First time here, skiied two days and had a great time! For Coloradoans this year yielded poor snowfall but for us being used to skiing the Northeast, conditions were great! We definitely aren't used to big open bowls and had a hard time figuring out where 'trails' were so the upper part of the mountain was a struggle. The lodge was nothing special for the most part except that they have a microwave which is awesome. read more

The Loveland basin is a great area for beginners to start at the bunny hill and make their way to green runs while the Valley offers intermediate and expert blue, black and double blacks runs. Came here Feb 21st after it FINALLY snowed a reputable amount - love this resort! First year we've skied here - got the Monarch pass and have 3 days at Loveland through it. I love how much closer it is to home, and none of the lift lines were crazy long. It still feels like a very local mountain - the ski school seems great and there's even child care for 1+ year olds. Love how close parking is to the lifts if you get there early enough. Great mountain, and great terrain since a lot of it is above tree line. LOVED exploring Lift 8, so much powder!! read more

Loveland represents one of the few resorts left in CO which captures the ruggedness and charm of our earlier ski areas. It does not cater to the 80% of skiers evidenced by the lack of cappuccino machines, but does have some killer terrain. The Valley area is great for little ones or beginners and allows them to progress from their magic carpet to a full size chair lift accessing steeper terrain. The cafeteria serves simple but good food at reasonable prices and I recommend not packing a lunch and sunbathing out on one of their outside decks with lunch and a beer. The value proposition for a lift ticket and location where you don't have to go thru the tunnel are hard to beat. Later in the season when the ridge is open, you can crush powder in one of the many bowls or hike to the peak for some of the best views and turns around. read more

Loveland is a great time! I love being able to still support an independent, locally owned and operated mountain! The main mountain has plenty of fun mid level to expert terrain (blues and black diamonds). I've had some of my best days snowboarding with friends all over the resort. The far side has so many fun black diamond runs! Prices are very reasonable. I recommend buying their 4 pack. It's a great way to get your ski and snowboard fix affordably. The staff is super nice and will help point you towards the best side of the mountain during tougher conditions, but if you're going during mid season it's almost guaranteed great conditions. Yay skin time! Went here for a weekend trip. Booked classes and got David and Jason as instructor. Prices are reasonable and early classes didn't have bad of a line or wait time. After a few lessons group was split in 2. I stayed with David. He was beyond patient and great at helping me feel at ease and safe. Took time to explain and show us proper way to pizza, slow down, turns and more. Definitely recommend this place and instructor. Place was kept clean and organized. read more

Great location for beginners ! I took a class here and it was truly so helpful. I tried skiing once the year before but without lessons, but I underestimated how difficult it could be so I'm glad that I took a lesson. This ski area is about an hour from Denver which is very convenient. The prices for the beginners area is also very reasonable, just $50 for the lift ticket. I took a lesson, which include beginner lift pass, rentals, as well as the lesson. It is reasonably priced compared to some of other ski areas near Denver. Also there is free parking right next to the slopes! So you don't need to take a shuttle. Would recommend to get there early. I've heard that if parking runs out, you pretty much aren't able to ski since there isn't any buses to this location (just to and back between the beginner and regular side). Unfortunately, snow wasn't too good in Colorado so many of the trails were closed in the main area, but it was fine on the beginner slopes. I went around new years holidays and it wasn't too crowded (it was apparently crowded the day before though). During the ski lesson, you are split into 2 groups in the afternoon, depending on how you progress during the morning session. read more

The slopes are approachable, and the overall vibe makes learning feel comfortable rather than intimidating. The customer service was some of the friendliest I've experienced anywhere in hospitality. Staff members were patient, welcoming, and genuinely helpful throughout the process. If you're renting equipment on a busy weekend, get there early. We arrived ahead of the rush with no lines and it still took about 30-40 minutes to get registered, fitted for skis, boots, and helmets, and assigned to instructors. Others in our group showed up about 50 minutes later and waited nearly twice as long. A little planning goes a long way here. read more

