our table to exchange her meal. Totally unacceptable. Thank god my meal didn't have anything in it that would hurt my mom so I switched meals but that's beyond the point we shouldn't have had to switch meals at all. The waiter didn't show any compassion what so ever and he got rude and short with us after the incident. The waiter also said some snide comments in Spanish about my mom being too picky and should not eat in public if she has so many problems. This is not the case when your highly allergic and could die from eating the ingredients that were asked not to be on the meal and someone should not have to eat at home all the time because of this. The waiter not knowing that we were fluent in Spanish was in for a real shock when we spoke up in Spanish! Sad that my sons birthday dinner had to go like this. All we wanted was the meal fixed. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. We didn't even get so much as a sorry. Please watch when you go to this establishment especially if you have any food allergies. I take customers here for lunch every month or so. It's nice because they seem to be purpose built for business lunch rushes and the place always seems ready. The chips and salsa are great and they always bring extra salsa so six guys don't have to share one bowl. The sweet tea is good and the drinks never empty. Though they don't have horchata... I've eaten quite a few meals here and always leave full and satisfied. It does get loud as it fills up but it's never too annoying. The service is nice and quick and the ladies are usually smiling. The decor is nice and feels like a typical tex-mex place, with fake terracota, and a fireplace. Nice big bar, which I'm sure gets busy at night. I've only ever some here with 4-6 person sized groups and have always had good service and it's not too spendy either. There's not a ton of places in the area that offer this type of dining experience and when you want a sit down, chill service experience I think this fits the bill. read more

Well...Google reviews strike again, suckering me into thinking a TexMex establishment on the west side is gonna be different than all the others. That this white bot from the southeast side of H-Town gonna find him some TexMex on par with all those fine establishments in Pasadena, TX. I should've come to Yelp first. Yelp gives it to me raw and real...and I see here that Los Cucos is middle of the road which is exactly how I feel about the mixed fajitas for one that I just ate. To call it forgettable is about as accurate as I can summarize. First let me start with the positives. The chicken fajitas were actually not going bad at all. I'd even go as far as to say they were good, but not great. Portions were great for the price. The grilled vegetables were actually done very well so kudos there. And everything did appear to be fresh, especially the pico. Now, let's sit down Los Cucos. Just what in the hell were those dripping grease, fatty, not even sure what the hell kind of meat it was things that were beef fajitas? Trying to think of the best way to describe them. They were like greasy brown slinky toys that you could pull apart and they would snap back together. Their color almost looked artificial. I'm not sure what in the hell those things were, but they were chewy grease strips with something resembling beef flavor. Yuck! And it wasn't like how sometimes you get me or two fatty fajitas. Wasn't that at all. They all looked, tasted, and felt the same. They were straight gross. Rice and retried beans were ok. Standard affair. Little bland honestly. Rice was a little wet too but not to the point it was soggy. I feel like if I'd have just gotten the chicken fajitas...this would have been a much different story. I'd like to point out as well the photo on DoorDash for the beef fajitas? Yeah not even close. I know I keep harping on those beef fajitas but I'm not even lying when I tell you they were all ONE COLOR. No grill marks. Almost like they boiled these things or something. If you're wishing UberEats/DoorDash distance of Pablo's Mexican Kitchen? Do yourself a favor, pay the little bit of extra money and go here.
