This place was AMAZING on Sunday (3/14) during an epic snowstorm in the Denver area. Almost everything about Loveland checked the boxes: quick and easy buying process, inexpensive lift tickets, no lift lines, great skiiers and boarders on the mountain (helmets, not getting in each other's way, etc...). The hot food was not great at lunch, but the sandwiches were decent and a nice alternative to the typical burgers and chili that are offered at every other ski resort. The other "con" here was that the mountain might be a little dull on a regular day, not in epic conditions. There's a decent amount of catwalk and slowdown at the end of the bowls, for what is a generally popular snowboarding mountain. Pic of epic powder attached! read more

If you are just looking for a simple ski day without the accommodations & amenities of an actual ski resort, then Loveland is for you. For around $100 or so for a lift ticket, it is for sure one of the cheapest lift tickets I have seen in Colorado. Great conditions and runs especially on a powder day! Will be back! read more

After driving past Loveland Ski Area for literally years during my mountain adventures, I finally stopped and hit the slopes yesterday! Let me tell you - I am DEF a fan! LOVE that it's less than an hour from Denver! ++ Less time in traffic - need I say more? LOVE that it was so empty on a Monday! ++ There were seriously NO LIFT LINES! How amazing! LOVE that the mountain is divided based on skill! ++ The western portion is for the intermediate to advanced skier/boarder and the eastern portion is def geared towards the beginner to intermediate skiier/boarder. LOVE that the staff is friendly AF! ++ From the agent at the ticket window to the lift operators; everyone was beyond nice. Safe to say that while Loveland Ski Area is quite a bit smaller than the other ski resorts in the area - it def packs a punch! I know I will be back with my fellow snow-bunny friends! read more

I love, love, love Loveland! While visiting the mile high city for a work trip, I decided to extend my stay for a few days which meant adding in a ski trip into that short time would be a tall order. Turns out, Timmy was upto it so we decided to spend our Friday on the slopes. With neither of us having been on a mountain in over 15 years, we were situationally unprepared. We decided we'd save time and money by renting skis and boards locally and taking them with us. By the time we got there and realized how cold it was, we realized we also needed to rent bibs jackets, gloves, and goggles. By the time we did all that, it didn't save us any dough, (as there was a combo deal) but if we didn't go to the rental place in Denver, we would have never found out about Loveland. The guys at the shop told us that based on our not having skied in forever and what we were looking to get out the day, Loveland would be the perfect fit. They were so right! It was early season so they were operating at 60% which was all we needed. It was big enough and there were enough open trails for us to get comfortable again plus challenge ourselves just enough. Lift lines were non-existent. The lodges at the base and the peak were great with absolutely stunning views from the top chalet. Parking was easy. The rental process was simple and gave us great gear. Plus the staff were all amazing. I honestly can't say enough good things about how choosing Loveland for our short adventure made the experience one of my favorite days of 2019. It's a local favorite and being that it's not a huge resort, it was the top choice for a quick in and out day trip from Denver. Only an hour drive too! Stop at Red Rocks Park on the way home for some beautiful views too! read more

This ski in - ski out mountain is a great option for Denverites to play hooky from work and still be home for dinner as it is only 53 miles away. The passes are reasonably priced and the parking is free. There are essentially two ski areas: the beginners mountain and the advanced mountain. The beginner mountain has a small base area with shorter lifts to some green and nice blue runs. A lot a ski school groups operate off of this base and it would be best for beginner skiers. The main base starting with Chet's Dream has a cafe (with grilled options, pizza, coffee, etc), restrooms and lockers, and some small shops. There isn't much to the base. There is ample free parking which is incredible for a ski place. With over 1,800 skiable acres, there is something for everyone. At the top of Chet's Dream you will find your blues. While there are several other blue runs as you move across the mountain, it mostly becomes black and double black runs, so if you like easy groomers, stay along Chet's Dream or Lift 2. Lift 9 will take you to the highest skiable elevation at 12,700. Lift 4 will get you access to the snow cat (on days it runs) where you can literally ski off of the Continental Divide aka "The Ridge". I also enjoyed skiing over Eisenhower/Johnson tunnels with great views of Loveland Pass. There isn't much in the way of food on the mountain (Ginny's Cabin only has a vending machine) so you may want to bring a snack or return to the base for lunch. The Ptarmigan Roost Cafe also has a grill with light snacks and refreshments- this will give you the best view of the mountain while you refuel. As you are skiing above the tree line, the runs sort of blend together. I did find it hard to plan my route more than "I'll ski in that general direction" which can sometimes put you in some rocky and very steep terrain if you're not careful. While the skiing on powder days is both technical and fun, I would at least have an idea of what lift you're skiing to next so you can follow the lift down. I'm looking forward to many more ski days here! read more

