This place is always hopping for good reason. The food is consistently delicious, the margaritas are solid, and the salsa is genuinely good. The ambience is great and there's plenty of seating, so even though it's popular, it never feels cramped. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. Los Dos Portillos is consistently good. I've been to multiple locations, and the quality is just as good every time. Occasionally, you'll even catch a mariachi band, which adds a really fun, authentic vibe. One time they even humored me and played "Poco Loco," which thoroughly delighted me. There will almost always be a wait on Friday and Saturday nights, but honestly, it's a reflection of how popular the place is, and it's worth it. I grew up in an area with a high Hispanic population, so my standards for Mexican food are pretty high. This place absolutely delivers. Ahhhhhmazing food! Always great service. I discovered that there is a back patio which is so nice when the weather is good! The steak nachos and table side guac are phenomenal. Although I do find it annoying that they put huge chunks of steak on the nachos so you have to individually cut them up. Nachos shouldn't require silverware. The margs are tasty! Prices are fair. We have taken family and friends from out of town and all have been satisfied each time. They do have a wait during popular times so be aware of that but you can always get a drink at the bar. This Los Dos Potrillos on San Juan Way has improved over the years. The first time I ate there it was not good. I have decided to give it another chance, so I went back a few years later, and the food and service was much better. They have a big menu with several great meals. One of my favorites is the Los Dos Potrillos burrito. It is a large chicken and bean burrito smothered in their excellent green chile. Our large group of 15 had dinner at this lively restaurant. They don't take reservations and we were told to go early given its popularity. Our server did a pretty good job of getting all our orders correct and the dishes were brought out quickly. The place appeared to be clean but my menu had quite a lot of dried food in it. I ordered the Los Dos Potrillos enchilada's and my niece ordered the Chili Relleno nachos. The food arrived quickly and the initial presentation was good. The guacamole was fresh as were the vegetables. My entire lunch was cold. The beef enchilada filling was rotten and had a strong flavor. I couldn't finish anything because of the bad taste in my mouth from the beef. My nieces chili relleno nachos were swimming in grease. We had 1 entree, 1 appetizer and two glasses of water and the bill with a 20% tip was $43.88 for a lunch neither of us ate. read more

The wait staff was double timing since it was a very busy lunch hour which was good business for the restaurant. What was annoying was the final service. We had asked for receipts for card charges and a return of change from cash - neither happened. When the service ignores the customer requests perhaps for desiring bigger tips on the charges, that is disrespectful and unreasonable. My sister lives in Littleton, CO, and her family often eats there. My sister took me for my birthday. We shared two appetizers. Chili Rejanno and guacamole were made at the table. We couldn't finish all of it. I was happy we couldn't finish everything because I took the leftovers home for dinner the next day. Also, my sister told them it was my birthday. They brought out a sopaipilla the size of the plater. They topped it with strawberry preserve, chocolate drizzled all over it, and whipping cream. Although Los Dos Potrillos is a chain, I just had to try it. I'm a fan of small strip malls and this was the perfect location. Every single staff member was so kind and took great care of us. The service was attentive and quick. If you have a large party, this restaurant can surely accommodate. With several large seating areas, Los Dos can certainly get packed, but it was only a little busy when I ate here. Complimentary chips and salsa was good, but the salsa was too spicy for me. Like most Mexican restaurants the menu is several pages long and packed with tons of different options. It was a bit overwhelming for me, but I finally settled on a combination plate. Chicken enchilada, chile relleno, taco, rice and beans. Yeah, that's all one plate and boy was it yummy. Food was amazing as always, which is why I'm writing this review. Immediately on arrival my family starts eating the chips/salsa. The salsa looks like the Costco brand w an added ingredient! I'm pretty sure it's MSG.. my entire family immediately became lethargic and fell asleep. We all woke up w pounding headaches. Even the Birthday girl turning 6. We lost an entire sat afternoon and evening. We slept,in complete agony. On top of that we had LAZY service, accompanied w heavy doses of eye rolls. None of our plates were taken away at any time. Our drinks went empty for way too long. When my husband asked her to take his empty glass she gave an eye roll. She said she'd come back and never did. A good 40 min later my husband asks her "can you please take this empty glass" she takes it w yup,another eye roll. My husband had mentioned our little one was having a bday. And she forgot. When reminded,another eye roll. When it was time to pay she was no where to be found. We had 3 people looking for her on their walkytalkies. The headaches started immediately! Blurred vision! Before coming in I was expecting to give this restaurant a 5 star review, their Instagram posts always look so amazing; but that's not the experience we received. The Service: for me this is the most essential part of a great experience, for a Sunday evening the waiters looked annoyed at any request our table had. Perhaps they had a long day, I get it; but our party did not feel welcomed. The food: the food was a solid 6/10. There was no true flavor to the dishes we ordered and we didn't get that wow factor that would make any person come back. The food needed more salt, seasonings. The best thing we ate was the Guacamole, that was spot on delicious.
