In an effort to be positive about my experience here, I will say that the service was good - not overly friendly, but prompt and efficient for a group of six. That is all I can come up with. The food was very bland and tasted untouched by seasoning of any kind. How does Mexican food have no flavor? The real reason for the two star review - the ladies room was completely out of soap. The restaurant was not busy at 2 pm and the soap dispensers remained unfilled, even though we told the staff about it right when we got there. If the restrooms in a restaurant do not have any soap, I do not want to think about the kitchen cleanliness and hygiene. read more

Hey this is a really solid Mexican spot in what's basically a food swamp of nothing but bar food in downtown Chelsea. Moderately priced, and noticeably well done Mexican food. For example the Birria wasn't dry, you can tell they used proper, varied cuts of beef to ensure juiciness (good fat content). The refried beans didn't have a canned brine taste, more-so beef/pork broth and delicately flavored. The menu is mostly gringo classic American Mexican, but that's because we're in Michigan, so all of the classics are there. I like the setting in a historical building. It has a great variety of options to pick from in many categories. My friend had the quesaburrias and I had a quite filling burrito. Firstly, let me say that the service was fantastic, and that the staff were doing everything they could to stay on top of things while obviously understaffed. Our drinks were refilled and we felt taken care of. We hadn't been to this location in about a year, maybe a year and a half, so my kids and I decided to come back. In an effort to not drag this out, I'll sum up - prices were greatly increased, portions were significantly decreased, and quality was also decreased. The food was still good, mind you. But it tasted more like an Applebee's trying to make Mexican food than the goodness we've come to expect from Los Tres Amigos. Coming here has definitely crossed the line from "good food for a reasonable price" to "not really worth it." Fingers crossed they reverse course soon. read more

They have a sign saying to be patient with them because they are short of service staff. The server we got was very nice and we really didn't have to wait too long. The food was very good. I am a fan for dine-in, not take out. Had lunch there today. The staff are masked up, and the seating is well spaced. Their menus are online, so bring your phone and scan the QR code at the table. Great idea and works well. Service is a bit slow, but very nice and as attentive as he can be. He stood a bit away from my table to take my order, which was appreciated. He returned with a new drink when mine was empty. Cannot complain - service was great. Food was hot and fresh. It is not hot and fresh for take out. It cools off too fast in transit and reheating just isn't the same. Lunch menu and full menus are available. Still happy hour 2-10pm, which is choice if you want a margarita. We got the fajipiña. Basically fajitas served in a pineapple. When we got our food, we saw mold on the pineapple (they use chunks of pineapples within the fajitas). So they basically cooked our food in mold. When we asked for a new one, we're pretty sure they just dumped the same food within the pineapple into a new, fresher pineapple. We asked for an extra side and they charged us for it as well. Sucked because the food looks really good. Probably just a one off, but mold in the food is crazy. read more

WOW! I wish a location opened up closer to me since I live 1.5 hours away! I was in the area one day and came across this page on yelp. The yelp page does not do this business justice. Los Tres Amigos only employs the friendliest and most accommodating employees! Way to wow the customer. The decor is fun and inviting, they even have a full bar! Great menu selection and the prices are extremely reasonable. My husband and I both ordered fajita dishes...the meats were packed with flavor and all the sides tasted so fresh. I loved the salsa and my fajita steak was so juicy and tender, I wish I could eat this every week! Clean restrooms and clean restaurant. You really can't beat their lunch specials or atmosphere. I am definitely making the trip all the way out to Chelsea just to eat here again! read more

