This review is for dinner . We have been to Cozumel 7 times . Always enjoyed most of the local options. Visited El Palomar for dinner on this trip after a recommendation from some local friends. El Palomar is located a little north of the ferry dock on the main drag. Directly across from the Jaques Cousteau statue. The building is a charming renovated 100 year old building (very well done). We had drinks on the veranda overlooking the sea at sunset. Margarita was the best I have had in Cozumel and the view of the sunset from the veranda was great. We retired into the main restaurant for dinner . The food was on point. My wife had the grilled Mahi And I had the skirt steak. Both cooked just right and served with a side of salad,mixed veggies and potato. The service was professional and unhurried. Wine selection also very good. Price was very reasonable for this nice of a place. This was probably the best experience at a restaurant that we have had in Cozumel. read more

It sounds like they in a soft opening phase, but have been open for a while. Gave it a try and was not impressed. The service was ok, but nothing great. The bar tender did not know how to make a Long Island Ice Tea which is on their drink menu and a pretty common drink. The place was empty at 8pm on a Saturday night. The 3 mushroom pasta needed some work. Not really a sauce as much as finely chopped mushrooms. It made for a dry dish, but good flavor. The Rigatoni Picatta was a decent dish. Good flavor and cooked properly. Things like bread without butter, no offer of parmesan cheese with the pasta, and other small details are lacking. Also, just bad drinks. The ambiance on the patio is nice, but could use music. The building in lovely. They just have a lot of bugs that need to quickly be worked out. I hope they get things sorted out. read more

BEWARE!!!! Be sure and know what the exchange rate is before you go in. Then verify that exchange rate with the staff when you get there. If it doesn't match, leave!!! We knew the exchange rate was 18 when we got there. But we didn't confirm it with the restaurant. When we got the bill, they had used an exchange rate of 16, meaning our bill was more than $20 than it should have been. We challenged them re: the rate. They argued that different places have different rates. Since we had already eaten we paid the bill. But we'll NEVER go back there again! read more

I saved my 1,200th milestone review for the best Mexican food I ever had which is located in Cozumel Mexico! Which is an extreme contrast of the Mexican restaurant which was my first review! This restaurant is located in the oldest home on the island dating back to 1903. Definitely a find to come here and I share this secret place with my fellow Yelpers. The food is nothing short of amazing. I strongly suggest to follow all the suggestions on what to eat. The highly skilled chef will have you leaving here wondering when you can come back. My favorites were the fresh fish, avocado(aka native to Mexico) as well as all the special and spicy ingredients. It was so relaxing to have a business meeting here while looking outdoors on the beautiful gardens. After lunch we had drinks out front while looking at the beautiful ocean. After our last years visit with less than stellar service, we were invited back by Chef Paola Torroella, executive chef and general manager to "make it right". Again, making a reservation through Chef Paola, when we arrived there was a huge party taking place, when I told the hostess we had reservation, no one had a clue. I asked for Chef Paola there and after our greeting, all seemed OK. We were able to get one of the last tables for 4 in the front room with a beautiful view of the patio and waterfront. We were a party of 4, starting off with Margaritas (BTW great Margaritas). The food ordered was the Beef Carpaccio, Chicken with Rosemary and Potatoes, Pork Belly Tacos, Fried Fish Tacos and the Shrimp Mezcal Tacos. I think the food is delicious, Atmosphere is a beautiful old renovated home and service was much improved since the last time we were here. read more

