WARNING: Dangerous Negligence and Falsified Records If you value your life, stay away from Lovelace Westside Hospital. They have a three-star rating for a reason--there is absolutely zero administrative oversight, and they treat human lives like a game. I walked into this facility with a direct referral while in a severe, life-threatening Addisonian crisis. Instead of receiving basic emergency care, I was completely ignored and left in a crisis state for nearly seven days. Because of their blatant refusal to provide a simple, standard dose of Prednisone, I endured days of severe, traumatic seizures and am still covered in physical bruises weeks later. To cover up this catastrophic failure, my patient portal was intentionally locked so a physician could enter completely fabricated records for an exam that never even took place. They will literally lock you out of your own medical history to hide their tracks. When I finally escaped this place and went to Presbyterian Hospital, the staff there had me stabilized with the proper medication within 20 minutes. Presbyterian saved my life; Lovelace Westside almost ended it. I am filing formal complaints with United Healthcare and national accreditation boards. Do not trust this hospital with your health or the lives of your loved ones. They are negligent, dishonest, and completely unsafe. read more

Been here with my father 3 days-first day/night we had the best nurse and tech. Day 3 I've been here since 10 am and only met the Tech Elizabeth when I called the alert and waited 7min. She was not able to help with the issue. A nurse showed up about 45min later to fix the IV drip. Later I noticed her on her personal phone numerous times. Personal phones are notoriously filthy. After multiple days in the emergency room at Lovelace in the Westside I have been released with no answers. I have continued numbness on my entire left side of my body that has crossed my midline to my right chest, throat, and face. I am weak and sore. I was provided no water or food for the entire time I was there (3 days). My throat tightens when swallowing and it is clear there is a struggle in swallowing. Never once was this checked. It was clearly not a stroke either, but almost all the tested for. Definitely would NOT recommended their Emergency Room if you need anything. read more

The best I have found in Albuquerque. When we moved here we were referred to OPTUM by our TPA Northwest admin. They are awful. Luckily found a great primary with Lovelace Las Estancia and have had tests and procedures here. Staff volunteers and clinicians are great. We were in the waiting room for over two hours and never got past the triage room. I went in for a growth on my wrist and they didn't even scan it, just touched it and referred me to a surgeon. They spent no more than 7 minutes actually seeing and speaking with me. They charge you as soon as you see the triage nurse, so you can't even leave after waiting multiple hours without being charged for them doing literally nothing. My bill was increased by $40 AFTER I left the ER despite not actually even being in a hospital room at any point or receiving any tests or treatment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked the lady at the registration desk how long the wait was going to be and if I could just cancel, and she told me I'd still be charged.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Less than 5 minutes later, they called me back into the triage room to just get my paperwork and get me out of the ER without ever seeing me. When I did finally get released, they discharged me with another patient's paperwork. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The security officer called me to apologize and get me to sign a form saying I didn't share the information.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So I have to take time out of my day because they messed up big. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY I don't know if that's the CDC's fault but if you ask me it way oversteps their authority and kinda steps on my rights to be with my loved one especially at their time of need. The lines are spaced out the door but there are no lines. No visitors allowed Kinda reminds me of a church I went to once that didn't want to allow these disreputable types in. I cannot stress this enough, if you are in pain, they don't care at all about finding the cause of it. All they care about is treating the pain and sending you on your way. The care team is entirely insensitive to you and your pain, they just want to get you out of there as fast as possible. Even with an empty emergency room, they wouldn't allow anyone in, someone not in pain, someone with a clear mind, to properly advocate for her. My girlfriend went to the emergency room the other day with extreme shoulder pain. The copay is a few hundred dollars to go to the emergency room and she would normally never go because of that, but she bit the bullet and went, hoping to have some kind of imaging exam, to find the root cause. They did nothing. They diagnosed the problem as a muscle spasm gave her an injection and sent her on her way. No crap it's a spasm! But why did it spasm? Was there a cervical spine problem that caused it? Who knows??? The didn't perform an x-ray, CT, MRI......nothing. The nurses there are insensitive. With all the pain my girl was in, they never offered any assistance in sitting up, getting off the table, nothing. She's struggling to move and they just stood by. Go to another emergency room. Go to another hospital. See other doctors and other nurses. It seems like this hospital's administration fosters an environment of non-caring, poor patient treatment, and expedited "fast food" patient care. read more

