I've found old Roy Rogers westerns and noir thrillers, Abbott and Costello features, Charlie Chan mysteries, Rene Clair screwball comedies, as well as the latest releases. For a while I thought this place was going to close, but they are still hanging in after having moved a couple of times. All the help you need from the friendly staff, even to checking to see if something not carried is still available in any format (they even offered to order something for me). Yes, Eclipse Bookstore is exactly where I want to be. We meant to visit Fairhaven because we had heard so much rave for Village Books, but coming to this place first spoiled it. I mean, I hate to say it, but there's something very special about Eclipse Bookstore that a Village Books or any other larger bookstore lacks. I think it's the lone man as the owner, doing everything, from accepting the used books, to pricing, to stacking, to ringing up people, to posting public hearings about land use development in the surrounding area on the bookstore windows, etc. I love it all. Depending on what you're looking for, they may or may not have it. But they have a lot that is completely unexpected yet something you'll desire. The used books are worth going through, and the rare collection was worth a gander with prices that are steeper but when will you ever find a first edition of Jane Austen's book about etiquette? If I lived in the area, I would be a regular. I was told to only buy two books from here, which was a challenge. But challenge accepted! I left home with two books (and another for a gift for my friend). Whenever I'm back in the area, I'll get lost here.

I recently moved to Bellingham and Village Books (and paper dreams) actually really swayed me to move here. Its a book palace, 3 stories of well organized selection. The front facing books are well chosen, and the used books are interspersed with the new books. There are quite a few staff picks sections, all of which are super interesting and worth looking over. Three days before Christmas 2025 I was there trying to pick out a horror book for a friend of mine. Horror is not my genre (more of a fantasy and literature gal myself), so I for sure needed guidance. The shop lady spent so much time reviewing the whole horror section with me . When we couldn't find the main book we decided on me buying, she spent the time looking everywhere for it. She enlisted the help of two additional staff members. When she was needed for another task, she made sure one of the other shop ladies had me covered. I ended up ordering the book, which came in a few days and they texted me when it arrived. Easy peasy! I will never forget that experince, especially as the store was jam packed with x-mas shoppers. Village books in fairhaven is the spot! My only note is that their bookclubs could be better. The bookclubs are during the day and don't have different genre selections (they are mostly nonfiction). There is a silent reading bookclub that I might try. They could be cultivating different types of communities (ie book clubs geared towards romantasy, sci-fi, literature, etc.), but maybe that will come with time.

The last part can explain why the vibe is just off. It just doesn't feel comfortable nor welcoming, and if I had to put my finger on the cause, I would say it is likely due to management. I witnessed firsthand how the store manager ignored customers in line waiting to pay because he was on the phone. You never ignore the customers who are right in front of you. Not only does it have small town flare, but it also has the largest assortment of used books that I've personally seen. The store sits inside a small house on the main strip of San Juan Island. It looks tiny from the outside, but, oh wow, does it hold entire worlds inside. There's a multitude of rooms all themed after each genre. You'll find everything from cookbooks, history, fantasy, young adult, sci-fi, history, fiction, self help, and autobiographies. Like other reviewers have mentioned you might have to do a bit of digging, as most of the books are stacked since they do not have the space on the shelves. Something else to note is that they do not allow food and drink inside, but they do have the cutest fireplace for you to place your hot coffee or tea on to keep it warm. Highly recommend checking out this spot when you're on San Juan Island, and be sure to stop by next-door to pick up a homie style lunch.

The layout of the shop allows customers to shop with space and social distancing. There are sections for pets, accessories, baby clothing, and decor. The owner is very careful about what she brings in and has classes and pop-ups in her store all the time. The bottom line is she is clearly working to build a community around her shop and it really shows in the relationships she builds with the artists she brings in as well as the customers who keep coming back.

Reset Games is one of my go-to game stores in Bellingham. They have an amazing selection of games…read moreranging from the earliest Atari games to modern console titles. Also, they have many different consoles there, and at good prices too! Sometimes they will have rarer consoles in stock like the Atari Jaguar or the Virtual Boy. They also have great deals on consoles. The prices may seem higher than market for the consoles, but that is because if you buy a console, it comes with OEM cables and controllers included, not 3rd party junk. For example, I got a VG condition non-yellowed SNES for $90 with all the previously mentioned accessories included. The staff are happy to accept a return within 30 days of a purchase with a full refund, which is very nice if an item stops working after a few days. As for trade-ins or selling, Reset Games will not currently accept defective/broken items as they do not offer a repair service. If you want to sell broken/defective items, go to Cosmic Games, as they offer a good repair service. The only slight downside is that the game prices are sometimes a bit higher than competing stores in the area, but their massive selection of games makes up for that. In conclusion, Reset games is a great game store. I always love stopping by. It's a must-visit for gamers.

I have gone there MANY times and got faulty items. We got 3rd party n64 games that are spray…read morepainted green with dead batteries so you can't save which we brought back multiple times. Every copy was bad. Every console I have gotten from there was busted and not tested properly. Multiple PS2 slims with dying disk drives. So, I went to their sister store down south. [over a 3-hour drive] Their staff told me they tested the ps2 they had. We drove back home and within 5 min the 1st controller port was bad and making the controllers loose connection and power. (how can you miss this if it was properly tested?) Also, that ps2 couldn't read disks towards the end of the disk. We have sold them a console ourselves and watched how they test consoles. They turn it on, throw a disk in, and if the disk reads, they just shut it off. There is no performance testing done, or everything I have said above would have been caught. BEWARE OF CONSOLES YOU BUY FROM HERE. ASK TO DO YOUR OWN TESTING BEFORE HANDING THEM MONEY, AS THEY WILL NOT GIVE BACK A REFUND, ONLY STORE CREDIT! They lost a customer that goes in spending 500 to 800 bucks a visit today. Their staff (dude with blue hair) told me they don't normally return consoles until I told him I spoke to someone in a higher position about this already, then, he wanted me to fill him in on what I was told so he could follow their policy better. Seemed like he was trying to cut me off on returns until I notified him, but I knew better already. Cosmic Games not only sell everything that Reset Games has, but they also do repairs, and their employees don't try to lie to me. They have made 1000s off of me and counting. Any issues I have had, they fix without charge as far as consoles or handhelds that I have purchased goes. Cosmic Games IS THE SUPIRIOR STORE costs more but WAY MORE accommodating and professional.
