Thank goodness first impressions aren't everything. Shortly after being seated, we were served the requisite chips and salsa. The chips were just ok but the salsa was pitiful. It tasted like someone opened a can of tomato sauce and poured it into a bowl. The "hot" salsa was no better - tomato sauce with a little hot sauce mixed in. Luckily things got better, much better. We order the burrito de carnitas to share. We were served an extra large burrito absolutely STUFFED with delicious, tender, juicy pork. The burrito was covered in a mild green sauce and served with a mound of lettuce, guacamole and red ripe tomatoes. I really could have eaten a little more but if we had had chips and salsa accompanying the burrito, it definitely would have been more than enough. The parking lot looked full but the restaurant is very large and we were seated immediately. Service was quick though not overly attentive. We stumbled upon El Acapulco by accident. I would go back for the burrito Dr carnitas but this time with no expectations for the chips and salsa. read more

This place really hit the spot when we came. We had come from a long day of hiking a few hours away and we were starving. We immediately started out with some chips and queso which were delicious. We all got our entrees and didn't really talk much we just focused on the food. The food was pretty tasty! The staff was also really nice and accommodating, especially since we had a couple of kids with us. Overall this is a very solid option in Etown when you're looking for some Mexican food with a chill atmosphere. read more

When we have a hankering for Mexican food, El Acapulco is one of our favorite places to go. My family staple entrée is the Chori Pollo. It's cheesy with a good helping of chicken and chorizo mixed with rice. It always made right and delicious. I venture off and tried something new. The Gallo Feliz was packing the heat. Chicken, pineapple and jalapeño with the seeds still intact grilled up and served with rice and guacamole salad/pico. The pineapple absorbed some of the heat from the jalapeño giving it a since sweet heat and the chicken was well seasoned. The jalapeño were just the right amount of heat. The rice and guacamole salad helped cool down along with the side of avocado slices. I definitely should have order some tortillas maybe next time. If you want to turn up the heat the server said they can make it with Serrano peppers as well. For me likely the jalapeño peppers were hot enough. read more

The only thing I liked was my skinny margarita. Otherwise, I thought the food was mediocre at best. I found a hair in my grilled chicken quesadilla. They did replace it with a shredded chicken quesadilla (I didn't complain that they fixed it... and messed up yet again). Restaurant looked busy but we were seated right away. We ordered the queso con carne. In our opinion, it was good but had way to much beef in it. My daughter and husband ordered the chimichangas and I ordered the steak fajitas. They said the chimichangas were good and my fajita was very good, steak was tender with lots of veggies. My husband ordered fried ice cream for dessert and me and my daughter wanted to share the fried cheesecake, which is called xango and comes with ice cream. We did not know the name of the fried cheesecake so we told waitress we wanted the fried cheesecake. She comes back with a regular slice of cheesecake. I said we wanted the fried cheesecake. She says we dont have fried cheesecake. I said yes you do its in a tortilla, she said oh well that's called xango. I said well you took menus so we didnt know the name of it. We said that's ok we will just eat this cheesecake but can we get a small dish of ice cream and a refill on my drink, She rolls her eyes and take a big huff of breath. I told her that, if that was to much trouble for her to just forget it. So she ended up not bringing ice cream not a refill. While the food is really good the service was horrendous. Ordered carry out from here last night. I was looking for the Mexican restaurant across the parking lot from the Kroger by Towne Mall and didnt realize until I pulled up there that it was a different name. I was trying to order from doordash but the menu on doordash must be messed up because the descriptions are either missing or have the wrong ingredients. I decided to just call in and pick up the food because I had a lot of questions and the hubby is very picky when trying new things. He wanted a steak and chicken burrito with no veggies of any kind, no sour cream or guacamole or anything creamy like that. Im not sure which menu item it would be because nothing matched that description but they were very accommodating and offered to put rice instead of vegetables inside. When we got home he opened the container and flipped out because there was queso all over the burrito but when I explained what it was he was ok because he likes queso. I ordered the chimichangas with shredded chicken. I was trying to ask if they were fried and crispy and I thought they said yes they're fried, but they were smothered in queso and I think red enchilada sauce so they weren't crispy. Whatever sauce it was, it was absolutely delicious! I was also expecting more ingredients inside like rice, beans, cheese, etc. but it was just the chicken. Still it was really good and I would definitely order that again. We also ordered queso dip, guacamole and the nachos supreme. The queso was good. When I asked for guac they said something about chunky guacamole and I didn't know there's more than one version. What I got was basically chopped up avocado, tomatoes, onions, cilantro and maybe lime juice. It's nothing like the creamy guacamole dip I was expecting and more like a pico de gallo with diced avocado. I think if you knew what you were ordering you would probably like it but I wanted something different than what I got. The nachos were pretty good. I'm used to nachos being different. I'm from Chicago and up north, every mexican restaurant puts cheese on top and melts it. Everywhere I have been in Kentucky they use queso instead of just cheese. These have queso sauce instead of melted cheese and were a little mushy at the bottom by the time we got everything home. The queso is good but it can run off and then its not as cheesy. We were able to use the extra chips and put everything on top of those and it was pretty good. I'm sure the nachos would be better if you dined in because it wouldn't have a chance to get soggy. The amount of sour cream and guac on the nachos is very generous but there's probably just a bit too much lettuce and tomato. The ground beef could use more seasoning and spices. If I ordered the nachos again I would pick a different meat. Overall the food was pretty tasty. As with most restaurants there are some things that are better than others. I would definitely order from here again. I think they could do a better job with the descriptions on the menu so you know what you're getting. Considering the pandemic, I assume many more people are opting for carry out and delivery than dining in and the lack of clarity on the menu can be frustrating for many people, especially those that have issues with dairy or gluten or are just plain picky. read more

