Being from Chicago and having truly authentic Mexican food at your disposal, when traveling, Mexican can be a hit or miss choice. This local restaurant, however, was a diamond in the rough! Service was absolutely fantastic, super family friendly, a very large selection of items on the menu. My steak fajitas were absolutely delicious, the meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Beans and rice had great flavor, the salsa could have been a bit more spicy. For a table of four people, prices were extremely reasonable. Decor of the restaurant pleasant and inviting. The rice tasted like it came out of a box. The beans were good. Eggs a little over cooked. The ranchero sauce was.... Well. They called it Huevos Rancheros. It was a step up from Taco Bell. Overall. It is probably pretty important to start off by saying that I have certain expectations for Mexican restaurants. I like roasted tomato salsas with plenty of flavor (onion, cilantro, jalapeño) pico de gallo with my chips. I do not care for glorified ketchup or salsas that simply add "hot sauce" to add spice or flavor. Unfortunately this is what Los Nopales (and many other Mexican restaurants in the area) consider this as salsa. In order to be fair, I have tried this restaurant a few times. The first few times I was not impressed and hadn't planned to return. I was invited by friends, so I decided to try something I hadn't previously tried, nachos. This time I requested pico de gallo, which seemed to make a huge difference. One frustration I did have though. The menu said my nachos came with guacamole, but they did not have it. When I asked my waiter for my guacamole he did, but he also charged me for it. Had I noticed it before checking out they may have made it right, but I did not notice until later (I was with friends and just paid without looking, which was my mistake). Overall I don't foresee myself returning too often. read more

Average "authentic" TexMex at best. The service was very friendly and quick while the food was very well priced. The lunch deals were very cheap but this is small town USA. We loved that they brought a spicy and mild salsa with the chips when you sit down. The spicy wasn't too hot at all but it was nice to have the option. I ordered the Enchiladas Caseras on the lunch menu while my colleague ordered the Black Bean Burrito. Both meals arrived quickly and were hot/fresh. I didn't love the cheese on my enchiladas but the steak was tasty. It's impressive how much food you get for these prices. read more

We were in town for a soccer tournament and had a large group of people and this location was able to accommodate on short notice. I'm not sure why the ratings aren't as high but I would expect higher ratings from this place. We had an excellent time! The quesadillas were huge and so was my burrito. It was stuffed with all kinds of goodness, not just meat. Then it was drowned in cheese. It was called a California burrito. We also got the queso, which was slightly runnier than usual, but very good with our chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa was fairly routine. Very good price on the 32 ounce beer and the house margarita was equivalent pricing. I will definitely go back when I am in town. read more

It's been a long time coming. With local Mexican cuisine changing ownership hand over fist, I need to update my last review. The last time I reviewed this franchise was when I came off the road and settled in for a good lunch special "number 7" lunch chicken quesadilla with Mexican rice. Honestly, the radcliff location was abysmal. Needless to say they went out of business, and now El Molino owns that restaurant. They are doing great, the cuisine as top notch, but that's another story. Our story is with Los Napolis. So it appears that the only lasting or existing Los Napoles is located in Elizabethtown Kentucky. My wife and I have been there a few times since and every time we feel that the cuisine and service was excellent. The food portions were generous and the taste was close to divine . We are glad that we gave this franchise another chance. Without any regret, or any influence by outside sources, or possible, backers or sponsors, I truly recommend Los Napolis for its value, authentic taste, and generous portions couples with excellent attentiveness and service. I would give this place more than five stars. If I could, come here, you will not regret it. read more

To preface this review, Mexican food is one of my least favorite food options, but you can't always win on where you go to eat. The homemade chips were great, fresh and still warm when they were brought to our table. The accompanying salsas were something to be desired, just tasted like a can of tomatoes without any flavoring, but the spicier option was a bit better. The guac was pretty much just mashed avocados. No tomato or onion or any seasonings in that either (see attached photos). I got the carne asada tacos and they were decent, the sauce that came with them was great, just a bit salty over all. We also got the steak burrito, pretty much you would expect, also on the salty side. The service was fine. Food came out quick. No complaints there. They also had a nice patio area we could sit at. Pricing was good for the amount of food you got. I wouldn't go back but it wasn't a terrible experience. A very "fine" Mexican restaurant, essentially exactly what you would expect. read more

One of my favorite Mexican spots in Kentucky, I make sure to visit every time I am in Etown. On this trip I had the Flautas de pollo and it was very delicious. I recommend the cheese dip as well and a margarita to wash it all down. Food was great and the serving size was more than enough. Great service as usual, will definitely be back soon! read more

So, it's okay. I had a craving for good Mexican food and I was famished, heading from Indianapolis down to Nashville and I detoured to Los Nopales as it was lunch time and the Yelpers sounded pretty fond of this place. The service was friendly, the building and parking adequate. The menu, at least at lunch (maybe there's a more extensive dinner menu) was a bit limited and standard. I wanted something al pastor or high-quality pork based but chorizo was about it for pork options. I opted for the Chori-Pollo, a chicken breast slathered in cheese and covered with chorizo, served w/ rice and beans and flour tortillas. The sauce was good, the chicken well cooked and it was pretty good. I had a small 12 oz margarita (under $2!). I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was just premixed store bought margarita mix, and a slight tequila pour. I ordered some guacamole and it too felt/looked/tasted store bought instead of house made--but I could be wrong. Chips and salsa were not the best I'd had either but they did the job. I wish the plate I oredered had some sour cream and/or dressing options (lettuce, onion, tomato). Prices were fair though and if I lived in the area I'm sure I'd be here on occasion. read more

