Do I recommend Veronica's? Yes, yes and yes!!!!!!! First, oh how cute is this restaurant. It reminded me of a little quaint house in a Russian or polish village. The decor was cute. I even loved the 'follow the yellow brick road' to the bathroom. I loved our waitress, a sweetheart. Or maybe she was the owner? Her husband is a firefighter. Now onto the food. .. it's awesome that you get to try a taste of soup before getting a cup or bowl of it. I chose the clam chowder. BEST clam chowder I have ever had. And I had ham and Swiss sandwich with cold pasta. Can I insert a drooling emoji. The flavors of EVERYTHING I ordered was out of this world. Made a pit stop to fuel up on our way to Homer. Saw this place pop up top 5 on Yelp & TripAdvisor so naturally had to go there. Veronica's is a super cute quaint little place tucked away in the back of downtown. You seat yourself, we were greeted immediately by a server and drinks brought to us. Specials was a turkey bacon sandwich on a pretzel bun and something else I can't remember. Soup of the day was African Peanut and Vegetable. We weren't sure which we wanted. Luckily we got a sample of both and opted for the African Peanut one. Ordered: Chicken cashew sandwich on a pretzel bun w/ pasta salad Turkey provolone on a croissant bun w/ pasta salad Added a cup of African Peanut soup It was plentiful and delicious. I personally like a bit crunchiness so, I was happy camper. Service was good they keep an eye on you if you need anything. Restroom is the green outside you just follow the gold path on the floor. Swung through for midday coffee only, so cannot comment on their food. What a hot mess! I think you order both food and drinks at the counter by the door, which is where the espresso machine is. But also there's table service, so I don't know if the counter is reserved for to-go orders or not? The surly staff were of no help whatsoever, so we sat ourselves at a table while waiting for our mochas and iced tea. And waited. And waited. And waited. Seems the young person taking orders was also in charge of making drinks, and she was too busy with the long line to get to bevs. It took forever. Even the iced tea, which I believe is pre-mixed, took ages to arrive. They use a cocoa powder for their mochas, so don't expect anything great here. Very confusing as to whether they would be calling out orders or bringing them to us. We were seated far enough out of earshot that we kept alternating between waiting at the counter and at our table. Will skip Veronica's next time. read more

Although it looks a little well-used from the outside, once you step inside you're transported into a lovely little coffee shop setting. I love going here to study chemistry and grab a lotus energy drink. The baristas and staff are all very bright-eyed and caring. I've never once felt shooed out of the way or curtly attended to, the staff takes the time to make their customers feel welcome and appreciated here. My favorite soup they offer is the chicken wild rice: the chicken meat chunks are large enough that you feel all proteined up, but not too large that it's a task to chomp it down. The flavors and the broth itself is so creamy and inviting, perfectly flexible for any sort of weather outside. The roast beef and cheddar sandwich is a common snack of mine. They do not skimp on the roast beef but make sure that you get wonderful layers of the meat with every bite, it fills you up! If you're still hungry and finishing the sandwich, they include their famous pasta salad which is so light and refreshing. This place is perfect for a lunch date, an escape to study, or a reason to bask in the sunlight at one of their outdoor tables with an Italian soda. Highly recommend! read more

