We loved our experience with Love & Water! We had planned a Maui baby moon and after doing extensive research on photographers, I decided to go with Love & Water due to their breathtaking portfolio and unique style. We were lucky enough to get a sunset slot on a busy holiday weekend just booking a few days in advance, but would recommend booking a few weeks out if you can. Adam was our photographer and we appreciated his laid back and easygoing nature and his ability to coax out some smiles from our toddler who hates posing for photos. I rented the Kasia Kulenty Selena gown in sand as well as brought my own dress, and was able to easily do an outfit change at the beach. It was nice to have a rental gown for photos in the water since you didn't have to worry about it getting wet / sandy. We opted for the Sand & Seashells package (30 mins for a family of 3 was enough time to get in family pics, pics of my toddler, as well as solo maternity pics) and we also had limited time due to the sun setting. We were thrilled with our preview photo which came the next day, as well as the rest of the gallery which was ready 3 weeks after. Love & Water did an amazing job editing the sand to get the look that we wanted and just let the gorgeous, natural colors of the sunset shine through. We opted to upgrade the entire gallery for $150 additional and will cherish those photos for a lifetime! read more

We booked with Love+Water because we loved the dreamy aesthetic in their photos, and we wanted to capture a similar vibe for our first family photoshoot since becoming a family of three (our son was 13 months old at the time). We did a sunset shoot in December 2021 with Shawn in Wailea. Our son was a bit grumpy and shy throughout the shoot, so we were quite nervous whether we would have any good shots. To our surprise, the gallery Shawn sent back to us was filled with beautifully captured moments. We absolutely love the photos we got in the end! Shawn was also great to work with. Throughout the process, she has been very communicative and accommodating. On the day of our shoot, there was a storm that popped up and there was a chance that we would have to postpone our shoot. Shawn was quick to provide different alternatives but fortunately, the weather cleared up and we were able to shoot that day. Not only was she patient but also, she provided directions on how to pose and we are so grateful to have her guidance. We can't express enough how much we love our photos! We had a trip planned to Maui, and it happened to be perfect timing for prime maternity photos. Since I have a toddler, I needed to find someone who was comfortable working with families, too. I thought I'd just look and see if I could find anything that I might like. As soon as I stumbled upon Love + Water Photography, I knew I had to schedule a session! Shawn and Adam made everything so easy: from planning what to wear, planning where to eat, deciding which package would suit our needs--they had answers for everything. When we arrived for photos, my toddler decided that she hates sand. She was terrified of it. Did it throw Adam off? Absolutely not! We had family photos taken this summer on the big island of Hawaii. Since we didn't get photos on Maui we had an affiliate photographer, Sam, who was amazing. My pictures are okay. I like the ones on their Instagram and website better. It was an expensive shoot - I don't think worth the cost. I wouldn't be a repeat customer. I would have liked to have seen some of the photos in the moment to see how we were looking, if we should change anything (my hair, etc.) They have you fill out this questionnaire beforehand but they don't use it to inform your shoot experience. I was glad to go with a longer duration - 30 minutes would've been too quick. And it increases your chance of liking some of the photos. read more

My family and I were in Maui for a family vacation in August 2021. My husband had a brilliant idea to get family photos taken while we were there, to document our first family vacation since our 2nd child was born. The whole process was really easy and straight forward. I found Love and Water Photography on Yelp and just loved Adam/Shawn's style. So i knew it would perfect. Shawn was super responsive in emails and Adam was great at capturing our family. It is really difficult getting a toddler and a baby to focus but Adam was very go with the flow and just captured us candidly without much posing, which again is so hard to do, with a toddler who is captivated with the ocean and a baby who wound up eating sand (captured). We were quite nervous about the photo shoot, not quite use to public displays of affection. However, Adam quickly eased us into process. By the end of the session, we wish we had another hour! Adam took some incredible and epic images. The tone, composition, and color was captured beautifully. While we were the subjects of the images, Adam really used nature and its texture to elevate the images. The natural, non-composed images turned out to be the best images. All in all, the images were worth every penny. When it came to printing our top five images, it was incredibly difficult! That's how much we loved each shot. I am SO picky when it comes to finding a photographer. When you're spending the time and money to capture memories that will last your lifetime, it should be art (especially if you want to hang it on your walls), at least for me. And I absolutely adored the dreamy look of Love+Water's final pieces. Husband and I went on our belated honeymoon and we never got to do an engagement shoot or a real wedding due to COVID, so I really wanted our honeymoon shoot to be special. I hate