I was appauled by how badly I was streated there by the nursing and "tech" staff. The docs were good and the physical therapists were excellent, but the nursing and tech staff were HORRIBLE!!!! I am going file a complaint to the hospital about how the unit I was in was run. Based on how long it took to get help EACH AND EVERY TIME I needed it, they are SEVERELY understaffed. The nurses and techs ranged from friendly-but usually pretty stupid, to even-more-stupid-and-cruel. One tech, in particular, did a lot to set back my status with her very stupid and CRUEL demands while I was in EXTREME pain. She forced me to move in ways that elevated my pain level way up off the charts, despite the my screaming in pain and pleading with her to stop. She did this so as to change my sheets. I think they could have waited under the circumstances or if she cared/had any brains, she could have found a different way to do them or sought help. On the second to last day my daughter decided while playing chase, she would fall and dislocate two fingers. I called her pediatrician and they told me to take her to urgent care. I call and schedule an appointment for 5:00pm at urgent care and when we show up, they tell me I need to take her to the emergency room. By now, her fingers have been dislocated for 2 hours and I'm about to lose my mind having to go to the emergency room. Preparing myself for a long night. We check in and within 5 minutes are taken back to triage. The nurse takes her vitals and the CNP, Laura Pagan assesses her immediately. Within 30 minutes we have X-rays and an official diagnosis of two broken fingers. The nurse Nancy is absolutely amazing, Laura couldn't have been nicer or more efficient, X-ray technicians were so kind and gentle, even the front office staff were friendly and inviting. Two hours after we arrived, we walk out the door with X-rays in hand, a referral to an orthopedic specialist and a splint after her fingers were popped back into place. I follow up with Ortho two days later and they redo the X-rays. Orthopedic specialist says she's impressed with how well the ER reset her fingers. That most patients come in with them still dislocated/broken. (You can't be serious right???) From the front desk to the nurse, CNP, and even the billing department when they came to collect my copay. I could not have been happier with the experience. Hopefully I won't have to return anytime soon..... but they're my first choice any day of the week! read more

Took my daughter to the emergency room with a temperature and stomach pain and throat hurting at 10:45 this morning. We sat in the waiting room for three and half hours. I told staff twice that she was getting hotter and starting to tremble. They just looked at me and said well your just gonna have to wait. Other people were coming in and being called back right away. The tragedy nurse finally came out and said he could try and get her some tylenol to help the fever. And that they would get us back as soon as they could. This three hours into sitting in the waiting room. I'm frustrated and my 8 year daughter is miserable and crying. They get us called back and we spent three more hours back there. Needless to say we spent nearly seven hours there. I'm not a happy mom. read more

I will start by saying that the staff at the ER of this location are super nice, the place is clean and the nurses and doctors listen and are very attentive. I felt I should write about this to help the staff with future visits of Gillian-Barré Syndrome patients. We visited the ER on the west side three times in less than a week with my husband who is a healthy person, out of the blue, with sustained pain and not being able to walk well, to not being able to walk at all and being in extreme pain. The ER staff kept on looking at muscle, brain, heart issues, all tests came back normal so no stroke, heart failure or anything of that nature, they kept on telling us it could be a virus passing through the body and to just let it ride its course so they sent us home. By the third time we ended up going there the same week, (with only 7 hours of sleep in 5 days) I had to wheel my husband into the place and I could not believe they let us go but kept on believing it was just a virus and that all was going to be ok soon. I wheeled him back out with nurses assistance and we went back home. Things got a worse and we were about to have a fourth visit to the same ER and someone recommended for us to go to a different ER so we did (Sandoval County UNM on the west side as well). They were able to look at the numerous tests that Lovelace ER had taken in our previous visits that week and they were able to rule out things and coming to the conclusion that this was a neurological problem my husband had, they transferred him to the Neurological Floor at Lovelace Hospital downtown where he was diagnosed and treated for 5 days for with Gillian-Barré Syndrome which is a neurological problem that we never heard about before, but we feel they were spot on with treatment and followup therapy for my husband to relearn walking and recover mobility with him staying in physical therapy hospital for two weeks. Both the Hospital and Rehabilitation at Lovelace hospital staff were outstanding with their work with him and super nice too! He is now almost fully recovered (It has been three months since this started). It can take up to two years for some people to feel better, I guess he is one of those miracle cases but for sure the medical staff and therapists had a lot to do with his recovery as well. If I could have the ER at Lovelace west side (or any ER as a matter of fact) read this review, I recommend that their medical staff is trained and informed about Gillian-Barré Syndrome, it would really save people a lot of trouble by them being able to recognize the condition so patients can get proper treatment faster. read more

