From the initial consultation to the completion of the job, the process was relatively seamless. I upgraded my electric from 100 amp to 200 on my 120 year old house. Additionally, the fuse box was moved away from the laundrey room to a safer location (away from water). The wiring was neatened, the new box is excellent and upgrades were done to the outside of my home too. I was pleased and will consider them again for future electrical work. I did have to do more clean up than anticipated though it was fairly minimal. read more

Had an issue just outside my home one late afternoon on a Thursday, as a knocked over telephone poll took out out power to my home (along with removing something called a Weathertop from the meter aside of my house). Being told I needed to have an electrician reinstall that for me, and looking to get this resolved as quickly as possible, I found Castle's information online, and was able to talk to someone that night, and created an appointment for Friday morning. Called various electrical services and they wired me what it would cost per hour as an estimate without seeing the job. so it felt like it was very likely for the job I would do it may end up costing a lot more especially since they hadn't inspected the job. Castle electric had a reasonable hourly rate and although they have a quote fee, that amount is put towards the job if you choose to use them. well I liked the quoted amount(s) after they inspected the job and how much it would cost, they gave me the possible costs based on what they thought and it ended up costing me the lower of the 2 estimates they provided. they even quoted a couple of jobs I have been thinking of for the future. read more

After three years of dealing with badly wired circuits, 3 calls to different electricians, over $3000 spent, and my reports disbelieved, Jessica was so amazing. As i asked a service for my broke down main breaker on May 27th , the lady on the phone pronounced a service cost about $100.00 , I gave my Credit Card #, service came and the work was done, ok . but now as I received the credit card statement I saw $585.00 has been charged ! . This is an outrageous amount simply dupery and not acceptable for a 20 minutes work without any material used, just to have the breaker switch on. EMERGENCY SERVICE - Power surge and fireball hit my main service line outside my home, It burned out my power line, grounds lines, meter, and main service box. The issue started a fire on the house and in my lawn. A great deal had to be changed and fixed. Without power, as well as 100 homes around me. Power company came and fixed the cause from the poles, but my power service, feed lines, ground wires, and the entire service box was all compromised. And this happened on a Friday afternoon. Castle Electric came out same afternoon and assessed the damage and work needed. It was a huge amount of work. They assembled a weekend crew that worked the weekend and had my entire power service rebuilt and installed by Monday. The workers were knowledgeable and management stayed on top of things. He figured out my issue within a half hour and installed two wired smoke detectors in no time. I was impressed with his friendliness and knowledge. I'd rate about 4.5 stars and round up to 5 stars to support local business. Overall a very positive experience. We needed electricians for a project and after getting several quotes, we decided to go with Castle Electric. Their quote was very competitive. The initial contact was via Yelp, where we were asked to call to schedule a free consultation estimate. Tracy was able to schedule us something within the week. Jim came out right on time and was very friendly. After we accepted the quote, two staff members came out to work on the project. They actually came 30 mins before the appointment window, and completed the work within about two hours or so. Reason for 4.5 stars is because we had trouble reaching Jim for a technical question after the initial consultation. It was a relatively straightforward question, but took us a week and half to get confirmation. We emailed and spoke to Tracy a couple of times, and understandably Jim was out of the office so couldn't get back to us right away. Highly recommend them. read more