My first time visiting Loveland. We had to pick up ski passes that we purchased online. Easy process and I appreciate that the ski pass people were really friendly. My only suggestion would have been giving some information about pass benefits. The terrain off lift 2'was wide open and easy to navigate. Like most ski resorts, traffic at bottom of lift is busy. I do feel that the lines to get into the lift were kinda slow but once we got on all was well. Had lunch at the downstairs bar area. A huge chilli cheese dog and margarita for $12.50. A lot of beginners so be careful. A few of the Team Members could use some customer service training. Not very polite. Simply one of the best setups for beginners I've ever seen anywhere. Dropped off my first-time-skier brothers-in-law on one side, and then had a great time on the challenging runs on the other, before returning to spend the afternoon with them practicing their green runs. I had my first private snowboarding lesson with Bryan back in Jan. Prior to that, I have been dragged by my siblings to hit the slopes with them. I dreaded those sessions since they aren't exactly the best teachers to learn from. Anyways, I highly recommend taking a private lesson at Loveland! Bryan's lesson made it so much easier to understand how to move on the board and I was surprised at how fast I was able to pick it up. By the end of the class, I was able to get down the slope without falling down. Thanks to this class, I feel a lot more confident with snowboarding. As for the resort itself, I love that there is plenty of fluffy snow. Falling doesn't hurt as much as other ski resorts I've visited back home. While this is not as beautiful and doesn't offer the many amenities of Colorado most popular skiing resort and not as many tourist. It is a great place to practice and spend time with friends at a affordable price but without sacrificing quality , their customer service is excellent, they have a good cafeteria, and powdery snow! What's not to love ? ... I think it's pretty great if you just simply want to go skiing or snowboarding. If you want to go shopping and be super fancy, this is definitely not the place. What a great time! We came to CO from Arizona to hit up Copper Mountain for skiing. We get three days of skiing at Copper on our reciprocal pass from Arizona Snowbowl. On the days we didn't ski Copper, we hit up other reciprocal resorts like Loveland. I've driven by a number of times headed through the Eisenhower tunnel, but never did I imagine we'd stop here. It's definitely a young, locals mountain and pretty affordable, with lift tickets for kids around $35 and adults $80-ish, I think. There's plenty for our kids to do-- both are solid green skiers and one can handle blues. They have one faster lift at the very base (Chet's), and the others that lead to the green stuff are pretty slow and don't have any foot rests (which I'm totally spoiled to admit, that matters!). A few don't have safety bars, which totally made my 5yo a little scared. If I'm being honest, me too! The skiing was legit and I loved all the trees you could ski through when up pretty high. There was something I read about being able to get a free snow cat tour, but that's something we'll look into another visit. The lodge is pretty spacious and the food options seemed pretty solid for a small ski area. The parking lot looked like it might get pretty packed, but we showed up mid-day and snagged a close one. I love how you can park pretty close to the snow. We'd definitely be back, especially for free like it was the other day. read more

