Whoa, this place is AMAZING! My wife and I stayed here while hiking the Redwoods and taking a day trip up to Oregon. This place is beautiful. Upon arrival we were greeted by our innkeeper for the night and a snack plate that included cheese, crackers, dried fruit, nuts, and salmon was ready for us to take up to our room. This snack plate is prepared everyday. The room was very comfortable and we loved the attention to detail. We stayed in the Egret room and we had plenty of space. The bed was comfortable and could slightly hear the sea lions from our room. No t.v. in the room and it was nice to connect with nature and rest. There was an indoor heater in the closet that we turned on to heat up the room and turned off when we slept. The blankets kept us warm at night. One night after staying out at the fire pit to hang out with other guests, we got back to our room to shower and we didn't have hot water. One of the innkeeper's told us sometimes it happens when too many people are showering at once. Not a deal breaker, although I want to share because this is something that I'd want to know. Back to good stuff...their breakfast is delicious every morning. It tastes like it is made with love. There is a trail down to the beach and a fire pit where they have all the ingredients necessary to make smores. The view is spectacular here. Truly one of a kind. Definitely pricey, but this was our favorite BnB on our road-trip from Texas. We didn't spend a ton of time at the BnB itself but there was a lot we could have done. The beach with the Stellar's sea lines on the rocks (could hear them from the BnB), the attention to small details in the rooms, the sounds of the waves, the great breakfast, walking through the amazing garden; it was really one of our greatest experiences on this trip. The interaction with the hosts was a bit odd though, generally seemed very annoyed most of the time; however we never had any issues getting what we needed or answering questions. read more

Wow... so sad that we had to leave after one overnight. What a magical place most of the guests were on their fifth eighth visit. We unexpectedly served dinner which was amazing because we were so tired and hungry it didn't realize it was part of the package. We slept 11 hours on that comfortable bed. The owners of this beautiful Inn are so lovely to their staff, that the staff turns right around and is that loving to the guests. From the moment I arrived, Keaton (the hostess) greeted me warmly and offered to help me with my luggage. I felt immediately enveloped with genuine kindness. When I realized i had no swimsuit for the spa, she offered to find me a substitute. Which she did. And the spa was wonderful with the ocean pounding below on the rocks, and seals barking in the night. And that's the way it went, the whole stay. When I missed the wonderful breakfast buffet in the morning, Keaton cheerfully fixed me a beautiful plate, and Met (also a hostess) made me a "happy face" orange juice to top it off.! Help with luggage was offered on leaving, along with much assistance with any request I had. The Beluga Room was absolutely wonderful, romantic, cozy, and balcony open to the ocean. The beach trail was exhilarating and do-able, even for an 81 year old woman. I have never had such a lovely time. Highly recommended. And dont forget to roast marshmellows (provided by the Inn) at the firepit at night, and get some hugs with Boscoe the old black cat who is waiting to love every human being in sight. G. Wow! What a lovely bed and breakfast! Upon arrival we were met by a very friendly young woman who gave us a tour and walked us to our room. There was a delicious charcuterie plate waiting for us minus our food allergies and that was so nice of them to consider this. The view was spectacular and we showed up at check in so we were able to sit outside in the warm sun and take a short walk around the grounds. The landscaping is beautifully kept. There is wine, juice, soda and beer complimentary for guests. The deck has plenty of seating and there are chairs closer to the ocean view as well as a picnic table area. There is a fire lit at sunset with s'more fixings. We don't do well with camp fire but I thought it was such a cute amenity for guests. Our room, The Orca, had a beautiful view and the bed was very comfortable. I also appreciated that there weren't any down pillows, I'm allergic so I was able to use all of the pillows. The rooms surprisingly didn't have thin walls. We could hear other guest walking in the hall but we could not hear them in their rooms. In the morning a delicious brunch is included and that was probably the best frittata I've ever had. Everything was fresh and it was nice sitting looking out over the water. The inn had so many cute decorative items and art. There was a small library for reading material, a cute gift shop, and a large hot tub overlooking the ocean. We would definitely stay again. This must be one of the most stunning places to stay on the plant, with the warmest hospitality to boot! If you are looking for an awe-inspiring romantic stay you will never forget, I highly recommend booking at The Lost Whale. The grounds and ocean views from the inn are so fantastic, we spent all afternoon and evening wandering the colorful gardens and staring at the sea with our beautiful appetizer plate and wine. We walked down to the private beach and lingered at the 2 comfortable Adirondack chairs set up on a platform there. In the evening, we enjoyed fresh cookies and