Delicious Tacos. However a young boy was wondering around and getting into peoples booths and touching their food. 2 employees and the dad saw this and continued to let it happen. Ordered Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo Grilled Shrimp seasoned in a buttery garlic sauce with dry chili peppers, and served with white rice, salad mix, and tortillas. Shrimp was cooked perfectly - garlic sauce is great. Rice had an excellent flavor - definitely not plain rice. read more

We enjoyed our Friday evening dinner here. The staff was pleasantly attentive and the atmosphere casual and happy. The Star however, was the food. This restaurant, in the location of a former Chinese restaurant, Szechuan House, has a very attractive dining room, helpful servers, and a large Latin American menu. The restaurant is owned by Lourdes Perez Rojo, in partnership with Víctor Roman. Perez Rojo is also known for her ownership of Lulu's Latin Food. Lulu's is among our favorite restaurants in Lawrence, but its dining room is small, limiting the extent of the menu that can be accommodated by that excellent restaurant. Los Guapos dining room and menu are much larger than Lulu's. We were somewhat surprised to find that the menu more closely resembles the menu at Acapulco Mexican Grill than the menu at Lulu's. But the choices and preparations at Los Guapos tend to be more upscale and diverse than at Acapulco Mexican Grill. For example, Los Guapos has choices of Latin American sandwiches, Tortas, not available elsewhere in Lawrence. We were there on the restaurant's opening day. In fact, it had just opened two hours before we arrived. With such a large menu and ambitious objectives, the kitchen did not yet completely have its "act together." The kitchen made two major errors with our orders, not the fault of the server. When we pointed out the errors to Victor Roman, he charged us nothing for our dinner and also provided a free dessert. Although there was no bill for us to pay, we left a large cash tip for the server. The management could not have been more considerate of the opening day mistakes, and we very much appreciated that. We expect that after a few more days open, this restaurant will rise to the top of the Latin and Mexican restaurants in Lawrence. In my review below, I am not mentioning the two mistakes, which were an unfortunate consequence of temporary opening day problems. We do not expect such mistakes to be made in the future and hence should not be viewed as relevant to the restaurant's future. There is one problem that is beyond the control of the owners of this restaurant. There are extensive road repairs under way on that part of 6th Street. Completion of those repairs will eventually be very much to the benefit of this restaurant, which currently is adversely affected by the road conditions in front of the restaurant. The restaurant has a full bar. We ordered wine by the glass, including a Chardonnay and a Merlot. Both the Chardonnay and the Merlot were more expensive than at Acapulco Mexican Grill, but of no better quality. This restaurant is very good about substitutions. We substituted black beans for the refried beans and a cheese enchilada for the rice. The interesting cheese enchilada preparation was somewhat unusual and very good. We liked it. We got two street tacos: the Papas a la Mexicano (including potatoes) and the Nopalitos (including cactus). Both were excellent. I got the Filete de Pescado. The fish was excellent, the best we have gotten at a Latin or Mexican restaurant in Lawrence. The menu contains other interesting dishes we plan to try in the future, such as the Chilaquiles Verdes O Rojos, which contains 2 eggs and Bolillo Mexican bread. We will probably wait a while before returning, so the kitchen can get "up to speed" without further mistakes. But there are two disadvantages of this restaurant which likely will not go away soon: the driving conditions on 6th Street and the wine selection. In all other ways, this is now the most interesting Latin and/or Mexican restaurant in Lawrence. We will definitely return. read more

The staff were all very nice and attentive. The place looked really pretty with all the lights. They started us off with complementary chips and salsa which was decent. We ordered horchata, steak fajita, and Camarones a la diabla. The horchata was a bit too watery for me and did not have as much flavor as I'd hope so I probably would not get that again. The Steak fajita was good and had a decent amount of meat. It's really hard to find good camarones a la diabla but this one was great! It had a very good amount of spice, I personally wished it had a bit more salt, but other than that it was amazing. The rice that came with it was also one of the best rice I've had. Overall, I would like to come here again and definitely recommend giving this place a try! read more

We arrived on Cinco de Mayo with a confirmed reservation, only to be told they were not accepting reservations (despite advertising them on their website). After waiting over 30 minutes, we were told a table was being cleaned for us, but it was given to another group. When we were finally seated, our server informed us they were out of chips. The owner then walked around offering samples to nearby tables but intentionally skipped ours. Overall, the experience was disorganized, unwelcoming, and disappointing. 1 Star for flavor, 0 stars for digestive peace. The food wasn't too great, but oh...what came after, was pure vengeance. My body became a human whoopee cushion powered by demons and refried beans. It wasn't digesting, it was summoning. The customers and workers of TJ MAXX ignored my guttural cries for help, mistaking it as vulgar. I didn't toot. I declared war. My battle cries earned me several concerned looks but before I could feel too judged another wave of bacterial fermentation spewed out of my mouth. upon walking in, we were sort of neglected as we ended up waiting 35 minutes for an already empty table. Food tasted great as well as positive attitude from all. The table we were sat was a full of crumbs and we had to wait 30 minutes for our food. I would defiantly bring your own water per the taste being off. Food wise, my only complaint is that the Carne Asada nachos were misleading. I was expecting a more steak-like cut of meat. Instead, I was giving SUPER THIN pieces of meat, the same thickness as bacon for approx $13. The lighting and atmosphere was great, though a little tacky. There's a lot to look at for sure, but with everything being there, there's no way to ensure it adequately gets cleaned. I ordered 3 beef tacos to go. When I got home to eat my meal, One taco was fine, one taco had a small bite of ground beef with refried beans, the third taco had no beef, replaced with refried beans! This place has some of the best Mexican food I have ever had and that's saying a lot considering that I grew up in East LA. A couple months back my son and I were really sick and I ordered some chicken soup and posole. It was so incredible. I ordered it again the next night. Since I've picked up food quickly a couple times but today I got to sit down at the bar. Leslie made my margarita perfectly, just the way I like it and didn't have a problem with me being picky.
