every time I'm on the Kenai Peninsula, i come to Louie's. The first time i didn't know about Louie's, so i didn't know whether, it was good, bad, or somewhere in between. A friend of ours brought us here, and we ordered appetizers that time too. Now though, i DEMAND to come here. I won't eat anywhere else on the peninsula. sometimes there's a wait. It's truly worth waiting for. Fortunately on this occasion, i called ahead to reserve a table, while my friend was getting pulled over by a cop for speeding (I'm lmao, because we were 2 hangry women, and going way too fast down Kenai Spur Road to get to Louie's) so while she's doing the yadda yadda, I'm calling ahead to reserve a table. Fortunately there was lots of availability, so i was told to just come on in. So we get there, starving. I do this self same thing every time. I forget they have GIGANTIC, appetizers. BROBDINGNAGIAN appetizers (google it, it's a great word for you to save for future use) and i forget, so i order 2 Appetizers, and so does she. Then end up being totally floored by the size of the appetizers and not being able to eat them all. This time i got Alaskan Steamer Clams, and Cheesy Bacon Fries, She got Button Mushrooms, and Blackened Prime Bites. 3 of these dishes came with Garlic Bread. Our server came, loaded down with plates, and said I'll be back with the rest. I was presented with, what can only be described as a very large aluminum bucket of Steamer Clams drowning in house nectar, and a vast platter of bacon cheesy fries. I was overcome with performance anxiety about my ability to consume all of this. She was given 2 big dishes - 1 with beautiful looking button mushrooms, the other with Prime Rib Bites. I don't like Prime Rib. But i love mushrooms, so we just Family Styled it all the way, The Steamer Clams were succulent, juicy, tender, and the nectar was absolutely creamy, delicious and savoury. I should have just gotten those. I couldn't resist her mushrooms though, i absolutely love mushrooms. I was only able to manage a couple of bites of my garlic bread. She was being very helpful with my Steamer Clams, and agreed they were delicious. Louie's is a must, if you're on the Peninsula, whether you're a local, or from out of town (We're from Anchorage) or a tourist would absolutely love it in here. There's lots of hunting trophies on the walls. The food is of consistent good quality, though to be honest, I've yet to order an Entree, because i can't even get past the Appetizer menu, and wanting ALLLLLLL the things!! Their food is so good, i have to give the full 5 stars. The service is spectacular, the staff are super friendly, and i will continue to be their from-out-of-town-regular, whenever I'm down here. Awesome Job Louie's, keep up the great wor

Came here on a Monday night. It was one of the top recommendations by our Airbnb host and one of the more highly reviewed places on Yelp. Even though it was less than an hour before closing, the place was packed and we had about a 3-4 min wait in the connected motel lobby. There's so much fun decor to check out (mostly taxidermy of local Alaskan wildlife), we didn't mind the short wait at all. We were seated at a booth, but the seats were a bit dirty and my husband had to wipe his own seat first. I did appreciate the vase of real flowers at our table though. We were seated next to a rare Alaskan fox, a black bear, and a large moose head, which were cool to look at. My husband was eyeing the loaded nachos and asked the waitress if he could add halibut to it (the original menu item does come with taco meat). The waitress was very friendly and went back to check the pricing for us, and confirmed it was an extra $16. My husband on a whim decided to go from the half order to the full supreme, totaling $26+16. I went for a Halibut Oscar, and was shocked at the sticker price of $53. If you argue there's 5 small quarter sized bites of Alaskan king crab driving up the price, the halibut on its own was $49 as a menu item above it. I also added a clam chowder. The clam chowder and the sourdough bread came first and almost immediately. Maybe we were hungry after a half day of kayaking in Seward the same morning, but the clam chowder was by far one of the top three I've had in this lifetime. The sourdough left a lot to be desired though. Then came the nachos. It was a MOUNTAIN. It also came with at least a cup of salsa and cup of sour cream. The waitress was helpful and preemptively brought extra napkins. We were laughing how huge it was and how on earth was my husband going to eat it all (disclaimer, he barely made a dent). We remarked our surprise to our waitress, and she said she already thought the half order was too much for him, and exclaimed that she figured he must have been extra hungry to have ordered the supreme. Problem is, if that were the case, she never explained or indicated that might be the situation, which would have definitely changed his order size preference. This was disappointing to say the least. The halibut on his nachos were little pieces of broiled fish (same as the one on my plate) and was a bit dry to be enjoyable, but granted it was a strange combo I'm sure that they don't get often. But then we noticed there was no taco meat in his dish. Did they swap it out for the halibut instead of the requested in addition to? Another disappointment. The king crab that came with my dish was good but the pieces were sparse and very small. The halibut, similar to my husband's, was a bit dry (some parts were juicy and flavorful, but more than half was on the drier side). The portion size seemed smaller than I'd have liked for the price point. Overall everything on my plate was lukewarm. The dish overall was nothing to write home about for sure. By the way, the side of veggies was green beans with bacon which made it tasty, but if you prefer not to have bacon, I don't think there was indication on the menu that there would be any, so you wouldn't even think to tell your waitstaff about your dietary preferences or restrictions. At the end, we had paid (a whopping $130 including tip), the waitress asked if we wanted containers to take my husband's nachos home, and also asked if we wanted containers for our salsa and sour cream. Given my husband finished half his salsa, I asked if we could get a little extra to go. She said not a problem, but when she came back she brought a small 1/4 cup container of extra salsa, along with a new bill with adjusted pricing to include $1.50 of salsa. Again, she didn't indicate the added charge. Between the mediocre food, the staggering price point, and most definitely the waitress who didn't disclose information that would have have impacted our orders (and wanted a larger bill and thus a larger tip), this was a disappointing part of our one day stay in Kenai for sure.