Reviewing during a COVID world, so take it for what it is. We were promptly seated upon arriving and could tell that they were doing their best to keep up with COVID standards. However, we were not told that their menu is up on a wall where you have to go stand and look it over to see what you want. Talk about feeling stressed to hurry up and decided what you want to eat while several other people gather around you looking at the menu as well. It took them a while to get us drinks. Once we ordered food, it was ok, but not the best we've ever had. I was pleasantly surprised by their chicken soup as it brought back memories of my childhood. Everything Ran Smoothly from Start to Finish. Quick to Greet & Seat. Food came out within minutes. I only wish I could serve my dinner at home that fast! Never had to ask for drink refills and even brought us a To Go container without asking. Appreciated the discount they offered on a local Fundraising Card. My all time favorite Mexican restaurant! Dined here for lunch today and had the best fajitas, enchiladas, chips and salsa money can buy. I am a loyal customer and eat here weekly because not only is the food amazing, but so is the service! Whenever I am out of town for work or personal travel the first place I go when I return home is El Alcapulco. I have eaten at 50+ Mexican restaurants in California, Texas, Tennessee, Nevada, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, and even spent a week In Cancun Mexico and none was as good as my faithful Alcapulco! Romero and his team are fantastic and this is truly the best and most affordable Mexican place in my book. The food is a lot less greasy and higher quality than what you'll find at the other local places, though if you love good, fresh (free) tortilla chips & salsa, this place won't ring your bell. (I could really care less - I care more about the quality / preparation of what I actually order, but I understand that I'm probably alone on that.) Lots of items on the menu, from the typical to the typical with a few unexpected options. Their tortilla chips don't taste very good. Their salsa is either blah or too hot, and given how they serve it, it's not easy to mix your own heat level without making a mess. Decent lunch specials. It's not spectacular, but it's passable. The food is not bad, however the service was not great. The waiter cam buy and said "What to drink" no other greeting, but we ordered out drinks, and he ran off before I could even finish the word water and order a queso. Then we were handed salsa but no chips. The table seated after us got chips.The place was no where near busy, but had a few tables. Finally someone stops by and goes "would you like chips" after I was complaining to my friend for 10 or so minutes that we had no chips. Went to use the restroom since it didn't appear anyone was coming to take our order anytime soon, and saw a busser that worked there use the restroom and then walk out without washing her hands. Finally got chips and then our waiter came back. I ordered a queso to start and my meal. Our meal was delivered and still no queso, remember the people seated after us with the chips.... well they got their queso still before us. So we remind him again and finally get our queso with our meal. Then while I was eating my meal I took a pause to take my medication really quickly and the waiter showed back up and tried to take my plate of food away that I was still eating and still had an entire taco on it.
