The food is always excellent, the carry out is correct on average more than a number of other Elizabethtown places. Once in a great while, my favorite Chuletas pork chops are over done and a little dry but normally they are excellent! Went back for carry out tonight and the burrito verde was way too salty as was the shrimp fajita salad. So salty they were bitter. It was the worst Ive ever had there. I was very disappointed. This is our go-to Mexican restaurant in town. With a close second being mi Jalisco. El Tapito has a very nice atmosphere, food is always served very hot from the kitchen best salsa in town (in my opinion). Chips are ok nothing special but are good. Overall the menu items we have tried have always been very good and consistent in preparation(very important). Prices are reasonable. Pretty standard experience here. Me, my boyfriend, and his family came here for dinner. This is a go-to place for them in Etown whenever they want Mexican food. My boyfriend and I weren't very hungry so we ordered the spinach and mushroom quesadilla to split between the two of us. However, we have no self control so when the server brought out the chips we had to graze. We mixed the salsa they brought out with the hot sauce that was on the table to give it an extra little kick. When the food came, the quesadilla was pretty good, nice and cheesy. After a few good mexican restaurants in radcliff but continuing to look for some good salsa...we decided to try etown entering the establishment the vibe was good was promptly seated with menus I went to use the restroom washed my hands came out still no chips salsa or drink order placed waited another 10 min till that was taken this was 745pm so not busy not slow. Finally got our chips and salsa chips were cold and hard as a rock but the salsa was actually good compared to what ive been getting in the area we asked for warm chips and the waitress thought i said more finally she understood and they were a lil better. I ordered a fajita as did my boyfriend finally his came out with jalapeños which wasn't added so it was returned mine came out smaller than a lunch serving but I didn't complain took a bite of my rice and beans both ice cold he tried his and the same tried explaining to the waitress about our horrible experience and she had the manager who came over and apologized did give a discount but I will not be returning was a horrible first experience and I usually give 2 chances but to many better options than to waste my time here again. As you enter the color of the tables and chairs and walls stand out right away and tell you that you are in a Mexican restaurant. The menu is full of all varieties of Mexican cuisine. Our service has always been great and the food has always been very good to excellent. Portions are plentiful and most everything comes with house made tortilla chips with salsa. You can also call for takeout which we have done many times to take home and watch a ball game on TV. Oh, on Mondays they have 10% off. I recommend it highly. read more

Service was somewhat okay aside from the fact that another waiter tried taking our order 10 minutes after the first waiter had already taken it. Now for the food.... The food is not the best Mexican food I have had. I won't go too far and say it is the worst because the California Burrito I had would have been phenomenal had it not been cold. The flan I had on the other hand... that was the worst flan I have ever had in my 27 years on this Earth. It was smaller than normal for flan and poorly presented as you can see in the picture I have posted. The picture they have on the menu of the flan looks nothing like how they actually serve it to you and thus, was very disappointing since I had been looking forward to it since the moment I saw it on the menu. The flan had no flavor to it on top of the poor presentation and the chocolate that was sloppily drizzled on it had a strange taste to it as though it was some sort of imitation chocolate. In town for an event at Fort Knox. Expecting OK food and was pleasantly surprised by some very good food. The wait staff was awesome as I had a special order of a Chimichangas with Carnitas instead of chicken or beef. The waiter didn't bat an eye and the food came out perfect. This place is one of our favorite Mexican restaurant in Elizabethtown. We come here almost every time we are in E-town shopping or running errands. Friendly servers. Reasonably priced. Clean Restaurant. Bathrooms might need updating but they are clean-which is very important. Food is delicious every time we are here. Our favorite dishes are: The mexican chicken soup. Tacos de carne asada (we ask for corn tortilla instead and cilantro and onion) The Coconut Shrimp are always crispy --and the price is even better for 6 pieces! Their cheese sauce is a bit runny but good and has a hint of spice not much but you can taste it. The salsa and chips are always fresh. When we go to other Mexican restaurants we always compare and we end up saying.. Tapatio is the BEST!!!! read more

I am not always in the mood for Mexican food, but El Tapatio is great. It is always my friends and I's go-to for Mexican. I went for my third time last week and enjoyed it yet again. The pricing is reasonable. I often just get a couple tacos (a la carte) and it fills me up. You can buy three a la carte tacos for four to five dollars, and they aren't small by any means. If im feeling a bit more hungry, I usually get a burrito. The full meals can get a bit more pricey but, for the amount you receive, it is definitely a fair price. Two people eating there will run you about 18-25, depending on drinks and appetizers of course. I feel the location is one of the main selling points. It is right in the middle of town, sitting in the same shopping center as Kroger. Inside is nice and clean usually and it is rarely ever too crowded during the day. I would recommend trying El Tapatio out if you are feeling like Mexican. They have a friendly staff, reasonable prices, and great food! read more

