My daughter and I stayed in the Sunroom suite when we were there to visit Cal Poly Humboldt. The room was comfortable and more than enough room for us. The couple that runs the Inn were kind, and very informative about the school and the town. I appreciate how he gave my daughter his full attention when we were chatting (she was about 17 years old at the time). I could tell he was an educator because of the thoughtful conversations he had with her. We love the charm of being in an old house. I would definitely stay here again. Had a fantastic two day stay at Lady Anne. The hosts were very accommodating. We texted the hosts that we would arrive at 730 pm. The hosts were present at that time for check in and tour. They said we had only reserved the room for one night when it had been requested for two nights. Thankfully they were able to give a two night stay. It could have been a real problem. The hosts didn't send an confirmation email after the reservation was made. The bed was very comfortable. I think it was the largest room. The bathtub was delicious. Breakfast was pancakes, eggs, fruit, edible flowers and delicious coffee. Our hosts were very entertaining and friendly at check in and at breakfast. I'd definitely stay here again. Just make sure to get an email confirmation. read more

This is a very overdue review... My apologies to Sam and Sharon!! My wife and I spent the last night of our anniversary trip in the Lady Anne Victorian Inn. I found it while casually searching for lodging close to the Square (wife's request). The second I saw Lady Anne, I knew this is where we would be staying. Wife was able to book our stay the next day and she said it was a total breeze. We chose to stay in the Blue Room (each room has a different theme). After a very interesting camping trip on the beach for a few nights prior to our stay at Lady Anne, we were looking forward to our stay. Sam and Sharon were very friendly and greeted us at the entrance with smiles and "Welcome!"s. We got a run-down of guest operations and a small tour of the inside as we were led to our room. We absolutely loved the authenticity and decorations of not only our room, but the entire Inn. Sam and Sharon have done an incredible job of restoring the original beauty of Lady Anne and honoring the stories she's told while modernizing certain areas where needed. After an afternoon out, we returned to a lovely lit enclosed patio area and a cozy warm interior. The bed was almost "too" comfortable, especially after 3 nights on a deflating air mattress! But oh, was it nice to sleep on the clouds... I can't remember the material of the cover(s), but they were lightweight yet still kept us very warm. The next morning, we were greeted downstairs with much more than we had anticipated for breakfast. Warm, local pastries and rolls... hot, delicious coffee... fresh fruit... and these eggs that were absolutely decadent. I wanted to ask for seconds, but I didn't want to be rude to any guests who hadn't come down yet. Sam entertained us and another couple with some of his and his wife's stories of being Humboldt natives. When it came time to check out, they made sure we enjoyed our time, to which we exclaimed YES! Having known the area in which we were travelling back to, Sam had some alternate routes to recommend as to avoid the massive road work on the 299. **Sam, THANK YOU for the recommended directions of the 101 and across the 20!** We enjoyed a couple of small stops along the way in Clearlake as well. In all, this is a 10/10 recommendation and we are already looking forward to our next trip to Humboldt- we know where we will be staying! read more

I went for a girls weekend trip. The breakfast isn't possible with COVID so for now it's just a Bed. The Inn keepers are kind and very helpful. I read the reviews where they say the Inn keepers are rude. They didn't come off as rude to me. They just mind to themselves and aren't trying to get up in all your business. The Inn itself is beautiful, beds were comfy, showers clean. Great vintage decor and wonderful outside seating. The location is close to all. Great little market, excellent eats nearby, and the town square is also walking distance. I will definitely be back again. read more

I recently had a terrible experience at the Lady Anne. The couple that runs the inn are unprofessional; they are running a B&B but they are NOT in the hospitality business. I planned a trip for my mom and I to explore Northern California and we stayed one night at the Lady Anne. We stayed in the Garden Suite and it was cluttered, dusty, dirty in the corners, furniture that didn't fit the room, missing baseboards and unfinished construction on the garden porch. While checking in, the caretaker asks if we want the pullout sofa made up and, twice, we tell him "yes." We return after dinner to find the bed unmade BUT all the sheets are there in an unorganized pile. My mom and I make the bed. When I start to fill the claw foot tub, I see that it's dirty (dust and hair). Forgoing a soak, I get ready for bed and, just before washing my face, I... oops!... drop a washcloth in the sink only to discover it's dirty too!!! Livid and so disappointed that I'm subjecting my mom to this place I call the caretaker to bring us clean washcloths/towels. When I tell him that the towels are dirty and I'd like replacements he tells me that "they are clean, my wife and I washed them today." I insist that washed or not, the towels are dirty and I describe the offending details. His response is "oh. Well, stuff happens." He drops off new towels without an apology. After our night's experience, we didn't stay for breakfast. We didn't shower or use any towels. When checking out the caretaker extended an apology. I don't recommend the Lady Anne. read more