Loveland, I love you. Thank you for saving my early season ski vacation! Let me explain... For the first time in our family's experience, our schools here in Austin, TX decided to give us the whole week of Thanksgiving 2016 as a Fall Break. Since it had been almost 2 years since our last ski trip, we knew right away that we'd want to take advantage of this time off to get back on the snow, but we had to find a place that would be open in time AND provide the green slopes that we perpetual beginners could handle. We rented a place at Copper Mountain (scheduled to open on November 11th) and started counting the days until our trip... Fast forward a couple months and it turns out that Copper needs to delay their opening date due to unseasonably warm temperatures and not enough snowfall. We might have been okay, except by the time we arrived on November 21st, they still only had enough snow to open one lift on the center blue section of their mountain. The "No Beginner Terrain Open" signs everywhere should have scared us off, but we were determined to hit the slopes no matter what. We'd had 2 days of lessons at Snobahn in Denver to re-activate our dormant ski skills and we were ready, or so we thought. Let's just say that it's a wonder that no bones were broken getting the adults down the icy mountainside from Rhapsody to Main Vein to the bottom, and the kid, well, he bailed out after the first hill of Rhapsody and got a ride from ski patrol down to the locker room. That evening, I was frantically looking for anything within driving distance of Copper that had any open green slopes, and there like a beacon in the night was Loveland. The drive over the next morning from Copper was easy, just 22 miles. Parking was a breeze (and free!), lift tickets were cheap, and we were on the slopes within minutes after our arrival. Lifts 2 and 1 were open and we spent the day skiing down Cat Walk, Mambo, Tango Road, and Home Run. Oh, happy day! Based upon our experiences in New Mexico's Red River and Angel Fire resorts, I'd say that these green slopes at Loveland are more like the easier blues in NM, but they felt totally doable (as compared to the blue run at Copper that felt like terror!). It may have been an early season anomaly, but we never had a long wait at either lift and the runs never seemed over-crowded. I loved how easy it was to get around, even when it was time to go, the trip to the car was just a few yards and it was even skiable if one so desired. We will definitely return to Loveland in the future for its ease of access, relatively low cost, and the variety of terrain for all skill levels. See ya real soon, Loveland! read more

I had heard that this ski area was one of the better places near Denver for kid ski lessons. 100% accurate - this is a great place to teach your kid how to ski. However, it's also a very good, affordable place to ski or snowboard for people of all ages and abilities. It doesn't have the same views or village amenities as some of the fancier ski resorts further west on I-70, but it is one of the best "bang for your buck" ski resorts within 2 hours of Denver. The kids ski lesson package just can't be beat. We bought the 3 lesson pass which included a lift ticket for the season, all rentals, lunch, snacks, and full day small group lessons. The instructors are kind, fun, and great with the kids. We priced it out, and it's about a couple hundred dollars cheaper than other ski areas, all included. The day lift tickets and season passes for adults are also pretty inexpensive. The only downside to Loveland is one also shared by neighboring A-Basin - it can be very windy. We've been lucky to go on mainly lovely, bluebird days, but the way the ski areas are positioned makes them prone to wind. I thought that the cafeteria and bar were fine and fairly reasonably priced. The area gets crowded on nice weekend days, so go during the week if you don't want to deal with traffic, parking, and people. If you don't ski or snowboard, there's not a ton to do out there unlike other ski areas that have a village where you can ice skate, sit at a restaurant, or snowtube. However, the Bakerville to Loveland Trail has an access point at Loveland Ski Area. You can snowshoe or XC ski it, or even hike with microspikes when the snow isn't deep. I've done an hour or two of snowshoeing on that trail a few times when I didn't feel like downhill skiing during my child's lesson. It's fun and beautiful! read more

This review is for the ski school. Great place to learn how to ski but I strongly suggest you do some research and probe the customer service folks and ask who is the best or most requested ski or snowboard instructor and take that person. If they say "I don't know" then interrogate them on who receives the most positive feedback and tell them to ask around or speak to someone who knows and take his or her class. Ski lessons are too expensive to end up with a lack luster instructor, which I'm sure there are plenty since they have a gazillion of them here. If you get a horrible instructor you might as well just pull up YouTube videos and try and learn the ropes yourself. P.S. Take a day off and go when kids are in school and most people are at work during a weekday so it's not so busy. read more

