I have been eating Vietnamese food for 42yrs at home and many restaurants all over the 5 boroughs. This place is at the bottom of the list. $16 for vermicelli with shrimp that was a complete fail. First of all, there was such a little amount of noodles which is so inexpensive as an ingredient. The shrimp taste like it was boiled in water and then sliced in half, zero flavor. Fish sauce is so watered down that it couldn't even add useful flavor it desperately needed. This is what happens when you don't have Vietnamese people who own or cook the food. read more

I've ordered from here so much off ubereats they started giving me discounts for this place! Ha ha! Their vegan fish sandwich, vegan tofu pho, and beef pho are so so good! I'm not even vegan and that sandwich is addicting! So fresh and a perfect mixture of veggies and fake meat. Also, really great thai iced tea from here as well. Beef pho is great. The chicken broth was surprisingly delicious. Also a big fan of the classic banh mi. Heads up, their classic may not be what you think, it isn't straight salami, cold cuts, pate. Instead, it's a few slices of ham with a large amount of ground pork well-seasoned. It's not traditional but still very delicious. My main gripe would be the shredded chicken pho. It's the same chicken broth used for the beef pho, but the shredded chicken meat was way too salty! Unnecessarily salted, tasted 3x more sodium than the broth, might have been soaked in fish sauce. I'll give a quick review just because of my dissapointment in the sandwiches. A Banh mi is my favorite sandwich and for what this place is selling as a vietnamese sandwich for 7.95, they should be ashamed of themselves. Ordered the vegetarian pork that was obviously small pieces of soy bean that tastes exactly like soy. The seafood is pretty much a sliver of fake crab meat. Both sandwiches were mostly carrot! The place itself is a pretty bare room with a terrible orange paint on the walls and what looked to be a dozen large batteries on the floor being charged. Or maybe they were mining bitcoin. If this is one of your possible options for a viet sandwich you should take the short ride to Flushing or Elmhurst and take one of the many options there. read more

After a pho weekend comprised of Lotus 1 and another area competitor, I gotta give the trophy to Lotus, which makes for a round up of a solid 3.5 delivery option. I know my pho, am very particular about the dish, have my favorite joints throughout the city to enjoy it, and it takes a good bit to impress me. Lotus pleased me, and is a perfectly adequate and authentic pho option in the Astoria/LIC area. Nice portion sizes. Lots of flavor on that grilled pork! Nice, hot broth, with plenty of flavor on its own. I liked that the Beef Pho came with both brisket and meatballs. Very affordable pricing. Noodles kept their shape. Would have liked a bit more chew to them...but still...nice. I do wish they had a beef broth option. Though the veggie and chicken broths are both enjoyable. The summer rolls were also good. Tasty banh mis, plentiful rice dishes and delicious drinks. They have bubble tea, if that's your thing, but I enjoy the iced honey green tea. This is the worst Vietnamese restaurant ever! Never have I seen an overcooked fried egg included in a phò. This place thinks that they can make the meal better by throwing in an overfried egg. Let's break it down... Soup bland - not like the usual phò flavor Noodles - mushy- noodles should be firm to the bite Beef- total of 5 thinly sliced overcooked beef - that's all in there. Beef should be undercooked with a variety of different kinds of cuts of the beef My husband thought it would be good because of the 133 reviews they have and he also thought it would be good because he saw Asian people working in there- thought it's authentic! So I have to say....I have had better pho in my day..but for Astoria in a residential neighborhood, this was pretty good. I had the Seafood Pho with clams & jumbo shrimp. Theres really no taste in the Pho unless you put the spicy pepper & jalepenos they give you on the side. Once you put it in, the phos pretty damn good. This was my 1st time eating pho in a plastic bowl tho Ambiance...well there is no ambiance really. It looks like a new chinese take out spot. You find parking in the area if you drive, and theres really no one in there since majority of ppl order delivery. I love Vietnamese food and try to frequent as many places as possible to support the community. However, I was very disappointed in this restaurant, especially having not been to it since the pandemic. The clerk, because it was busy, began preparing the drink I ordered, but forgot that she had the same gloves on that she took cash from customers. When I asked her to please put new gloves on, she had just placed lemons in the glass, she started screaming in Vietnamese and refused. She gave me the money back and I left. Normally a decent restaurant. I ordered before and the food was good. However, this time, being small staffed and overwhelmed it became too much for them to provide good customer service. This is unfortunate because it's a cute little restaurant. We want restaurants to succeed, but succeed while being sanitary, and give good customer service. The same clerk yelled at an Asian woman who had come to pick up her order, so it wasn't just me. Maybe she had a bad day, but it was disheartening to be mistreated, especially for an $7-8 dollar soda. read more