The Lady Anne is a beautiful place, reasonable priced and placed in a perfect spot for exploring Arcata and the surrounding Redwood Coast. My girlfriend parents came up to Arcata to help us move. We were recommended the Lady Anne. It did not disappoint. The house is beautiful and wonderfully decorated in a Victorian era theme. My favorite part of the house was the Music Room where guests are invited to come share conversation and notes. The room itself was the Garden Suite, a large room well furnished with a very comfortable bed and other necessities. The room included a private bath with a large clawfoot tub for relaxing. The price was _very_ reasonable and included a communal breakfast to get to know the other customers. Highly recommended. read more

Stayed here the other night with my husband. The house is on a quiet street, within walking distance of the local shops and restaurants. This is a traditional B&B with a Victorian theme. Our particular bed was such that I used the step stool provided to climb in (I'm also kinda on the short side). The rooms originally didn't all have baths, so our full bath (shower instead of tub) used to be a closet. There is an armoire for hanging items, though. The bed and bath linens were cozy and I thought the filled carafe next to our bed was a nice touch. They also utilize bath products from a local vendor shop called Bubbles for you to take home. Besides included wifi, the rooms and main entry are on a key-less system - which is nice so we didn't have to keep checking for our key. Breakfast that day was eggs to order, strawberries and apple cinnamon pancakes. The communal dining table was an opportunity for us to get to know some of the other guests staying there. I found out this is the only B&B in Arcata. It is even walking distance to Humboldt State, so parents have an option besides being in the next city over. Will be recommending this to couples looking for an alternative to hotels and motels. read more

Extremely kind and knowledgeable innkeeper, beautiful rooms for a reasonable price, close to downtown, gorgeous garden and landscaping, nice parlour and music room with a homey lived in feel. No locks on room doors when leaving can feel a little uncomfortable, bathroom sink leaked a bit and there was a fair bit of water damage in the shower, but everything worked great and was clean otherwise. We aren't huge fans of the communal breakfast style so we did not partake. We recommend staying at this inn, but pay with cash as there is a steep fee for using a credit card. read more

My preference was to stay in Arcata because it feels like a nice small town and is very centrally located to everything we wanted to visit (Ferndale to Fern Canyon). The Lady Anne Bed and Breakfast is a wonderful place to stay in Arcata. The location is perfect; within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants, but away from the noise of the plaza bars at night. Because it is located in the neighborhood and not on the plaza, there is never an issue with parking. It is a short enjoyable walk from the Lady Anne through the neighborhood of victorian homes to the plaza or restaurants. We stayed for two nights in early September. We originally reserved the Rose room, but upon arriving, we could see the Sun room down the hall and was able to switch rooms. The room actually feels much nicer than I thought it would, based upon the images on the website. The Sun room was very spacious. It was bright during the day, but not too sunny. There is actually a lovely view of the town and bay from the windows on one side of the room and a charming arched window on the other side of the room with a pretty view of the neighboring homes. It is very quiet and peaceful, even with other guests. Our room had a wonderful King-sized Tempurpedic bed. We slept very well indeed! The bathroom was a little awkward, but I could understand the challenge of converting the unusual shaped spaces in Victorian homes. Otherwise our room was very comfortable to stay in. Breakfast was very nice, served between 8AM-9AM. We met the other guests at breakfast and the innkeeper, Greg, would sit for a short while towards the end of breakfast to talk with everyone. He knows the area very well, had good suggestions and was always very helpful and laid back. He was very accommodating with another guest one morning concerning special dietary restrictions and even let us check-out a little later because our flight wasn't until the afternoon. We were able to sneak a peak at all the upstairs rooms at one point or another when they became available. I think it made a big difference to see the rooms in person. The Union Suite was gorgeous with a great view of the town. The blue room looks very romantic with a cute fireplace. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to staying there again in the future. This is a great place to stay if you want to stay in charming place, in a nice small town and you want to avoid the motels/hotels in the area, with a preference for a more unique experience. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Lady Anne on a recent family visit to Arcata. Such a lovely and enjoyable stay in the Sunroom with its very comfy bed and linens and with a view of the water on a clear day. Sharon and Sam are the perfect hosts and they each contribute to the delicious and healthy breakfasts each morning. Truly, the breakfast alone is worth the stay. There is a terrific grocery market a mere 2 blocks away and a comfortable walk to the town square. Do not miss the farmers' market if the season is right. We found everything just as it was promoted on the website...no surprises. The Lady Anne will be our Arcata destination from now on. read more