I've been coming to Loveland for years. The staff has always treated me nicely and professionally, but unfortunately today they did not. I understand the mail is not the greatest right now, last week I called to ask if I could come up and ride even though I haven't received my pass in the mail yet (they sent a confirmation email on Nov. 1st). They specifically told me "just come to the outdoor ticketing area and we will print you a day pass." Which I did and they did without a hitch. Today, however, that wasn't the case. They instructed me to come inside the building, which had a substantial line of people, and not telling me why, so I simply asked why I had to wait in line when last week they simply printed me a day pass from the outside ticketing area. I waiting for a long time for a response until a man with long hair came over and spoke loudly over the speaker so everyone could hear. He went on and on about how rude I was being to his staff and how I should be more considerate during Covid and the holiday. How uncalled for and embarrassing!! I asked a simple question based on what they told me to do one week prior! I work in customer service, I've been dealing with Covid, and I have worked plenty of holidays. Never have I treated anyone this way or been treated this way. I understand tensions are high, but people who work in customer service should be able to actually talk to customers? Maybe just explain next time that you have to come inside for your season pass, we aren't doing day pass prints anymore? I'm still not sure though, they didn't answer that question yet. read more

Super close and affordable to the Denver metro area! Right before the Eisenhower tunnel so you miss a lot of traffic. Only ever parked in the closest lot but I assume if that's full you to further down to the lower area. Top and bottom area. Again I've only ridden at the main top area, but I hear the lower area is meow beginner terrain. Few lifts. Magic carpet. Ski and Ride school. Just less steep and this area closes around three while the main area is four/four thirty. Top or main area has the essential pro shop, food, and a few bars. Nothing out of the ordinary at a resort. One bar downstairs has food but is 90% just bar. Nice bartenders and specials. They also have a CDOT cam so you can watch weather conditions. "Should I drive home or have another drink?" Really smart. Haven't seen other resorts with that so points to Loveland. Lifts are fun. Simple to get depending on where you want to go. I like to go up top as quickly as possibly. Continental divide and directly over or paralleling the Eisenhower tunnel. Pretty fun to ride while knees are in traffic waiting to even get to their resorts. Can be a bit windy at the top but never had issues with visibility. Wide open with lots of room to have fun. Bit more diverse run wise than Arapahoe and closer so it has that working for it. Some of the steep parts and moguls can get rough. But I do enjoy how they don't groom the heck out of every single area. Didn't make it through the park but looked like a lot of line options as well as features. Will certainly be returning! read more

In relation to the major ski resorts in Summit County, Colorado, Loveland Ski Area is unique. The closest ski area to Denver, you can come up for an afternoon and get a half day ski pass. It's not quite as expansive as those other ski resorts, but it is more than sufficient for your occasional skier. They have the most affordable lift tickets on the front range. Because of its proximity to Denver (and probably a variety of other reasons) there aren't any hotels at Loveland. That's why it's called a ski area, not a ski resort. But there are tons of homes and condos to rent in the nearby mountain towns, as wells as hotels within 20-45 minutes. I came here to shred gnar in the name of Jesus. I come on Easter Sunday and I was amazed when I found out they served spaghetti here. I boarded the slopes for a couple hours in search for a tiny board. Unfortunately I did not find any so I returned to the lodge to drown my sorrows in the succulent noodles of spaghetti. The lady serving the spaghetti was super nice! She offered me some spaghetti with fancy meat and I passed. Nothing compares to the savory spaghetti that I most dearly craved. Minutes after ordering I received a fair share of the perfect pasta, reasonably priced and a larger portion then most, I walked over to my table and devoured the delicious delicacy. Overall, a solid /10 on the Luckiw scale. I was pleased with my purchase and this dish can easily be called the best dish on the menu. I am proud to call this a great spaghett and I will be visiting again just for the spaghett. read more