Ordered from here in the past: food took half hour and was good. 5min delivery =garbage. House special rice had what seemed to be limp defrosted precooked shrimp cocktail from a bag. There is no doubt, it was not fresh. The meat was utterly flavorless and chewy. Ordered spicy, not one drop of sriracha. No flavor in entire dish. I've walked by this place a few times because they're next to my favorite wine bar in the neighborhood. I'm not a bahn mi fan (I hate carrots) but other than that I do love milk bubble teas, meat and rice platters and dumplings...I'm rather obsessed with dumplings actually and they're one of the few things findable in Astoria outside of your average Chinese take-out joints. There's a sign on the door that pulled me in and I was hoping I wouldn't be disappointed...it said, "$5 shrimp dumplings and $6 pork dumplings (steamed or fried)". Okay, for starters - this is a super casual spot, A.) when are shrimp dumplings ever cheaper than pork and B.) when are dumplings this overpriced for a casual spot? I paid (after tax) $7 for an order of 6 steamed pork dumplings. That's about $1.17 per dumpling and while they were undeniably delicious, they were small. For $7 I could have gotten a pint of white rice with sweet and sour chicken + a scallion pancake at my neighborhood Chinese spot. Again, not taking away that my dumplings were good...but they were good, not great...my fave spot in Manhattan (yanno, the borough we like to feel is more expensive than Queens) serves SPECTACULAR steamed pork dumplings for $3 for 11 and $2 for 7 and they're bigger, juicer and meatier dumplings. Okay, I completely missed the blossoming of Lotus 1 from what I thought was largely a boba tea spot into a pretty terrific full-fledged neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant. The omnivorous husband rated his Classic Banh Mi (pork paté and Vietnamese ham) near the top of his favorites in NYC. I was impressed with my vegan mixed vegetable pho with extra tofu added. Every ingredient seemed unusually fresh. So happy to find so much more Vietnamese food pleasure available here that I'd expected. Vietnamese eatery, resembling Chinese Style take-out with a few seatings. Although the restaurant is spacious and bright, it is more like a take-out/ order place hardly anyone dining in. The food is average. Everything seem pre-made and for convenience. All things come in plastic for dined-in. Vietnamese coffee never comes in dripping cup but again in a paper cup. Don't feel anything authentic about Vietnamese. It offers lots of bubble tea options so you might make an intelligent guess. Not bad for being one of the few Vietnamese places around me in Astoria. I stopped by yesterday to pick up some food for lunch and ordered the Grilled Chicken Banh Mi and the Beef Pho. Prices are pretty standard and the food wasn't bad. Walking in, it's not your typical Vietnamese joint that you are used to in Chinatown. Very low key. The Banh Mi was good, fresh ingredients and the bread had the prefect amount of crispy to soft ratio. The Beef Pho can satisfy your pho cravings for the time being but it's doesn't hit you in the soul like pho from those authentic Viet restaurants. All in all, quick service, fresh ingredients and pretty safe bet for when you want Viet food but can't make it to Chinatown or Flushing. read more