Not only are Sam and Sharon helpful and nice but they made our trip a once in a lifetime experience. The location was perfect for our son's graduation from Humboldt. They made us feel like family and were always attentive and courteous. The history of the home is amazing and our son enjoyed the parlor and library and enjoyed quiet time to catch up on his studies. The breakfast was intimate and enjoyable. We stayed in the Sun Room and I HIGHLY recommend it.. it had an antique claw-foot bathtub and plenty of room for a family of 4. From the outside, the house is a charming Victorian with a lovely front porch. Two cats and a dog roam the lovely grounds, which is nice for those who miss their own pets. My friend and I, not being a couple, wanted two beds so we reserved ahead the Sun Room with a Temperapedic and a day bed. The price was substantially higher than a room for a couple. It seemed steep for what you get. The owners Sam and Sharon are friendly but they are busy taking care of the grandson, pets, and B & B. It's convenient to the historic downtown so easy walking to dinner. Sam gave us tips on where to eat. The breakfast was our main disappointment. Pretty slim. read more

Stayed here to visit my daughter @ Humboldt state May of 2010 after an uncomfortable stay at a local area motel. What a lovely experience! The house is enchanting, every where you look there's something lovely and delightful. Loved taking my first bath in a claw-foot bath tub. Bed very comfortable; street quiet, safe, no homeless people around that I could see. (Lots of homeless people in Arcata). Lovely grounds and gardens. Caretaker Greg very friendly and helpful to me in helping my dtr and I search for apartment for her. Lovely breakfasts each morning cooked to order, with fresh fruit, plus Greg even started making my coffee 'weak' for me, just the way I like it! Had a lovely time in the music room, with my dtr and her friends coming over and making lovely music for a little while. Took lots of pictures of this enchanting place. read more

Expected more. Web site describes complimentary breakfast, which is cookies and coffee. Some fruit but we ate the banana, found juice by looking in fridge. Cheerios also available. Rooms were clean, bathroom somewhat cramped. Upon arrival we were met by a woman who explained setup and told us if we needed something she would be in kitchen or in innkeepers quarters on 3rd floor. We recently stayed at Lady Anne for two nights, my wife and me, while visiting family up in Humbodt. Generally, it was okay, but certainly nothing to rave about. The people were nice, and we did not mind the friendly dog running around. Pretty solid breakfast. However, we shouldn't need to ask for TP for the bathroom, and one would expect that at least the bed and room would be made up while we were gone during the first day. That has always been our experience at numerous other B&Bs. Again, just okay and probably a bit expensive for the experience. read more

I didn't have high expectations when I booked this inn since there aren't a great number of choices in Arcata, especially if you're traveling with a dog, as we were. But the Lady Anne turned out to be a complete delight! The innkeepers could not be more welcoming and friendly, and are deeply rooted in the community so can give expert advice on local restaurants and attractions as well as local history. The house itself is utterly charming, full of lovingly collected and displayed antiques and fascinating objects, and the outdoor spaces show the loving touch of a gifted gardener. All their beds have Tempur Pedic mattresses with super comfy, natural bedding, and we had a wonderful night's sleep. We ended up meeting friends downtown for breakfast so didn't partake of the inn's breakfast, but I did see it being served to other guests and it looked very good. After living in Arcata for a few years, I had always wanted to stay in this B&B. So, this past weekend my wife and I found the perfect excuse as I had to travel up to Humboldt for a workshop. The house is elegant and well maintained by its kind staff; Greg was helpful with any request we had and knows a lot about the area. We stayed in the Sun Room, which on a sunny day you can see the bay and the bottoms, but unfortunately our weekend was filled with clouds, fog, and rain...typical Northern Humboldt weather. However, the bed made for a nice relief as it was dang comfy, so we didn't mind sleeping in a little bit longer with the sound of the rain outside. Nevertheless, breakfast is served at 8AM sharp and Greg is apparently a good cook, too. The first morning I had Belgian waffles and eggs cooked to order, and the second morning he served veggie and cheese omelets with an English muffin. Coffee, tea and O.J. were available both days. There is also a music room with guitars, brass instruments, an accordion, piano, and more. Outside there is a beautiful garden and as mentioned in the other posts, the house is situated on a quiet street that is walking distance to almost everything the town has to offer. I would definitely recommend this place to those who enjoy Victorian homes, convenience, and comfy beds:) read more

