Entree of fish fillet, the Chardonnay wine and restaurant were so so charming. Waiters were so receptive. Tre bien! Warm surroundings and hot meal blended well for our 40th anniversary

It was wonderful from beginning to end! The staff spoke English and was very helpful with opinions and suggestions. They answered all questions. Service was exemplary. Melanie is a gem. The location was walking distance from our hotel in an old stone walled building with outdoor seating, equipped with heaters. The food options were varied and interesting. The wine list was huge with so many wonderful options. We went twice in five days!

    Duck breast entree (take out)

We did take out for dinner from Louis Hebert on our first night in Quebec City. We ordered the duck breast and beef cheek. The duck was extremely small portion and not good. I didn't expect perfectly crispy skin on a takeout order, but I still expected better. They didn't score the skin prior to cooking, so the skin was not rendered properly and very soggy. The duck meat itself was cooked to a nice med-rare temperature but the meat was still very chewy and tough. The parsnip puree was too sweet for my taste. Would definitely recommend passing on this entree and getting something else. Now on to the beef cheek. This one was a more decent sized portion and it was delicious. The beef was fall-apart tender and had amazing flavour. The sauce was not over-powering and very well balanced. The mashed potato was creamy and silky smooth. I would highly recommend this dish! Overall, I loved the beef cheek but thought the duck breast was one of the worst I've had. It was a take out order, so hopefully the dine-in experience is better.

Three words best describe this restaurant: intimate, upscale and delicious. It's not the type of restaurant that you want to take the whole family, you know with grandma and the kids. But rather, it's a good restaurant to take a date. Inside there's lots of character, stone fireplaces, flickering candle lights, tiny tables....you get the idea. The inside sort of surprised me because I didn't have high expectations before walking in. I mean, there was an employee standing outside trying to lure customers with their $29 special dinner. I passed on the special and ended up ordering from the standard menu. And boy, what I received was fabulous. If you want French, you'll get French here. I had a cod fish confit dish that was truly divine. See my picture. My waitress was a super cute girl who could barely speak any English. But that didn't bother me one bit. In all honesty, I'd feel disappointed if I went to Québec and everyone spoke English. Plus, I find that female French accent oh so damn attractive..... Oh là là.

My first 5 stars in Quebec City. This place was featured romantic and relaxing. I ordered Nordic Shrimps, they gave me quite big amount of oyster, scallop and shrimps. It came w creamy sauce which was very tasty. The service was great, efficient and gentle.

So close to perfection! I would recommend getting the Table d' Hote which allows one to choose and appetizer, entree and dessert for a low price of $59. I chose the Salmon Three Ways for my appetizer - the tartare was the BEST! Ed got the scallops which were so good! For my entree I chose the beef tenderloin - the portion was huge! Ed had the guinea hen and raved about it. We were definitely slowing down and getting full and still had the dessert course! Both of us had the creme brûlée and it also did not disappoint! The service was so good too - very attentive! Make a reservation and plan to be there for a couple of hours to fully enjoy the experience!

While we were walking alone the street and read every restaurant menus outside in the cold (-36°F), we were led to the restaurant by this this girl who was guarding the front door. The restaurant had a warm and relaxing and French style atmosphere. The menu items were about 33-/+ and the food was absolutely delicious. However, I was surprised and a bit unhappy to find out that the tips were already included in the bill. I had a feeling that this was only me because we were tourists and they're afraid that we wouldn't tip 15%+ although I normally do 15-17% depending on the service...thus the 4 star. I don't think a 5 star restaurant would include tips in their bill.