We have always loved skiing at Loveland. This year we decided to rent our skis from Loveland's ski rental place. We had the most rude person at the front of the shop. Everyone else was so friendly except this girl. Multiple times she made rude comments or wouldn't pay attention to us. She had long brown curly hair and glasses on. We couldn't believe how she was treating us. She made the snarkiest comments and wasn't friendly whatsoever. Thank goodness the rest of the staff wasn't like this. Besides her, everyone was so nice and we got our skis with ease. Overall, I completely recommend skiing at Loveland, we always have a blast, but be warned about this particular female. read more

I moved to the Front Range from Telluride. Tree riding uber alles for me. Loveland has more wind than trees, so I have found other reasons to enjoy this family-owned, genuine, and chill spot. My son wanted to learn skiing this winter. Loveland offers the best deal in the biz: 3 lessons, including free rentals, and a season pass for the price of maybe two lessons at the corporate resorts. He had three instructors, each of whom were friendly and competent. Win win win. Recently, we went up to the Luv and found that Billy Nershi of String Cheese Incident was playing an impromptu show on the patio. He played less than 10' from our table and was chatting up people before the show. This is the kind of intimate, genuine experience and vibe that you find at family-owned spots. Priceless. Also good: Free parking Easy drive, even from East Denver--no tunnel Nice terrain above treeline, including snowcat assistance up the ridge Relaxed vibe, friendly locals, and helpful staff. Nothing is overpriced, especially the food and drinks. Solid breakfast burrito and pancakes Less good: Windy days are common and can lead to lifts being shut down. Beer options are weak. I skip it. The long talked about family ski trip finally happened last December. The in laws were visiting from Florida and we decided to ski two days at Loveland. Skiing during arguably the most popular week of the year (Christmas break) means long lines, lots of traffic, an abundance of chaos, etc. Growing up in Florida for the first 28 years of my life, skiing is a foreign language to me. The thought of being strapped to six foot poles still doesn't compute with my brain. From a beginner perspective, I don't know if I can add much insight into the slopes. I can talk all day about hiking a mountain, but skiing a mountain is still outside my comfort zone. We took a lesson that sort of/kind of helped. The instructor was engaging, but I think there was room for improvement to help us with the fundamentals before throwing us up on the lift. I hear the chatter of which resorts are top of the line in Colorado. Loveland probably doesn't come close to the top in a general consensus, but you can't argue with its proximity to Denver and being a stone's throw off of I-70. Would I go back during this time of year again? Probably not. But I would definitely return to Loveland to improve my skills and soak in the views! read more

If you want to get hit, come to Loveland I was skiing at Loveland Valley during a private lesson to work on new techniques. I am not a beginner, and I've always been a very cautious skier - maintaining control, checking uphill, and making sure I can turn safely. Despite this, I was hit from behind by a snowboarder who admitted he was going too fast and couldn't stop. He crashed directly into me and flipped me over. One of my skis flew at least 15 feet away. My instructor was really upset and had to educate the snowboarder about basic safety and control. When ski patrol arrived, their response was disappointing. The patroller was extremely casual with the snowboarder and said that "this happens all the time" and that as long as no serious medical attention was needed, it was "fine." What's alarming is that ski patrol isn't just casually stationed around the area - I saw multiple patrol members actively carrying stretchers for rescues throughout the Valley. There were far more rescue situations than I've ever seen at other ski resorts, which strongly suggests this is not an isolated issue. This attitude toward safety explains why there are so many reckless skiers and snowboarders in the Valley. To me, this reflects poor safety enforcement and mismanagement, especially for an area that is supposed to be a learning environment. To make matters worse, two other skiers clipped my skis the same day. Thankfully, those incidents didn't cause me to lose control, but they easily could have. Loveland Valley is marketed as a beginner-friendly area, yet basic skier responsibility is not being enforced. Without accountability, incidents like this will continue. read more