Our stay was back in August 2009 but I remember it all too well - hopefully, they've made some major improvements in order to justify the rates that they are still charging. We reserved the Rose Room, which was dirty - dusty, moldy (non-antique) furniture, hair on the floor, musty sheets. The bathroom had random pieces of wood nailed to the wall where leaks might have been repaired. What they tried to pass off as Victorian antique appeal was really just negligence. A shame too because the house is really beautiful on the outside. The layout is interesting, with strange little hallways and rooms. I can only imagine what an incredible stay it might have been if the interior had been cleaned, the sheets laundered, and the repairs finished. As it was, we were moved to the Blue Room, which was a slight improvement and given a discount, as was another disappointed couple. It seemed to be done like regular practice. I understand that not every b&b can be 5 stars, but not any of them should intentionally mislead with nice photos and high rates just to get you in the door, and then deliver so poorly. Breakfast was edible. Raven, our hostess (maybe? didn't seem to do much), went out for a horse ride while the host entertained us. She should have gone upstairs to vacuum. We stayed at 4 b&b's on that trip and the Lady Anne was the only disappointment, and not the least expensive. read more

My husband, son & I stayed overnight at the Lady Anne Inn this past weekend while we were checking out Humboldt College. Greg the manager was so helpful and friendly when I made our reservation. I explained how we would be coming in late due to the long drive and he was waiting up for us. We stayed in the Sun room, the largest room in the house. We had a king size tempurpedic bed that was soooo incredibly comfortable. I don't usually sleep well in hotel rooms, but not this time. There was plenty of space even with a king size bed, twin bed, a couch and claw foot tub in the room. Plus a separate bathroom with shower in the suite. The place was so quiet and relaxing. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast of homemade cinnamon apple pancakes, eggs and fruit, plus juice and coffee with the other guests of the house. Greg sat and talked at length with us about the town history, culture, and what it is like for kids coming to college here. He has a lot of information to share and I only wish we had more time to talk with him. If my son does go to college there, we will absolutely have a regular reservation at that beautiful B&B. read more

The lady who runs the place is very nice. Our shower had mildew in the caulking and leftover mini shampoos from who? The breakfast was OK. Our first pot of coffee was either burnt or old and it would have been nice to have some kind of juice. We had the Blue Room which on one hand you are exposed to the road was very pleasant because of all the natural light. The landlady mentioned the heating which does need some work. Our room was fine but other rooms were cold...of course it is February but warmer would have been nicer. read more

The outside of this grand Victorian house is beautiful. However, the rooms are not clean. We stayed in the Rose room. It was dusty, cobwebs hung in the corners of the ceiling, the bathroom had hair all over the floor and the room smelled musty. It was extremely unpleasant. I have stayed in many B&Bs and have yet to experience one that was so ill kept. We moved to another room for the second night. The next room was a bit cleaner. The bed was very comfortable which made the room much more bearable. The innkeeper gave us a discount on the rooms. The person checking out after us also got a discount. read more

I really wish I could give this B & B a higher rating because Sam and Sharon were very pleasant and helpful, but due to the unpleasant showers I had to take, I am going to have to give it just 2 stars. Sam was extremely interesting to talk to and gave great recommendations for sites to see and restaurants to eat in. From the outside, the Inn and the garden were beautiful. The inside was ok as well...could use a few repairs, but being that it was built in 1888, this didn't bother me. Also, the breakfasts were very enjoyable. They switched up the meal every morning and everything we were given was healthy and tasted fresh. I know some people have complained about the breakfasts being kind of skimpy, but I thought that the amount of food was totally appropriate and comparable to everywhere else that we ate in the area. Now on to the downsides of the inn.. We stayed in the Rose Room and the shower was terrible. The water pressure was so low that it took me close to 45 minutes to shower everyday. I know that the Inn is over a hundred years old, which probably contributes to the less than stellar plumbing, but this is something they really should warn their guests about, especially the female ones with long-ish hair. Another area where they lose points is when they let their daughters take over as the inn keepers for the night. While Sarah and Jennifer were both very pleasant, made a point to chat with the guests at breakfast, and asked if we needed anything, they did not make the bed when we left for the day. I did not know that I had to specify that we would like to come back to a made bed. I am not saying that I would never stay there again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more
