Restaurant serving counter
Michael J.

I was here a month ago and I knew that I would have to come back. They have such a wide variety of foods for lunch. This time, I sat down in the restaurant and was able to leisurely enjoy my meal. All the foods behind the plasti-covered serving counter are labeled in Spanish. Everything looked so delicious, it was hard to choose. But I settled on beef desebrada, pork carnitas, rice, and beans. I ordered a large horchata as a beverage. All of this for only $15. Very friendly service at the counter and lots of hungry customers. I'll be back.

I've been here three times now so it's a regular spot. The menudo is solid though does have quite a kick with more chiles than any other menudo I've ever had. Also their gorditas are their best selling item so I recommend trying those. Lengua was disappointing but chicharones are large pieces with lots of flavor. Everytime I've been here it's also been quite busy, it's got a great reputation in the community and I recommend it for authentic Mexican cuisine.

I was a little put off by the exterior decor. The barred windows were the questionable part. There was a decent crowd for 10am when we got inside. They have full menus in addition to pictures of their popular plates along the wall. I ordered the chorizo plate since it was a breakfast item. I was a little disappointed in how little avocado I got. The plate was almost entirely chorizo. It was too much to finish! The salsas were really good too. The prices are good here.

Gorditas in the making

This place is known for the gorditas but If you want menudo on the weekend or gorditas for lunch. This place is the spot to go to. It's always packed especially on weekends. They food is consistently good and they have a large variety of food. Don't forget to get your grilled jalapeños at the end.

Gorditas w/side of rice and beans

The gorditas were perfectly made. They had the right amount of crisp, freshness and flavor. I chose to get mine filled with pork in green chili and carne asada. The rice and beans were ok, but I would skip them the next time. The place is definitely a hole in the wall and feels a little cramped so I would recommend ordering to go. When I'm back in Denver I will stop by again.

This place is legit. I grew up in Southern California and spent a bunch of time in Baja, this place reminds me of both. Authentic and delicious tacos al pastor and a coke. Yes they have orange Fanta and I can't believe I didn't order that. Looks like they have homemade horchata too. Love it.

Surprisingly good, authentic hidden gem I encountered on my neighborhood walk. Cleaned my cheese enchiladas plate. Will be back for more.

Place is cozy, right on the corner, very natural earthy interior design, makes it feel like vacation and very different from rest of Denver vibe. Foods are beyond just tasteful, feels like a whole experience with every bite. You typically need 4 to 5 plates for a party of two, each plate is elegantly designed and crafted. It comes out as a pure perfection, the house cocktails are unique above all is the avocado margarita, which is one of the exotic cocktails of all. Staff are extremely professional, not too friendly, not too cold, just the right amount of politeness to make one comfortable. For my fellow Denver folks, you have to visit this place to experience contemporary Mexican dishes, which, by the way, most of them taste more towards a comfortable level of spicy.

Our server was very knowledgeable without being too pushy or over explanatory. We tried the big eye tuna ceviche, the scallops and the classic braised lamb shank. We loved two of the three however the big eye tuna was a bit of a flavor bomb and the tuna did not stand out. There was way too much going on and we kind of just felt like it was a salty mess. Denver is lucky to have a culinary gem like this and we look forward to returning to try some of the new creations!

The food was delicious! We got $2 chips and salsa off the happy hour menu and the queso con soyrizo (not on HH menu) which was served with warm tortillas. Honestly we probably didn't need all that because the tacos were so good I could've just filled up on more of the tacos, but still was a great meal! I ordered the lengua, pastor, and taco special (breaded shrimp). They were all so good. Think taco quality of a good street taco spot but with the ambiance of a cute tex mex bar. The bartender was great and made a solid marg ($8 on happy hour). You get a great deal on taco Tuesday but I'm sure you'd get great service and quality any day of the week!

Then you are driving the neighborhood hoping to find a spot. Finally parked and walked to the restaurant. Host told me it would be 30 minutes but the actual wait was 50 minutes. Spend so much time parking and then waiting, at what point do you give up and leave empty handed? Restaurant is VERY LOUD. Finally got a table and ordered OFF MENU. Server agreed to substitute shrimp for my enchiladas and they were good! Fresh corn tortillas were the highlight. Ordered tres leches cake and enjoyed it too. Was a nice meal but just not worth all the hassle.

But this was Monday evening and we were seated immediately. Our server said that we had 5 minutes left for Happy Hours--thank you!!--so ordered Caliente Margaritas and appetizers. The nachos were delicious--and messy! The Margaritas were as well. I had a nonalcoholic Athletic Brewing Company Cerveza Atletica (Mexican style copper). There were several other NA cocktails and beers available as well. We were all very pleased with our entrees. They were all luscious. Two of us are vegetarian and there were plenty of choices. I had Crispy Avocado Tacos, which came with black beans, and a side of Street Corn--both great choices. My friend had quesadillas and Potato Flautas , which I tasted and almost wish I had ordered as well. Our carnivore gentleman partners were also very happy, with one of them choosing a sampler, "Perdida's 'Best Of' Plate." Perdida is a great new addition to the Wash Park area.
