They do not carry basic housewares, which is what I was seeking on my visit to supplement my JI rental house's kitchen, but we took a little time to look around just the same. Store is tidy and arranged nicely. Owner is very friendly and sociable, ready to answer any questions and tell all she knows about the provenance of any piece. Items were eclectic and vintage. I grew up with true 100+yo antiques passed down over generations and was taught a lot about old things. I'm versed in 20thC vintage items from my own curiosity and collections over the years. The merch I saw at Rummage is fun and vintage (mostly 1990s to now on my visit). However, you never know what may end up here as a consignment shop, so it's always evolving. Prices were mostly on par with eBay if you include shipping. If there is a home decor item you need it is worth a look.

I guess I wasn't very clear on what to expect after looking at their website before my visit. I much enjoy the Artists' Guild shop at Goodyear Cottage on Jekyll or Glynn Visual Arts on SSI and I had the impression that this would be Brunswick's version of those handmade art stores, but it wasn't. There was a paint-your-prefab-ceramics class going on in the back studio and people gathered around a table in the cafe making a craft or something. I know these are popular with certain people but Build-a-Bear type ceramics are not for me. The store portion is laid out much like an Anthropologie vibe, made to look like everything is precious and "deep." Merch was more crafty than artsy, like Etsy as a shop, with Etsy prices. All artsy-looking commercially produced goods or handicrafts rather than actual art--I saw no OOAK items in the shop, nothing actually handmade either unless the bead earrings were handmade on a loom but again, identical duplicates of them. It seemed like everything had to be a certain matching aesthetic and be a similar BoHo Brooklyn "Beige Mom" style. Brunswick can be diverse for those who embrace it, so the store name "Makers BWK" is a little misleading in that sense. When I think "Southern" + "art" I go to folk art or Gullah crafts, memory quilts, face jugs, etc. I get it if that's too traditional and established for the under-35s, but Brooklyn BoHo? I guess it's a novelty this far from NYC. Also, as you can see in my pictures, there was no coastal art representation for the Golden Isles. Unlike the Artists' Guild shop at Goodyear Cottage on Jekyll or Glynn Visual Arts on SSI, it just seems like there is no sense of locality infused in any of the products Makers BWK had. They mention goods from Haiti online so I appreciate if those are Fair Trade but there was nothing to explain what was local. The craft market candles? The mass-produced sketchbooks? Jewelry, candles, soap, cards, sketchbooks, random snacks... again, not OOAK original art. It is what it is, and good for those who like it. It's artsy craft market stuff. It's just not for me and was frustrating to waste time to visit when online it seemed depicted as actual art for sale.

They have a wonderful artist that has created many items and the paintings on vintage windows are the most beautiful pieces of art! But my experience was great- we were greeted coming through the door & I was near the register (unknowing) and was asked if I was ready to check out- but I wasn't. The lady told me they were moving a big piece of furniture- just in case I had to wait to check out. No problem, I was just getting started! As I made my way to the back of the store- John got excited- a kitty came out to greet us. She obviously could spot cat lovers! She made sure to meow and demand pets and followed me around which made me absolutely have to buy something. I am a sucker. They carried my favorite soap line- Naked Bee Honey products, but didn't have any bar soap- boo, I tend to buy all in stock when I find it and it's always at small stores! Instead I found a hefty slab of geode crystal with agate- but it wasn't priced. I had a number in my head I would go up to and they sold it to me for less! Yippee~ sold! The three times I've been in recently, the employee at the front cashier has ignored me completely....just kept reading book or looking at phone or chatting with another employee. Today, I asked where I might find towel hooks, and the employee said they didn't have any. I asked, "none?" because I thought that was unusual. She said "none". I looked around the store, saw maybe a half dozen of them, and left.

This is not the kind you find at big box stores; this is solid furniture. (Not cheap.) They delivered promptly. We ordered a rug that took a long time (supply chain - not P+P) but they kept checking on it for us and delivered it the day it came in. Customer service in both locations is terrific! They also have beautiful ceramic plant pots at St Simons.
