A really chill place for coffee
    Frank P.

I really like coming here to chill. Its so peaceful. Having a beverage at the patio of Hidden House Coffee is so relaxing. I wish when I retire I could live in one of the little houses on the street.

The Historic Los Rios District is so charming and quaint. Lots of small shops to visit. From candles, artists, tea shop, and a Veteran owned coffee shop! Lots of restaurants to eat at and plenty of sweet Knick knacks to purchase. They also have the Mission San Juan Capistrano in the area. If you're window shopping and walking the town, it's an amazing new. This is a great place to take friends & family who are visiting Southern California. It's a short drive from San Diego. It's a really great day trip. And if you can take the train down to avoid all the crazy traffic

This area is extremely relaxing place to walk around, shop the store and enjoy the food. I came on September 8 2025 on a Monday and this area was not crowded. We walked over to the mission which is closed on Mondays. Walking on Los Rios St is so cool. There are wonderful gift shops and restaurants. Coffee lovers there is a coffeehouse and a tea house for the tea enthusiast. I recommend trying the bourbon street vanilla tea! I enjoyed the great gift shops.

Cutest area in San Juan Capistrano next to the train tracks. Specialty stores and restaurants located in historic adobes. Very peaceful and enjoyable

Charming historic place, can't believed it's the oldest street in CA dated back to 1700. Lovely flower line street air of time stand still. We found an old peppercorn tree circa 1800, hug it...the tree energy is amazing! So much to see and do and we only had a few hours so next time we will plan to visit t the tea house and spend some time exploring more.

This is a small historical neighborhood said to be one of the oldest in California (THE oldest in Orange County?). The Los Rios Street is about 600 feet long, from Mission Street to Del Obispo Street, and 3 out of the 40 adobe homes still stand as originally built from 1749 by Indian neophytes. Other homes and structures were built between 1887 and 1910, and others after 1920. My family and I were here to have breakfast nearby, and decided to stroll around from Verdugo Street, right near the SJC train station. Once I stepped off the cul-de-sac, it felt like I slipped back in time. From a street clock to an old wooden sign, a cottage with wagon wheels and a wooden water tower, it felt like I needed to change into a prairie dress with lace boots and a bonnet, lol. We didn't explore the entire district, but went down Los Rios Street a little, as well as River Street. River Street was a dirt road with a petting zoo and a marketplace with restaurants and stores. As much as I enjoyed seeing old homes and structures, it was limited to certain areas as most of the neighborhood consist of privately owned homes. So it was definitely worth seeing if nearby, but we only took about an hour walking around; maybe max 2-3 hours if eating and browsing the tea houses and/or stores.

What a charming little site!! Los Rios Historic District is located in the beautiful city of San Juan Capistrano and Los Rios is known to be one of the oldest neighborhoods in the state of California! Just behind the train tracks is the Los Rios Historic District. You can get here by train (Metrolink stops right at this site), by bike, by feet, or by car. There are plenty of paid parking across the tracks or free street parking along Camino Capistrano. Here you'll find: - Old Mr. Tree (circa 1800) - The Tea House on Los Rios - Ramos House Cafe - And other businesses! The street is not paved so wear comfortable shoes when walking here. Overall, a picturesque spot for the Spring and Summer months!

This is a magical district where you can go back in time. They have a petting zoo and they have cute little stores and a coffee place with Wi-Fi and an adorable tea house

Highly recommend the Los Rios district if you want a quick get away. I felt like I was in Mexico, there were so many beautiful flowers and cactus along the walk. I reccomend coming here with some friends and plan a meal, then walk your calories off down several of the streets. The streets are filled with tea booths, art collaborations, cafes, and even a small ranch for kids. Bring a camera too and take pictures in one of the several garden areas.

I love going to Los Rios Historic District. It's nice to stroll around this area and a lot of places to stop by. I've come here a handful of times for various reasons. I've taken a stroll with the doggo and stopped by Hidden House Coffee before. It's the perfect pick me up and they have dog bowls for a water break. I've also gone to The Tea House on Los Rios, very cute restaurant for high tea. There is a free Los Rios Parking lot. I also sometimes park at the Los Rios Park, they have a free parking lot. Then I walk over from there. This street is very cute and feels very relaxing.

Charming, charming, charming! The small butterfly garden was a treat! Many old cacti. The wall has a few plaques with the history of the district. My favorite were the cottages. The merch is unlike any I have seen!! You'll be pleasantly surprised with the tea house. There is also a coffee house for the coffee drinkers.

Signage welcomes you upon crossing the train tracks

My husband and I love to walk down this street when we are in SJC. It's a charming peaceful street with lots of history. We only wish there was more of it. They are in the process of expanding this area with a few more restaurants and shops while keeping the historic integrity and feel. Looking forward to seeing the finished project due to be completed the end of this year.

When getting the tickets, the lady helping us was so nice! We got our audio tour and started along the way. It really was beautiful and full of history! It's as old as the country! The audio tour and plaques along the way provided a lot of information and we spent at least 2 hours here wandering around and taking everything in, you could easily spend more time than that here. Beautiful grounds and it was amazing to see the original and uncovered structures that existed so long ago. You end up at the gift shop at the end and we left with a postcard and a magnet for home. Very reasonable prices in there and some cute things! Overall we had an amazing time and would love to visit other missions. Give this one a go!

As soon as you enter you will see a gorgeous garden and remnants of The Great Stone Church, which was destroyed by earthquake in 1812. I also liked Serra Chapel, which is the oldest building in California that's still in use, based on online search. I felt at peace just sitting inside the chapel for few minutes. Current admission fee is $19 for adults and $11 for youth (5-17) years of age). Admission fee includes a self-guided audio tour but the device was kind of difficult to hear. There isn't a designated parking lot for the Mission but there are few public parking lots near the area. I was here on a weekday so was able to find street parking along Camino Capistrano. Most of the street parking is limited to 5 hours. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance so it's a great location. You will definitely smell BBQ smoke coming from Heritage BBQ restaurant across the street.

Regardless, the free entry automatically made the visit a great value. This is a small museum (and even smaller now due to unfortunate damage caused by landslides in recent years) with a gorgeous interior, a vibrant garden, and regal ocean views. The interior includes many collected works of fine art that betray quite good taste, something to be attributed to the provenance of the home. I liked that because it was during the winter holiday season, the house was decorated accordingly; I wonder what the house looks like during other times of year! I am not sure how involved the museum docents are meant to be, but they appeared happy to show us around and give further explanation on some details of the house. Important note: public restrooms are available, and also there are even functional in-situ bathrooms. Using one made me feel like I was a proper guest to the home. This will probably be a good time for the whole family, if art and culture is something yours values. I'm bringing my mother on my next visit, hopefully on another free day.
