Did I just find my new favorite bakery? Yessss! Strong espresso! Gluten friendly treats! Excellent customer service! My son and I stopped at Lots-a-Knot before heading to the Wauconda Library. It's conveniently located in downtown Wauconda and is right down the street from the library. (Hear that parents? Get yourself a delicious espresso and little snack) I loved the Samoa latte with coconut and caramel. I got a medium with an extra shot of espresso bringing the count up to 3. It was strong and not overly sweet - the perfect balance. I devoured the pistachio twist (this name may be wrong) and almond orange cookie! My son loved the strawberry and hazelnut cookies too! While I was there I learned a little about the place, everything is made there, including the bread, using recipes passed down from family. I loved everything we've tried and cannot wait to go back! My cycling friends and I stopped there mid ride for coffee and pastries. While their offerings were delicious- there is no bathroom for customers to use. In the future I will lead our cycling club to the coffee shop across the street- Honey Hill. Relieving our bladders and washing our hands before eating are too essential. read more

If heaven has a bakery, it may very well be located on Main Street in beautiful downtown Wauconda, Illinois. This mother and son owner-operated Sicilian Italian bakery is unlike any other I have been to in the Chicago area, or anywhere else for that matter. Their knots (Sicilian Italian cookies) are simply amazing with long lasting flavor profiles that stimulate and engage your tastebuds and impress from beginning to end. Their crinkle cookies are also every bit as delicious. I drive about an hour each way to make the 40-mile trek here from my home near Rockford, that is how fantastic this bakery is; and doing so during the holidays has made me my family's new dessert hero. For the last two Christmases we decided to give our old school relatives a break in the kitchen and let Lots-a-Knots make the fresh cannoli for us, this took much convincing as I am sure any old school family can appreciate. Our most beloved family members did not give up the reins easily but are so glad they did, they could not believe how fresh and wonderful the candied orange cannoli tasted, every bit as good and if we're being truly honest maybe even a little bit better than homemade - it depends on who in my family was making the cannoli...hahahaha. Filling the cannoli fresh using their piping bag right before serving is a game changer let me tell you. To understand one thing, it sometimes helps to understand another. So, if you were seeking the best hot dogs in Chicago, you wouldn't just go to any old hot-dog stand you would seek out Superdawgs or Portillos and if you were looking for something a step above that and truly exotic you would go anywhere Doug Sohn (formerly of Hot Doug's) was serving up his specialty version of this iconic Chicago mainstay. If you were in the market for fine chocolate, you might very well start at Fannie May or Ghirardelli or try a little harder and maybe even head to Margie's Candies or Katherine Anne Confections; but if you were seeking the pinnacle of chocolate creations you would no doubt seek out Katrina Markoff at Vosges Haut-Chocolat for a truly mind blowing experience. Good bakery, I'm told. But, Italian Beef, not so hot. Skimpy portions, wrong flavor, wrong bun. Don't sign on for sweet peppers or giardiniara. I ordered 3 sandwiches, and the trace amount of peppers and giardiniara were enough for half of one sandwich. Nothing like the robust quantity and flavors and juicy bun you expect in a proper Italian Beef. The price was robust though. read more
