Hospital or an ER is not a place you go happily and willingly, but this facility has consistently made difficult situations more bearable. I have had multiple visits here, including ER trips, general appointments, and overnight stays for myself and family members, so this is based on more than just one visit. Everyone I have met and interacted with has been very friendly, caring, and helpful, with the exception of maybe one nurse over all those visits. From check-in to discharge, the staff have done their best to explain what is going on and make sure we are as comfortable as possible. Overall, they have turned the inherently unpleasant experience of going to the hospital into something as pleasant as it can possibly be. I have struggled navigating in the building, but this probably is a me problem. They do have big parking lots and garages, but it is pretty hard to find a parking spot. read more

My brother had to come to this hospital and have a craniotomy procedure. It was done be Dr. Santos. He did a great job. The only thing was I was not called by him as requested. We recently traveled to New Mexico and had to take my family member to ER. She had a very very rare disease that majority of Dr's and hospital staff have never heard of. So rare that there is no medical code for it. I have to say we were very taken back by the drug addiction problem over there. However, it's now understandable why the precautions and skepticism is existent. Dr. Guerrero is absolutley excellent! He took the extra time to professionally and compassionately tend to my friend. Even taking time to reach out to her Dr. Here in compassionately for a better understanding of the treatment of this rare disease. I don't write reviews, but after what happened Thursday night at Presbyterian Downtown (shortly after 8pm), people need to be aware. I was at the hospital with my brother, who passed away the next morning at 11:20am. He had been taken off life support, and I was there to spend his final hours with him. I left briefly to get food and returned with snacks. While being verified for entry, a security guard immediately escalated the situation by getting into my personal space. After I was cleared and began walking away, that same guard followed me, grabbed me, and questioned whether I was a threat. My hands were full, I was not aggressive, and I had already been verified. Despite this, multiple security guards surrounded me, harassed me, and forcibly escorted me out, repeatedly telling me that no one is allowed to stay overnight--period--even if what I was saying was true. Let that sink in: I was being told I would not be allowed to see my dying brother because of "policy." It was only because of the incredible nurses on the 4th floor--who took the time to come down and personally verify me--that I was allowed back in. Without them, I would have missed the last night with my brother before he passed. Even after being cleared, one security officer put his hands on me multiple times in an aggressive and completely unnecessary manner. This was not de-escalation--this was provocation. I was not a threat. I was a family member trying to be with my brother during his final hours. The behavior of the night security staff was unprofessional, aggressive, and completely out of line--especially given the circumstances. In contrast, the nursing staff showed compassion, professionalism, and humanity when it mattered most. If you have to visit this hospital, be extremely cautious dealing with their night security. Their actions nearly prevented me from being there when it mattered most. I will be filing a formal complaint and expect accountability read more

Late last night, I learned what a Morgan Lense eye wash is. I had accidentally gotten alkaline solution -- for water -- in my eye so went to the ER at Downtown Presbyterian. The Morgan Lens looks like a miniature translucent beer bong, but for your eye, and the funnel/tube orientation is flipped since the funnel is directly on your eye. I've only seen people do the beer challenge, mostly in movies and during college. Never tried it myself. It doesn't look fun. I was at the ER just about five hours. That seems like an average amount of time to spend there, though I have spent longer during the handful of times I've had to go to the ER for myself. Everyone was really nice and knowledgeable and in good spirits. Characteristics you would hope the medical staff attending you would have. I want to give a shout out to Dr. Nedda Kurimi, and nurses Greg and Andi who took care of me. Thanks, you guys! You made the ER experience better. read more

My 93 year old Korean War veteran Dad was recently admitted to this hospital where he spent 30 hours for evaluation of a possible stroke. His whole stay was a nightmare! They treated him with such disrespect. They refused to give him his regular meds, wouldn't let him get up to go to the bathroom, gave him no nourishment even after all the tests were completed and kept him tied down to prevent him from moving anything but his legs when all he wanted to do was get up to go to the bathroom. In addition, they were inept at starting an IV. He was so agitated and upset. We checked him out against medical advice and we are glad we did or we feel he would have died there. It took him days afterwards to calm down. I don't recommend this hospital and will never set foot in it again. read more

This hospital is wildly understaffed and most of the staff that is here does not give care to the level needed for someone in a severe condition. You have to either call nurses to remind them to do scheduled turns for patients who cannot move or simply do it yourself. Medicine is pushed past its due time (not talking pain pills, things like insulin), and my husband's insulin needle was left in his bed next to him, with the injection not given. I had to take the syringe to the nurse station, and let them know it was just lying there. He also got a nasty bed sore from not being turned. There were a few nurses that did a fantastic job, but most were completely absent or didn't care a single bit. I'd rather bleed out slowly on Central than ever be admitted to this hospital. read more

