So we had wrapped up a morning boat ride at Xochimilco and on the way back we decided to stop by around Coyoacan to walk around and check out the Coyote fountains, etc. We found a joint a few weeks back and booked lunch at Los Danzantes. We are so glad that we were able to check this joint out. Its a bit unassuming from the outside and they offer some patio seating (with a cover) and then it opens up into a very modern/clean restaurant interior with the bar being the focal point. They also have a 2nd floor which i imagine is opened up during peak/busy times. The service was very rapid and very good english spoken by the entire staff. Loved the interior vibes and it just made me settle right in. The menu was broken down by Apetizers, soups, salads, main plates, etc. They also have a great adult beverage selection and they even have a childrens menu. The mezcal drinks were absolutely brilliant and we kept those flowing throughout the meal. For food, we went with the Huitlacoche Fondue, The tortilla Soup, the duck enmoladas, the chamorro tacos, and the catch of the day and a children's quesidilla as we wanted to try it all :). All the food came out promptly and i'll make this simple... this was our MOST enjoyable sit down meal during our entire CDMX trip. The quality of all the ingredients were fantastic. The fondue was absolutely delicious and a perfect way to enjoy a piece of fungus :). But it doesnt taste weird at all it was fantastic and so addictive.  The soup was absolutely refreshing and i loved the thoughtfulness of how they split up the bowl for two adults as they knew who was sharing. The kid's quesidilla which was a bit of a joke but it turned into a fantastic little plate with high ingredients and the guac that came with it. The chamorro Tacos were absolutely tender and well seasoned and so simple but just made so well. Left quite the impression for an upscale taco. The Duck Enmoldas was ABSOLUTELY fantastic. The two mole (black and green) sauces were absolutely the BEST ive ever had. Perfectly delicious and the duck was really lovely. The catch of the day was also a really well executed seafood item that felt fusion eque. Loved all the flavors and the ingredients again were perfectly flaky and tender.  Honestly this was an absolute delicious experience. Absoultely my favorite sit down meal during this trip. Every time I come to Mexico City this is the first place I stop for dinner. The service is outstanding every single time. Though there was a Spanish speaker with me, we appreciate the staff also speaking English to help me. Always love the aesthetic and elegant vibes this restaurant has. Low lighting does make it a little harder to see. Food is always so flavorful especially for their vegan options. Portions are pretty large In my opinion. Quite possibly the best restaurant near Coyoacán Park. Beautiful terrace view over the plaza with all the lively performers, top-notch service. The Caldo de Frijol was incredible -- gorgeous tableside presentation where they pour the broth over the beans and beef. The Betabel crujiente (crispy beet salad) might be the best beets I've ever eaten. Both went straight into my favorite dishes of the trip. The Filete Res Chichilo was excellent. Tarta de Manzana a perfect close. Tlayuda Setas was unique and very good but didn't quite live up to the rest. Tacos Minilla were the weakest. Would absolutely recommend. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Los Danzantes in Coyoacán a few weeks ago when we were staying nearby for a few days. We'd eaten at their other location in Oaxaca and needed a bite to eat after we landed and checked in at our hotel. We arrived around 9pm on a Wednesday, and it was lively and a little busy, but we were able to be seated directly. I ordered a Mexican rosé wine, and my husband had a couple of cocktails. We enjoyed all the drinks we ordered. The food I was a little less happy with. My husband got the enmoladas de pato (heirloom corn cortillas stuffed with confit duck and covered in black mole on one and green mole on the other, with aged cheese and pickled onions. The dish was pretty good, easily the best of the night. I had the Ceviche Verde (fish cured in salt and marinated in citrus juice, oregaon, and herb pesto) and the Tostada de huitlacoche (a tostada with huitlacoche confited in olive oil and herbs and creamed avocado). The ceviche was fine (cutting it in smaller pieces might have led to it being a bit more tender and easy to eat), but I didn't enjoy the tostada. Rather than being a tostada with huitacoche on top of it (as the menu and my instincts suggested), it was about two cups of huitlacoche in a bowl with a tostata laid over the top. The portion of huitlacoche was kind of crazy (way too much for the single tostada it was served with), and I thought it needed more done to it? It tasted like huitlacoche straight out of the can (I'm sure it wasn't, but it needed some additional flavor and spice). The food was a bit of a mixed bag. The service was very good, and the restaurant is stunning. Like the Oaxaca location, Los Danzantes in Coyoacán is in a beautiful building, with stunning character and design. It wasn't the best meal I've had in Mexico City, but it was beautiful and the service was great. I'd definitely return for drinks and its great ambiance and service. read more

