Their sports complex is so small, they had 3 lanes open if I remember well, 2 were medium sized and one a bit larger. Only the 2 bigger lanes were being used for fast pitch Friday. They had about 20 girls participating, the parents were packed like sardines on the stairs and on the sides with the batters there was no room to walk, they have a second floor but you can't see anything unless your kids pitching. We weren't given instruction on how it would go. They throw in pitchers and catchers first, no adult was keeping count on how many at bats or ball count. The girls were guessing the ball counts/at bats. A few times the owner seemed to just switch out batters at random times and gave preference to his buddies kids. Batters pay more and batters get less time for reps.

In my son's backpack, I found a flier announcing the preservation of the City Park down on Louisiana and Sacramento. Come to find out, this park has been around since 1868 and is one of the oldest city parks in the Western United States. I used to live in this 'hood and this is one of two parks on LA that's nice to hang out and share a sack lunch with family and/or friends. The flier details extravagant plans for a 5-day build that will happen April 29 - May 3, 2009. The new park promises to have such cool things as a rock wall, tunnels, climbing walls, tree forts, bridges, and the traditional swings and monkey bars. Plus a whole lot more!! How EXCITING! Now that my son is getting older, I dont have much time, if any, to take advantage of it. But how wonderful for the up and coming kids of our community. No longer will we have to trek to BANISHA to the "cooler" parks they do tend to have. The best part about it is that all of us have an opportunity to be a part of it! We like to just bring our mats, drink and snacks and just chill at the grass area. The playground is not that big, but good enough size. They have a basketball court and a huge field of green!

Unfortunately, it isn't shaded but the Vallejo weather was beautiful. It is $6 cash per vehicle to enter and park. The reserved area was next to a top notch soccer field, playgrounds, and the restrooms. Minus one star for their restrooms because they didn't have toilet paper or soap. Thankfully my friend came prepared with a huge bottle of sanitizer and toilet paper but I feel that the gorgeous park and grounds deserve clean restrooms with the necessities. The grass is well kept and the park was very clean otherwise. There were several trash cans but no recycling bins.