1. Great beginner area 2. One of the closest ski areas to Denver and you don't have to go through the pass. So if conditions get bad you're not stuck on the other side of the tunnel. 3. The parking if you get there early enough is one of the closest ones to the lift area so it's way easier with kids than some of the other places like Keystone. 4. The price point, especially when skiing with kids is great value. Children 5 and under are free and they allow parents to walk up the mountain when you're teaching them. I tried skiing for the first time and had a great experience at Loveland Ski Area! I rented gear and started with a lesson. We came a few days after Christmas, and the staff kept saying how crowded it was. Yes, it was crowded, but I imagine it was nowhere near as crowded as the bigger resorts in Vail and Breckenridge. The drive to Loveland was about an hour from our home in Westminster. If you are a first timer, I highly recommend starting with a ski or snowboard lesson. My instructor was very thorough and helped me build confidence as a first timer. He showed us the basics - starting with how to appropriately wear ski boots and attach your boots to the skis. He showed us how to move comfortably, turn, and stop. I had a few great runs on the bunny slopes with instruction and I'm definitely inspired to come back and take another lesson. There is a restaurant inside and a full bar. The restaurant had a long line and was pretty crowded. I'd recommend packing a lunch to save money and time. We brought bahn mi sandwiches which was perfect! They were ample restrooms throughout the resort. Good signage made it easy to find our way around the resort while walking like a newborn deer in ski boots. Resort staff was great about redirecting and helping folks who were newbies. All in all a great experience, and I will definitely come back. After my lesson, I am hooked! read more

We like Loveland ski area because it is so convenient for us to get there to squeeze in quick day of skiing. They offer a variety of terrains for all skill levels. One thing I appreciate is that they have green runs that are not just limited to the roads going up the mountain (ie like Steamboat). Some greens are wide open- love it. I myself stick to green and blue slopes which are plentiful. Loveland does offer lessons in their adjoining area called Loveland Valley. Valley has bunny hills and then a couple blues and greens that require a ski lift. I don't really have any idea how long those runs are. Shuttle bus run btwn the valley and basin. Also available are snowcat drop offs and freestyle terrain runs in the basin. No overnight facilities here so it isn't a resort although they do have restaurants and bars. Getting yearly 4 pack of lift tickets makes this an easy and economical option for skiing. read more

As a new skier, Loveland has been exactly what I need! I got the three lesson pack as it makes the season pass super affordable and in my opinion, the lessons are totally worth it. The drive from Denver isn't terrible if you leave early enough as it's only an hour without traffic. The only downside of Loveland is the Valley is filled with many brand new skiers and kids so you have to monitor the runs and watch out for people a lot. The Basin is significantly better with many more runs and slightly more experienced skiers over there. read more

Loveland is right outside of Colorado and pretty simple to get to. It seemed like one of the smaller resorts in the area but to me that was the good part. Afforadable prices, a very helpful and friendly staff, and it wasn't too crowded. The rental staff was great, the shop had 30% off going on which I took advantage of, and there was a pretty cool bar. The food was more than your basic fried food and their were even veggie burgers available! The lifts weren't crowded at all and the snow was great. There were a few runs that weren't groomed but for the most part everything was great. I would have loved a bit more signage being new to the mountain. Rentals had to be returned by 4:15pm which was the only bummer. It seemed like that day was just getting started. They also block off a side of the mountain as the day goes on. Next time I would defenitly get there earlier knowing this. Overall a great experience that I would do again! read more

This was my first time snowboarding and it was a blast! Started off a bit rough at first with struggling to not fall on the rainbow carpet, but we prevailed! Loveland has a great variety of slopes for beginners and more advanced riders. I paid $50 for my day pass and spent a good 4 hours here and thought it was worth it! Personally, I rented my gear outside of Loveland, but I do know that the goggles were $12 rentals. I spent my whole time on the bunny slopes as a struggling first-timer, but don't underestimate how tiring snowboarding can be! I grabbed lunch at the cafeteria and no lie it was pretty good. I had the chicken tenders and fries and honestly probably some of the best fries I've had in a while! I also got a white chocolate macadamia cookie, that was good, but I probably could've done without. There was a good variety of food to pick from, even vegan chili! Inside there was changing rooms, lockers, restrooms, a bar, etc. I was pretty impressed! I wouldn't hesitate to come back to Loveland! read more

