I was pleasantly surprised. I had a coupon for a free 12 oz margarita, which was pretty good, and I ordered the steak diablo, the name impying that it's supposed to be kinda hot. But I knew that it would only be hot by Iowa standards, which, by my standards having lived in the West and Southwest, is not very hot at all. LOL Neverttheless, it was tasty, the chips were real good compared to most places (they were thick and warm), the service was great, and the price was not only okay for today's menus, but they offer a discount for cash instead of card, which I like. Not bad. Restaurant gives me the feeling it was pirate themed at one point with some of the decor and paint colors chosen. Overall service was very good. Portions are generous. Waiters/waitresses are attentive, bring chips and salsa if you choose to dine in. Food was a bit on the greasy side, but good value for price. Seeing drink specials advertised all over the place, I imagine this place gets busy during happy hour. We tried the fajitas, a wet burrito, and some fish tacos. As I mentioned price point was very good for how much food you're getting. The fish tacos were pretty minimal, a bit greasy but I enjoyed them with the green and brown salsas. Fajitas were huge. Easily could've split between two or three people. Lastly, the burrito was pretty big as well. In general, I'm not particularly a fan of "wet" style burritos, but wife was satisfied with it. I've been to Los Portales a couple of times now since I moved to the QC area. The environment is very beautiful. The colors are vibrant and the music is on point. Everyone is nice and friendly. I've tried their shrimp fajitas, which were delicious. This last time I went I had garlic shrimp and it was lacking flavor, it seemed as though they sauteed the shrimp and threw minced garlic all over them, it was very sad to see my plate when it was brought, I would suggest that at least simmer down the garlic so it doesn't look like minced garlic was just poured over the shrimp. I did however have a delicious michelada, I will go back and try a different plate. I have not given up on the place just yet. read more

Wish I would have read how bad this place was and saved me the aggravation! Can I give it negative 5 stars? Mexican guacamole shouldn't be 3 parts sour cream - 1 part over blended guac. Garbage !!! Food was average at best. Flan dessert was good as was the service. A double cocktail should not be a 10oz drink for the additional charge. I have been to this restaurant two other times and had decent lunches. We have not been here for over a year and today was extremely disappointing. The wait staff is polite and they are fast. The atmosphere is very colorful and pretty. My husband ordered tacos and I ordered Chimi salad. My husband's taco meat had absolutely no flavor. It tasted more like made right meat. They took flour tortillas and deep-fried them for the shells. There was lots of cheese sour cream lettuce and tomato on the tacos but overall the flavor was just not there. My husband ate two of them and said it was not worth the calories to even eat the third one. Very unusual for him! My Chimi salad was also pretty lackluster.The tortillas were chewy and gummy. The chicken was dry and flavorless. Very disappointing I don't think we'll be back there are too many great places in the Quad Cities for Mexican food.. read more