Visiting Colorado from Orlando, FL. My friends and I were researching for months places to go snowboarding around Idaho Springs. We all kept hearing about Breckenridge but the prices were really high for something that we were probably not going to do too much of. We got to Colorado and at the Alamo renting place at the airport, a nice gentleman recommended Loveland. We started comparing Breckenridge to Loveland, and clearly Loveland won. The prices were fair and it wasn't too far away from the cabin we were staying in. We called and asked for the prices over the phone and exactly what we heard its exactly what we got when we got there. We did the half day special along with renting the gear and the snowboard. Everyone was extremely nice and very helpful. They guided us in how to use the boards, how to wear the gear, and which mountain is good for beginners. Everyone in the renting the clothes were extremely helpful and they answered all of our questions. We went up the lift and went down on the mountain (its harder than it looks but we did it) as we were coming down the mountain I lost my phone. I was going crazy cause back where I'm from, I wouldn't see the phone again. I went in and out of the rental clothes place looking for the phone, went up and down the mountain and asked all the workers if they seen it and all of them said no, that if they find it, they'll turn it in. As we were getting ready to leave someone asked us in the rental place of we had fun and I responded "a lot of fun, even though I lost my phone" she kept talking to my friends but I walked away. My friends came out with MY PHONE! I'm forever thankful for this place and everyone there because they were beyond helpful. I also got to fulfilled my long time dream, SNOWBOARD! read more

I totally loved this place! My husband and I stayed in Denver and wanted to definitely go skiing while we were visiting. I've skied before, but almost 15 years ago, and my husband n d had never been a so we were looking for a plAce that was reasonably price and included the ski gear and a class. Our instructor was so funny and patient! He made the experience so enjoyable, and he didn't make you feel like a jackass if you fell or messed up. My husband took a few tumbles and ran into me on the way lol but we had absolutely the best time. My husband kept wanting to go up the mountain and once he got the hang of it he was a speed demon. The workers were supeR helpful when we were loSt or confused on where to go or what to get next. The ski lesson started at 9am up until 4/5 pm. It started to snow while we were skiing and it was my time to go lmaoo I was ready to be somewhere warm. I think this place is for budget skier. I went once during thanksgiving week and not all the trails open but we had fun. New quad ski lift is very fast. We went back again today even though it snowed in the morning and it kind of chilly. We still had a lot of fun. Some blue trails are challenging for us but the trails are wide so we had time to think for what to do. Another thing is it is not far from Denver so we can stay in Denver for cheaper accommodations. read more

There were a lot of things, as a new skier, that I liked about it. Great place to learn - they do a great job catering to the beginner. And unlike the green slopes in Breckenridge, people actually ski instead of loitering on the slopes which is extremely dangerous. One thing I would fix that hinders the learning process is the loooonnnggg lines. I spent 98% of my time yesterday in line for a lift. This is not conducive to learning. There's an easy solution to this: cease and desist from allowing individual people to take up one chair on the lift. Make people get on a lift with a stranger. Fill every chair. They do this at amusement park rides, so don't tell me people won't do it or it can't be done. It's your infrastructure. Make them do it. And if you do, people will be happy with the benefit of shorter lines and more skiing andwill keep coming. Other than that, stellar place for the beginner. But the lines were in fact a big deal. You need to be more efficient. read more

Love this ski resort. It's easy to get to and not uppity like some of the bigger Colorado resorts. We buy a 4 pack pretty much every year (hello value)! I am not the strongest snowboarder (I'll readily admit) and I love this resort bc there are so many nice open practice areas for me to work on my turns and skills. Also you can take the same general path down with higher skilled skiers/boarders and so everyone can have fun. No need for the group to split up since greens and blues are right next to each other. Also all runs funnel back to the same valley area so you won't get lost or turned around on the mountain like some of the bigger resorts. We went for closing weekend yesterday. Can't beat the fact that they got almost 2 ft of new snow combined with the warm weather yesterday. Was not crowded at all and we got to enjoy skiing without being all bundled up. We grabbed a beer at the top of ptarmigan lift and never wanted to leave. Beautiful views and no coats or hats needed. There was even a small band up there since it was the place to be yesterday. read more