3.5.21 COVID Update: It's been almost a year since we last were boarding mask free. Lots has changed, but amidst it all, Loveland has pivoted well. We've been boarding a few times in the last several months. Skiing and snowboarding are basically already socially distant sports when you're on the mountain. And when you're not, they do a good job at reminding folks to wear their masks, maintain distance and generally be safe. Pro tip though: regardless of the time of week (week day versus weekend), get here early. Lines get long fast and despite being amidst nature in a gorgeous location, it's always better to be on the mountain versus in a line. read more

LOVE Loveland - I'm a beginner and newish to CO so wasn't sure how it would go. I stayed on their Valley part and absolutely loved it! I appreciate that this skii area isn't part of Epic pass so it's less crowded than those mountains. Very beginner friendly and only $50 for a day pass (lower cost for beginners)! Never have I seen a price like that. They offer rentals from equipment to clothes. Officially have been here three weekends in a row and definitely will be coming back! The staff has always been super friendly during my visits. The only con to me is that it's off the I-70 which I know in CO is inevitable if you're going to a skii resort to avoid. Highly recommend! I love snowboarding. There just had to get that off my chest. Once you actually get to Loveland to go skiing, you'll have passed a few of the most infamous ski resorts on earth but don't worry, just because those resorts are more expensive doesn't mean they're better. Loveland almost as good at a fraction of the price and a fraction of the crowds. My favorite spot at the resort is off the right side of Lift 9. There is a huge bowl that is ungroomed with zero trees. The rim is a slight incline that you can traverse with medium effort. A 5 ft drop in followed by deep powder. (Heaven on earth!) Loveland has it all, except for a terrain park, they do have one but it is mediocre at best from my memory. They got amazing ungroomed runs, tree runs, giant cliff drops, slopey blues. I booked a private ski lesson which was going really well until the instructor had to cut the lesson short due to being sick. The ski school arranged a new instructor who didn't listen to anything I said or asked to do, turning a fun and productive lesson into me falling down and learning nothing. David Oliver, with the ski school, took weeks to get back to me and won't even offer a refund. It's been frustrating to say the least. read more

I paid $179.00 for my senior season pass for the 2024-2025 season and they will only sell this year's senior pass @ $199.00. False written advertising does not make for good customer service. As a former volunteer national ski patroller for Loveland, I attest that it is the best "under the radar" place to ski. Hardcore tele, alpine skiers, riders will find the challenge of the ridge, trees, steeps. The learning beginner will enjoy classes at the valley. Loveland in a nutshell: "Windy and cold" Also, "so many kids!" Apparently Loveland is a local's ski area, being about an hour away from Denver. The slopes are powdery, it's cheaper than most and it's usually not too crowded (almost no wait for lifts). It was snowing the day we were snowboarding; it wasn't freezing but having something to cover my face with was nice. I thought the facility was making snow but it was just a little blizzard blowing across once in a while. Apparently the snowing on the black slopes was so severe my boyfriend couldn't see the board on his feet. So, the bunny hill! The chair lift was easy to get off - I got off in a straight line and automatically stopped when I gently bumped into the snowbank. There's not much to play with: on the green left is a gentle slope to practice your less skilled side, on the green right is a slightly steeper slope with trees in the middle to practice going a bit faster. Regardless the distance from the top to the bottom of the lift is maybe a quarter to half a mile. Bunny hill (Chair 7) Military discount available Parking is plenty, but big cars might find it challenging. 4 stars for the proximity to the city, the reasonably pricing, the two "terrain"bunny hills. It's my boyfriend's favorite mountain as a Colorado native and I'm sure it has more to offer. read more