The food was decent. If you've ever been to Azteca, a local chain, then you've been here, the food is nearly identical. That being said, the service my party and I got here was ridiculously bad. Every item I ordered was done incorrectly, it's like the waiter was purposefully not listening to what I said. And this was not my experience alone, other members of my party received incorrect items as well. Never had this issue at an Azteca. I am currently at Los Portales, and i am upset and disappointed with the service provided by our waitress. It took her 20 minutes to even ask us for our order.. but when she did we ordered our regular margaritas, minutes later she comes back and says "there was an incident and we can not serve alcohol tonight" then proceeded to serve everyone around us. she was extremely rude and disrespectful. This is one of my friend group's favorite places to go. We are here almost once a week. Food is great and service is usually pretty good. There is never a wait to get seated because the restaurant staff is so efficient. It is always decorated for holidays and when there aren't holidays it is still just as decorative. Owner is super nice, and it seems like a nice family ran business. The owner always greets everyone in such a friendly way and always has a smile on his face. Food is never cold and is out very fast. Margaritas are also great, there is a good amount of flavor options as well. The staff always makes sure you are doing okay; I've rarely had a server that isn't always checking up on our table. Los Portales 2, Davenport, IA: We ordered for take out at Los Portales 2. Food was to be ready in 15 minutes. The bag was ready to go when my son arrived. At home my Enchiladas Cozumel were not as described in the menu, but I didn't want to make a fuss. Well, eventually I had to... Not only that it was topped with guacamole, sour cream and tomatoes, it was filled with imitation crab. (My stomach is pretty much screwed since pain meds after TKR) So my son called and they said they'll make a new one, ready in 15 minutes. He dove there grabbed the bag and called me from the car. I asked him to check and it was again smothered with guacamole, sour cream and tomatoes. He went back in, they said they'll fix it. The fix was a container with grilled bell peppers and onions, the enchiladas still were the same. So I scraped of the red white and green, but it had already flavored the, this time correct, chicken enchiladas, and they were cold when they arrived here at home. I was in no mood anymore to call and send my son on a third trip out! We ate there twice before corona hit. Although I'm pretty sure that I already once there didn't get what I ordered, at that time it was edible, I didn't complain. I am a big fan of Azteca and Los Portales, especially their margaritas! I didn't have a very good experience today. My daughter was in town from Chicago and one of my sons were available for lunch. With this weather we decided on margaritas! They must have been VERY busy today? We ordered margaritas right away. We didn't receive our chips and salsa until long after our drinks were delivered. (Rare). We finally placed our order and our waiter took the order of the booth across from us right after. The booth across from us was done eating by the time we got our food. When we got our food, (3 of 4 of us anyway) two of the three were cold. I sent my back and my son ate his tacos but not his beans and rice. My wife received the wrong order. Shortly after they brought the last two plates. Mine was simply micro waved but my wife's was good, aside from the lettuce and tomato she had asked to leave off. Which I used because mine was extremely soggy from being micro waved. Did I mention that we asked for the hot salsa four times before they brought it out? We have eaten here numerous times and normally we are very pleased. Not sure what the deal was today? read more

Davenport and the Quad Cities have a lot of choices when it comes to Mexican food. Some are fantastic, some are awful, some just kind of fall somewhere in between and are not notable for anything in particular. I'm afraid Los Portales falls into the latter category. In an already very competitive market, Los Portales really doesn't add anything new. The menu reminds me very much of the Azteca restaurants as does their salsa. When my wife and I ate there this weekend, I ordered the poblano enchiladas and she ordered shrimp tacos. Her reaction was "meh". My enchiladas were fairly mediocre chicken enchiladas covered in what appeared to be a brown gravy that you would expect more to be covering mashed potatoes than anything else. It didn't taste "bad", but I wouldn't order it again. The service was ok. I did recognize one of the servers (maybe the manager) from the old Jalapeno's and Azteca crew. The only thing that stood out about the restaurant was the building itself. They've done a very good job restoring a restaurant building that has been shuttered for quite a while. There just isn't anything here that would make us want to go back. I would rather spend my money at Habanero's or Los Rancheritas. read more

The portions are very large so expect to need a box, so that's a plus. My dad ordered the carnitas and it was a huge portion but only had 3-4 tortillas which was a disconnect. I ordered the lunch steak fajitas which came with 3 tortillas, steak, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, grilled onions and peppers, rice, and re-fried beans. I couldn't finish everything. After a while I ordered some coffee and sat and did some work on my computer. The bill was less than $10.00. Serious. The service was awesome....10x the service I received at Chillies the day before. This place is dirty Glasses, bathrooms, the entrance, the carpet were dirty it needs a good scrub. The food was horrible!!! The rice had no flavor and not cook well. I keep ordering the #27, which is taco, chalupa, and rice & beans. Everything is great except I have yet to get the chalupa. I get a tostaguac Everytime. No matter what. Don't get me wrong. I like them, but all I want is to try their dang chalupa. I have even went as far as reposting what is in a #27 is verbatim per the menu. Very disappointed in the quality of food and the unconcerned attitude of our waiter when we mentioned our dissatisfaction. He said ok, thank you and walked away. Reality was we got under-cooked bacon in a breakfast burrito and tortillas that were literally like rubber. Simply said - terrible food.