Presbyterian ER was a total loony bin on the Saturday night that we had to take my family member in. It looked like there was urine and other bodily fluids on the floor in the waiting area (in several locations) and there were people trying to do drugs (complete with aluminum foil and lighter) there as well, right next to us and also in bathroom. There also appeared to be several people with severe mental illness who were in need of assistance, but in my opinion were too dangerous to leave with the general public in the waiting area. I don't know what type of care was given to my family member given that I was not allowed to go back. I'm assuming they were limiting the number of people in the ER Bays given that the ER and all hospital beds were completely full of people with respiratory illness. Unfortunately there were no hospital beds available due to high respiratory illness so my family member was not able to leave the ER, and had to stay there the entire weekend. Immunizations anyone? I have to say that I don't scare easily but I was quite terrified waiting in the ER waiting area by myself. In fact, I told my other family member that I would not be waiting in that area anymore because it was too dangerous. Given that the hospital staff were completely fed up with everyone and everything, I was also not sure that anyone would help me should I be attacked, which seemed like a distinct possibility. I was also asked for money by a "patient" who was not thrilled when I declined. I understand the staff are not there to protect the patients and their families but the security that was at the front door just kept waving people in and not even making many of them, including me, go through the metal detector. How do you know if people are armed with weapons if you don't make them go through the metal detector? All-in-all, I was shocked at how disgusting and downright scary the waiting room at the Presbyterian Downtown ER was. I remember many years ago that Presbyterian had the best hospital in town, especially their emergency room. It's not their fault that there are so many folks who are struggling but at least have security actually screen people for weapons before unleashing them on the waiting room patients/visitors. And why is security not throwing people out who are using drugs in the waiting room or bathrooms? I truly hope that we will not have to go back to Presbyterian Downtown ER. If it looks like I'm going to have to wait in the waiting area again I will simply opt to go sit in my car, even if it's dark and cold. I'm sure the medical team is competent and caring. My family member indicated that they felt taken care of. Administration acted disgusted with pretty much every person checking in but it's because they are dealing with a lot given the types of patients that are filling the ERs at this point. If you need to go to Pres Downtown ER , be very aware of your surroundings and try to keep yourself safe the best you can. You can be certain nobody else is going to do it for you. read more

How long should I wait? Facility: Presbyterian urology Location: 201 Cedar SE, Albuq. NM Technologist: ??? I met with a provider outside of Presbyterian on 6/26/2025 due to an injury. They said that they were going to make a "stat" referral to Presbyterian urology. I asked what stat meant. They said it was an urgent request due to the injury. The next day I received a message from the first provider that the referral had gone through and to expect a call from urology. It has been 12 days and I have not gotten a call from the urology department. I guess Presbyterian does not understand what the term stat means. Or perhaps doing business with their paying customers has gone out of style. This is frustrating, reprehensible, unprofessional, unethical and bad business for them. I guess I will do what I have done for so long and simply take care of myself and whatever sickness or injury I may have. Thank God for the internet. read more

I had a terrible experience at Presbyterian Hospital that left lasting physical and emotional damage. After arriving in excruciating pain, I waited over 7 hours in the ER, during which time I passed out twice. I witnessed one patient suffer cardiac arrest and another die, just feet from me while waiting countless hours for critical care. New Mexico ranks 49th out of 50 in healthcare in US, and Presbyterian is the state's largest hospital. I was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix which Presbyterian removed, but the IV drugs they used caused permanent hearing loss: 70% in my right ear and 20% in my left after only 3 days. Despite repeatedly informing the hospital, they dismissed my concerns. An ENT later confirmed that this hearing loss is common with patients she sees after Presbyterian hospital stays. When I confronted the hospital with my records, they sent a hostile response and later removed all references to my hearing loss from my medical files. I recorded the entire hospital stay on my cell phone including every conversation I had with Presbyterian every day about my hearing loss. Before I was discharged, I was wrongly told I likely had bladder cancer, causing months of anxiety while I waited to get another opinion. In violation of HIPAA, Presbyterian shared my private information with many oncology centers who called me daily while I waited to see a different MD, stoking my anxiety about cancer. I later had surgery to remove debris Presbyterian left inside me. A specialist outside Presbyterian confirmed the tumor had almost no chance of being cancer, which a biopsy later proved. I've passed this to my lawyer for further action, and to the Joint Commission on Hospitals and all relevant medical licensing authorities to investigate, because the beautiful people of NM deserve so much better. read more