Great for Beginners! Loveland has a lot of charm and a lot of people love Loveland and Abasin b/c there's less crowds and easy parking. Loveland is small, like Abasin, and has old chairs that are super slow. It's family owned which is nice. It's not as big or flashy as the other resorts. The runs are short too. I wasn't really having any fun there. The wind at the top was blowing strong. The snow was wind blown, making it hard to ski. Tips - 1) Check your directions -- if you use a GPS, their PO Box is in Georgetown, CO - and that is 3 exits (12 miles) from where the ski area is. 2) For first timers plan to arrive 1 hr (minimum) before the lesson. 3) If you don't want burgers or dogs, pack a lunch. 4) Plan to dress warm (if you bring your ski clothes, the only place to change is the bathroom). 5) Lockers are $7/day (well worth it). 6) Bring water and aspirin-dehydration and falling during the lessons takes a toll (especially on parents). 6) Real winter socks, gloves and a face shield/wrap will keep you comfortable The cons - 1) Food is limited 2) Seating at lunch is crowded (especially if you're not used to all the winter gear). 3) Mountain driving is treacherous - plan extra time for icy/snowy conditions (check the weather report). 4) Oh yeah - it's cold. The pros - 1) All the staff was patient, polite and courteous. 2) The equipment was safe, fit and did the job. 3) The lessons were better than anything else you can find for the price - Cody focused on safety, went at a good pace, and gave some good pointers (great job Cody). 4) Location was an easy drive and is within easy reach of other resorts. 5) The price can't be beat - $105 for rentals, lift and over 5 hrs of lesson. 6) It wasn't overcrowded - either because it is early in the season, or because they don't have all the amenities of a resort. Whatever the reason, we came to learn to snowboard - not sip nonfat mochas. The lifts were in good running order, the hill was well maintained and we didn't have to wait in the lift line more than 10 minutes. read more

I don't know much about ski resorts as this is the first one I've been to, but we had a great time at Loveland. We went to Loveland as people I work with indicated this is the easiest to get to from Denver. I called to make a reservation for a group ski lesson the day prior. There was a bit of confusion on where to go to check in as there are a few parking lots. My advice is turn left once you exit the highway. Lessons and rental gear are in the parking lot in "the valley". The lesson was $149 per person. The check in process was easy and we had our equipment in 15 minutes. The lessons were great. Our instructor was David and he was incredibly patient. We were in the never skied group and we started just getting comfortable on skis and moved onto a little hill, then a bit bigger and then a hill that involved getting on the ski lift. The ski lift was the scariest part for me! We purchased lunch in the canteen area. It was extremely crowded and took a long time to get pretty average food. If you can, just bring your own lunch. There are limited lockers near the rental area. Just as an FYI on a Saturday morning it took us 3 hours to get there from Denver. If you have a lesson, make sure to leave early. read more

I would say the ski resort was very very nice. Especially for a first time skier. My brother and I and his friend came out here together for a Saturday. I was a very much first time, skier, and let me just tell you please know your limits when you first time go skiing or snowboarding. Do not go up the mountains. Do not unless you know for sure you can handle it. I had to take my walk of shame down the mountain. I should've stayed on the kid hills. But even with all that I still had a lot of fun I may have fell a lot of times more than probably the average person but for a newbie it was fun. They do also offer skiing and snowboarding lessons if you are unsure about going up and doing it and PS the food is really good too but just be aware it can be expensive. And lastly, they do also have all of the gear if you need it or you can pre-rent it at like Scheels or another location if you would like. read more

Took a beginner snowboarding lesson yesterday, and it was amazing! I have never skied or snowboarded before, so I was pretty nervous to get out there. However, our instructor Bernard was fantastic. He did a great job breaking down each progression and making sure we felt comfortable. He was encouraging and fun. He explained this really well, and he was just awesome to hang out with. The whole class had a great time together, and it definitely made me want to get out there again and keep learning snowboarding! In addition to the class, everyone I encountered at the facility was so friendly and helpful. The area was not very crowded at all, and the all the instructors seemed really knowledgeable.