made our own S'mores with provided supplies at the lovely fire that was set up, overlooking the sea at sunset. I could go on & on, but suffice it to say, the amenities are stellar, rooms are super charming and comfortable, breakfast is spectacular, and the hosts are the very best (shout out to Sarah and Melanie). Both times we have stayed in The Sea Lion room with a comfortable bed looking directly at the sea, private little porch overlooking the flower garden, and semi-private wing of the inn almost all to our own. This place is AMAZING. My husband and I spent our honeymoon here and could not have dreamt of a better stay. Everything offered here feels so intentional. It's too bad Yelp only rates up to 5 stars. This inn deserves at least 7 or 8. Everything at the Lost Whale exceeded our expectations. The building and grounds were immaculate, and the ocean views were stunning. The staff takes the time to make sure the guests are completely satisfied. Even, Roscoe, the house cat made sure to keep our bed warm for us upon arrival. We stayed in the Sea Lion room. The bed looks directly over the ocean. What a way to wake up in the morning! They serve wine and snacks every afternoon from 4 to 6. A perfect way to enjoy the late afternoon and sunset. However, this review would not be complete without mentioning the outstanding breakfast served at 9 am sharp every morning. You will be amazed at the lengths the staff go through to put it together. There is not enough words in the English language to describe the feelings and emotions thus wonderful B&B invoke. My daughter gave my husband and I a gift certificate for our 20 year anniversary. 5+ stars. We stayed a couple nights at this quiet and relaxing place. It's not cheap but easily worth the price. The inn is just perfect in so many ways. It's small, I'm guessing around 8 rooms, many with views of the ocean. We stayed in the Gray Whale room which had a gorgeous view. The grounds and gardens are beautiful with places to sit and enjoy the view while sipping a glass of wine. There's an outdoor hot tub and a sauna on site as well as a fire pit where you can watch the sunset as you toast marshmallows from the basket of s'mores fixings they provide. Breakfast is served buffet style at 9am and varies daily. Everything we had was always delicious; frittatas, peach cobbler, pancakes, bacon, sausage and both orange juice and coffee are examples of what you might enjoy. Afternoon appetizers are provided daily as well as wine, tea and coffee. Veggies, fruits, cheeses with crackers, cookies and smoked fish were some of the items we had during our stay. They provide several bottles of wine to choose from and all were top notch. The wifi is great here which was a surprise in this remote area. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful in providing information regarding places to eat dinner or where to hike in the nearby Redwoods or where to view wild elk. They have also created a trail down to the rocky beach below although it is not for everyone - it's steep and requires negotiating a rope ladder - but worth the effort if you're in reasonable shape. There are only a few places on this planet that have a view of the ocean, the surrounding cliffs and huge trees - with private access to the beach below that rival this enchanted place. An awesome B & B on the California north coast, just past Trinidad a few miles. This quintessential rugged two story north coast home is that and much more. Located a half mile or so down Patrick's Point road on the inside (ocean) side of the road. Tucked away on cliffs mixed in amongst the redwoods and giant fir up above the ocean - this is where you will find the lost whale inn. This great home is open and inviting as you walk in the front door. The glass windows opening to the back of the houses great room - spilling out onto the deck and then down onto the lawn - offer a world class view of the ocean and the beginning of what is in store during your brief time here. We recently spent an evening and booked the blue whale room - the only king bed room - the upper floor, corner room is quite spacious with a private bath that has a walk in shower (plenty of hot water and great water pressure) and the view from the dormer window, complete with a daybed and sitting area - is one of the great images on the brochure. There are eight rooms available at the Lost Whale, and they will work with you to accommodate large groups, should you want to book the whole house for a family retreat or party with friends. Something we plan to try soon. Our hosts, Gary and Guia, are fun, wonderful folks - that make you feel appreciated and welcome into their home, making sure you have pretty much anything and everything you need to be comfortable while you are there. We went for their winter special "wine, dine and unwind package" - it includes a wine reception, gourmet dinner, a night away, and 7 course gourmet breakfast(which they are known for and it was awesome). These sweet packages starts at $199 and up per couple for a night away, and they do not require a two night stay as a lot of places do on the weekends. Check in is at 3 pm. Check out 11. The wine reception and complimentary bar sets up and begins around 4, and it is quite a little spread - smoked albacore and salmon, specialty olives, mushrooms and cheeses, sliced breads and crackers, fresh carrot soup with cilantro right out of the garden, and some seasonal fruits. This little mixer worked quite nicely meeting the other guests and