We had a damn good meal here... in a private room... and it wasn't crazy expensive. Our group of six or seven did a walk-in for a lunch and they seated us upstairs in a private room that overlooked the Coyoacan plazita. We started with fresh margs and mezcal flights. I honestly can't remember what we ordered, but i do remember the standout dish was the "Hoja Santa" (which is photographed all over their website, so it's a house favorite) and the roasted beets. I have mixed feelings about this last visit to Los Danzantes. First of all, the service remains excellent. Our waiter that we had this time ought to teach classes on how to be a professional waiter. He was very accommodating and made sure that we enjoyed our meal. The worst part was that the restaurant has changed the menu, they have steered away from their specialties that focused a distinct affinity with traditional Nahuatl cuisine. This time the menu was short and closer to higher-end American-style restaurants. It had a choice of ribeye, and yes other specialties were Mexican food, but not like the menu from the previous year. The Huitlacoche fondue had gone through a major change that the delightful fondue we had back in October 2023. This time less cheese and the flavor was compromised. I am aware of another location in Oaxaca, and after browsing that menu it almost makes me wonder if this location was purchased by a new owner. I will have to go to that location if I intend to try something exceptional. The dessert that we purchased to take to our hotel was horrible. We bought an apple tart that tasted weird. The cinnamon-seasoned apples tasted like they had some weird unhealthy aftertaste. read more

The Best! Go here, not just once while in Coayacan, but everyday, if you can! It's just that good! Our last meal before we headed to Huatulco, so let's do it right. It started with our server, Brian, who was incredible. He recognized our time limitations and took care of our meal efficiently yet without feeling rushed. One of our friends wasn't feeling well, so our server went out of his way to get home some toasted bread, which was not on the menu. Between us we enjoyed a roasted beet, rolled in crushed almonds and served with a delicious sauce. This felt like you were slicing into a steak, it was so perfectly prepared and filling. We had a salad with grilled chicken and roasted seasonal vegetables, I'm still dreaming of this! Exceptional! Lastly mu husband enjoyed a taco of gusanos and a sope with corn and ants, I passed on that and I'm sure he was happy that I did, since he had this plate all to himself! Disappointing. This place has everything but good food. It is supposed to be a higher nicer restaurant and it hit the mark in regard to ambience, location, vibe, drinks, and service( exceptional). Unfortunately, we were so disappointed by the food. We started off with Tortilla Soup to share and the complimentary bread. The soup was presented beautifully and poured into the bowl, table side for a nice touch. It was so over-salted that it overwhelmed the other flavors. The broth was too thick (in my opinion, like a stew) and barely warm. We both tried it and left it. Second course was the Tostada Danzante. This was a crunchy traditional tortilla served almost like a thin flat bread with several local cheeses, crispy grasshoppers and a couple bite size tomatoes. Again, beautiful presentation but flavor was extremely salty!! The cheeses were already salty, add the grasshoppers which are usually little salt bombs, and then seasoned lard, too much! We tried adding the tomato to our bites to cut the salt but it still overwhelmed every flavor. My friend ordered the pork shank tacos hoping for a basic dish, elevated to another level but it didn't even qualify at that. After 3 failed dishes I refused to order a main and opted to close out our tab. The waiter noticed our dishes were almost intact and questioned our like/ dislikes of the dishes. I ended up with the manager at our table as I honestly shared my thoughts about the food. He ended up bringing us a few more bites to try which were better than the ones we ordered but not a place I would return to or recommend solely based on the food. I want to point out that the manager and waiter went out of their way to make sure we had a better food experience ( bringing several other samples of dishes to try) and I appreciated that, it just wasn't worthy of a recommendation. read more