As my g/f likes to eat many different cuisines she particularly likes Asian foods. We had a very good experience at a Vietnamese restaurant in another town nearby. So she wanted the same cuisine again but near our home and she found this place but I don't think she really checked the reviews for this establishment with mediocre ratings and it says a lot about them. We ordered the Classic Sandwich and right off it looked very light in the amount of how much it had inside, also the taste was heh. The price doesn't equal the quantity of the sandwich. I am a bad Vietnamese because I don't know what "authentic" pho is, so relax if you don't agree, you pho snob you =). Anyhow, the clam pho was flavorful and tasty. A bit heavy handed on the noodles and twinkle toes on the clams, but no other complaints. As for the papaya salad, it was also delicious - the papaya was fresh and crunchy. My nose thanks you for using vinaigrette "dressing" instead of fish sauce and peanuts instead of dried shrimp. Another awesome aspect of this place is their various vegetarian/vegan options. I'm thrilled to see something finally open up on the corner of 31st Ave and 42nd street. I've lived nearby for almost a year and a half and was sick of seeing prime-time real estate being wasted away by graffiti and notices taped to the window. Therefore, when I learned that not only a restaurant was moving in, but a Vietnamese restaurant, I had heart palpitations due to my pure excitement. Lotus 1 is perfect for convenience and price. A hefty bowl of beef pho comes out to $8.50, which is among one of the cheapest prices I've paid. The pho broth is better than good, however doesn't blow me away. The bahn mi could sink a submarine, and comes out to about $7. A small detail that I enjoy about their take-out pho (I know this is small, that's why I prefaced) is the fact that they give you a large plastic bowl to mix everything into/eat from. I highly dislike when the broth is in a take-out container that is only big enough for the broth, and not the noodles and accoutrements. If I could give some advice, I would ask that Lotus 1 give out limes, not lemons, with their pho. This is small but crucial to perfect pho balance. Maybe also work on improving the intensity of the broth. All in all, I am thrilled to see Lotus 1 occupying the once vacant corner! read more

This Vietnamese takeout restaurant sits on a corner that's 2 blocks away from Steinway Street, where the shopping outnumbers the good eating, and everything seems to close before 8pm on a Sunday. You won't find any other cheap Asian food within a 6-block radius aside from Chinese takeout joints. I won't count a moderately priced Thai place, and a ramen restaurant where a Hinomaru bowl is $13. Lotus 1 does delivery, takes credit card ($10 minimum), and you don't have to tip. For seating, there's a long counter along one wall with an outlet, and two tables that seat 4 people each. The bathroom is clean and large. For $8.95, you get to pick a type of pho. Aside from beef (no tripe or tendons or anything like that), there were several vegetarian choices along with pork, chicken, and seafood. I asked for their recommendation and got the Grilled Chicken. Meat portions were generous and served on the side. The chicken came in strips and bits, tasted like teriyaki, and were slightly seared. I also got the expected plate of bean sprouts, cut jalapeños, and a slice of lime; these were laid out on two large pieces of lettuce. Hoisin and chili sauce bottles are available at the counter. I knew it wouldn't be authentic (the broth didn't taste meaty and rich, and the noodles were simply passable), but I wanted a hot noodle soup on a cold night and it was totally worth it. read more

I got the vegan chicken sandwich + the fries, it was good. But I'm only leaving a review to give a shout out to the staff. On a very busy Sunday there was only one woman working. She was the waitress and working the counter - preparing the drinks, packing all the take out + delivery orders, answering the phone, taking orders in the restaurant and ringing people up all by herself!! There was a customer basically harassing the staff due to misinterpreting everything, and being very extreme and rude with her. The staff member was trying to her best to be patient and accommodate by offering the food and drink for free, but the customer was disrupting the whole flow of the restaurant and even bothering other customers. So if you see any bad reviews from this same time frame..... I would take it with a grain of salt... I got bahn mi and summer rolls delivered from Lotus 1 the other day. They were both just OK, nothing to be amazed of. I liked the contents of bahn mi a lot, but not the bread. The bread is soft but there are much better breads out there that they could use for the bahn mi! Take Cyclo for example, their bahn mi bread is so good you won't even think about leaving it even if you're full. I understand how Lotus 1 can survive in the neighborhood because the food is decent and there aren't that many Vietnamese restaurants in the area, but I wouldn't order another delivery unless they step up their game. read more

Lotus 1 is a solid delivery joint with reliable food. I've only ordered delivery from this establishment so I can't comment on the location itself, but the delivery has always been on time if not early and the portions are quite generous. We've tried the vegetarian fish with rice noodle, grilled pork rice dish, and the classic sandwich. The noodle/rice/salad dishes are all under $10 each and is plenty of food for a person with an average appetite. The sandwiches are huge and will cost you ~$7, which is a steal compared to some banh mi places in the city.