Such a cute lil place. We drove down from Anchorage for the weekend and had never eaten here. Great breakfast, excellent service and ambiance! :)

Had a nice pre Mother's Day dinner while down on the peninsula for grand kids sports. Place had great food and service. Looks like an original Alaskan place. Had the crab and Fillet steak. Would eat there again.

This is a great spot on the Kenai peninsula in Alaska. A great happening spot full of steakhouse vibe serving great steak and cocktails. A lot of food I will say but when you're out in the fresh air fishing all day it's a great reward. Wonderful service and full of happy employees. They fired these steaks to perfection. A very busy and festive place and for good reason but they also manage to handle it well. They make a mean martini to boot. If you're ever in the neighborhood be sure to check this place out!

Great portions, food was seasoned just right, quick and fast service. It is in the front of a hotel, which threw us off but don't let that scare you away. The decor is filled with big animals that you can look at and kept our little one entertained

What a place! Alaskan hunter decorated theme, lots of animals mounted on the walls. Had a really fun time here. I got the Hunters skillet. My boyfriend (it's his birthday!) got the king louie plate. Everything was so so good. Especially the hash browns and biscuits and gravy. They also gave us a slice of cheesecake for my bfs bday which was delicious!

Bar area covers one entire end. Love this decor.

Worst overpriced meal I have EVER had. Do not go here. Filet was 1" thick and fatty. King salmon tasted like bumble bee chunk tuna

We had crab and lobster and they were both fabulous. The baked potatoes and sourdough bread were top notch.

Definitely a local place. The food was bland like a plate at Dennys. I would not suggest this place to anyone.

Like a lot of people, I started working in restaurants from the age of 15. I was fortunate enough to work up high enough to train as an Executive Chef. I also was a Server and Bartender as part of my training so I appreciate the work restaurant staff perform. I always tip very well, even when the food or drink delivery is slow because I know it isn't the Servers fault on most occasions. The review: so sad to write this review, but this is Truth! ....After waiting almost 1 hr and 10 minutes (we had a reservation), for the first time ever in my life, I paid for our drinks and left. The menu looked awesome, I was excited to try the food. But we should have known the minute we walked in when we weren't acknowledged that either management or crew training was lacking. We were early for our reservation and waited patiently to be recognized but that did not happen. We stepped up and let the two people know we were early and would be happy to sit at the bar to wait. The staff talked and then seated us at our two-top. To be fair, let me also mention that my wife has been a Server for the majority of her life in the US and Caribbean. We both love and appreciate what Servers persevere through. So, we are seated and water is poured immediately. Cool. Then quite a delay for a server for drinks. She shows up, takes the order but it is approximately 15 minutes before we get our drinks. I am looking around at this not so large place where a lot of personnel are moving but nothing seems coordinated. I notice an 8-top to my right that has drinks and appetizer plates (never saw food) sitting and looking around. They are my baseline.... So we finally get the glass of wine and beer and are asked if we are ready to order. We know the gig....order now! So we order the Caesar salad, Beets, and 1/2 dozen oysters as our appetizer and our two entrees, thinking that this will help. We wait patiently (the restaurant was perhaps 70% occupancy in the middle of prime Salmon fishing) but I defer back to the statement that although people were moving a lot... not a lot seemed to be happening. After one hour and 6 minutes, we received on additional water fill up and one beer. The 8-top still had not received food. The 4 guys to my right were telling jokes and passing time but no food or extra drinks. After both of us took bathroom breaks, we decided to leave. We went to the Hostess station (which may also be their cashout station?), and asked for our tab. Miraculously, as we were pulling out cash for our drinks, the Server walks out with my oysters and the salad. She recognized that we were paying out and stated the restaurant was "backed up with orders". Give me a f$&@&$@ break. Really!!!! We paid, went to my local standby at Louie's Backdoor, got a full order of Halibut Fish'nchips with piping hot delivery in about 7 minutes. I have never left a bad review. I typically try to praise both the quality of Service and food. Not so in this case. I will never step foot in this place again and will tell all locals not to waste their time. If I could leave a less than 1-star I would.