We've been going hear for a few years. They struggle due to being short staffed, but despite that, their vegetarian/vegan choices are great! I had the needless tacos tonight and they were fantastic! Decided to try this place after going to Michigan Stadium. We got there at about7:00pm. They seemed to be very short staffed as it took 15 minutes or so to be seated even though there was no one ahead of us. It took a little bit for our server to come around as well. When he did and we ordered, the food arrived extremely fast and it was very good. I had the burrito verde. It had a good taste and just a little kick. The ready of my party were raving about their meals. My 8year old son devoured n enchilada. The pricing was not bad as well. Be sure to double check your charges! Apparently this sign means that they can charge whatever they want after you finish your meal. All 3 of us showed a price of $7.99 on the menu, but when the bill came, the price was 40% more. After arguing with the manager about how this is a deceptive business practice, he FINALLY adjusted the bill to make it right, with the caveat that they can charge whatever they want the next time we come in. Well what can I say other than if you're a true disaster tourist then boy is this the place for you! Hilariously rude service (shoutout to our sever who seemed to have snorted way too much blow before demanding our order), bad food (strange rubbery mystery meat that science has yet to accurately categorize/identify), and stale moldy air blasting straight into your face from the air ducts above. Came here with a friend from Chelsea for dinner. Had a short wait for a table but the courtyard outside is a lovely place to sit and do that so the wait was not bad at all. First off--the menu is huge. Lots to choose from and tons of combinations to work through if you want a few different things. Chips came out hot and crunchy and the salsa was fresh, although not very spicy (they may have a spicy option but the default is mild). We also got guac and queso fundito as starters. The guac was fresh and the queso was nice and cheesy (although I think they just use a plain sausage/ground beef on top vs chorizo...the kick of the latter would be better). My friend had her toddler son and they were really accommodating when she asked for his food to come out a bit earlier and in general the service was really spot on and friendly. They have a nice drink menu although I wasn't in the mood so I didn't look too closely. However, my friend's mom was also with us and she ordered a margarita and it was STACKED. She had the smaller size and it was still pretty huge. We all sampled it and it was very nice (and I'm not a huge tequila fan so that's high praise from me). For my entree, I got the chicken burrito plate. The chicken was shredded inside with a bit of spice (again, not spicy) and it was topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and sour cream and served with a side of rice and refried beans. The latter were a little on the soupy side but the burrito was good in a very Americanized Mexican kind of way. The chicken was nice and moist and the cheese was the traditional queso blanco. Overall a pretty solid dining option. Nowhere near as awesome as the joints in SW Detroit but it's a serviceable option for the area, for sure. read more

I have eaten Mexican food all over Mexico and the Southwest U.S. We stopped at Los Tres Amigos because my wife wanted Mexican food. The Yelp reviews weren't great, but we stopped anyway. We are frequent visitors and the older reviews simply do not do the establishment justice. The staff here are incredibly friendly, accommodating, and hardworking. The food is hot, fast and delicious. We've come with large parties and just as a couple, celebrated holidays and enjoyed casual nights out on the patio, all have been delightful. Throughout the pandemic we have encountered the staff going above and beyond to provide outstanding service, even with changing rules and hours. This was my first visit and it was disappointing. Our waitperson was just not interested in her job. Very long waits in between visits to our table and the restaurant was not that busy. Offered me a water and then never brought it. We had to flag down another waitperson to order drinks. Tried to give us some else's food order, then finally got 3 of the 4 meals delivered. The fourth was delivered a good 5-10 minutes later with no explanation. Never asked how we liked our food. Waited and waited for our bill. When we left she was sitting at the bar chatting with other staff. My food was just OK. I ordered Chicken Jalisco and the chicken was dry and the meal was not very warm. I love this place! They have amazing food, excellent vegan options but the last time we went, 22 august, the service was horrible. I get the whole post pandemic employment issues but it's getting to be an old excuse. Our waitress was very overwhelmed from the start. We ordered our apps right away, queso and guacamole and waters for all of us and 1 beer! Got the waters right away. Got our apps 10 min after our food arrived and only because I said something. The beer showed up at the same time. The food is always great but when I asked where my black beans that went with my soy chorizo tacos were she was clueless and said she had no idea. She asked me what I wanted to do. I said I wanted the beans! Since we were eating with 2 small kids our time had timed out. I actually had to go find her and ask for my bill and black beans!
