Very disappointed in the service AGAIN and we will not be returning. Either the waitress never comes OR we sit for 30-40 mins for food when other tables have ordered, eaten and paid their bill. We went there for breakfast, walked in and said we had nine people. She said she'd be right back and then seated us in a nice area in the back! My wife and I take a few long distance road trips each year, and finding good road food can often be a challenge. When we approached the Cloverdale exit, the blue signs showed us the usual fare; Subway, McDonalds, etc. However, we checked with Yelp and saw that they had this highly rated diner in town. You have to drive all the way through the tiny town, turn right, and find it behind a sizable auto repair shop. You pretty much have to know that it's there. The building is quite nondescript; the outer walls covered in ribbed steel.and sporting signs such as "Politically Incorrect store - Merry Christmas" and "If it offends you, you're welcome to leave." So we entered, sat down, and perused the menu. I was a bit concerned, as three were pictures of the food in the menu, much like a Denny's. I ordered the deluxe club sandwich and my wife ordered the four piece chicken tenders meal. Now, I judge restaurants by their club sandwiches and I have to say, theirs was excellent. My wife ordered the 4-piece chicken tender meal. The chicken was fried and very good, but she could only finish one tender. She ate another later that day, and we both ate the final two pieces after returning to our home in New Mexico (we had a cooler). The service was very friendly and the restaurant was clearly frequented by the locals. This restaurant was a welcome change from standard interstate exit fare. We had reservations which was great to have. It was busy and we had attentive service. The recommendation for a dinner was spot on. We each had something different and all four of us enjoyed the quality and portion received. The sea bass was excellent along with the steamed vegetable medley. Lasagna was good as well as the penne pasta dish. The pizza was amazing and you get to add another ingredients at no extra cost. Highly recommend this establishment. read more

Driving back from Southern Indiana we went to Yelp in search of a place to eat. Yelpers were right about this place! -Service was great. Our serve was friendly, helpful and fast. -She recommended the pork tenderloin platter which came with a big, fluffy roll ad two sides (we chose mashed potatoes and green beans). We could give or take the beans, but the potatoes, pork and roll were delicious. The portions were huge! -We order the fried pickles which came out crispy with just the right amount of breading and salt. And boy was the portion gigantic! -We also ordered a burger and a side of mixed vegetables. Again, I would probably do without the veggies next time, but the burger was juicy, tasty and a mouthful! My husband and I were traveling through the area and found Lou's Diner on Yelp this morning. We fell in love with the little diner, the staff, our server in particular, and the tasty, down to earth food. Hot Rod (Lana), our server, had a wonderful sense of humor and she made us feel right at home as if we were routine locals. Our lively banter made for a happy morning. I ordered 2 eggs over easy, bacon, and toast with apple butter. Cooked just right and served quickly, I especially liked the bacon. My husband preferred a 1/2 order of biscuits and sausage gravy, plus grated hash browns which were fried just right. He is picky about his sausage gravy and this generous serving didn't disappoint. It was flavorful and without the flour aftertaste that most other restaurants serve up. We both asked for coffee. It was hot and smooth. I asked for a to-go cup to sip on while we continued our travel. When we departed Lou's Diner we felt that Hot Rod was our new friend. We will be back! read more

We drive to Lou's from Indy and it's well worth the drive. My personal favorite is the country fried steak and both the beef and pork versions are excellent. The onion rings are delicious made from scratch. Service is friendly and prices are very reasonable. read more

This place is off state rd 243 not far off but if you don't know it's there you will drive right by it. You can't even see it from that road and it's not even a quarter of a mile off that road. There food is great I had the club sandwich and onion rings they were both great. My wife had the Ruben she didn't eat it there but heated it up about six hours later and said it was still great even way better than Arby's Ruben and she loves it . This was the 2nd time we have been there I had the bread tenderloin the first time it was also awesome and I could only eat half and a order of fries which by the way are very good. Driving through the state and was ready for lunch. Did a yelp search and found this diner just off the highway. This must be where the locals eat! The waitress was very nice and knew many customers by name. Food was excellent. My only regret was not having room for dessert! They had a nice selection of pies: chocolate, peanut butter, butterscotch, and fresh strawberry. I also saw some pineapple upside down cake in their cooler. Let me start off this review by saying they make REAL chicken fried steak ! For those southern replants who miss their CFS, Lou's will get you a little taste of Texas! They also have more than generous portions on a lot of other offerings. The fried pork tenderloin was moist and tender and the onion rings were made right there in the restaurant. The iced tea was fresh and tasted fantastic. Overall, so impressed with the food and the value, we ordered dessert. That is something we don't normally do and we're glad we did. The banana creme pie was unquestionably good and the blackberry cobbler ala mode was fresh and made with real filling. They were busy and there is a good reason why. Such a sweet little diner, it was almost like it was out of a movie. A steady flow of regulars came in and out as we sat in a small booth on the side. Our waitress was very friendly and you could tell she really enjoyed conversing with everyone that walked in. I had the beef country fried steak with mashed potatoes, white gravy, and a side of fried mushrooms. My meal came with a fresh baked yeast roll that was gone way too soon. I don't know if we will be back in the area soon, but we would definitely stop here again if we are. read more

The chicken sandwich was HUGE and very delicious. Nice and crispy. My husband ordered the Ruben which was loaded with sauerkraut and yummy sauce. Didn't like this place when it first opened.. decided to give it another chance, and still dislike it. The staff is terrible, and rude. When we arrived, a staff member barked at us from a distance, and pointed where we should seat ourselves. The food was barely warm, with absolutely no flavor. The coleslaw was way too creamy, like a thick yogurt- also, with no flavor. My breaded tenderloin was way too thick, and full of gristle. I have yet to find why people rave about this dump. The walls were filthy, as well as floors. Every ledge was covered in dust, and walls had food flicked on them. Hopefully a health inspector will come, and show them the standards a restaurant should legally have. Also, they were blaring music in kitchen, that was not family friendly. Every single time I have eaten there (4 times at most) my stomach gets so upset. Wishing Cloverdale could get a good place to eat- because Lou's is NOT it. read more

We liked this place! The reviews said the "breaded tenderloin" was good. What kind of tenderloin was breaded you may wonder as I did? I think it was a pork tenderloin maybe? like a chicken fried steak? But pork? on a bun? It was like ridiculous and as big as a dinnerplate. haha! I actually didnt love it - but it was tasty! I think it just needed a sauce or something. I just got it with like mayo lettuce pickle cause I didnt know what it was. Everyone was friendly. I was gonna give 4 stars but now I am thinking about the huge sandwich and laughing and so I have to give it 5 stars plus the onion rings were super really good. On a weird note the bathroom has like no door. You walk around a couple corners so nobody can see - and there are stall doors yes. But if you make a lot of poop noises the people might hear you! :D haha and because of this maybe don't sit on the right as you walk in. I like that dudes beard too in the picture.