breaking the ice for the evening. Dinner starts around 6:30 with guests gathering earlier having a drink, talking and relaxing. It was a full house the night of our visit, we live very close to this wonderful place and our house mates for the evening had traveled from all over the state to be there, this made for great conversations and newly formed friendships - as it turned out, three others were celebrating a birthday as we were. And a small world - my wife and our host have the same birthday in November! This buffet style gourmet spread, prepared by our hosts - starting with a fresh romaine and avocado salad, with a wonderful champagne vinegar dressing and sliced sour dough bread. Dinner had several selections for the evening, two vegetarian options - a portobello mushroom lasagna, a yummy asparagus and cheeses stuffed puff pastry - both were quite tasty, there was a local caught percale sole wrapped broccoli with a wonderful sauce (which I'm not clear on but it was very good), and pork tenderloin medallions encrusted with nuts and served with a gravy and side rice. You can BYOB for dinner if you wish, we did. There were six desserts available for the night! I can't remember them all but we settled on a homemade citrus cheesecake with chocolate crumb crust, and it was simply delicious. The tawny port we brought as well, went with it wonderfully! After dinner, we decided to slip away and went for a soak in the hot tub - with our ports in hand, we discovered a nice sized, octagonal tub it is very comfortable. Warm, not hot. The area, is private and secluded - through the gate and up the stairs, a wood deck area with bench seats and lots of plants around, also has an amazing view of the ocean though the sun had already set by the time we got in. They provide robes for your use, there are a couple freshly laundered hanging in your room upon arrival. Retiring to our room for the evening - full, relaxed and happy - the sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks below in the distance, sleep came quickly. The bed was a little soft for my liking or maybe it needed to be flipped - as I woke a little stiff - my only minor issue. My wife woke early and watched the morning from the day bed window - her words amazing. The breakfast at 9:30 was wonderful, hot fresh and filling - and coffee is available early. This place is AMAZING!! The grounds are gorgeous and well kept. The inn is so cute, comfy, and clean. Plenty of nice spots to sit and enjoy the ocean views. All the staff were so friendly, attentive, and approachable. They had great recommendations for what to do in the area too. The food was soooo good. I'm gluten free and they happily accommodated me. The town it's in, Trinidad, is small so there's not much in the immediate area but a great central spot for the Redwoods and plenty of outdoor activities within a 20 minute drive. Staying here was an all the way around lovely experience! We received a call to let us know the shower in the room we booked was leaking, and because they were unsure if the plumber would get there before check in we were given a second room for no additional charge. The plumbing issue was resolved quickly and we enjoyed the hospitality. The view was beautiful and the food provided was delicious. The staff were incredibly kind and went out of their way to make us comfortable. I would stay again and recommend this inn to others. read more

We booked our vacation in January- being new to California, we wanted to see the redwoods. In spite of the current situation- we decided to keep our reservation when we saw the update from the inn about their extra measures. The best part was that everything would be delivered to the room. Room service daily sounded ok with us! The breakfast was served exactly at 9am each morning. And it was everything you would dream it could be. Over the top- spectacular! We highly recommend a room with a balcony of one is available. We did - and the view is spectacular. We woke up to the sound of ocean and the barking sea lions. Each evening by 4pm- a wonderful plate of appetizers and a bottle of wine was waiting in the main room for you. You could take it to the gardens or to your room. We enjoyed daily excursions including horse back riding to old growth forest. And were grateful to get in the hot tub afterwards. The staff is delightfully friendly good people. The staff was amazing the whole time from helping me set up the perfect surprise for my boyfriend's birthday to even providing us a to go breakfast when we had to check out early and would miss their daily breakfast. We came for the weekend and it just happened to be during their winter special's two tickets to temptation dinner. The food is INCREDIBLE. First night was: caesar salad, portobello mushroom and asparagus risotto, pork chops with a red whine reduction, steamed clams and mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce, and roasted potatoes with a sundried tomato aoili. Second night: cranberry, feta, and sliced almonds mixed with field greens and a citrus vineagrette, chicken alfredo, sautéed green beans, portobello mushroom lasagna, oven baked salmon with a dill and lemon tarter sauce to be served over a bed of rice. Dessert both nights were gluten free chocolate torte with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce drizzled over it, myer lemon cheesecake, bananas foster ice cream and two different types of sorbets. The location was amazing and the views were gorgeous. We fell in love with the place instantly and highly recommend it!! We will definitely be coming back before the year is over. read more