I was really excited about here. Because 1of my friends of friend recommended . I said really wanted seafood so friend was bring me here. Service is great and perfect! I really love very nice. Order grilled octopus . It was mistake. I knew marinaded but my preference is need some sauce. Like chimichurri or some kind of tomato based hot sauce. Well they gave us a sauce. So we just put on( usually I don't like to change of taste because there chefs decide food. Any way ok. Others duck salads . It was looks fancy but taste wise just salty and vinegary that's it. I'm glad I walked the 25 minutes because this is an excellent restaurant! Showed up in Coyoacan around 3pm and checked out the church and a few shops/ very cool old town. Looking into the resto, it's completely full inside and out at 3pm? Had to try this one! Started with some great local IPA and ordered the famed Santa Hoja Appetizer. It's basically a pepper leaf filled with two types of melted cheeses served with homemade tortillas. Was great & on menu for 20 years they said? One of the better restaurants in the area, you get some amazing dishes here. I thought I'd go out of my comfort zone and order a dish with crickets. The Mogo Mogo were plantain croquettes with chile and toasted crickets for $145 pesos. I can't say they taste like chicken, but when they are ground up into indiscernible pieces you really can't tell if they have a flavor. I would say a bit on the nutty side. I would eat them again. Also had the green ceviche. Fish of the day in a coconut milk with blue corn chips. I don't recall the price, but very different flavors and I loved it! Facing the park area, if you do sit alongside the outdoors, be prepared to be approached by the many artists, vendors, beggars, etc. The ambiance itself is amazing! Low lighting with classical and modern Mexican architecture. Price-wise, it is expensive for a restaurant in Mexico City, but compared to the US it is reasonable. When I come back to Mexico City, I am going to hit this place up again. It really is a feast for the mouth, eyes and ears. read more

This is a special place. The restaurant building and location are spectacular which is combined with excellent food and good service. I had dinner here with two business colleagues and we wanted a light meal. We started with cerviche which was delicious and then shared enchiladas de pato with two moles. The mole negro was amazing. This was probably one of the best dinners we had in Mexico City! It is a charming, Neo-Oaxacan (if that even is a category...think of the Mexican equivalent of New American cuisine) space located next to the Fuente de los Coyotes in central Coyoacan. After a day of adventurous eats in Mercado de Coyoacan, I wanted to cross huitlacoche (corn fungus) off my list. We got a huitlacoche tostada, grilled bone marrow, fried tuna tacos, and roast beets. When we were there (late June), they even had a special escamol menu (ants) that I was really compelled to try, but my parents vetoed it immediately. Next time, though. Each dish was beautifully presented and portions were quite generous compared to some of the dinners we had in Condesa and Roma. I can't decide which one was my favorite, but the roasted beets (covered in peanut, sesame, panko (?) served with farro was fantastic. The huitlacoche was surprisingly savory, earthy, and like black truffle. It paired amazingly with the avocado and microgreens on the tostada. There are a lot of really great places to eat in Mexico City and I would say that this would be top 15 for me and top 3 favorite restaurants in Coyoacan! The ambiance is nice (depending on what day you go since it could be a little crazy with all the rest of the stuff going on in the center park of Coyoacan), but they did a nice job with lights, plants, etc. to make it feel romantic. One of my favorites restaurants in CDMX. If you love Oaxacan food, this is the place to be. To start, they have a great mezcal selection and cocktail menu and you won't go wrong with a mango mezcal margarita! Service is great and everyone is extremely attentive and cordial. I don't love the hoja santa starter but try the tlayuda de setas to start. I also loved the chapulines starter, but I guess that's not for everyone. My favorite main dish is the pork belly with mole de cenizas... amazing! For desert the cascada de chocolate with gorgonzola ice cream is my go to choice and I highly recommend it. read more

Aside from a somewhat charming atmosphere and good service, everything off its menu were really underwhelming. I ordered the shrimp tlayuda while my friends had the coco shrimp, tuna, and two different types of steak. The tortilla that wraps my tlayuda was suppose to be crisp around the edges, but mine was stale and practically unedible. My friends also complained about the quality of the steaks and fish entrees. I personally tried the tuna and they were very poorly cooked. In fact, the inside of the tuna tasted like it was just defrosted. Funny enough, we raised the issue to the waiter about the tuna and he immediately agreed with us and offered to take them off the bill. I was honestly quite surprised that this poor level of food can come out of the kitchen of a fine dining restaurant. The only plausible explanation is that our service was the last one in the evening. Anyhow, this is highly inexcusable for the price we paid and the fact that almost all of our dishes consistently missed the marks. read more
