Same owner as Tropicana Cuban Restaurant across the street on Paramount Blvd. Used to visit them a few years ago, and stopped coming for the same reason. Dry chicken, not so clean. Today was no exception. If you're only serving chicken as a main dish, work on it till you get it right. If your main dish doesn't get you consistent 4 to 5 stars, make sure your staff is pleasant and that House Rules for cleanliness and personal hygiene are kept, work on it till you get it right. The lady at the counter was cleaning up at noon time. Don't they get there early to start the day fresh? Touching filthy equipment, money and food not a good combo. Scratching your face, nose and hair absolutely nasty. Critical food code violation. The other cooks and people behind the counter looked dishevelled and dirty. Not a good combo. The staff was working in and around a puddle of water as equipment was being moved around and counters were being used at the same time, while preparing food. This Los Pollos is located at a strip mall on the corner of Florence and Paramount in Downey. Parking is very tight. They had some deserts from their bakery across the street, however, were not fresh...more like, if they don't sell at the bakery they'll sell at Los Pollos. We got the chicken meal which came with hot & fresh tortillas, beans, rice, potato salad and the most delicious salsa. I am actually bummed I didn't request double the salsa because it was gone too quickly! The chicken was PERFECTLY cooked, perfect salty flavor on the skin, and the inside was MOIST! I came here the other night with my aunt, mom, and cousin. I ordered the enchilada combo for 7.99 which comes with two enchiladas, a salad, a drink, and two sides (I ordered macaroni salad and rice). The enchiladas were okay, I got grossed out to find a chicken bone in one of my enchiladas. The rice was okay as well, it was a little too dry for my liking. The macaroni salad was great!! We have been coming to Los Pollos for years. The chicken is fresh, moist, and delectable. Unlike, El Pollo Loco the chicken is rotisserie-We actually prefer over Costco. We are a big fan of the sides they offer: The spicy salsa is nice and tomatoey, the beans cooked perfectly, and tortillas always hot and soft. We usually always order the 2 whole chickens with the 2 sides at about $31 it is absolutely worth supporting this local eatery. Next time I am going to try the coconut cheesecake. My only feedback is the wait. There always seems to be some type of wait everytime we go, even when we call it in. read more

This is a place I would go to regularly. Never had an issue. Until today. I dropped by on my way home to pick up a Super Chicken Burrito. Came home, took two bites into my burrito. On my second bite, I bit into a big piece of chicken bone. I figured that was the end of it. Another bite, another piece of bone. Then another bite and again another bite of bone. I call them back to let them know and they asked me to bring the Burrito back and get another one. I told them i was kind of grossed out and want nachos instead. She said they were out of nachos. So they said they can replace the Burrito with one without bones in it. So I take the Burrito back to them, a girl that works there shows it to a lady that works there as well, and says (in Spanish) "Here...so you can see it." They then tell me they'll make me a new burrito. And that's that. Even though I had to go through the hassle to drive back, they offered nothing to compensate the inconvenience. I return home, open my burrito, take a couple bites...and another little piece of bone. I think this will be the last time I ever go there. This was a place I would highly recommend to people often. But this experience has really jaded me. I didn't even bother to call them back. What for? So I can waste more of my gas to pick up a burrito they messed up for a 2nd time? Hands down best hole in the wall chicken spot I've ever had. If I didn't have a friend bring me here I don't think I would thought to stop it. Located in the corner of a little shopping center next to Baskin Robbins. Parking spots are tight, but haven't had an issue finding space. I usually stop in during lunch and it's never too crowded. I wouldn't recommend if your party is 2 or more. The 2 piece rotisserie chicken plate is all you need. Very filling and like their motto, flavor to the bone! Guaranteed. The restaurant setup could be redesigned to accommodate customers more comfortably and they slightly raised the price, but not enough to keep me away. This chicken is always delicious but the employees are always so rude and inaccurate with their timing. I always call my order in so that I don't waste time. Yesterday I called my order in and the employee said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I picked up 20 minutes later, and when I arrived, I still had to wait 10 minutes for my order. Also, whoever takes the order over the phone assumes you know the entire menu and gets frustrated when you ask a question. My search of the OMG chicken continues and I'm please to say that it has gotten a little closer. Growing up in the SGV we frequented Juan Pollo which was amazing definitely OMG potential. So for those of you who are from the SGV and know Juan Pollos, Los Pollos is very very similar it. The chicken is juicy (hate dry chicken specially the breast since it's the only thing I eat). But holy poppers Batman the best part is the skin. If they had a skin only special I'd order about 