Me and my family go here a lot and the food quality and taste is amazing. They have some of the best chips and salsa I've ever had and there chicken and rice dishes are so good. Have frequented this location many times over the last several years. Since 2020 we have ordered carry out and the quality has consistently gone down with each order. First of all, they continually increase their prices. Each order comes with only 1 chip and salsa no matter how many meals it includes. Anything more is an extra charge, which is ridiculous when they're unlimited for dine in. Secondly, portions are not equal. My husband always gets steak fajitas and lately it's more veggies than steak. Also, they do not fill carry out containers to their potential either. One scoop of beans and rice spreads out to cover the bottom of the tin so it looks full. Thirdly, I literally live 2 miles away and had to put the food, tortillas, and chips in the oven to get them hot. That should never been an issue given my proximity to the restaurant but it has been the theme with the last few orders. Disappointing to say the least. Went for lunch and my son left a toy on the table which is clearly our fault, went back in literally 30 seconds later to get his toy and couldn't find it. Lady at the front said nobody had cleaned the table, our drinks had clearly been taken off the table and couldn't find his toy. She said anything found is always brought to her, asked for a manager and they went to kitchen to see if anyone had found it, she came back with it. Been here quite a few times visiting the in-laws. Always been seated right away and mainly fast service. Only a few times where it's been slow. Tried a couple different dishes and have been satisfied. Tonight I had burrito California and was sad that they didn't top the burrito with anything other than cheese. Usually it'll come with lettuce, pico, quac, and sour cream. It was decent but sadly disappointed. Their cheese sauce isn't as tasty as most I've had. Their margaritas are good. Their frozen ones are much stronger than ones on the rocks. Will be back but hope for some yummier tastes. Decided to venture from my usual spot to check this one out. Definitely a big mistake took forever for the server to come to table. The salsa had no spice what so ever. My entree cam out ice cold and my relleno pepper was uncooked. Not to mention it took 10 mins for me to get my check after requesting it. The service was great here. Every time we go they are always really nice and friendly. The food is decent. I enjoy eating here, I asked for steak tacos with corn tortillas and they were good, but the steak was tough. They came with beans and pico de gallo, and the pico was great. My parents ordered the same thing and they were all made equally ok. The steak could have been more tender or even just larger pieces because it was chopped up so small my mom asked if I.t was ground beef. Their hot sauce, however, never disappoints and if you are a fan of hot sauce definitely try this one, so good. I don't give I.t 5 stars because sometimes I feel like it takes a long time to get food, and because I'm extremely picky when I.t comes to authentic tacos. Nic strip mall location. Good food in the TexMex tradition. I had the tamale lunch with rice and beans. My wife had the chili relleno lunch which included a taco and beans. All the dishes were tasty. I told my daughter that I'd give this place one mor chance, so we had a birthday and they suggested El Tapatio, I'm thinking bad idea, and I was right, my grand daughter made reservation for 25 people, we arrived, nothing set up, once we got seated, we had one server, took an hour to get drinks and order, another hour for the, and I would say food but, will say stuff, but that was all ok, I had a taco, 2 enchilada, rice and a bowl o Mexican chili, the ground beef is not seasoned at all,it's just ground beef and not good beef, almost had a sawdust taste, the enchilada wrap was very soggy, like they where made the night before, the rice none of us ate it no flavor, dry, just terrible, the chili, do yourself a favor don't do it. My daughter said afterwards, well it's cheap, and you get filled up, well I'm sorry but are your taste buds broken, she knew it was bad but did not want to admit it, there are at least 10 of us will never set foot in this place again? Some people in our family love it here. My first time there. Ordered a fajita chimichanga. It was drenched in white cheese sauce, also poured onto rice and beans and under cabbage. Cheese was not listed on the menu description. I am lactose intolerant and specifically picked that menu item because no cheese was listed When I told a waiter , he checked menu, and then nothing was done. He did not replace the food. And service overall lacking. In addition I watched another waiter place a meal on the wrong table. He then went back and got it. Not sure where to start. I've always came here for the Fajita Tropicana It's always been great. Until today. There was ZERO crab in my dish and when I questioned it, the waiter got the manager and he argued with me that it didn't come with crab meat. It absolutely does and I showed him on the menu so after my table of 5 got done eating their meal, my meal was finally served so I took took the entire meal to go which is a complete waste. There was a tiny dollop of cheese in the middle of the meal. I could have enjoyed a lot more for less than $13 at any other local Mexican Restaurant. Oh, and Tuesday is 15% day there. This place is effing creepy. The staff came across as awkward and weird when I visited with several young girls on my own. My other visits weren't any more positively memorable. There was nothing special about what they were serving. The restaurant itself is reminiscent of K-mart restaurant, circa 1982: the booths weren't even screwed down.