to leave negative reviews but I'm compelled to speak my truth about my experience with Love + Water, but specially with Shawn who is behind the scenes and does all the emailing for the business. As a first time mom I wanted to make sure I captured some photos during our baby moon and reached out to Shawn well in advance. Admittedly, I'm a anxious pregnant mom to be so I had plenty of questions and emailed back and forth with Shawn many times before we even landed on Maui. During those emails, I specially asked Shawn to clarify the difference between the packages as they were certainly pricier than what I'd find here on the mainland. My vision was to have photos of my husband and I in the water, similar to the photos she has posted on their website, Instagram, and specially her email signature. I was going to be in Maui and we wanted to fully embrace the experience and get messy in hopes of having photos we can cherish for the rest of our lives. I even sent Shawn inspo photos that I had seen to give her an idea of what we were looking for. Fast forward to shoot day -- Adam is kind and really helped my husband and I get comfortable in front of the camera but did not direct us at all. I had to provide all the suggestions: can we do some walking down the beach this way? Can I do one sitting on the shoreline? What about a silhouette shot? I had even asked to get into the water like my package described but he didn't answer and didn't follow through. Either way, the session times are so short for what you're paying for and if you're shooting at sunset like us, you're rushed to get shots before it gets too dark. Before I knew it, our session was over. It was clear that Shawn (the business half of the two) had clearly not shared with Adam (the photographer) what our package was to entail or any of the inspo shots I had sent Shawn well in advance. We get our gallery quickly which I appreciated but because the contract states THEY pick the photos, I'm stuck with 3 photos I would never choose myself as they are unflattering and on the grass. Why would I travel all the way to Maui for photos on the grass? I can do that here in Los Angeles any day of the week and for free! Shawn also did a half assed job at editing the photos despite the contract stating "profession touch ups". I'm pregnant, my body has changed. I have cellulite. I shouldn't be able to see where you've touched up and where you haven't on the same leg. She claims that she did "additional" editing free of charge once I brought this to her attention. Because I didn't get my water shots, I sent an email asking for a refund of the difference between the packages since the photos in our gallery clearly represented the more basic package (land and seashells) vs. what I paid for (land and water). Shawn ignored me even after multiple emails when I asked her to resolve this professionally without getting my credit card involved. Needless to say, once my credit card reached out to her she miraculously remembered that she had an email saved in her drafts responding to me. She gave some bullshit excuse about the water conditions that day. The water was fine and I have photos (ones that Adam took!) to prove it. Ultimately, my credit card was able to refund me and since then, Shawn has blocked me on Instagram (lol) and deleted my gallery. Im surprised at how immature she has acted as a result. Shawn, had you just refunded me the difference between the packages, you could have saved yourself the headache. You're a grown women, blocking me on Instagram doesn't hurt me but this review will hurt your business. I implore you to actually respond to your customers next time and try to resolve the issue like a professional and not a child. read more

I did an EXTENSIVE research before I chose Love+water as our photographer for our #travelgram #gramworthy travel photoshoot. lol During the shoot, my husband and I had so much fun. We got to run barefoot, jump into the water, lift each other in the water, pose like a PRO and laugh a ton! It was definitely an experience and we loved every bit of it. I liked how we were guided, but still able to pose freely. I felt like we were there to just hang out on the beach (except Adam probably was working hard trying to capture those moments! lol) That's how natural and smooth the shoot went! Honestly, I don't think our photoshoot day was the best for sunset photos because the sunset wasn't as vivid as we hoped but we stillll love our photos! Mind you, I was never a fan of beach photography, but I'm hooked because of them! My husband and I were headed to Maui for a family vacation and decided we had to book Shawn and Adam for an anniversary photoshoot. They are incredibly professional and their brochure and pricing guide they send upon initial email correspondence is BEAUTIFUL and so well done. I know that's a weird thing to point out, but presentation is everything and should be noted. The entire transaction was seamless. :) Shawn confirmed our shoot and location the day before, and we met them down in Kihei. They are so fun, easygoing and great to talk to! They also had some awesome recommendations for dining and shopping. My husband and I probably wanted to spend more time talking to them than anything else. As far as the photoshoot went -- it was a breeze, they helped us with posing, walking, acting natural. And we received a sneak peek THAT NIGHT and the images sooner than quoted. We LOVE how they turned out and they're up all around our house. Honestly, I loved our wedding photos, but had I met Shawn and Adam earlier, I would've absolutely hired them in a heartbeat. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- you will regret not choosing these two! They're the best! Lastly, I find it very disheartening that the negative reviewer gave them one star. We've used Love and Water twice for family photos- once on Maui with Adam in 2019, then again recently in 2021 on the Big Island. This photography business is nothing short of incredible. We've taken a LOT of family photos (more than my husband would like), with a number of different photographers and L+W is far and away the BEST! Not only do they take beautiful photos that are expertly edited, but their communication and organization is unmatched. (This can be hard to find in the photography industry). I was a bit nervous for this year's pictures, as they were shot by a partner photographer (not Adam since we were on the Big Island), but I was once again incredibly impressed with the finished product. We had 14 people (including babies, toddlers, children and a grumpy grandpa) and you would never know it based on the beautiful, natural pictures. The only downside is you'll want to frame them all! I was about to show a friend our photo on their Instagram page and found they removed it. I did not understand the concept of putting ones photo, tagging them and removing them anyways. I have been pondering for a few months if I should post this review or not... I am currently going through the photos for holiday cards and seeing the photos again just make me mad! Their communication from start to the end was great! Let's start with their price. We had a family of 4 photo session end of July, it was $950 for an hour. I would say the price is ok, not cheap. However for the quality of photo we received, it was definitely not worth it. To be fair, they did refund $230 to us because they agreed that it was poor. I asked for 50% back because I thought it was really really bad. I wanted to mentioned that my father was a photographer and my husband is also very into photography. And we take professional family photography every year so we are not amateur. This is the first time in our last 11 years with professional photography that turns out this bad. Adam and Shawn have amazing artistic photos on their website (that was the only reason we picked them) however we really didn't get any because the one (and only one) picture of the family photo that was decent was "pixelated", not clean and we couldn't blow it up. They said " oh I am sorry, we focused o the sunset instead of your face", really? Adam was our photographer that day, and I have to say the style his posts us was very 80s like, very uncomfortable, stiff post and not fun. We feel like we were in a studio but it should be fun and relaxed at the beach, which we were at. To add to that, most photographer that posts you, they would know that an arm is out of place or your position need to re do somehow to make the picture look right, he didn't do that, and some of the family photos looks awkward. Considering with the digital camera he could see it right there! Not like the old days you have to wait for the films to develop. The only ask we had was a sunset picture with our body in shadows. During the session I reminded Adam and he said "I already got it!" Well, we didn't get it!! Again, you have the digital camera to see right in it, if you have it or not? Based on their amazing photos on their website, we didn't feel like we had to tell him what to do and how to do it? But we were wrong. We didn't exactly have the best weather day, it was cloudy. Adam assured us that it will be fine. Well, our conclusion is that without the beautiful background sunset, they are unable to produce decent photos for us. It was really a shame since this was a one time shot during our visit to Maui. Maybe Adam had an off day, or maybe couples are their thing and family sessions are not. read more

I can't remember exactly where I found Love and Water, but it was either through wedding websites, or it could have been Instagram. I just remember searching aimlessly through photographers that lived in Hawaii because I wanted to take engagement photos during our Maui vacation trip we planned this past week (June 2017). I finally found their website, instagram and facebook and fell in love with their photography and their style. It's super unique and I love their attention to detail in their photographs, as well as the wide shot photographs they take. The pastel colors they use in their photos and they way they shoot in the water is what makes them unique compared to a majority of photographers. I am a super picky person when choosing a photographer as well and love unique photos, angles, shallow depth of field, etc. I don't really like the photographers that do the same photographs, poses, and no uniqueness or special styling to their photos, and I usually have a hard time finding a photographer that has those same qualities I am looking for in photographs so when I found Love & Water I was ecstatic especially because they're located on Maui. I eventually booked them in March/April of this year and we had the pleasure of shooting with Adam the day of our engagement photos. He made us feel at ease, even though I was feeling a little awkward and uncomfortable with all the PDA, but it was a fun day overall. We photographed in different areas on the beach Adam and Shawn suggested to meet them, to make the most of our shoot (some people I guess only want beach photos, but we were up for the walk and I did want a variety of photos). We got super lucky with the sunset (with clouds) and the weather that day, and we went in the ocean for the last part of the photoshoot and the preview image they sent over the next day was AMAZING! We've received so many compliments on just the 1 preview photo so far, and can't wait to see the rest of the photos. If you're ever in Maui, or on the other islands of Hawaii I would highly suggest booking Love and Water for your shoot. I think this might be a traditional thing for me because I love their photography so much, maybe next time we'll book an underwater session since this time was just a Sunset Land and Sea session. read more