Came in for lunch on a rainy day in Kenai. Despite the rain, this little cafe was bustling with people. You go inside and seat yourself. There's the cabin area where you enter, then walk a little further to find the glass house! I sat in the corner and enjoyed my view. The decorations are so quaint. I ordered the special of the day- turkey BLT in a pretzel bun. Sounds pretty standard but the sandwich was phenomenal. It had an amazing apricot aeoli that I will forever dream of... It came with a side of chips and vegetable soup. The soup was a little bland but was loaded with veggies and still warmed my insides. I would most definitely come again. I had a fantastic croissant sandwich with side salad here. Cute little place with a fun vibe. Slow to get service initially but once they started it was very good and food came promptly. The bathroom is outside access and rough for anyone with ambulatory issues (VERY narrow doors from the outside room where we were). Totally removed from anything commercial, this little cozy restaurant in Kenai was awesome! It was the middle meal for my best food day in Alaska, and if I lived closer at all I would definitely go back again and again. It's very obviously a renovated house with mismatching furniture and a very unpretentious, homey feel. We were lucky enough to visit on a beautiful day and enjoy the outdoor seating they had available. There's nothing like taking in beautiful weather while being surrounded by a garden bursting with colors. Definitely very relaxing and I noticed a couple people around who had long finished their meals and had lingered to read or catch up. Food wise they offer fare I thought I would be more likely to see in Cali. They seem to be using fresh ingredients for food that probably doesn't take much fuss, but is simply good because of the quality of ingredients, and they definitely have vegetarian options. They offer sandwiches, wraps, quiche, salad (all home-made dressing), delicious soups, and what they call "life changing" desserts. All around the food was wonderful - the soups were hearty and not the standard chowder or minestrone options. The pasta salad was great and cornbread hit the spot. Everybody was very pleased with their orders. Lots of coffee options, tons and tons of Republic of Tea flavors, daily specials, and live music friday and saturday nights! (the only time they're open for dinner) The prices were a tad steep, averaging $10-$11 for the entree, but for homemade everything, great ingredients and execution, and a meal that leaves you full, it's worth it. Seriously, if you're passing through Kenai, just stop by for a quick bite. read more

We spotted this cute little place while we were driving around the town. The restaurant was already closed when we arrived around 8pm so we couldn't enjoy the food. But I couldn't help noticing their beautiful landscaping and decoration. Every corner of this place is like a studio background for photographs. I ended up taking 800 photos under the tree outside the restaurant. We will be back another day to actually try the food, I bet it tastes really good too. read more

We love this place! It's a quaint old kitschy place that looks like it may be falling apart some day; but, while it's standing, we'll keep on coming for a nice meal, and good dry cappuccino. The sandwiches and soups are always good, but we really like the Hungarian Mushroom Soup. So much so, that we try to stop by on Tuesdays when that soup is usually available. So, what really makes this place fun and enjoyable is our banter with "Neal" (only his mom is allowed to call him by his full name!). Neal always gives friendly, extra good customer service, and it is always fun for us to catch up on all sorts of goings-on with him. Quite often, we sit in the sunroom and love the loud conversations going on all around us ... we listen to others, and they listen to us, always with smiles! lol If there's a large lunch group seated in the sunroom, Katie bar the door! Definitely a local's sort of hangout with an established group of regulars. Quaint, old building that's cutely decorated and has a cool patio that overlooks the water. A little off the beaten path, so it's not like you'll drive by it and see it from the main road. The menu is small, but seems to be enough of a selection that lets you know that these are handmade, fresh items. Lots of choices for your tea I was a little underwhelmed with my veggie sandwich, and I figure that someone who isn't keen on vegetables created the recipe, because it was lacking. It was small, on grocery store sandwich bread-sized pieces, with hummus (that was really good and I think it was homemade), some shaved carrots, cucumbers, and cabbage. That's it! It came with a tiny sampling of pasta salad (~8 rigatoni, so only a couple of bites worth) and a pickle slice, and for almost twelve bucks, I would have expected something more substantial. My companion's meal was small as well, but he enjoyed it. The espresso brownie warmed up with ice cream.. was.. to.. DIE. FOR. It was so rich, I ate the rest of it over the course of the next couple of days. Halfway through our meal, there was live music going on. We were seated at the patio, and it wasn't loud enough to interrupt conversation. It seemed like there was a nice big group there. Acoustic music in a quaint cottage that has a great view.. pretty nice place. I don't know if I'd plan coming here if I were ravenous -- unless I wanted to supplement my meal with a giant brownie -- but it's definitely a tasty place. read more
