We stay at number 18 in lost colony. The place wasn't clean there was dog bones /dirt under the cushions plus bad lighting on the stairs from second floor to third floor,be careful on the steps going up or down,didnt find a switch on the second floor for stair to go up. Smell in the cabinet in the kitchen area. The dishes we had to wash before we used them because there was food stuck to the pans. The pool was so cloudy you couldn't see the bottom of the pool. The main thing about the place , it was close to the gulf and the decks with a great view. We tried to get a later check out but they didnt do it. For the cost you would of thought they would of did it. The boardwalk is slippery with sandals or tennis shoes. So be careful. read more

Do not rent from Vacasa or Bookin.com, and do not stay at Lost Colony. The house was filthy, had to wash everything we touched! Mouse droppings everywhere and cockroaches in the kitchen! The couch was so filthy housekeeping said it should be destroyed! read more

For my wife's family, Mustang Island is an annual rite of passage, generally booking a large suite at the Sandpiper or Sea Gull Condo towers, located mid-way between Port A. and Corpus, to kick off summer. Either crossing the bay bridge on one side, or taking the short ferry on the other was the line of demarcation between ordinary life and beach life. But over the years, those condos have become more and more expensive to rent. And now, no longer having school-aged kids to accommodate, we can do different things, like go in October (when it's still 80 degrees). Just south of those two condo towers (of course on State Highway 361, like everything else on Mustang Island) is the Lost Colony set of beach houses. This year we booked house #2, and I prefer it greatly to tower-life. First, assuming you'll have more than two people, the cost per person beats the adjacent condos. Also, it's just more personal to me to just walk out your unit and be at ground level, and not have to wait for an elevator, etc, or having to hear people run up and down the hallway outside your door at all hours. We were only there for three days, so didn't need to take advantage of the available laundry equipment in our unit, though my mom-in-law was there longer and that seemed to be very handy for her. Our unit was decorated in a "Pier One Beach" motif, so you'll never forget where you are even with the blinds closed. And our unit (not sure if all do) even had Netflix. Downsides are that the curtains are all pretty sheer, so trying to sleep in with the morning sun could be a problem if you're used to pitch black like we are. Much of the sheets didn't seem to fit the beds, when we wanted to swap out when we left and another guest was going to take our place. We didn't really use the lower floor bedroom with the bunk beds, but if you've got a couple kids, that would probably be a plus. The kitchen was pretty much stocked well enough for us (though we did buy a couple things, like trashbags, when we got our groceries), but the upstairs shower was pretty nice and big if that's important to you. The A/C unit inside was in the main living room though, so that was fairly loud and distracting when it was running, and with the thin curtains and not well insulated windows, probably ran more than it should have. Though when it ran, it blew cold and hard! Almost so much that it was difficult to find a balance between too cold when it was running and blowing on you, and warm when it stopped. We were not bothered with having to take our trash to the dumpsters by the main road. All in all, we liked it. It being gated and smaller helped with the privacy. Honestly, the biggest complaint I had was the loud A/C in the living room. So, first world problem. I'll put this just shy of four stars, so round up. read more

Not bad - the location is perfect and if you have a large group or family, it's not expensive per person. There's a nice pool that's a little small, but since you're only 2 minutes walk from the beach, that's the big attraction. The apartment I stayed in was a little old and tired but perfectly clean and spacious and we all had a good time. read more

Stayed in #18 on 8/1/13. The view is spectacular. VERY close to the beach. We chose this location because my mother-in-law likes to be close to the beach and does not actually go down to it, just sits and watches the kids play and enjoys the view. This place was perfect for that. #17 & #19 have similar views. There were 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms in 18. The kitchen had almost everything we needed, but no extra paper towels were provided and only 2 dish towels. Would suggest bringing your own linens, at least sheets (3 queen and 1 king) these were either old and questionable or non fitting. We did inform the property management company that the windows had to be cleaned before we could enjoy the view, which was disappointing. Also, they provide cheap garbage bags but require garbage to be taken to a dumpster at the very front of the community property - also disappointing. There is a washer/dryer but you have to dry your things 3 times before they are dry, so allow time! There were dirty dishes in the cabinets, some of the bathrooms were filthy. I think that the biggest issue is the property managers (Coastline Adventures) aren't checking up on their housekeeping staff. We also had an issue of handicap access, there were @16 steps to the main floor, when we booked the property I asked how many there were and was told 6 or 7. My mother-in-law managed, but something to be aware of if that's a concern. There are 3 floors total. One of the queens is actually a Murphy bed in the living room on the 2nd floor, there is 1 full bath on the second floor and a bedroom with bifold doors. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, the king size bedroom has a private balcony and master bath. They advertise that it has a futon to sleep on (I think) in the king size room but it's an old outdated wicker thing that wasn't even suitable to sit on much less sleep. My 16 yo daughter slept fairly well on the comfortable sectional sofa in the living room. Updated outdoor furniture is nice, but there were ants. All in all would stay again but I would come better prepared! Very close access to the boardwalk and pool. Both are only 1 condo away. read more

Loved it. No it's not the Ritz but you can't get closer to the beach. Took whole family twice. Stayed at 9 and then unit 18. Can take the dogs..and hear the ocean when you sleep!! Needs updates but I will continue to go every few months. We had 6 people and at 300 a night well worth it. Had a big screen tv and a fireplace! Try it out don't expect 5 star hotel but a beach house! read more

I stayed in Unit 12 booked through Coastal Adventures. What a dump for $500 a night!! We came to a condo that was filthy, exposed outlets, exposed light fixtures inside, furniture held together by duct tape, and threadbare bedlinens. Cleaning service said they just changed the sheets and wiped down the counters and floors. Coastal Adventures was no help. Book through another agency in another Unit. Location on the beach was great and was the only thing that salvaged our vacation. read more

Lost Colony Villa #26 maintained by Starkey Properties in Port Aransas TX NOT a good value.Great location and close to the ocean without a view but very run down and filthy. I found dirty underwear in one of the bathroom cabinets, hair in the sink and on the sheets. Dishes and pots and pans were put back in the cabinets dirty. Broken door knobs, rusty vents, closets and downstairs laundry area cluttered with junk. A joke that Starkey Properties charges a 50.00 incidental fee and 100.00 cleaning fee on top of nightly rent. 3 Nights for this 2 BR cost 900.00. DONT go by the photos shown online. Actual unit condition and furniture different than photos posted. Looks great until you arrive and realize the unit you booked looks different than online and NEEDS a good cleaning, update, paint job and MANY repairs. What wasn't broken was dirty. I cleaned and organized for a full day. A week later and three phone calls to management I at least got the cleaning fee back. I must say it was left in much better condition than when rented. I would not stay in any of their managed units again. What is posted online and described is what I expect, if not update listing, photos and description. Although many of the units in the Lost Colony are updated and in pristeen condition, a few are not and the pictures, especially unit 1 must be at least 10 years old. Our stay in this unit was expensive and very disappointing. Not any of the bathrooms had towel racks or hooks, the refrigerator was covered in rust, the smell of mold and mildew was overpowering on the ground floor, the deck was dangerous, thousands of ants and all the rooms needed float and tape on the ceilings. The garage was not useable. Prospective renters need to ask a lot of questions and get guatantees in writing. We would stay at Lost Colony again, but never in unit 1! read more