When you have big time electrical problems, these are the people you want to call. TLDR: Our electrical feed was failing and with winter approaching we needed it fixed ASAP. The awesome people at Castle Electric moved Heaven and Earth to make that happen. Such a pleasure to work with, would hire again. The Whole Story: Our lights were flickering all throughout the house as if it were haunted. We ultimately found out that the hot wire connected to our meter was completely corroded and was the likely culprit. With cold weather coming up fast, we needed this to be taken care of ASAP. With no time to shop around, I called up Castle Electric on a Friday, hoping I wasn't going to get some asshole that would play games with us. To my delight, they were very nice on the phone and they sent out a team to conduct an assessment on the following Monday (which was a holiday I might add so I greatly appreciate that.). Arrived right at 7:30am like they said they would. Conducted the assessment and presented their recommendations. Both people were super nice and easy to talk to. We ultimately decided now was the time to do the 200 Amp service upgrade. Price wasn't cheap, but given the amount of work involved, I felt it was fair. Within an hour after they left, I get a call from their office to start the work THE NEXT DAY. That was music to my ears. I was really stressed the whole weekend and to hear that the flickering was going to get taken care of was a huge sigh of relief. On to Tuesday, the technicians showed up bright and early (7:30am). Different people but just as much of a pleasure to work with as the ones that came before. They wasted no time and got right to work and by 1:15, WE HAD POWER. When I went to review the work, I instantly got the impression they took great pride in their work. All the breakers were neatly labelled, nothing looked or felt like it was reused, they cleaned up after themselves, and best of all, the outside feed was all BRAND NEW and up to modern standards. They even fixed the pull string for the light I broke in the utility closet a few months and didn't charge me for it and I really appreciate that. Something I totally wasn't expecting them to do. Let's just say after all of this, I had no problems going to sleep that night. So if you've made it this far, I hope this helps you in your decision. This company charges the standard $95 dispatch fee, but there's also a $250 per hour diagnosis fee that was not disclosed (despite my direct asking before hire). Luckily my issue was minor and only required 15 minutes to diagnose before fixing the issue - but that could be a major factor for some project decisions. read more

Update added after speaking with the business owner: I had a good conversation with Jim, and I no longer believe this business is trying to scam its customers. However, I do believe this company has process issues and communication shortcomings to address. Speaking with Jim, I was finally provided with a set of simple first repair steps that were performed by the technician sent out, so it is not fair to say the company did nothing. But it is important to note that the company considers the $250 dispatch fee to cover some sort of full house evaluation that it says puts it in a better position to serve its customers by understanding the whole electrical system. That may well be true, but I tried to explain to Jim that as a customer, to be told that the issue I asked to be corrected was not fully addressed, and that instead they wanted to follow up with a sales call to let me know about all the things they'd like to upgrade in my house, the feeling is that the company is primarily interested in maximizing its profit. I believe Jim when he says this is not the intent, but my belief is that the process they have in place has unintended consequences. In addition, their technician failed to record the steps she took, which is why it took so long for me to get any accounting of what had been done, and the technician also failed to reach out to the tenant (as instructed) when she was unable to immediately reach me (two calls three minutes apart, it turns out--a rather quick timeframe to bail out on the job in my opinion). I told Jim that I hope they will improve their processes and that I will be able to get a quote from them at some point in the future when I am ready to make more significant electrical changes. I would be happy to give them another chance. I do believe my experience was about the worst case for this company and not representative of their usual work. Nonetheless, my experience was my experience, and it should be understood to be within the range of outcomes for working with Castle Electric until they make improvements. read more

First, this company is very expensive, even for an electrician, Before coming, you receive a dizzying amount of texts, emails and calls reminding you of your appointment. 1 The first appointment involved putting in a bedroom ceiling fan light and assessing why a recessed kitchen LED wasn't working. After all the appointment annoyances, they then called to arrive two hours early. The main electrician , while he knew his business, never stopped talking, asking all sorts of intrusive personal questions, as though he was my friend. His assistant, who wasn't necessary, walked all around the house by himself, without supervision, out of eyesight, making me very nervous. The electrician installed the light, said he needed to order a part for the kitchen LED, and had me sign a contract to return to install it. 2 2nd appointment- again, the barrage of reminders. Then, they called when it was time to show up to inform me tht the part hadn't arrived. Who would make an appointment before having the necessary part, and not let you know until the appointment time? Now I need yet another appointmen. I was offered a 5% discount, which doesn't begin to cover the inconvenience and excessive cost. read more

For a technician to come it is $95, fixed. After coming, to diagnose the issue it is $175, fixed, which was not told upfront. I was under the assumption that $95 includes the diagnostic fees. My issue was very simple and it took only 2 min to diagnose, which is a loose connection. $270 for seemed a lot for 10 min drive and 2 min work. I was in search of someone to perform a Recessed Lighting IC Sign-Off for Mass Save and was drawn to Castle because of their excellent reviews. I called one morning to inquire and was greatly pleased to hear that they could have someone come as soon as 11 AM the same day. Tracey who took my call was completely upfront about what I could expect out of the visit, so there was no chance of surprises. The team arrived right on time. They were highly professional, receptive to questions, and took great care to ensure that they left my home in a clean state. While on-site, they found one light in my shower that was not IC-rated, explained to me how to properly interpret the label, and replaced it during the same visit for a reasonable fee in far less time than it would have taken me. They made sure to ask for my preference about color temperature and silicone application before completing the exceptionally neat installation. I was elated to have the signed IC form in my email inbox the next morning. I would be happy to call Castle again for any future electrical needs. read more