We got iced lattes which were very good and French toast. The atmosphere was relaxing being by the ocean and they had fans to keep you cool. Beautiful location and exquisite Mexican food! We had the lobster tacos shrimp tacos and pork belly tacos, all were amazing my favorite was the pork belly tacos!!! Also we asked for them to make us a queso fundido, which wasn't on the menu, and they happily obliged, and it was to die for! Also don't forget to try the potatoes with peanut, so delicious! My husband had the tuna dish on the appetizer menu, he says it was incredible. Overall we had a great experience dinning at El Palomar. This was our first time dining out in the city center and the food and ambiance was on point! From the amazing colonial / Caribbean architect to its lively vibes this place is a must try if you are in Conzumel. The service was 10 out of 10. Ivan, our waiter was so kind, attentive and helpful with such amazing recommendations. We had a minor dilemma because we wanted to try lobster but also craving fish. We asked what the catch of the day (which is off the menu) and he recommended the "spicy snapper". He then suggested we try both! Two lobster tacos ( they were delicious) and the fish / spicy snapper-which was sooooo delicious, savory and moist / juicy (#flavorful af)! All in all, I highly recommend this place. Upon finishing up, the owner, Paola came up to our table and introduced herself, asked if it was our first time visiting, and since it was she gave us free (top self) tequila shots! The experience here was a really mixed bag. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar around 6:30 and were able to enjoy the sea view while we had some cocktails. After dark, the atmosphere seems to switch into factory mode and service became quite spotty. While our guacamole came out in a timely manner, my boyfriends tostadas came out after a while and was finished long before my lobster tacos came out. By this time my appetite was almost gone which was a blessing I suppose as the tacos were more on the scale of an amuse buche. The lobster was unidentifiable and completely overpowered by the aioli and hard char. The tortillas were delicious though. The shrimp and fish tostadas were average at best. Adding the salsa that came with the chips was definitely needed in order to add some moisture and acid. We may try again but won't rush back. On an unrelated note, the bartenders all had a strange procedure of holding the orders in their mouths while mixing drinks. Slightly unhygienic? I smudged the faces of at 3 bartenders... read more

Service could use improvement. There was bird poop on our outside table and our server reluctantly and half-assedly cleaned it after asking for it to be cleaned. (Yuck!) The food is mediocre at best and their exchange rate is the lowest. Personally I think one's money is best spent elsewhere. Vegan friendly. Clean and modern. Lengthy menu with several veggie dairy free options. Service took a while but we were also in no rush and enjoying the day off of our cruise ship. The appetizer with pineapple yellow pepper and coconut had excellent flavors and was something new to me. I've had a bad experience at another restaurant in Cozumel so we we're quite happy to find clean fresh vegan options. The chips weren't my favorite style but the guacamole was good and the sauces excellent. We had to wait for a little while for the food to come out but MAN was it worth the wait! Enjoyed a mezcalina which had a spicy and salty rim on a not too sweet but fruity mezcal cocktail. Everything we ate was outstanding: Tortas cochinita pibil were my favorite Ceviche verde agridulce was actually slightly warm, interesting spices; excellent fried plantains on the side. Black bean soup came with lots of little toppings on the side. Very delicious! Papas Bravas was a nice, spicy potato salad of sorts The menu is really big, including vegan options! Sweet place to stop in and grab a drink. We didn't try the food because we didn't have enough time. The space is nice with colorful paintings and has a nice view of the ocean if you want to watch the sunset. It's also a great place to people watch since in on a main strip. Had a wonderful dinner there on the day of the Ironman race! Food, drinks, and service were amazing. Cynthia was our attentive, kind, and patient waitress. We had Empanadas, fish tacos, pork belly, tostadas, and guacamole! I'm sure I'm forgetting some things but it was all delicious! Our only "negative" was the timing of the food coming out and the loud music in competition with the restaurant next door. Will 100% be coming back for dinner and amazing drinks! Must see! read more

So Yelp is obviously an American thing and even more so a California widely used concept, but here are my thoughts on this bar/ restaurant that I stumbled upon. Drinks are great. (Coming from a fellow bartender). The set up of the bar and the atmosphere of this house turned bar built in the 1900s is stellar. It's a photographers dream. From the turquoise paint to the art/ gallery type decor on the walls, it is amazing!!! Luiis the day bartender was sooooo friendly and gracious. He showed us around on a tour of the premises and also let us sample liqueurs hecho en Mexico... All the employees are friendly and knowledgable of their Island as well as foods and liquors. There is indoor as well as outdoor seating!!! We initially sat outside on the tall bar stools looking into the bar and when the rain came moved inside. Tried their super delicious cocktails on a windy night in Cozumel. El Palomar is a paradise when all you want to do is to run away from the cold wind and chill. We bumped into the owner, who treated us with tequilas on the house. Then the Mariachi band came out of nowhere and gave an amazing performance. We went there because of all the rave reviews we saw on Yelp, but the place was disappointing. We ordered a margarita, baked potato, corn with coriander and butter and black bean soup. The corn was hard to chew and we have had better ones from street vendors in other parts of Mexico. The soup had no flavor and the margarita was just ok.
