Louise's made delightfully detailed and beautifully decorated custom cookies and petit fours for a baby shower I hosted this April. When one orders a cake, one doesn't expect, especially when paying for a custom order, for it to get lost. And, one DEFINITELY, DOES NOT expect to pay for such poor craftsmanship. I, we provided ALL decor visible on this cake sans the "crafted" bottle out of icing they charged me $55 for on a 2-tier 8"/6" top only to be told they couldn't craft it for this 2 tiered cake. So, we scraped last minute the top tier. Does it look as if it couldn't have been on a 2-tier considering the bottle is NOT over 21/2" tall?!?! And, where is the rice krispy?!?! I bit into it to find ICING!!!! (AGAIN - see pictures.) I was told to have the 2 tiered quote for $185 with bottle (sans tax), the bottle wouldn't work. I would have to have some custom bottle cookie on top. God forbid considering what you visually see I ended up receiving. So, to have my custom bottle like pictures I provided, I'd have to have the 8" solo. Okay...fine. Yet, to write my daughter's name on this pathetic icing fondant covered bottle, I was to pay just shy of original quote. And, TO ADD insult to injury, I WAS blamed for such. Like, REALLY?!?! Well, if they'd delivered upon what I had to RE-discuss/address because of their ineptness on innumerable conversations, this may have been fine. But, AGAIN, this IS NOT! So, I scraped the top tier. Question, consumer- do you think an 8" cake, with EXTRA layer, is worth $165 ($180 w/ tip?!?!?!)? How STUPID and regretful I am I tipped, prior to cake receipt. (On a sidebar, the red velvet, our daughter's favorite, was decent. But, not worth the $300 my decorations and this cake cost.) ! "Caveat Emptor!", friends. And, unless you desire hassle upon hassle and to be COMPLETELY stressed out and disappointed beginning 10 days out from whatever reason you're purchasing a custom cake, GO ANYWHERE but here!!! As, fortunately, there are INNUMERABLE bakeries (like White Oaks Cookie Co I found to custom make (18) specialty cookies for our daughters surprise party her friends are putting on for her that are EXCELLENT and 1/2 of the $150 plus tax these bozos we're going to charge me.) My, how I CONTINUE to miss my beloved Dreamcakes! Lesson learned. PRAY I save you from such lesson!!! You've been warned... read more

Update to the update: Iron Bowl game tailgaters loved the cake. Every bit.....gone. So glad it didn't go to waste. I contacted the owner concerning the situation. A honest mixup in cakes. So I'm sure somebody was just as surprised to find they had my yellow cake instead of the chocolate they ordered. All is well, and I will place my Christmas order with Louise's after all. read more

What a great cake place to come across! We have tried other cake places in and around Birmingham and just needed something different. Louise's provided the cake with quick turn around. My wife and I ordered our wedding cake from Louise's many moons ago. As you can imagine, all of the ordering of said cake was made by my wife. But I was able to enjoy the cake itself and my wife seemed pleased with the experience. On our 1 year anniversary, we got a small cake to commemorate the occasion as opposed to doing the whole freezing the cake. Again, she dealt with the ordering, and I enjoyed the cake... which was delicious. But with my twin's 2nd birthday coming up, I was tasked with ordering it this go-round. And even though I haven't had the cake quite yet (coming up on Saturday), the ordering process was seamless and easy. When I called, a friendly girl on the other end was happy to help, talk things through, and make sure I wasn't making any mistakes with the task I was asked to do (even though I probably still did!). I am sure that the cake will be as delicious as I have had from here in the past. If not, I will be sure and update my review. But all experiences with Louise's thus far have been 5 stars all the way! read more

I love that you can just take in your child's birthday invitation and they will create you a beautiful cake. My favorite cake flavors from Louise's are the chocolate and red velvet. My family and I have been coming to Louise's for years for all of our birthday and party cake needs. Unfortunately, this will be our last time using this bakery. i called three days prior to order my cake for a Friday pick up. I went to pick up my husbands 60th birthday cake when they told me they could not find my order. Thankfully, I had a receipt because I prepaid for it after she claimed she didn't have my order. She asked if I could wait for her to come in and fix it. I drive an hour to get these cakes and had my 9 month old grandson in the car and could not wait. i came back Saturday morning to get the cake AFTER I received a phone call stating that I had said July 8 pick up and not July 1st. Keeping in mind my husband's birthday is July 2. Why would I order a cake for a week after his birthday? the cake was supposed to say Happy 60th Birthday and all I got was happy birthday. will not be back. i would recommend savages in Homewood. read more

This place is no longer the traditional Louise's Cakes N Things. I have been ordering all of my Birthday and other Special Occasion Cakes from here for decades. Louise retired and since she left, the cakes are substandard. The cake is dry and the icing is layered so thin - there might as be none on the cake at all. I've given them several 2nd chances but I'm out of them now. My husband ordered me a coconut cake for my Birthday cake and it was terrible. The cake was dense and you could taste an excessive amount of Almond Extract and NO Frosting. It was a big disappointment to all of us, especially since he specified heavy on the icing (which means a normal amount since they don't put any on there to begin with) but yet again - they didn't listen. I'll have to find a new bakery. Louise's used to be a step up from Edgar's - now they're a step way down. How disappointing :-( read more

These cakes and desserts are outstanding! We served a lime tart to 80 guests a year ago for a rehearsal dinner and they were beautiful and absolutely delicious. Lots of comments! This bakery is owned by Emily who invited us to sample 4 different versions and then to make our choice. That was so much fun and we knew exactly what we were getting! This past week we served a three-tier cake of Emily's design to celebrate an accomplishment of our granddaughter. Unbelievable!! The design was clever, funny, elegant and extremely personal. Emily collected lots of info about our granddaughters life and talents and wove them all into the design. We had a big group and everyone loved it. So fun to have such a special focal point! Best of all, the cake and icing are really yummy. We froze several pieces and are taking them out to thaw every few days, prolonging the pleasure! read more