Hired Castle to mitigate knob and tube wiring throughout a 1915 American Foursquare, which effectively amounted to rewiring the entire antique home. Their initial estimate was fair and the final bill came to just about (even a tiny bit less than) that estimate. They completed the extensive project on schedule. The project's foreperson/lead, Mike, was friendly, reliable, professional, skilled ... - all that you could hope for in someone responsible for such a large project. He communicated throughout the project and fully and thoroughly answered any questions I had. He also offered helpful options and suggestions when appropriate. Mitigating knob and tube throughout a home necessitates cutting a fair number of holes into the walls and ceilings. The home is about a 25% drywall/75% horsehair plaster. Mike and his team minimized the number and size of the holes to the extent that the plasterers who followed all remarked without prompting that the electricians knew what they were doing. All of the work met or exceeded expectations. We wouldn't hesitate to hire them again and would recommend them to family and friends. We had a 240 volt outlet installed in our utility area to power a whole-home humidifier. The work was completed as described. Scheduling was very easy; the electricians were very professional. They cleaned up after themselves and did good work. Everyone I spoke with was very friendly and professional. The price was higher than other estimates for the work completed. It cost $750, but I chose Castle because the individual who came to the house initially to provide the estimate was very courteous and seemed knowledgeable, and they have great reviews. As others have said, their practices are very scammy and "gaslighty". I should have spent at MOST half the amount I paid for. I've never seen or heard of the practices this company employs, it's clear as mud. You have no choice other than to accept their terms or you are out of $100-250 to get them to simply come to your door. Then, without any warning, to get them to simply diagnose your problem you have so sign something on the spot to allow them to do that for a FEE AT THE TIME OF SERVICE, I was lied to and told that was part of the service and I would get a discount, so I was forced to sign something to get them to diagnose the issue (which by the way had no idea what I was signing as there was nothing to read?). THEN I was charged $300 for a ~$50 part in addition to the diagnosing. I am so angry to get absolutely scammed by these people. I almost thought I should do a charge back, but I'll just warn people instead. Also, I am sure they will respond to this review saying something like "we explain the pricing structure", I'm sorry but if you really want to make this experience less stupid how about take that $100 fee and roll it into the service? Josiah and Guiseppe were at my home for 5 hours today performing a variety of work. They were absolutely awesome! All of the work was performed in a professional manner, with great attention to detail. I was especially pleased that they were able to install six recessed lights without having to make further holes in the walls or ceilings in order to run wiring to the applicable switch boxes. They also cleaned up after themselves. They explained everything which they planned to do at the outset, and conferred with me numerous times along the way. They were also incredibly personable. This was totally surprising. I had a two (LED) bulb fixture that was doing weird things. One of the bulbs only partially lit and, rather than just going off, would fade out when I turned the switch to off. They checked the socket and said that the fixture was getting power but that the wiring in the fixture needed to be redone. (That seemed implausible since they were saying that the power supply was fine in the socket but that somewhere upstream in the fixture something was wrong. I don't know how good power in the socket means something upstream has gone wrong). On their website they say that they do lighting fixtures but in person they said that they don't rewire fixture so couldn't look at the fixture. But instead, they offered to do a total assessment of my electrical service and told me that l need to have the circuit breaker box, which is only ~15 years old, and the outside service needed to be replaced. The estimate was $8400. Before I did that I had a friend who teaches electrical engineering take a quick look. He diagnosed the fixture problem in less than 5 seconds. No kidding. He pointed out that electronics in LED bulbs sometimes go bad giving weird outcomes like my light...turning on only partially and then fading when turned off. He said he had seen it many times in his home and in those of other friends. He was 100% correct. He also said that, although my circuit box was at capacity, there was no need to change it or the service. So Castle missed a simple diagnosis that literally only required a new bulb but recommended a $8400 job that really didn't need to be done. read more