With the dynamic trio of Philippe Racine, Philippe Fournier, and Andréa Beauseigle at the helm, this newly minted bistro is not just a meal; it's an experience that speaks to the heart of local gastronomy. As we stepped into the inviting atmosphere of Bistro St. Malo, we were immediately struck by the relaxed ambience that feels both chic and comforting. The decor is a perfect marriage of rustic elegance and modern flair, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The menu, crafted with both passion and precision, beckoned us to explore a variety of tempting dishes. We kicked off our culinary journey with the Mussels Marinière, bathed in a heavenly concoction of wine and garlic. Each bite was a succulent reminder of the sea, perfectly paired with crusty bread that could easily become a new best friend. Next on the list was the Soupe à l'Oignon, a classic French onion soup that was nothing short of a warm hug in a bowl. The rich broth, adorned with a gooey layer of melted cheese, transported us straight to a cozy Parisian bistro. Now, if you think escargots are just a fancy way to say "snails," think again. The Escargots Gratinés at Bistro St. Malo are a revelation, baked to perfection with a garlicky herb butter that made us rethink our long-held beliefs about these little treasures. For the main event, we indulged in the Joue de Bœuf sauce Robert, a sous-vide masterpiece that had been lovingly cooked for 30 hours. The beef cheek was so tender it practically melted on the fork, paired with a creamy potato purée and vegetables roasted in duck fat--a dish that could make even the most steadfast vegetarian reconsider their choices. We couldn't resist diving into the Ragoût de la Mer, a seafood stew that was a celebration of the ocean's bounty. With scallops, shrimp, lobster, cod, tuna, and salmon mingling in a rich bisque, this dish was a symphony of flavors that sang the praises of the fresh local products so central to the bistro's philosophy. Bistro St. Malo is more than just a meal; it's a culinary journey that pays homage to both French tradition and the vibrant tastes of the Mediterranean. If you find yourself wandering the charming streets of Quebec City, do yourself a favor and make your way to 75 St-Paul Street. You might just discover your new favorite dining spot.

We cannot complain about that. Our server was friendly and very charming. The meal was beautifully paced. The restaurant itself is very noisy. The food itself was disappointing. On the recommendation of our server we started with the carrot doughnut. The doughnut itself was lost under a mountain of ricotta. I would not have known that it was carrot, except that she had told us. We ordered two other starters : I ordered the foie gras pate and my boyfriend ordered the fried oysters. The pate was served on a small layer of sunflower butter, which was unnecessary. The pate itself was surprisingly flavorless. Homemade bread and blueberry jam served alongside was quite good. The fried oysters were completely drowned in buffalo sauce, another green sauce and "blue cheese foam". I would not have even known they were oysters. They were served underneath some cucumbers and peppers and lettuce. For our main course, we shared the blood pudding, which, despite the crazy number of ingredients actually was delicious. It was the best thing we ate. It was served with homemade bacon, a roasted artichoke heart, and some mussels croquettes. Seriously a lot going on. For dessert we ordered the spiced orchard dacquoise. Another complex, and I thought overly complicated dish, that my boyfriend felt worked well. It was presented nicely, and I remembered to get a picture of it. All in all, it seemed like there's just way too much going on in each dish and no particular flavor stands out. Two of the dishes, the fried oysters and the carrot doughnut were just sloppy and smothered. The boudin and the dessert were both beautifully plated, and the flavors worked better as well. The foie gras appetizer was unfortunately bland, and the main ingredient did not shine. Maybe it was an off night? Maybe we didn't order the best things? Evidently, they're doing something right because they've been going for 50 years, but we just didn't see that.

We were underdressed, but the host basically was like "the dress code is only for the waitstaff, you are fine." So the place is definitely welcoming and had a nice vibe. Most of the tables spoke French but there was one other larger group also composed of English speakers. Waitstaff was fully bilingual though the vibe of the place is more Francophone than Quebec tourist. The food is cooked technically very well, though the portions are small, particularly our scallop appetizer which was maybe 2 scallops. The food was very good, but for the price it wasn't amazing, amazing. My wife said her trout for example was a bith mushy. I had the beef and it was very good. I'd happily it that and the scallop dish (maybe I'd order two, lol) again. Cocktails were also very good. Then there was the pre-dinner mackrel rolled in seaweed. Totally fine but an odd choice to give to all the diners. Also, the bread was only so-so (I got a better loaf tonight at Farm Boy) and the pepper butter and fois-gras butter were sort of tasteless. Again this is a solid restaurant and despite being 'fancy' had a very unpretentious vibe about it, which I appreciated. But the price feels a bit high, and the service was quite slow. So for me, it is a 4, but except for a restaurant I ate with friends in Montreal in 2018 (the name of which I am forgetting) and a really excellent spot on Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the it is probably the best restaurant I've eaten at in Quebec.