I am not sure where to start on describing our AMAZING experience at The Lost Whale Inn but I'll try! We checked in on a Thursday (2/13/2020) and we were greeted by Brian, the owner, who was welcoming and genuine. He showed us around the house, the property (includes a sauna, garden, and 24 hour hot tub), and then to our room. He actually upgraded us free of charge because he had a cancellation in a larger room! So awesome! Complimentary hors d'oeuvres, wine, liquor and beer was served at 4 (they started setting this up significantly earlier then that which was so appreciated!) The dinner was served at 630 and was AMAZING. They made us feel like we were at a high end restaurant, not only with the food, but with the service. After dinner was dessert... and let. me. tell you. what... the Bananas Foster was the BEST I'VE EVER HAD. Not kidding, not exaggerating. It was so delicious! We enjoyed the 24 hour hot tub that night, followed by a walk around the gorgeous, well kept property. They have a sauna (we didn't partake) but it's a pretty cool option! Question: How many hours a day does the Northern California Sea Lion bark? A. 6 hours B. 8 hours C. 10 hours D. 24 hours. The answer is D. My family now knows the answer to this question after staying at the Lost Whale Inn. We heard sea lions, who congregate on the rocks visible from the Inn (you can see them with binoculars), at 1: 00 pm and at 3:32 am.....and we loved every minute of it.. We haven't heard a lot of sea lions barking in the Hudson River, so that was part of the charm. The Lost Whale Inn is probably the most magical, charming, amazing place I have every been in my life. Our room, with a view of the Pacific Ocean, was breathtaking. The bed was comfy, the robes in the bathroom were plush. The breakfast that is included was nothing short of spectacular. The highlights of some of our favorite breakfast items were: Orange scented puff pancakes with fresh raspberry sauce Cinnamon rolls made with puff pastry Scones with a thumbprint of jam Steel cut oatmeal with chai spice, cinnamon & caramelized pears Blackberry cobbler Frittata with jalapenos and fresh peppers Rosemary leek potatoes We had 3 breakfasts at the Lost Whale and they were all incredible. They happily wrap up and encourage you to ask for leftovers.....----we enjoyed cinnamon rolls on a hike later in the day. They also serve afternoon tea: homemade breads/muffins..........smoked salmon & crackers. One day our inn keeper insisted we take some pears that he had just picked from a friend's tree. There is a small refrigerator on the first floor off the dining room that guests can help themselves to soda and wine. If you are lucky, you may even hear one of the inn keepers playing Mozart on the piano located in the dining room. Lost Whale is only a 20 minute drive from Praire Creek Park. At night we would sit by the campfire, roast marshmallows and talk to the other guests at the Inn; who all happened to be from Northern California. Being from the East Coast, this was our first trip to Cali...............all I have to say is.......I can see why everyone out here is risking their life with that San Andreas fault. Beautiful part of the United States with great people. I was considering doing my 200th review on an East Coast gem close to home, but Lost Whale is just so remarkable and deserving of the milestone. read more

THIS IS PLACE IS AMAZING!!!! JUST AMAZING!!! the perfect hidden gem. My husband and I were looking for a place to spend a night or two on our drive to see my inlaws for the holidays. i found this beautiful BnB, and am beyong drateful I did. first this place is righ on the coast. you cannot find a place with more breathtaking view then this place. it was very close to the Redwood forest, A major plus!!!. the BnB is a miz of country farm house meets california coast. it was very relaxing. we could hear the ocean from our room. We had the humpback room, it was their smallest room but it sure did deliver. it was perfect with a very plush full/queen size bed. the room had a skyligh that lets in amazing light. you can hear the sea lions in the morning which is a sight to see right from their deck. mind you i am barely grazzing on the decor truelly the place in beautiful. I havent touched on the staff yet.... the staff there... they are so nice, and genuine. the sweetes people ever... serously. they are not just being hispitable because your staying at their BnB, they genuinely are the nicest people we have encountered within a BnB we have been to a number of them in many different countries ( yelp needs like a europe edition) and they are just so nice. they are attentive and work to make sure you are coomfortable and have everything you need. they are a great help when it comes to exploring the REdwoods... they have maps and tons of knowledge. the owner is the sweetest lady around... now onto the food.... the food is that of a 5 star restaurant, seriously first night there we had fillet minion with steam asparagus a mixed green salad with cranberries, blue cheese crumble and caramel covered pecans... delish!!!!!!!! they have a mini bar in the great room with locally brewed beers and other libations in the evening around 430 they have snacks out.. home made clam chowder, crackers, locally made cheese. it took us eight hours to get there but i would galdly take a trip back to californina just for lost whales inn!!!! read more