I was searching for the right photographer to take some family photos since it was a big year for us (my husband's 50th birthday and our 10 year wedding anniversary) and found Love and Water through an internet search. I immediately loved the way they photographed, I especially loved the colors in their sunrise and sunset photos. When the day came for the photo session Adam was our photographer. He was patient with our 3.5 yr old son and even with my "tangled necklace" incident...which by the way took almost half of my session to untangle but he just did photos of my son and husband and threw me in once in a while until I was victorious with the necklace. The photos came out beautifully and we are completely happy with both our experience as well as the quality of the photos. I would recommend them and use them again in a heartbeat! read more

I`m a photographer myself and pictures I`ve taken are all over my house. But seeing these guys work...makes me want to do a WALLPAPER of their art. My fiance and I had our engagement photos taken by Love & Water. Adam took the photos, but we emailed with Shawn a number of times as well. They were both a dream to work with! First of all, I had to change the date of the photos several weeks after I had scheduled due to an unexpected conflict. They were totally understanding and willing to push the date back a few weeks. On the day of, we ended up in the wrong place. Adam came and found us and we followed him to the spot. I was pretty stressed out by that point, but he instantly made us comfortable. I didn't think I'd have fun taking the photos, just that we'd get them over with and then have some beautiful photos, but we had a blast taking them! I learned of Love + Water through a friend who travels to Hawaii every year. First off let me tell you that they are very professional and communicating with them via email was so easy. I received all the information I would want to know and more about our session. They were very quick to respond to all inquiries and sent me step to step info prior to our session. My photo gallery is amazing, I love our pictures. Adam did an awesome job at capturing our toddler who didn't want to cooperate, I was amazed to see him smiling in almost all of our pictures. Seriously Adam and Shawn are simply amazing! We planned our elopement from Texas and Shawn was so much help from the start. Then they were in contact with us leading up, which definitely took off some stress. Then when we got to Maui and the day of the wedding we were all set to meet and there was a FIRE! (No really, a fire on Maui that caused insane traffic.) Adam was there with our officiant, and seriously you would have thought we had a hired private event planners. They teamed up to immediately help resolve the problem, we decided since we already had a land and sea session booked to move it to the next morning. Again Adam and Shawn were rock stars and made it nothing less than perfect! Mind you they were all this relaxed just 6 short days after having their first baby, I can not say enough good things. Our family of 5 just had our session yesterday evening with Adam. Incredible experience! My youngest daughter, Alex, is 3 and has special needs so it's rare to get her to stay calm with anyone she doesn't know. She was instantly curious about him and we were able to get some photos with her before she dove into the ocean and rolled in the sand, dragging her older sister with her. We appreciated his patience with Alex. I am not used to taking photos without feeling awkward so it was fun to be silly with my husband and Adam made great suggestions on positioning the entire time. Our January Maui wedding was small and intimate...so we wanted to put together a very personalized event with our close family in a paradise setting of our new home. Shawn and Adam created magic....As we promised eternal love, laughed, cried, danced, and sang with our kids, (and hugged strangers passing by on the beach), they captured the heart and joy of our family and the love we share. I can't even use common words like "they are great wedding photographers," as that doesn't describe the magnitude of beauty that is portrayed in our pictures. The quality of the shots is so good, they were even featured on Huffington Post in a Top 10 segment! It was so fun to see us hugging it out in a globally shared feature article due to a photo taken by Love and Water. In addition, they know Maui so well as it relates to timing and location, weather and lighting. We planned the time of our ceremony with so many factors in mind that they preplanned. So all we did was show up and they knew where to have us stand, when to walk in the shadow of the mirrored sand, how to move into the light of sunset, etc. We are an older couple who wanted simplicity yet high quality, and we received the best care and final product that we have ever seen. The photos were digitally delivered to us so quickly, and soon after the package that arrived in the mail was gorgeous! A gift box of prints with our entire session on a memory stick drive which was the cork of a small bottle.....that message in a bottle was precious to us and remains a heartfelt gift for us to share with all our visitors when they enter our home. read more