Clean and friendly environment with great pricing. I accidentally order the wrong chimichanga, instead of the fried, I got the grilled. It was amazing! Doesn't look like much when you drive past, but my kind girlfriend suggested this was the best Mexican restaurant in town. Need I say more, we ended up dining here. Upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly seated by the hostess/waiter. They may bring you a lunch menu, but if you desire a bigger and better portion of grub, you can ask for the dinner menu. The chips and salsa we were served were pretty decent. The chips were delicious, and very warm, and fresh. The salsa was somewhat of a let down. The hot salsa definitely had a kick to it, but it did not send my tongue into Flavortown. The mild salsa could also be better infused with some more flavor as well. After browsing the menu for awhile, I decided I would stick to my usual at every Mexican restaurant I go to, 3 soft chicken tacos, with a side of beans, and a side of rice. My girlfriend decided upon the steak burrito, queso style, with a side of rice. Our food was brought out exquisitely quick, within 5 minutes of ordering. The tacos came out wrapped in foil for heat preservation, which is always a good thing to see. Upon taking my first bite, I was a bit taken away by the overwhelming taste of chicken noodle soup that I got from the taco itself. Such a weird flavor, I know! But that's exactly what it taste like! They weren't bad by any mean, they just had a very distinct taste! The burrito was also pretty decent, although I had the leftovers at home later, and in my opinion, it could have been filled with a bigger portion of steak! All together though, I would give the tacos a 3/5, and the steak burrito a 3.5/5. The chips and salsa receive a 3.5/5. The overall customer service and cleanliness of the restaurant receives a 4/5. The 1 point deduction because it seemed that they only had 1-2 waiters for the whole lobby. There weren't many people but I could expect maybe 3 waiters/waitresses, although the two working seemed to do a very nice job. To summarize, I was somewhat surprised by the environment of the restaurant and the overall service. The food was decent, although not the best I've had, but certainly not close to the worst. I would definitely come back every once in a while! Los Nopales gets a 3 star rating from me, but if you could do half stars, it would be a 3.5! read more

This is a very good Mexican restaurant, and definitely worth the drive from Fort Knox to E-town for! I was taken here one evening by a Mexican friend who told me the name means "the cacti." I don't know what exactly cacti have to do with this place, but it's overall a very unusual location to begin with. I mean the restaurant has a separate area where they sell CDs, cans of juice, boxes of candy, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I guess the owners have the right to do that if they want, but it's not very often you come across a restaurant that's also some kind of store. Anyway, they were quick to seat my group and bring out chips and salsa. They did a good job at this for a few reasons. First of all, the chips were already warm and toasty when they arrived at the table. They were also attentive enough to bring out a second tray of chips before the first one was done. The salsa came in two bottles for the spicy variety and a milder version. They gave us each smaller bowls for us to pour the salsa into and allow us to double dip from our individual bowls. It's also not very often you find a restaurant that has a well-thought out system for something so simple. My entree was the Combo D'light for $12.50, and it came to the table in a fairly short time considering how busy the place was. It was a plate with grilled chicken and steak that were delicious. To the side were a very soft rice, guacamole, shredded lettuce, and tomato. I imagine the whole thing would have made for some pretty amazing tacos, but they put it on a plate instead. I'm fine with that, but the dish seemed to get cold way too fast with the way it was spread out, allowing heat to disperse quickly. That's just about my only complaint with Los Nopales. Definitely one of the better restaurants I've been to in the area. read more

Pretty good! I am a fan of chicken over rice with veggies and smothered in cheese sauce, or a chicken with a sour cream sauce, something that is not always on the menu at Mexican restaurants. This place had both, but I ended up going with the Chicken Acapulco, which had the veggies and cheese. I had lunch with my family, we had 2 meals, one lunch portion, and 3 soda drinks, which came to 45+ dollars, which I think is kind of pricy. The restaurant itself is also a little dingy.....I questioned the cleanliness, but yea that never stops me from eating unless its really bad. Also they have a wall of CDs for sale? I kind of like the thought of that. I would definitely try this place again when in Elizabethtown. read more

We were stopping through Elizabethtown for dinner and I gave my 13 year old son the choice for the meal. He was going for Mexican, so this place seemed to be the highest rated in town. It wasn't particularly close to the interstate, but it was his choice...so we went. We were able to sit outside, that's cool. Salsa was basic, chips were basic but they arrived immediately so that was cool. Once we placed our order, we sat there a long time with no attention. Like 20 minutes without even someone coming by to check on our (empty) chips or drinks. Once the food arrived, though, everything changed. I ordered the Burrito Carbon and it was, no exaggeration, the best burrito that I have had. Just awesome! My sons soapapilla was average, the rice and beans were average. One cool part was the huge selection of Hispanic CD's. I wasn't going to buy any, but it was still cool to see! read more

Ordered here on a whim after our previous dinner plans fell thru. Called at 7:30 on a Friday night for pickup, they said it'll be ready in 20mins. When I went inside to pick up, they had a decent system working for them, they all seemed organized with their new way of handling to go food. I appreciated that with the way they had things set up, there was still room for guests to stand 6 feet apart comfortably. I ordered vegetarian fajitas, he ordered a steak cheese and rice dish, I cannot remember the name but both were delicious. The employees double checked my food with me and were so nice and funny. I had asked for melted cheese to be added to my veggies and he said "I know this is yours because the cheese, see I remember!" So sweet. They offered margaritas to go due to the pandemic, I got two strawberry margaritas, one frozen and one on the rocks. Everything was great and enjoyed at home. The food stayed hot and fresh. What a treat! Delicious - huge portions - great value. Often Mexican restaurants substitute quality and taste for just copious amounts of subpar food ... NOT Los Nopales. All of our dishes were loaded with flavor and great ingredients--fresh veggies, nicely grilled chicken, flavorful sauces, HUGE grilled shrimp in a quesadilla. Well thought out dishes - so great!