I went in today because of a terrible kidney stone that completely tore up my kidney and urinary tract. It wasn't considered an emergency so I wasn't rushed with sirens or anything which sucked, had to wait in the lobby too while screaming in pain but it can't be helped. Besides that, the nurses and doctors that helped me out were absolutely amazing, they gave me everything I needed, needles handled very carefully, ct scanning people were super nice as well. Through that absolutely nightmare they were always there to give me the comfort I needed. After making the mistake of visiting UNM Hospital last year when I needed to I grew tired of the strenuous long wait times that continued to grow and grow each visit. I understand the hospital is very busy but my last visit was just way too long. I remember going into the ER for an infection and spending the entire night there because they took forever. I think I was there close to 11 hrs! Since then I have been avoiding going to that hospital at all costs because ain't nobody got time for that! This time around I figured I'd give Pres a chance. After checking my insurance I confirmed they covered them so I popped in. Let me tell you the experience was much more pleasant. These guys are so much more on top of it. I couldn't believe how much shorter the wait time was compared to UNM Hospital. These guys got me taken care of so much quicker. Of course there was still a wait but compared to that other hospital this place was a breeze. The staff were very helpful, friendly, and understanding to the care I needed. I was late for an appointment at Pres downtown. I am wearing a medical boot to heal an ankle fracture so I went to the Valet Parking area. I could not have gotten better care and service if I'd driven up in a Rolls Royce. The young men helped me out of my car, got my walker out of the trunk, set it up, opened the hospital doors for me, asked if I needed anything else and wished me a nice day. UNABLE TO OBTAIN SCRIPT FOR SIMPLE BUT MUCH NEEDED MOBILITY EQUIPMENT IN A TIMELY MANNER There is no mechanism to relay urgent needs for medical equipment to prescribing Dr. so that it can be covered by insurance and picked up from a supplier. The need was for a simple and common item - a rollator walker costing about $250ish - this item is needed for my parent to safely get around home, to the bathroom, to appointments. Try getting to a bathroom with out the right equipment and you can imagine how frustrating and upsetting that could be for a person in their mid 80's. So even though we messaged (multiple times), called multiple times, explained how important that item is for SAFETY and ability to perform routine and NECESSARY bodily functions we have STILL not received the needed Dr.'s recommendation for the rollator so that it could be covered by insurance. The insurance companies should be held accountable for understaffing, but also the staff that a simple but IMPORTANT quality of life matter was not handled in a timely manner. I hate when I call Presbyterian customer service and I ask for a new ID card and they said oh it's been submitted and it'll be to you in 10 days and it never shows up and then to find out when you called them back that they never actually submitted it!! When you lie to someone and tell them that oh yeah I totally submitted it and you'll get your new ID card in 7-10 business days and it never shows up that's absolutely not OK. I had a great experience delivering my baby at this location. All the RN(Tanya and Zach at the delivery floor, Angela and Isabel at postpartum floor) I encountered here were attentive and helpful. I just spent 12 hours at the hospital, 10 of it was sitting in the waiting room for vacant rooms. That was the only negative experience I had here. This ER is BUSY, so expect to wait, but also expect really kind staff who will provide you with blankets while you wait and water if you need it. I know they were busy, I know they were stressed, and yet every time I spoke to someone they treated me with kindness and undivided attention. It truly shocked me, and honestly restored some of my faith in humanity. I noticed some reviews on here are complaints about being kicked out. After being there for 12 hours, I did witness people removed from the premises, but it was genuinely only the people causing problems or putting the staff in unsafe situations. The security here was incredible and I felt so safe. They were on top of anyone in the restrooms too long (using drugs), and checked people's bags at the door for weapons or alcohol etc. They were also super friendly, unless you were doing something wrong. Healthcare doesn't get any worse than Pres. Stupid, uneducated, uninterested personnel. From the people who answer the phone at Customer Care to the nurses who could not care less to the Idoctors who are very overworked and very tired. I paid for my own A1C at a private lab. My A1C came back 10.5. I have to have a PCP because I need a referral, from a PCP, to see an Endocrinologist. I've been on the phone forever. A total of 5 hours over two days. The first phone rep who answered my call couldn't even pronounce "Endocrinologist" -- she probably didn't even know what one is. I AM SO DONE WITH PRES. Unfortunately, I have six more months before I can switch my insurance to BCBSNM and go to UNM. UNM isn't great either but it's better than Pres. smh Sure hope Pres doesn't let me die between now and the end of the year. And since I worked there -- on a Med/Surg ward, I know first-hand what Pres can do to a patient. smh read more

I'm chronically ill so I'm a hospital frequent flyer. I've had various insurance so I guess you could say I've had the opportunity to sample the area hospitals as well. My father also use to run hospitals around the country before he started his second career in philanthropy so I'm very familiar with the inner workings of hospitals. I have over 8 specialists in the Presbyterian hospital network. Overall, I'm impressed. They are all competent as well as compassionate. I'm in the hospital enough with visits and treatments so they do what they can with video visits and communication through the online My Chart to take care of what I need without making me come in for extra appointments. The ER at downtown is one of the busiest ER's in town but they do a good job. They know my chart so when they see me come in with a seizure, they usually get me right back due to my fragile health. No hospital is perfect. It is a careful balance of patient care and staying open. But overall I'm very happy with my care at Pres. read more

On January 14 I had a cardio cauterization for the insertion of stents performed by Dr. Federici and his staff in the cardio department. Entering and exiting the department was totally satisfying performed by a professional staff. From patient registration to after procedure care I was treated by a very professional staff. Dr Federici was very attentive and professional providing my wife and I total review of my condition and after procedure success His staff nurse Randi was a caring and very oriented professional to all details. My wife and I are very satisfied with the interaction with the hospital staff. Your staff should be commended for their professionalism and caring during these demanding times.