Their website said 20 minute wait. I drove there (8 minutes) and was taken right in. Everyone was wonderful. Despite an almost full house they ran the appropriate tests fast. The doctors are completely dismissive and lazy. If you go into the emergency room having serious symptoms and need a test run, they likely won't feel like it and will refer you out to somewhere with a 7 month waiting list instead. If you need an emergency room, you're much better off going to Presbyterian or taking your chances with a long wait at UNM. read more

Ladies'restroom was clean and smelled nice. The wait was short and nurses were nice. 2 HUGE problems. First was one bathroom to be shared by all the other sick people there. Gross and a great way to spread germs. Second and more importantly the billing!! It's no surprise ER visits are a rip off and a huge reason the healthcare in America needs a major change. However, the bill I received was extra expensive. Made a settlement which did help to reduce the bill (this is after insurance paid btw) and I thought I was good to go...BUT a few days later another bill arrived. The doctor bill. Apparently they don't make things easy by giving one bill, they like to outsource so just when you think you you've paid the bill, been told your account is good, surprise now you have to pay the doctor. The is the main source of my annoyance. The doctor charged my insurance just under $1000! The doctor who spent less than 1 minute in my room. I will generously give him an extra 2 minutes he spent looking at my lab results and opening the door and telling me my results. So 3 minutes he spent in total with me and he gets paid $1000!!! If this isn't an example of how medical "people" are ripping off insurance companies and patients I don't know what is. Oh and the doctor's name is CHRISTIAN MANNSFELD. You will know him as the doctor who spends the shortest amount of time humanly possible with a patient (also the nurses agree and said so). read more

Literally 5 min wait for the ER on a Tuesday night. Cassandra was my nurse in the ER and she was amazing. The doctor, I don't even know his name was super ass rude and didn't take the time to talk to me about my pre existing conditions. Sent to the second floor for more time to get tests done, I had wonderful staff that were not disturbing my sleep every two minutes like in the md dc va area. I am satisfied, and Dr. Frank was so knowledgeable and helpful. He understood my issues and helped with the whole picture including altitude sickness. The only reason I take away 1 star is the doctor in the ER, an entitled white male doctor who didn't want to take me seriously. read more

Staff were very kind. I came in with a fever that I couldn't get under control. Found out I was dehydrated. They got my vitals, an iv started with labs, so fast. After leaving I felt so much better. My 87-year-old mother received suburb care at this hospital when she had a stroke in 2019. Everyone did very well- everyone I encountered. I'm especially grateful to the nursing staff, nursing manager, the doctors, every CNA, the medical testing specialists, the gift shop people, security, every level of the cleaning team, billing and the cafeteria staff. Comfort food done right. As an adult family caregiver of a parent with dementia, I felt relieved to know and see that how well she was cared for at Lovelace. Her doctors explained things to me so well. This is a loving place- a caring, very professional hospital. And I really appreciated the experience of being there daily to visit my mom while she recovered. Most importantly, my mom recovered & returned home healthy. Very Family Friendly. She's still alive, as of the Fall of 2020, and is watching Netflix with her doggie in her lap; here at home. read more