5 of them! Yeah the skin is that good. It has just a tiny bit of sweetness, it's soft but not chewy and quite frankly better than the meat. Los Pollos has a number of combinations you can order from which are all reasonably priced; including a full chicken with two sides just under $20's. The side on their own are average, nothing spectacular but you come to Los Pollos for just that the pollo's not the sides. I don't know if it's a seasonal item but while I was there they had atole (which is a Mexican corn based drink....kinda like watered down oatmeal without the lumps but better tasting). I got a cup and it was a bit too sweet and there were corn kernels in it which made it more of a soup than an actual drink. It was OK but I prefer not to have chunks or corn in my atole, I prefer a nice thick smooth drink....this wasn't it. I wasn't familiar with this location and it was a bit hard to spot. It's located on the corner of Florence and Paramount in Downey, behind the Walgreen's and next to the Baskin Robins. Word of advice you may want to call in your order if you are familiar with their menu. Depending on when and what time you go, you can be looking at a 30-45minute wait. On the negative side if you're like me an bored easily you will want to bring something to entertain yourself with. But on a positive note your chicken is warm and juice when you do get it. Rice When I compare this rice to other Spanish-speaking chicken places, it rises to the top, far and beyond. Right size, amount of flavor, softness, right on. Beans They were ok to me, but my a Native mexican male loved them. tortillas, they were ok. I had the corn tortillas. what else they had... I did not get the cheesecake, flan, jamaica, watermelon juice, and other sides like potatoe salad. They also had quesadillas, enchilladas, burritos, tostadas and more sides. If you want Bold, Hot and pure beauty, find a Mexicana, but if your too chicken, kick back and have some chicken. Great chicken, great salsa, deliciously different cole slaw with pineapple, better rice than most chicken places, but not quite as good as most better Mex restaurants. The staff's english is mediocre, but you're here for chicken and sides, so you should be able to get your order across with out too much difficulty, even if u dont know ANY espanol. Dining room is small, cramped, noisy, and when busy, extremely warm, stuffy. Do urself a favor; order it to go. Do yourself another favor, order by phone, give it an extra 5 to 10 minutes on top of whatever they tell you before you show up (and plan on being put on hold for 3-5 minutes between the time they order, and the time they finally take ur order) , and be prepared to struggle with parking at "peak" lunch or dinner times. Good stuff. Try it. But don't dine in. Oh, and say goodbye to El Pollo loco, cuz you won't be back there, after Los Pollos. read more

This place used to be amazing. It was lick your fingers good. I have been coming here since I was in my mamas womb. This place has gotten worse and worse in quality and service over the years. Service is inconsistent, it really depends on who is at the register, there is a certain lady who has been there for years and is rude 8 out of 10 times. I was a restaurant manager and a waitress many years ago so this particular lady really triggers me when she acts like she owns the place and you are beneath her. On to the food... the size of the chicken has gone down about 25%. These things are Itty bitty at times. Its probably just my American mentality of bigger is better, but it gets worse. The chicken has gotten dryer and dryer over the past four years. I am not sure what happened, i don't know if its lack of effort but I am thinking perhaps its the fact that they may be understaffed. Resulting in the kitchen workers trying to do everything super fast, therefore making the quality of the food mediocre. The tortillas are tossed in a bag and heated in the microwave.. its gross. Sometimes they are half cold on one side, half crumbling apart on the other. The reason for my update is because of the potato salad. When the whole place was falling apart their holy grail kept me coming... I mean the potato salad is delicious. But all good things must come to an end.. its been three visits in which the salad tastes slightly spoiled. I know the taste well... it tastes like it hasn't been refrigerated properly. Once again an assumption, I think they are leaving the station fridge open due to the many orders causing it to slightly spoil due to the heat. I've moved pretty far from this place, and it's nothing I'm willing to drive to anymore. I will now be going to literally any Juan Pollo around. This restaurant has a good amount of regular customers, perhaps add an extra kitchen worker with a good work ethic or reward and motivate your current employees. Decided to pick up dinner after reading some reviews on yelp - now my husband and I are fans! They have pretty good deals with family combos. We had the #3 with a chicken and 2 med sides - it was more than enough and we had plenty of leftovers. Our two sides were potato salad & rice - which were very delicious selections. Well ... they were cleaning already and surprise surprise ... they ran out of chicken. Mind you that this is about the 3rd time this happens even though in previous times I did go in around 8:45. I understand everyone is impatient to go home however it is half an hour before closing and given chicken is the main thing they sell ...
