Tried their all you can eat buffet for the first time. Fish was good. Had a variety of foods. Would've loved more seafood options on the buffet bar though.

The waitress tried and was honest they insisted in charging me full price for an appetizer that was not made right and even the waitress believed something was wrong with it. The manager however refused to take it off and only took off 15%. The waitress was so kind that she tried to make up for it by giving us some desserts. Honestly I was so disappointed. This place use to be good

Food was decent, got the 3 piece chicken dinner, corn and red beans & rice with corn & shrimp soup on the side. I don't eat the skin of chicken much, just a little but I always pull it off, chicken was bland, took a bite of skin and they season the skin not the meat so that was disappointing, soup was pretty good tho. Person who took my order was really sweet and nice as well!

I haven't been to bayou bistro in a solid 10 years, but my boyfriend came visit and kept raving about how good every single item was on the buffet menu. He said he even loved the spaghetti, which we are very particular about! We decided to come try it out this Thursday evening and had Carmen as our server. We were sad to see that no buffet was being served tonight, but we were happy with the menu options. The menus do need a much needed face light! But that's how you know this place is about to be poppping lol I checked in on yelp and received a free desert coupon, yay! I told the server and she said they only had bread pudding, which was fine. I got the chicken Alfredo pasta and boyfriend got the seafood platter. The pasta was good, very very cheesy and runny. The red beans were good & the shrimp and corn soup was great. Boyfriend liked his seafood platter too. I almost forgot, we got cheese sticks as the appetizer and OMG! You have to get them. They were huge & so crunchy and the cheese was stringy and just delicious! We ordered a to go meal for tomorrow's lunch & we put in our free dessert bread pudding order. The bill came out before the dessert and to go food. We noticed we got charged for the bread pudding that was supposed to be free. The server was nice and went took it off. We sat and waited for to go food. Once it came out, we said our good byes, only to get home to see that the free dessert wasn't placed in our to go bag :( We were upset because we had 3 separate conversations with the waitress about the bread pudding; one showing her the coupon, one about it being on the bill, and one when to bring it with our to gos. Overall, the food is good. I really want to check out the buffet, but I gave it a 4 star for the dessert confusion. Maybe next time!

The food is too salty and they use MSG which is not healthy. Cajun food doesn't have to be salty!

The menu likewise is impressive, it's created by serious chefs. It includes everything from a simple burger to some fine steaks. I tend to go for the appetizers and small plates. However, they also have some quality seafood as well as Cajun specialties (including a good gumbo). There are regular specials, and the "Soup of the Moment" is also worth trying. They have particularly good charcuterie boards! The service is also great, the staff are dressed all in black, and there are white tablecloths. It's a near fine dine, but not as stuffy as one might expect. Definitely a place worth trying in Downtown Baton Rouge!

We found Parrain's Seafood while searching for authentic Louisiana food and a good po'boy/seafood…read morespot before making our drive back home to Houston. We were in Baton Rouge helping our grandson move into his dorm as an incoming freshman at LSU, and Parrain's kept coming up in our searches and reviews. We decided to give it a try, and I'm SO glad we did! We visited on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., and when I tell you EVERYBODY and their family was there... I mean everybody! The parking lot was packed. There is plenty of parking, but there were so many people that we still had to hunt for a spot. Thankfully, we found one under a shade tree because it was HOT! When we walked up, we fully expected a long wait. There is plenty of outdoor seating for people waiting, and I also noticed they have both steps and an accessibility ramp leading to the entrance. My daughter and I sat down while my husband stood in line to put our name on the list. About five minutes later, he was waving for us to come inside! Apparently, many of the people waiting were large groups and families coming from church, but since there were only three of us, they were able to seat us almost immediately. HUGE plus! Once inside, it was BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. It took our server a little while to initially get to us, but considering how packed the restaurant was, it really wasn't bad at all. Our waitress was very nice, and I was actually impressed with how quickly our food came out. Now let's talk about the FOOD!! We first ordered the onion rings for an appetizer... super delicious I ordered the fried shrimp platter, and those shrimp were fried to PERFECTION! Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The meal also came with salad, fries, hush puppies, and a side. The hush puppies were SO GOOD! They are shaped almost like little donut holes... crispy on the outside and soft and savory on the inside. Delicious! For my side, I chose the fresh green beans instead of the dirty rice. Unfortunately, those were the one thing I didn't enjoy. They didn't have much flavor to me and seemed a little undercooked. Next time, I'll definitely choose another side. My husband ordered the fried catfish platter with dirty rice, coleslaw, and fries, and he loved everything. I tasted his coleslaw, and OH MY GOODNESS! Get the coleslaw! It was different from any coleslaw I've had before. It has whole peanuts in it, which sounds unusual, but somehow it WORKS! The peanuts add this wonderful crunch and flavor. It was SO good. And the French fries!! I've never seen fries cut this way before. They're almost shaped like little Scoop Fritos, with a crispy outside and soft potato inside. So unique and really good! My daughter ordered the catfish strips and fries from the kids' menu. These weren't processed little nuggets... they were actual pieces of catfish cut into strips, and she really enjoyed them. She also ordered the crab fingers, and those were another 10/10! They were incredibly well-seasoned with a little spice and tons of flavor. I tasted one and wanted MORE! I'm watching my sodium intake, so I behaved myself, but they were absolutely delicious. Overall, Parrain's was a 10/10 for us. The only thing I wouldn't personally order again would be the green beans. Everything else, from the shrimp and catfish to those amazing hush puppies, unique fries, crab fingers, and especially that coleslaw, was DELICIOUS. Yes, it was crowded and lively, but we still received really good service and didn't have to wait nearly as long as we expected. With our grandson now attending LSU, we'll be making plenty of trips back to Baton Rouge, and Parrain's has officially made our list of places we will be visiting again!

The waitress returns with the "new" plate and there is a buzzing sound coming from the plate- a fly which she, my guest and myself all honed in on. I let her make it right and bring another plate for the tacos, as she would bring me new refried beans. The shrimp/crawfish were stale on the tacos... But there was no spinach so they offered to make another one, I appreciated it being I traveled a good distance and had to come back. The only suggestion is easy on the beef as it overpowered the queso which was really thick in consistency and took away from the flavor. This time, I ordered the Birria Tacos. It wasn't terrible in taste, but more like a regular plain brisket taco with Birria consumé. It was served with rice which was a little dry in texture so I didn't eat it. Customer service is always a plus whenever I go, so no complaints there. Friendly atmosphere and has been quiet the last few times.