Went with my daughter because her 16 month old was quite sick. He had been diagnosed with ear infections and Type A flu the day before at an Urgent Care center. He couldn't keep the antibiotic down so they sent them to the Lovelace ER. Lovelace got us in quickly. The staff was great with a special shout out to Nurse Nancy who was not only amazing with our sick little one but was also very good at calming his very anxious mommy. We received exceptional care from an exceptional staff and would highly recommend this ER. read more

This is the second review I have written about Lovelace Westside Hospital. I am a registered nurse with 45 years experience in a variety of hospital settings all over the country. I had a left hip replacement on 9/9/21 and a right hip replacement on 1/9/22. In both cases, I was discharged the same day and my recovery has gone amazingly well. I am now essentially pain free after many years of continuous pain. My care at Lovelace was exceptional from Holly and Norma in preop screening to Christine, Ashley, June, and Lisa who prepared me for surgery (preop, day of surgery) and cared for me in the OR and PACU. Once again, the staff at the front entrance who collected specimens before surgery, greeters who insure escort to appropriate location, Jamie in admitting, and Elizabeth in the laboratory were professional and kind. Just as with the first surgery, I cannot think of a single complaint that I can make regarding my experience. If I could give a higher rating of stars, I would. Once again, I will definitely tell friends and family to feel comfortable putting their care in the hands of the staff at Lovelace Westside. read more

Went to the ER twice in a thirteen hour period of time because the doctor I saw first did not treat me for the true emergency recently-extracted tooth, surgery site infection, vomiting and dry heaving I came in for. instead, he billed for "nausea" which is, of course, not an emergency. I am never paying that bill. This ER is always empty, and they do triage you quickly and get you into a gown quickly, but the quality of care you get is the worst. The doctors do not treat your symptoms, spend 30 seconds with you, then discharge you when you are still too sick to walk, but bill the insurance more than $1200.00 for services not rendered. read more

I am totally discusted and appauld that there is a different dr on duty each day with different diagnosis each day!! My dad is 85 yrs old and lives alone. He can only partially see in one eye. Has beginning stages of dementia, blood clot, liver is failed, has no strength to even get off the coach to walk around, to go to the bathroom. First dr said he was declining and it was too dangerous for him to live alone, and he would be placing him in a nursing home. My brother and I were supposed to have a meeting with this dr at 11. He never showed, and a different dr was on duty. Apparently he didnt follow up with the last dr. Hd says if he wants to go home to die, we can't stop him. If he had someone with him, this would be great! Not possible when he lives alone and needs 24 hr care, there is noone that can take care if him. This is putting him in a very dangerous, unsafe situation. He could fall and be alone for days. Fall and bleed to death from blood thinners.Why would you let a patient, diagnosed with dementia, kidney failure and blood clots, go home to an apartment alone?? He can not even get up off the coach, to go to the bathroom and is crapping all over his apartment. He will have hospice visits a couple days a week, until he passes. The nurses are always great and helpful, but these drs. are cruel and uncaring. read more

I came in for severe coughing and wheezing, when I went back to triage they told me I needed a pregnancy test for a chest x- ray, so they take me back for the x-ray, then go back to room, nurse said we need a pregnancy test. I have already the x-ray, wouldn't that be moot now!!!! I have a scary looking spot on my lung, they said check up with your primary when you get home (don't even live in this state) then prescribed Allegra which I told him I already tried, that did not work!!!! Then wouldn't give me cough syrup which I know worked in the past, wants to give me some pill, I've never heard of, so I asked to speak to the Doctor, he finally came in, changed the prescription to a cough medicine that is not been in circulation for 5 years. Ran all over town from one pharmacy to another, the doctor did not put it on a hard prescription order, which he should have known. Had to go back to the hospital and basically get loud with the doctor. Finally got the hard copy, had to go back to the pharmacy. From end of the town to the other. I went to the Lovelace ER and was highly disappointed. Triage was not being implemented properly at this facility. Rather than using a ranking process to prioritize patients based on severity of illness or injury, with the intent of treating the sickest first, they used a first come first serve system. There were patients with a sore throat and indigestion that went before me and I was bleeding and needed stitches. If you are really injured I would suggest going to a different ER. On that note the quality of care was sufficient once administered. read more
