    View of 5th Avenue

We stopped at Los Rancheros due to the fun looking rooftop atmosphere in PDC(5th Avenue). It also gave us rest from all of the street vendors and allowed us to peer down and get some entertainment with watching other unsuspecting tourists get mobbed on 5th Avenue, ha! Overall we would give this place 3 out Of 5 stars. Pros: Cool ambience- rooftop, with a good view of 5th ave. Great guacamole(prepared table side) with generous portion size. Great pico, onions, and green salsa Decent coronaritas(large portion size, albeit somewhat bland) Great beans and rice(this was our favorite food portion of the menu besides the guacamole (huge portion) We were full before dinner got to us Cons: Dinner took FOREVER(at least 30 min after we finished the beans and rice) and the place was not very busy Cheese enchiladas - small portion size. I could have eaten 3 plates of these if not for eating a ton of guac/beans. A total of 3 of small enchiladas on the plate along with Green Sauce which was subpar- medium temperature, tart, was not a fan. Came with small amount of beans and rice. My wife ordered Soft shell corn tacos (4 of them)- not on menu(what?!) had to special request them. came with beef(NOT carne Asada-they didn't offer CA- again what?!) Beef tasted very "cowy/gamey" according to my wife. Disappointed. Came time for the check. Whip out the credit card.... and "oh I'm sorry we don't take credit card" said the waiter. "Well that's all we have", we replied. "Ok let me see if we can run the card." He responded. Came back a few min later, "luckily it worked but I couldn't add a tip" So we gave him just a few dollars which is all we had on us for cash. He then made a snarky comment about it being 6% tip. Well had we known ahead of time that you "don't take credit cards" and "that you couldn't add a tip to our bill" we wouldn't have stopped. Lesson learned- make sure they "take credit cards and can add the tip for you." Go someplace else for good Mexican food with less hassle.

Amazing food and service with an even better Mariachi band! The shrimp fajitas were the best I've had. Will definitely be back!

Stay away - bad service, terrible food and some guy screaming into a microphone trying to sing.

The enchiladas were delicious and accompanied by black beans. This restaurant has a large juice bar so try a fruit juice or smoothie. This place may be more known for their fresh juices but the food menu had a decent spread of choices. What I found to be unique was the bread they use for the tortas. I forgot to ask the server but I believe it was Cemita style bread. The torta did lack the appropriate amount of met I feel. If you are going to serve a sandwich this big, don't make the bite have more bread than meat per ratio. The flavor was good though just wish it had more met in it. For the price they charge I was a bit let down. That is the other thing guys, for some reason the price of this establishment could rival a lot of places in the US so don't assume you will have more cost effective eats as you may find some places are close American pricing. Most likely because of the tourism in the region but I bet you can find the same or similar sandwich on a street stall for about 30-40% less and just as good. Be careful with the green habanero salsa too btw. It is very very very spicy

I had someone give me a tip to try this place, very local Mayan cuisine. Its a small whole in the wall place with tables out front and usually only one server, which means long waits. They serve up some basic items, tostadas, empanadas, and soup. I got to try both the tostadas and empanadas. They were both very delicious. The chicken was moist and seasoned correctly. The bit of avocado they out on to makes it taste fresh. All the tortillas are made fresh to order and taste amazing. I did not get to try the soup, but I noticed a lot of people around me were eating it, so it must have also been really good. The hot sauce on the table is located in nameless red and yellow squeeze containers, made for ketchup and musturd I suppose. One contains a mild red sauce and the other is a very spicy green sauce that made my eyes water, but it was worth it. For drinks they serve only sodas and agua frescas. I got a horchata, and it was perfectly cinnamon tasting. I highly advise this place, because the food is great, my server didn't speak English but was very pleasant. They have both menus in English and Spanish. Also, did I mention the food is absolutely dirt cheap? My whole meal was like seven USD (70 pesos). I got a drink and four items along with chips. What a deal.

The service is quick, the prices are incredibly reasonable, and the food is consistently delicious. Before your meal even arrives, you're served a plate of fresh radishes, cucumber, and lime wedges, plus a selection of toppings including tomatoes, onions, and both a green and red salsa. Unfortunately this location didn't give us the cactus like the other locations did. The red salsa was my favourite, it paired perfectly with the tacos and had just the right amount of heat and flavour. The standout for me was the al pastor taco. The meat was incredibly flavourful with crispy edges, a smoky char, and the perfect balance of savoury spice and sweet pineapple. It was easily one of the best al pastor tacos I had in Playa del Carmen. I also tried the sirloin taco and the chicken breast plate, both of which were excellent. The portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and the quality was impressive, especially for the price. El Fogón absolutely lived up to the hype. If you're looking for authentic, delicious tacos and grilled meats that won't break the bank, this is a must visit. I loved it so much that I ended up eating at all three locations and every visit was just as good as the last.