Went boarding here yesterday and absolutely LOVED it! For it being early in the season (early November 2018), it was fantastic. They had several runs open, a couple black/double black diamonds, and a couple of blue with a ton of packed powder. Loveland has a small, local feel as opposed to the larger more commercial Vail or Breckenridge resorts. It's very popular with the locals and I can see why. Incredible skiing, not overly busy, and from what I could tell, some fantastic bowls to go nuts in. There is one restaurant at the base of the mountain which was awesome. The food was fantastic, and the prices were surprisingly super cheap -you read that right. There is also a small store, too. Parking is great. You can literally walk from your car to the lifts, and when done, board back down to your car --at least that's what I did. Overall it had a rundown divey feel compared to the larger resorts, nevertheless, I actually preferred it and I can't wait to go back! read more

Unfortunately, I never made it to Loveland, so this review is just for the customer service I received. I luckily found Loveland because it was rated one of the best low-key ski resorts. I must correct the Forbes article because they are not a resort, but a ski area. Since this was my first time on the slopes, I booked a group lesson for 5 hours. I tried to book online 2 weeks before my trip to reserve my spot in class, and couldn't figure out how to add that to my cart. So, I called the number of the website, and I spoke to a representative immediately! No elevator music or listening to menu options. I was told that the season didn't start yet, and to try again on opening day. I ended up calling a few days after opening day, because I still couldn't figure out how to purchase tickets online. I was immediately routed to a representative and she told me that I had to reserve over the phone instead of online. She was super sweet about it, and it took less than 10 minutes. I paid over the phone and received my confirmation email with instruction on how to access the ski school. Because I have no inkling on driving in the snow, on their website, they advertised the Bustang bus, which is a local Greyhound type bus in Colorado. The day before my class, I realized the Bustang bus wouldn't depart Denver until 8:35 am on the Saturday, and I would not make it to my lesson in time. So, the day of, I called Loveland back, told them my dilemma, and they were able to reschedule me to Monday. Fast forward to Monday, I hop on the Bustang to "Loveland" which was headed north on I-25. Well, I end up in Loveland, CO only to find out that Loveland Ski Area is not in Loveland, CO, but in Dillon CO. I called again and told them what happened, and since it was my last day in Denver I would not be able to take another class, and they were great about refunding my payment minus the $15 same day cancellation fee. Now, while they did have Bustang advertised on their website, you actually cannot directly access Loveland Ski Area from a Bustang route or pickup/dropoff so you'll need to hail a Lyft or Uber.. read more

Adults lift tickets are $75, kids' are $32. Just tried it for the first time and it was good. On a Friday, it was far from deserted, but it wasn't overcrowded, and we almost never had to wait for more than a minute in a lift line. We thought that the slopes were a bit faster and steeper than equivalently rated slopes at Snowy Range. read more

It was our first time snowboarding and although it was a challenging experience, the Loveland staff were absolutely amazing and super calm! They were also very encouraging towards everyone and never had any judgment toward anyone. Prices were also very cheap compared to other snowboarding/skiing areas. Definitely recommend it for beginners willing to learn how to snowboard! read more

We absolutely love this resort! Always friendly staff and a great mountain. The parking situation isn't that bad - the only downfall is they park the cars ENTIRELY too close to each other. i.e the middle row parking. We got stuck with our truck and couldn't get out. Loved our time at Loveland! Went to the valley portion for the bunny hills so my girlfriend could learn and get the hang of skiing. Absolutely rocked it, and had a great time! Friendly staff, easy to understand lifts and routes, and 4 different levels of bunny hill type slopes to go down. Next time we'll be going to the intermediate/hard slopes down the road! read more

After so many years of driving past Loveland, I spent my season here and loved it!! I taught a few people to ski in the valley, which is perfect for beginners (and only $27!). They have a magic carpet, slow gentle lift, and good terrain. The basin is also tons of fun!! There's a wide range of terrain and BEAUTIFUL views. I've had so much fun at Loveland and its only one hour away from Denver, which means there's significantly less traffic. They also stay open later than the big resorts, so you get some good spring skiing. I will be coming back!! read more
